This place is amazing! My husband and I went to adopt a kitty and the place was clean and the staff very friendly and professional! We are in love with our spoiled kitty and we highly recommend this shelter.*Our baby is growing so fast! Love him to pieces!!! Totally indoors and safe complete with a huge screened covered patio that he loves to spend time in.

Adopted our sweet Serena (aka Phineas) back in December. My fiancé came across her photo and had sent her to me. I automatically knew I need her and would not stop thinking about her until I had her.I was so nervous because my other cat I currently have has been a part of my life since I was 9 years old (he is currently 19). She has been such a bright-spirited little girl who loves to play with who she is most comfortable with. Love having this sweet girl be a part of our family and look forward to spending many years with her.

We scheduled our three cats for vaccines here on their website. It was easy to do, and I appreciated the text reminder and the email with instructions. When we arrived, everyone was so nice and helpful and they took good care of our pets. I was surprised how smooth and quick everything went. We really appreciated the care they showed.

I don’t recommend this shelter at all. I adopted a kitten that wasn’t able to come home until her worms were cleared.. after they confirmed they were “cleared” we were able to bring our sweet girl home, just to find out that she still had worms. Also, they made an appointment to get her fixed that we had to bring her back for just for us to get there for them to say, “oh, she’s already fixed.” The situation is more annoying than anything.

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I am a truck driver looking for a cat. I called these people and spoke to them, letting them know what I wanted. They told me on the phone theirs no problem with what I needing and they could help me out. I then asked about the adoption fee. The fee was great. I then told them I would be giving a very nice donation since they were going to accommodate my needs.I traveled 55 miles out of my way to visit this shelter. I had looked and spent a lot of time here deciding which cat I wanted. I found 2 I was interested in, was spoken for, so I found another. After several discussions, I was told they would check on my request. They came back with what I call lame excuses then told me I could only get 1 cat because of some kind of issues of not adapting well at the shelter, Forgot to mention that both cats came to me with no problems. So I decided I would only take 1. Then, after another 20 minutes of discussing the cat, they told me I could not get a cat because I didn't have vet records for my cat at home. REMEMBER, im.a truck driver, and I travel alone. Why would I have vet records for my cat that's at home?If you didn't want me to adopt a pet from you, you could have told me over the phone when I called. I would not have wasted my time or the money it cost to run my semi truck out of route.

i appreciate that the shelter is caring for animals in need and they are probably doing the best they can, but I received a kitten from them that had an “eye infection and an upper respiratory infection” that was not mentioned before I went to pick him up. I took him anyway and gave him medicine which wasn’t a problem. After he was neutered and officially adopted his eye swelled significantly and they gave me an ointment. I took him to my regular vet to get him established after that. He has herpes in his eyes. Which incase you didn’t know is contagious to other cats… which we have. If you’re going to adopt make sure you’re thoroughly asking questions and making sure that you’re prepared for what you could be getting into. They need to be actually testing for diseases like this because they were fully aware that i had another cat at home and now they both have a life long disease.

We had or pet treated here to help support their contributions to saving pets. Nice facility and staff. Easy process to follow for spaying pets. Really like this place and have made a few adoptions here all which worked out perfectly.

Best place to adopt your next dog or cat. I volunteered here for a year, and the staff were fantastic to work with. Now I work here and still love it.

My mom was feeling depressed and lonely. She had two cats, right before Christmas she lost Jimmie 1, then a few months ago Jimmie III got accidentally ran over. My mom said no more cats, but she was feeling lonely so I got her Jimmie III from y'all. And Mom's back to Mom. Thank you

Love the APL. I've been there twice and have adopted two cats from them. While they are doing the best they can with the resources available, its not enough for them. Any and all kindness you can send their way in the form of volunteer help would be not only great for them but the community as well. Not trying to say this is a bad thing, more so that they should be getting more based off of the help they provide. This is more of a comment on our values as a society rather than them as a non profit. They're doing the best with what they have and they're smashing expectations IMO.

My family recently considered getting a cat so we decided to look around the local area. The PetSmart here gets adoptable cats in from this APL place so we made the drive out a couple of weeks ago to check out all of the cats they had.All of the cats there seemed to be in reasonably good health, the facility seemed mostly-clean (it does house sooo many animals so the free-roaming cat room was a little messy at the time but, hey, cats will be cats), and the staff was SO kind. The adoption rates seemed very reasonable to me. I saw some kittens were $100, the cats 1 year and older were $0 at this time, and we ended up only paying $50.They did note major personality traits and if a cat with positive for things like FIV. The staff seemed to know some of the cats REALLY well and one lady was even able to recommend a couple of gentle cats for us since we have a child.None the cats seemed fearful, injured, sick, panicked, or anything that would indicate they were being mistreated. We spent maybe an hour or hour and a half there going through all of the kitties and then dwindling down the ones we were considering. We had gone looking for a cat between 1-2 years old but ended up choosing a kitten of all! That was okay though because even though she was too young to be spayed they still made her an appointment so that we could bring her back and have her spayed before she went into heat. The girl we picked out had a little bit of a gunky eye and I expressed concern that maybe it would get worse. The lady reassured me that it was probably just, like, a kitten cold and that it was common (though, I saw no other kittens with gunky eyes or colds), but that she would check with the vet before we left. She came back out with some eyedrops so make sure the kitten was taken care of! I was SO impressed with the follow-through on that!FYI: About 2 / 2.5 weeks later we brought her back and they did the spay as well as her shots, flea drops (just in case), and dewormer. She was in early in the morning and back out by evening. They did not "tip" her ear but did give her a little green tummy tattoo to indicate she's been spayed. I was happy about that! All in all I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this place if you're looking to adopt a cat, at least. I can't speak for their canine adoptions but I would not expect it turn out badly. Definitely worth the drive if you're not in Springfield.

From the first time I talked to the apl staff they were very helpful and friendly I'm glad for their services otherwise I would not of been able to afford to get my dog neutered and up to date on all shots if I could afford to donate money each month to help the apl services I would

I have tried to bring stray dogs that I have found and they constantly tell me that they’re not accepting dogs right now. And I always have to ask to see if they have a chip and if they do I’ll return them to the owner for them. They call themselves a protection agency for animals but won’t take in any dogs. The lady working the front desk seems to not care or wanna do or job. I had to look for a chip myself with her machine because she seemed unwilling too

I adopted our dog, Daisy, from here. They are very informative of the animals. I love that they have an office cat, Greta. She is such a sweetheart. I spend quite a bit in their store, so much cheaper than the store and all the profit goes to them. I've had quite a few of my animals fixed through apl as well.

It took me several months to schedule surgery for my kittens. It was n not until after I complained that they contacted me to schedule the procedure.I also attempted to contact them regarding issues with one of my kittens and was asking for help. They never got back to me. Unfortunately, my kitten ended up passing 2 days after his 1 yr bday. He's untimely, traumatic, NOT peaceful, shocking, heartbreaking passing, more than likely could have been prevented.

Awesome people that work hard rescuing cats and dogs. Great place to go pet some kittens and take one of the dogs on a walk. As long as you're going, take some of your old blankets and towels along to donate.

My 10 year old Chihuahua, Tinkerbell, had to have emergency surgery 48 hours ago for what the Dr. found was pyo. The staff at the APL took wonderful care of my best friend and treated us both with the utmost respect. They saved her life and mine because I am definitely not ready to say goodbye to my best friend so young. We have a lot of years left together!! I can't thank the Dr. and staff enough for what they did for both of us. God bless you all because you most surely blessed us!
