We came through while traveling and stayed at a hotel nearby for an event. The staff was very personable and made us feel welcome, even though we were just passing through.The food was great, but the giant pretzel was absolutely the crowd pleaser. It was buttery and crispy and just had no business being as good as it was. Highly recommended, was a good size to share between 4 people. We didn't order many other dishes, but this one totally stood out. The ceviche was subtle but fresh, and the food came out promptly.The old fashioned cocktail I had was great. Made with a good bourbon and excellent attention to detail, and a splash of agave syrup. My friend enjoyed their frozen margarita, but needed help finishing it as the serving was quite generous. It had a tart, smooth taste with a hint of coconut-- really nice!Anyways, the drinks were great, the food was just what we needed, and the people here were welcoming, generous, and kind,Dietary restrictions: Pescatarian options, onion free options, dairy free optionsParking: There is not an accessible spot right next to the restaurant, but parking was readily available.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a curb cut up to the sidewalk which is level with the patio, the restrooms are through a hallway that's a little tight, but a standard width wheelchair should fit. There are grab bars in both restrooms with room to turn around, but difficulty fitting a second occupant or assistant along with the chair. No automatic door openers, but the doors are relatively lightweight.

My father, husband and I were recently in Sparta visiting Family and stumbled upon this gem. We live in Oregon, and I was raised in California, so I'm accustomed to really delicious and authentic Mexican food. No offense, but our expectations walking in were low given that GOAT is located in the southern tip of Illinois. When we arrived, the staff was incredibly kind, funny, and engaging. We got tacos and chicken wings and loved every bit of it. We were impressed to say the least. We enjoyed it so much that we came back a second night for different tacos and ceviche. Also delicious! They have a great selection of tequila as well. The owner, Flako, was attentive and eager to please. I honestly don't think the small town of Sparta knows how much of a gem this place is. It's a must visit if you're in the area. Can't wait to go back during future visits!

My wife, father in-law, and myself were visiting Sparta Illinois for a couple of days and were looking for a place to grab some food and drinks. G.O.A.T Came up and we decided to give it a shot. We are so glad we did! We enjoyed it so much that we went back for more later in our stay. The tequila recommendations were great, but mostly it was the tacos and hot sauce selections that won me over. They certainly know what they’re doing! I also had the chicken wings and ceviche which were both excellent. Some of the best Mexican food I’ve had anywhere (And I consider myself to be a connoisseur based on my extensive travels). Flako and his staff were fantastic - I highly recommend.

We got there right around 5pm before the dinner rush. Food came out fairly fast. The pickle chips where on the salty side but the specialty sauced wings were really good.Great beer / margarita deals on Mondays though!

The first time we stopped in was just a few weeks ago. The food was great, the atmosphere was chill and perfect for a conversation or watching a game, and the service was amazing. So we decided to stop in again. The second visit was probably our last. It was an entirely different experience. The food was disappointing, the service was meh, and the house music was extremely loud for the middle of the afternoon.

I've been here a few times. I absolutely love their gator bites and bacon wrapped shrimp. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I have a great experience every time.Parking: Parking is in the front. There's plenty of spots available.Kid-friendliness: They are kid friendly. Sundays kids 12 and under either eat free or reduced. The exact special is advertised on the window and can't be found on the website. They have kid menus that has coloring and activities. Drinks come with a lid.Wheelchair accessibility: There's wheel chair accessibility to the door and parking directly in front of the door.

If spice is your game, The Goat is your place to go. The shoot off spicy dog is HOT and tasty! The wings are also super! Kelly is a great server, we couldn’t have have asked for a better server! She is so personable! Would definitely eat here again.

When our giant $10 pretzel arrived admittedly I wondered why it has so little salt on it and regretted not requesting a lil extra. Upon dipping my first piece into the amazing beer cheese I found I no longer cared About the salt. Wonderful tasting combo we devoured in seconds. I enjoyed my bbq sandwich and the onion rings that topped it. I did find I was glad I asked for the slaw on the side as it was far less impressive but edible. He went for the big meat burger made of elk, bison, and pork but was unable to order as they where sold out. Evidence it might be the right choice. In place of he ordered a very filling alternative option a burger topped w an egg and the works. Stuffed we did try our fries and his Cajun fries but we're unable to finish them. Our waitress was a bit inexperienced and seemed extremely nervous as if it might have been her first shift alone but she did alright and we tipped her generously. Kudos to the cook!

One of the worst places I’ve ever eaten. Workers drinking at the bar and smoking next to the patio while I’m eating while all the very young waitresses are literally running around trying to catch up. Food was lack luster and cold. Took me 10 minutes to pay. Young waitress that helped us was new and was helpful, everyone else was horrible and will never be coming back again

It wasn’t busy but the service was so bad. It took almost an hour to get a subpar burger and fries. My fries were cold but I was hungry and ate them. I never got offered a refill on my drink until my friend had to ask the waitress for more tea. The waitress went outside to talk on her phone while we were waiting for our food. I had to get up and walk to the register to get my check. Never again.

Spotted this place while in town for a trap shoot tournament, looked legit. Ordered to go, had to wait a while for it..but the food is amazing!! And my portion of ceviche is huge, it’s fresh and made to order. Yum! Definitely recommend 10/10

OMG!!!...u have got to try the chorizo based dip...nothing better. I ordered a rib rye...another OMG!!!! I am very picky, but the owner cooked it perfectly. It melted in my mouth. Flavor was outstanding, cooked to perfection, I highly recommend The G.O.A.T in Sparta. Best steak I have had since Nov. 2022. I am thrilled I found this place. Thank you, owner, u nailed it!!!!

My family and I had a really bad dining experience here July 2nd 2022.First off, I had no idea G.O.A.T. stood for “grilled over a tarpit.” The food was all burnt, every single item my family had except for the cottage cheese. It was the only palatable item brought to our table.The waitress was just sitting there rolling silverware, not checking on us, our food, or refilling our waters.It took 41 minutes for them to bring our charred burgers and brick fries. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out well done. I mean, look at the picture, can you see how depressed this steak looks?Luckily there was a McDonald’s down the road. I never in my life thought I would utter those words.

This sign sums up their menu! Shrimp ceviche was divine and the salad with avocado and fresh squeezed lime dressing was crazy good. I was super worried that the lime dressing was going to be gross so I ordered the poppyseed dressing and the lime dressing on the side… The lime dressing was actually wicked good! Well done!

Food can be good at times. They don’t believe in running the air conditioner. We just started getting food again but refrained from eating after having a bug (see below) in my food. Not even compensated. Tonight our boneless wings have taken over 1.5 hours, and still waiting because we can’t get a refund or credit after placing an online order.
