Went in there this Monday looking for a budgie, and talked to one of the workers. She was really nice and helped me understand more about budgies. We just bought her and my other bird is already getting along great with her.

So these are my babies in the pictures! I love this pet shop because I can always find great things for them. I have gotten a few fish from here too. The staff is so friendly and is always willing to help you out. I also love to go in and play with the puppies and kittens since they are lonely :( I will i could adopt them all! Whenever I need something for my pets this is the first pet shop I go to.

This place is awesome - the owners, the staff, everything! We recently adopted an adorable Maltipoo puppy. The owner Caroline was absolutely wonderful! She spent considerable time with us over multiple days answering all of our questions. She genuinely cares about the safety and well being of the animals and is not simply out to make a quick sale. She and the staff go above and beyond to ensure the animals are placed in a good home environment. It's truly admirable how much they care about the animals. It was a wonderful experience overall and I highly recommend them!

my first time adopting a pet i was so excited to adopt a bunny thanks to zach following him with his directions & feeding she needs he is super nice & polite guy! I love my new pet bunny! the cutest bunny I ever adopt I’m coming back later in the days when I want to adopt another bunny! I definitely recommend this place!!!💖

Such a cute place!! Not a huge selection but it always seems to be rather unique with the inclusion of reptiles, fish, and insects among the furry pets available! I actually got my pet Axolotl here 5 years ago as a baby and he’s still thriving!

On my brief visit to this fine establishment, I spied the kindest, most beautiful man I have ever seen. He assisted with the CBD dog treats (not all of which went to the dog), and the kangaroo meat treats (again, not all of which went to the dog). My only regret? Not asking for his name or number. My heart aches with what could’ve been. I shall not return - the memories are too great.

All 3 of my babies are from Critters ! Teddy (white/brown Guinea Pig), Frankie (Black Guinea Pig), & Ruby (Beagle/German Shepard mix) are the best ! We are so happy to have all 3 of them. The people at Critters are great to adopt /work with. 10/10! The owner works hard to make the experience great. I adopted the guinea pigs first , & had such an awesome experience , my family went back for our dog. Would definitely recommend Critters to anyone looking to adopt. ♥️

The store has changed owners and moved to a different spot in the same strip mall. Their priorities seem to have shifted as well. Everything that isn't dog food and equipment has been cut back to nearly nothing. What was three aisles of cat food, toys, and supplies is now one side of one gondola. Birds, small mammals, fish, exotics are all similarly cut. My original review is below.An excellent family-owned pet shop. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My new favorite pet store.

Wonderful experience helping me get my cat adopted. They were very understanding and gave the perfect advice. Really worked with me and my very scared cat to find her a home much faster than I would have ever imagined... especially since they made good on their promise to make sure my little love doesn't go to an inappropriate home. They have a wide variety of pets other than just dogs and cats too, if you are looking for something out of the ordinary, I recommend giving them a call.

Staff is very friendly and helpful, animals all looked healthy and happy to me. The 2 curlys they have could use some more substrate. But that's just me being a spider geek haha. I understand their not trying to house them forever. All in all nice pet store. The Dachshund in the photo was focused on my friends dog. He was a cutie.

Zack was incredibly knowledgeable and patient with our two small children. Our big guy was a bit more timid than he thought he would be handling the reptile pets he’s interested in, but we were shown so much patience and kindness, definitely gave us a fantastic first experience with them!

Ignored by other big box pet stores in the area when we stopped in, we decided to try Critters Pet Shop and I am glad we did. We were asked if we needed any help within minutes of entering. Had all our questions answered and a new pet hamster with all the basics in 15 mins and I won't shop anywhere else again. Highly recommended!!!

I just boarded 2 Guinea pigs and I couldn’t be happier. They are an absolute pleasure to work with. I also buy my pet supplies there. Support local businesses.Oh and the best part. They are a rescue too.

I had previously never visited this store before today. My vet recommended a specific brand of food for our pet bunny and Critters was the only store within 50 miles that carried it. The staff was beyond helpful and gave us helpful tips to go home with. I learned so much more about rabbits today and I look forward to returning for more supplies. The store was clean and animals were well-kept. After reading the previous reviews, I'm surprised of the comments that were made. No pet store is ever going to be perfect, especially a small business that probably has experienced a staff shortage. It's hard enough keeping my own house clean with our animals, I cannot imagine how much work it would take for an entire store. Have some compassion and stop trolling.

