We adapted a cat from this place. We all loved it.When we took him to the vet for wellness check up, they said he’s mouth had a bad infection, we need to spend between two and $3000.I wish they would’ve told me before I adopted and have my family emotionally involved with it.* I’m updating my review. They pulled the cat’s teeth and gave him the antibiotics. And we re-adapted him. I appreciate it, they followed up.My family is very happy now.

This place really cares about adopting pets. They don't want to just force animals on people, they spend the time to ensure that it's a good match. They even have experience if you wish to add another pet to your family and help ensure they get along

I had an amazing experience adopting from Anderson Humane. I found a kitten, Whiskey, now named Monroe on Petfinder. I sent an inquiry online and received a quick response back outlying the adoption process and indicating that she was very shy and needed a slow approach. I was pleased to learn that there was no application process and that they wanted me to come in person for a meet and greet. I drove from Chicago to South Elgin the same day. I received a warm and friendly welcome from Madeline. She answered all of my questions, was very knowledgeable about the kitten’s background and offered helpful suggestions on cat litter, food and how to help her adjust to her new home and pet siblings. Madeline felt that this would be a great fit and I completed the adoption process. She throughly explained the policies and offered post adoption support. This adoption process went so smoothly that we returned a week later and my mother adopted Littin, now named Engo Orion. (Both pictured)I highly recommend Anderson Humane and would adopt from them again. Thank you so much for all you do for the welfare of animals.

Honestly I have never thought about “adopting” an animal in my life. That was until I was walking through a Petco one day and saw that beautiful “blue eyed beauty” kitten. My heart melted, and I fell in love! I had always gone to a pet store or to a breeder and “purchased” a pet. I inquired and the process of adopting through Anderson Humane was actually quite simple. Not only did we adopt her, but there was a gray kitten with her, so we adopted him too. And since I am an animal lover I couldn’t leave the last kitten there by herself so the last one found a home as well!!! We have worked closely with Anderson Humane and I can say that they DO care about the animals in their care. They try to place them in good homes with their screening process and take PHENOMENAL care of the animals that are in their care while they are there. They also take care of wildlife as well. Take a look at their site, go visit their shelter, or consider adopting/contributing to their shelter. I strongly believe in them and their cause…I went back and adopted three more kittens and they have been such a loving joy in my life! Take a look at these happy faces and know you can make a difference. Everyone at the facility was helpful and friendly and act in the best interest of the animals.

We adopted two amazing animals from Anderson (our cat Olive in 2017 and pup Iris in 2022), and had the best experience both times. Everyone who works here truly cares about the animals in their care, and finding them loving homes that fit their personalities. Wonderful facility and would recommend to anyone looking to add a furry friend to their household.

This place is an absolute disgrace. Apparently, you need to be present with your parent even though you are an adult to meet with a dog. Even if not to adopt a dog from Anderson Humane. The front desk receptionist from 4/22/2024 at 4:40pm stated that we could not meet with this dog for she “remembers me from last time” and said that they oversaw the fact that I “live with my dad” even though I’ve stated to them I live in my own apartment and my dad is the owner of the complex. I am a 19 year old adult woman who couldn’t meet a dog without a parent!!! How absurd. What a waste of a 40 minute drive to just walk in to see the adoptables and hear them whine and see them jump up as I pass by, for them not to meet a new friend. They don’t care what’s best for their dogs, they don’t want them to have a playmate even if it’s for a fifteen minute meet. They don’t want them to have fun!! Screw you.

This is a well cared for place (I was pleasantly surprised)...I would rate this like a 4.8Anderson Humane offers many incredible services, has a high cleanliness standard and people who truly love and care about the animals and wildlife, dedicating countless hours including their free time to this place.Dozens of dogs come in every couple weeks or so, many from out of State. If you don't see what you want, there are many more animals (dogs, cats, critters) on their online profile. Some of the services offered are:*Animal clinic*Behavioral training classes*Constant companions (helping seniors with their pets)*Military Veterans (helping military personnel with their pets)*S.t.a.r (fostering pets of people facing short term crisis)

I brought an injured rabbit to this facility and they were very grateful and thankful for my efforts. They made me feel like I had done a good thing for an innocent animal, and gave me a good feeling about leaving the rabbit with them.

I want to preface this by saying I think Anderson does a lot for animals and has a lot of great community programs. That being said, my adoption experience with them was not great. I went in on a weekday morning at the S. Elgin location to drop off a donation and asked about adopting a cat. They were not busy but half of the staff I interacted with were unfriendly and made me feel like I was bothering them throughout the adoption process. And now, nearly three months and well over a thousand dollars later, I am still trying to get this animal healthy. I know how difficult it is to give individualized attention to an animal at a shelter and also how notorious cats are for hiding things, but I do not see how they could have POSSIBLY not noticed the medical issues this animal had. I hope most people have a positive experience with this shelter, but I'm leaving this review as a warning that you could also have an experience like I did.

