The sandwiches we had (the Unholy Cow and corned beef on rye) were excellent and the customer service was really great. Really friendly people. Admittedly, the look of it doesn't really match the atmosphere. The interior is designed almost in a Victorian style, with vintage looking trim, wallpaper, and ceiling design. It's a bit loud though--buzzing the whole time and we were here in at a comparatively slow time (for them). So maybe not a super chill place but they do have carryout. Loved the Wisconsin cheese soup which was at least as good as any I've had traveling through Wisconsin.

Who knew that a twenty foot wide store front across from the Old State Capital and within walking distance from all important state offices, would have the depth to support a lunch time menu. But the line along the west wall and few, few empty wooden chairs tell the story. There still is a wait for so plan accordingly and when delivered to the table, you know why this is the cross road of tourist, visitor and government staff.

We stopped in for lunch and had a variety of sandwiches and soup. All of the food was excellent for all 7 of us. The service was outstanding. They were great with organizing what some little kids wanted and making sure that everything was correct. Highly recommend

Wow what a great place! We went there today for lunch. Their ranch dressing is amazing and salad was SO good. Their sandwiches and soups are also! All the staff was very kind. We went as a large group and I felt they enjoyed having us there and were so welcoming. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Looking forward to the next time we get to visit!!!

Soups are delicious! We had Wisconsin cheese soup and French potato. Sandwiches are made to order with many choices. Excellent food and excellent service!

Amazing soups and I love the chicken salad. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. If you are visiting downtown Springfield, this is a must stop for lunch!

Definite issues with efficiency and food quality. My sandwich was supposed to be on a fresh, crusty baguette was served on what seemed to be take-and-bake, slathered with yellow mustard. Cheese sandwich was unexceptional. The bagged chips were wonderful, staff friendly. Lines way too long, about 20-30 minutes. Also sodas were very over-iced.

Always try to eat at local establishments instead of chains. Sandwich was tasty and served on China plate, not paper (server brought to table). They also remove the trash from your table. It was very clean and workers were very pleasant!

Since these owners about the restaurant recipes from the previous owners I unfortunately assumed that it would be pretty much the same. It still looks the same and the workers were all very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the menu has changed and most of my favorites had dropped off. I can't imagine not having the veggie cream cheese again! I hope that some day they bring it back. As a vegetarian there were only two offerings of sandwiches. One of them was filled with red peppers and other things that I don't like so I ordered the three cheese sandwich. I unfortunately assumed that it would be like other restaurant cheese sandwiches I had. I was asked if I wanted it hot or cold, I said cold. The cheese sandwich was $7.50 and when it arrived it was a regular grilled cheese sandwich. Yes it was also grilled and not cold. There was nothing extra as far as size, specialty bread, cheese, nothing added to it at all. I have to say even though I love Feed Store that's $7.50 for regular grilled cheese sandwich is ridiculous. My guest and I both ordered soup. I'm just disappointed that you can no longer get a half and half bowl. Since it doesn't take other ingredients or anything to make it I'm not sure why that would be. I decided to order the Wisconsin cheese. The recipe was the same as before but it was just slightly warm. Very disappointed as this restaurant has always been a favor to mine for years. I was so happy to get a chance to visit there. Won't make a huge effort to go again but would try it again if I had nothing better planned.

This is a great soup and sandwich shop. I love that you order with someone at the front of the line. Then, she gives you a little ticket, and the staff bring you your food by calling your number once you've seated yourself. The chicken salad is wonderful. Last time I was there, I also had zucchini chowder--it was so creamy and yummy! The portions are just right--not too much nor too little. I love the food so much and always look forward to coming every time I visit home. I do wish that the owners would put a little effort into repairing some of the ceiling plaster and a bit of an upgrade of the decor. The food truly is delicious--decor updates or not!