Profit clearly outweighs the physical and emotional wellbeing of their animals. Young employee was visibly (& audibly) angry while putting collar on 3 month old puppy. He was aggressive, grabbing puppy by the whole neck (Not the scruff). Pulling aggressively on its legs while cursing and swearing at the puppy. The puppy was completly petrified. He kept scolding the puppy for being terrified. I told the young employee that was No way to handle or treat a puppy or any animal. Other more experienced employee saw this. I have heard other disturbing things about this place from friends and family. They absolutely need an inspection from Humane Society. IMO they should not be allowed to house live animals. Not all of their employees love animals.

We're new in the area and Critters is the only store locally that carries what we need for our snake. Each time we're there, the amazing staff goes out of their way to show us all of the new animals and talk to us about or own pets. The rescues we've seen are well cared for, clean, and I've never smelled anything bad in the store - which is more than I can say for a lot of the "big" pet stores. I honestly get excited each time we get to go, to see what's in stock. 100% customers for life!

We love Critter's Pet Shop! I remember the original Critter's Pet Shop location in St. Charles when I was a little girl. Now I enjoy taking my two little girls to the South Elgin location. We have adopted 2 gerbils, a rescue guinea pig, and a rescue puppy from them. All the staff is so helpful every time I go in and patient with my animal loving kids. They answer all of my questions and put me at ease when the pet is new to me (guinea pigs). They also have an awesome variety of quality pet food and other items. I can't recommend them enough.

Kenzie helped us pick a great starter tank for my daughter’s birthday. She was very attentive, knowledgeable on the tanks, their ecosystem and made great suggestions for fish and plants! All of the staff today were helpful with our purchase. We brought home a tank and set it up same day. Looks beautiful and my daughter couldn’t be happier with her gift! Thank you to the Critters crew for your outstanding customer service! Highly recommend.

Went in for some dog food but was appalled at the condition of the animals. Piles of watermelon left for bearded dragons to eat when they should only get a small piece once in a while...not to mention one bearded dragon looked like it was about to die. A Hermann's tortoise also was given a pile of watermelon and they are a non fruit eating tortoise species. Maybe don't take in rescues if adequate care can't be given. Insane prices were blacked out on other rescues they had, with new lower prices added...seems a bit off to me. Over the years I've noticed many things wrong and it just seems like it is continuing to get worse.

First & last time at this store. Lack of customer service, despite multiple employees working. While standing in line employee pushed us out of the way without saying excuse me to just stand next to a display. No greeting while checking out, waiting for card to process the employee ignored us while copying notes on to a post-it, has to ask twice if it’s processing. If I wasn’t afraid it would take another 10 and lack of service to return the items, I would have immediately returned for cancelled the sale. If we could leave negative stars we would.

LOVE this place! Everyone is super friendly and very helpful. Becca is absolutely amazing with her incredible knowledge and friendly attitude. Every time I go in there, she is eager to help. She truly cares about every kind of pet and you can definitely count on her for great advice on what you need for your pet and how to properly care for it. Critters sure is lucky to have her! Thank you Becca...I have one very happy leopard gecko because of you! :)

So many great things about this pet shop. Staff is experienced and helpful. I recently adopted my puppy from them, and am very pleased. My personal vet said she is in great health and was well cared for. I highly recommend you go take a look. I like the puppy food grandma Mae’s they suggested so I will continue to buy from them.

Best place for supplies and pets. They have a large and very well cared for selection of animals. The dogs there are all from rescues. Their dog food selection is excellent as far as healthy, high quality options go. The owners are so kind and have really big hearts.

The staff is very shady when asked questions about vetting of said "rescues" and owner surrenders. A 501c licensed rescue shouldn't charge insane prices for these animals without adequate proof of vet checks and provided treatments. As a previous rescue volunteer , something doesn't add up.

We enjoyed playing with the dogs but I did hear that their pricing can be sketchy. They give you one price then change it when you show up to purchase the dog. I guess you could change your mind at that point but my friend made it sound like your already committed at that point.

The owner helped us with our purchase. She was absolutely wonderful and you can tell how much she really cares and loves for the animals. She also does adoptions out of the shop. We drove 45 minutes for our specific need and it was completely worth it just dealing with her.