This review is very long overdue. I wanted to share my experience with this place and my story. I can’t recall exactly the day I went in, but it was September 18th of 2021. Me and my girlfriend decided to go look at the kittens, and to be honest I didn’t think I was gonna walk out with a kitten that day. But once I started to settle in and look at the kittens they had available, at that time, I immediately took interest to taking home a kitten that day, and to my surprise the kitten I chose came out of nowhere, and instantly he stole my heart. His name is John Boy. That was the name that was given to him by the shelter. But I can’t even say how much me and my girlfriend have fell in love with him.We took him home and he was a bit shy but within 2 days he opened up and was showing so much affection. I grew up not liking cats or always had the wrong misconception about cats. But once I adopted John boy also known as Nobu, he changed my whole perspective of cats. He is the sweetest and most loving cat I have ever seen or been around. Words cannot describe how affectionate and loving my cat is. He truly is very special to me and my girlfriend. We spoil him so much and give him the best life we can everyday.I wanted to share this story cause adopting a cat really does make a difference in their lives and my cat has made a huge impact on my life. The employees here who helped us at that time, were very nice and helpful through the whole process of adopting John boy. If your ever looking for your forever best friend, this is definitely the place to go. I couldn’t never be happier with the decision me and my girlfriend made together to bring home this beautiful amazing cat.Keep up the good work here. Cause your truly making a difference in people lives. Animals deserve a good and loving life and home!!

Dogs and Cats Shelter is Great. Wildlife shelter staff are extremely rude and disrespectful. They talk bad behind my back because I heard. Lied numerous times and gave me smirks. Mean to the animals, robert and stephanie were so rude. Never returning here.

Thank you Anderson! I recently adopted a puppy from your adoption event at Do It Best in St. Charles. I absolutely love him! I never adopted before and I couldn’t be happier with the staff that processed my paperwork and the people that were handing all the dogs there were so sweet. I highly recommend Anderson!

Worst staff, no compassion, they don't explain why they can't accept stray animals.......lie and send you on a wild goose chase saying Kane County Sheriff take them ,they have a KEY to the animal control area, went there only to find out they don't do any of this.....Least helpful, not concerned AT ALL about a stray puppy .MOST ARROGANT UNINFORMED ENTITLED STAFF (not very bright) certainly not professional AT ALL!!!! Please DO NOT USE THEM!!! -NEGATIVE 10 STARS!!!

One year ago I adopted a staffy mix named Blossom. They had her on Prozac and Trazadone, which I found her to be only afraid and not mentally ill. She was weaned off those meds and is doing great. When I got adopted her her coat was gray, dull and dirty. She was terrified and wouldn’t leave the living room. I slept on the couch until she finally started exploring the house. She is medication free, has a beautiful coat now (thanks to better food we feed her) and got a good bath which she enjoyed. She was underweight when we got her and now she weighs what she should and has muscle tone. She was not potty trained because no one saw fit to get out of her cement floor cage. Finally, after one year she barks when she needs to go outside. She swims, plays with our Labrador and loves all the toys she has! Her teeth are now clean and she’s such a sweet girl.Anderson could have truly done better by her and not assumed she belonged on a “behavior wall” and drugs. When I got her I wrote them an email and they responded “I’m glad she’s finally getting a good night rest.” They said no one had looked at her and we were the first ones to show interest. She’s an angel! Totally transformed and well taken care of now.

