It's a nice place and the owner is very nice. I bought a black leather jacket. It was in great shape and he gave me a very good price on it. There are lots of cool things there. It's definitely worth checking out.

The owner was less than helpful. The stock looks like it is a pile of trashed bits n bobs, with no attempt to sort most of it.When we went to pay, the owner was very excited to explain how he hates credit cards and debit cards. He informed us he carries all the cash he might need and a gun. Nobody asked gim for that info. We just wanted to buy a couple of MRE packs for a hike.Not going back.

Great place for mil-surp, and some great prices on stuff. If you look hard enough you can come across some great mil-surp items. The owner is very friendly and nice as we as the guy who runs the counter. Great place to AAA+ service

Unfortunately they no longer sell guns due to Illinois gun laws. But anything else you need, they've got it. Helpful staff, well organized store. Clean, and cheap in comparison to other stores. The owner is a veteran and I am good friends with his son. Also a veteran. Support these guys before you go to one of the box stores. Keep local businesses going! If they don't have something you need. They will get it!

There is so many awesome things here. The staff were super nice and helpful. We had stopped by here on our way to Chicago and we only ment to spend about 10, 15 minutes in here but we were having so much fun seeing all the stuff by the time we had left we were there for an hour and a half. Friendly, highly knowledgeable people work here. Great selections and inventory of a variety of products. (This is not an appliance store. The pictures of washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. do NOT relate to Birds N Brooks). And, contrary to a prior note (which has thankfully been removed): This establishment IS open for business (it is not "permanently closed", as it had been erroneously tagged).

I've been doing business with this gentleman for years, dating back to his previous location, and have found Dale to be knowledgeable, helpful, and as courteous to me as I've been to him. ... and No, he don't take no stinking plastic! That's his choice, if a tad inconvenient at times -saves me from making impulse purchases. His advice has saved me countless hundreds of dollars, not to mention prevented me from devaluing a couple of nice firearms. I will always recommend Birds `n Brooks without reservation.

bought my first firearm from these awesome people 20 years ago, and always come in and see what selection they have. What I have found is these people will not cheat you, nor will they put up with your BS. If you want a place that kisses your A$*, go to a big box store. What you will find here is a good deal with great firearms. They are knowledgeable about the firearms they sell and price them at what they actually are worth and not what they can get from you. I have bought firearms from every dealer in Springfield, IL, and I can tell you I will only buy from Birds N Brooks again in this area.

Been dealing with Dale for 20 plus years, and what I like about Dale and his store is what everyone else has stated, its no nonsense, good old boy shop, plain and simple, if this isn't what your use to, then don't bother going there, if you want a history lesson and some good advice, then this is your place, Hats off to Dale and his family and employee's, they run a top notch store with a little bit of everything and a whole bunch of fun. It stinks because they allow smoking inside, they don't use a modern cash register or calculator so they "figure up" what you owe and taxes on a tax table and screwed up the"figurin up" to try and pinch me for an extra $25. It's mostly old uniforms. Prices are a lil high. Sketchy at best. Get a tetanus shot before going in.

This place is nothing more than a dingy musty smelling rundown place to buy military related clothing. Its a shadow of its former self. I was greatly disappointed in this place. There's absolutely nothing special here. Just overpriced rags are all that remain in this building. Its NOT a surplus store

I do not recommend this place at all. I was trying to make my purchase and did not have enough cash (they do not take any plastic) and was going to go to get cash and return and was told by the clerk i was f***ing with him and to forget it. Not quite how you expect to be treated as a respectful customer. Needless to say i will go elsewhere for my purchases.

okay first off even if they dont sell firearms anymore this store still is awesome the ammount of selection they have at this place is incredible they also sell plate carriers and mre's which amazing considering that this store is awesome.