This was the first time I've been there since they reopened. The staff was very friendly. My wife and I were surprised at how few people there were inside, but now we know why: the food is not the same. My pastrami on sourdough was ok. My wife's ham on a croissant was not very good at all. It tasted like the croissants we get from Sam's Club. It seemed fresh, which was good, but everything tasted like I could have made it.We both had soup. She had the cream of broccoli and I had a mix (always do this) of cream of broccoli + Wisconsin cheese. Where to begin.....both were bland and grainy. They tasted ok and a step above canned, but they were not pleasing to the palate. I'm guessing why there was not a line out the door or a wait for a table. It has potential. If you aren't going to recreate the menu, it is fine to change and make it your own. If you are going to sell a continuation, keep working at perfecting what the prior owners developed and the crowds will return.

Food was decent but not for the price. They may use the same concept from the recipes but they are in no way the same recipes. My once favorite sandwich, The Unholy Cow, tasted like a cheap Walmart deli sandwich with processed cheese instead of the 2 different kind of real cheese. The red onions that used to be sliced thinly to get a nice flavor but not over power your taste buds all day had me eating mints the rest of the work day. They cheese soup had good flavor but was a bit chunky. Not only had to food changed the atmosphere had changed as well. It just seemed like another a mediocre downtown restaurant on the bring of closing.

Been there 5 times and still no improvement. Why purchase recipes from previous owners and not use them exactly how written. I'm all for change and adding flavor to an existing recipes, but if it makes the food/soup taste bad...just sayin'... I can't wrap my head around that. Pricey for bland soup and bland sandwiches that you have to pay extra for the Ltop, and can't get a pickle spear and orange slice. Once I found out who bought it, I knew that was the end of the Feed Store legacy.

Unfortunately I have to revise my previous review. Once the Feed Store reopened after covid, they have a completely different menu and it's just not the same caliber as the previous one. There used to be unique options- I always had the salmon egg Benedict with capers and loved it. Sadly that is no longer an option. I enjoyed the sandwich I got but it was comparable to other options around the area.

The staff is very kind and efficient. The food is accessible fare. Nothing fancy, yet fresh and in heaping portions. The wallpaper here is remarkable. Thanks to the high ceilings, it is not oppressive. It's a great location and informal. Perfect for feeding the whole family, as long as those with dietary restricts don't expect specialty items. The soups are so popular and sell out.

I would rate them a zero if I could. I ordered a large order for a medical office. When I arrived they lost the order but found it after a couple of minutes. I asked before I left if they were sure it that was all because I thought it would be bigger. They reassured me it was all there. When I got to the office 4 sandwiches were missing! So I called to have them get them ready. I picked them up, returned to the office and another sandwich was missing!!!! When I called and asked for the manager I actually got the OWNER and he told me it was my fault for adding to the to go order when I picked it up. My bill was close to $300 and he clearly was not appreciative. I won't go back. They are incompetent!

Went for lunch. Staff is nice, food is good. But we left after waiting over 40 minutes without getting our lunch. Had to get back to work. Couldn't believe how slow they were. Only ordered two sandwiches and two drinks for two of us. It was apparent they valued their take out business as people were leaving with boxes filled with sandwiches. Would be nice if they valued their eat in customers. Understand things get behind at times, but let people know when ordering so they can make a decision to wait or leave. We won't go back again because don't want to wait and wait for a sandwich and then be forced to leave with nothing due to work schedules

Busy place, but for good reason. A little confusing to order if you've never been here before. Ordering was quick, and then we were shown to a table. Fare is soup, sandwiches, salads and desserts, and all very good. The chicken salad sandwich is creamy and delicious, and the blueberry lime cheesecake was the perfect finish. Popular with the state legislative crowd, so lunches can be busy.

Stopped in for lunch on a recent Friday at 11:30am before the noon lunch crowd. The place had customers but was good timing on my part. I ordered at the counter; potato soup, half a sandwich-chicken salad on whole wheat bread. The soup was excellent good potato flavor, chicken salad was good but void of any real flavor. NOTE: you order at the counter and they bring your food to your table.