Well, friends... It didn't start well when looking for a dog at Anderson Animal Shelter in Elgin. A week before Christmas I decided I would adopt a dog and give him or her a better life. All I wanted was the dog that had been there the longest. When I went in at 11:30 am I was told by the girl at the front desk that they weren't open. I asked, "What time do you open"? I was told noon. I said thank you and left. I contemplated coming back due to having a 2 pm appointment at my Bridal Salon in East Dundee. I knew my store was 33 minutes from the front door of Andersons Shelter and the front door of my salon. I thought, "That gives me a solid hour to see the animals". When arriving back I was greeted by the same cold individual at the desk. She told me the dogs were through a door and not to put my fingers in the cages. When I went in back I was reading the dogs' names and breeds that were listed on the cage. All of a sudden a girl pops out of one of the cages named Lila. She was cleaning one of the cages. I asked Lila about two particular dogs. She knew their behaviors and dispositions. She explained what dog would be better in my environment. All of a sudden who comes through the door to scold me for talking to the workers???? You got it it was the girl at the desk. She couldn't have been more rude for just interrupting an amazing conversation just to scold both of us. Lila went back to work and I went to the front desk to just simplify my search. I asked her... please tell me the dog that's been here the longest. I want to bring home a new family member for the holidays. To give an animal a better life. She looked up and said... They're not all here. As she was saying that she was typing and looking at her screen. She looks up at me and says... can I help you with anything else? I thought she was typing: "Dog here the longest". Nope... I have no clue what she was typing... but why were you typing while you had a customer standing right in front of you? I said no thank you and left. Now friends I don't call places to talk to managers but in this case I had to. I would give Andersons a one-star for their phone system, but I was persistent. I just started pressing departments in hopes I would get someone other than the front desk. I explained my situation to who answered the call. She made apologies and then transferred me to Chris Bebee the Manager. I explained to Chris what had happened. She apologized but she used an example of something that happened to her, when at Andersen's. In her story, I could tell how passionate she was for the people who walk through the doors as well as the pets that are guests there. She acknowledged that there's balance in what's good for the guest as well as what's good for the adopter coming in to see a potential new family member.I decided to give Anderson's another try. I asked Chris to do some leg work and find me the dog that's been there the longest. She sent in minutes a list of dogs and the bios. In the list, I found the dog I wanted. As well as the dog that wanted me. Craig was the dog I had in mind but Koda was the dog that needed me. Craig is a tall lean dog who was in shelters for two years and Koda is a beagle who is two but looks 14. I thought... there isn't a family around that's looking for a young dog that looks old. So I adopted both. So for Christmas, I received two additions to my family thanks to Chris and Lila.Christmas Eve, eve I brought a gift for Lila as well as an amazing Holiday arrangement for her parents. Why her parents? Because they raised an amazing young woman that's going to make a difference in this world! Everything she does she does it for the love of doing it! Kind, compassionate, loving, caring, sensitive, and a positive role model. Her parents needed to be recognized for raising such an amazing girl. Now, Craig and Koda are in a new home with plenty of yard to enjoy every day for the rest of their lives. God bless and happy adopting!!!!

I got my cat from here back in January. She is a little crazy but I still love her. Well about 2 weeks ago I went back and left with another cat😆 He is the sweetest most loving cat i’ve ever owned. he’s super sweet with my other cat and he loves to snuggle. He has the best little personality. He is just what I needed! I’m so glad I was able to find two super special cats. Thank you so much! I truly love them both so much. I got my 2 babies, one the day after the first one. From 2 different locations with Anderson. I had been working with another adoption agency that makes you jump through hoops with applications, references. I also was working with someone who took 5 days just to call my vet to ask a question. What I appreciate about Anderson is not only is it a rescue service, but it is the service that most closely resembles shopping, without actually "shopping". If you see a pet you fall in love with on the website. Call and ask if it's still available. Then rush right down real quick, meet them, and adopt on the spot. The process only takes about a half hour or so.Anyway, my Tortie and Siamese Mix are now best friends. We are all a happy cat family!

The team was amazing in helping me find my little puppy. This shelter is very clean, everyone is so friendly. This was the 5th shelter I've been to, when i was looking for a dog. I was sold on this place as soon as i walked in the door. Anderson had her rabies and all of her shots done, she was also spayed and microchipped. I can't express how satisfied I am with this shelter. I will be sending all of my family and friends here. Thank you all to the wonderful staff for helping me find her ❤

I was driving by today and their sign read they needed Purina Puppy Chow. I decided to drive to Petsmart. I bought 60lbs of food and drove it back over. Took it to the front desk where a young lady with dark hair and glasses was sitting, using a computer. Look... I do this for the animals but a little kindness when someone drops off donations will only encourage future donations. She didnt even look up at me. Just asked if I needed help as she looked at her computer. I said, "I heard you need puppy chow". Still looking at her computer pointed blindly to the left and said, "find room over there somewhere". That was it. No we appreciate the donation or any acknowledgment of any kind. Just out it over there and moved on. Something similar happened when once dropped off unused pet meds. In that instance it was leave it on the counter and that was it. I hate to see pets in need go without but I may need to re-think which shelter I donate to. Again, not looking for a thank you, but you depend on donations and the community. Be kind.. thats all.

I recently adopted a hound mix puppy from Anderson. The process was super quick and easy to get him adopted. I was able to get through the adoption process same day, meet him and take him to his forever home!I will say, this was my first adoption on my own and I wasn’t really sure of the questions to ask, and I felt like I was being judged for not asking enough questions. However, I did ask about medical history and they told me he was healthy. It turns out that he has a mild upper respiratory infection and he was coughing and sneezing yellow snot. I reached out to them to let them know, just in case it’s being passed around and other dogs need medication too and I didn’t get a response (granted it was on Friday). He is adjusting very well to his new home and environment! He loves to play, explore, meet new people and go new places! He’s a wonderfully behaved little puppy and I couldn’t ask for a better best friend! Thank you Anderson!Update 04/27/2021:Deanna was extremely helpful in getting all my issues squared away. Thank you so much for all your help!

We adopted our two boys here. They treat animals very well and do follow up on adoptions. There’s an adoption fee which is fair considering animals are neutered, checked, vaccinated, and chipped. Don’t shop, adopt!
