Volunteering at AHF has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I love the flexibility of when to volunteer, the community of volunteers, and of course, the chance to help the dogs and cats in their time of need. Our country needs to do better to ensure no animal (or human) experiences neglect or abuse, and volunteering here is one step in the right direction to create a better world for us all.

From becoming volunteers and adopting our dogs, to eventually becoming fosters, Almost Home Foundation is a rescue that is accessible with a team of dedicated volunteers that make it easy to do our part no matter what capacity. I really appreciate the opportunity to be apart of this amazing community and see so many dogs get the quality attention, care, and eventually homes they deserve!Support your local rescues!Start volunteering and maybe fall in love?!Whatever you do, adopt don’t shop! 🐾❤️🐾

On May 30, 2009 I adopted Charisma, a Catahoula Leopard Lab mix. He was the best dog in the world! Charisma was always looking to please and provided so much love and he was given love in return. When my husband my husband and Charisma met in September 2011, they immediately took to each other. I regret to say that Charisma passed away on January 17,2024 at home with my husband and myself at his side. Charisma was 16 years and 4 months old. He will be missed and will always remain in our hearts. He had his forever home.

Almost Home Foundation is run completely by volunteers who love animals. My husband walks dogs there weekly. The dogs are wonderful. I great place to adopt your next dog.

I attempted to work with 2 other shelters in the area before finding AHF and this is by far the kindest, most responsive, and best run shelter of the 3. I inquired about a dog on Sunday and took her home on Thursday. I found the process thorough but quick moving and they communicated all steps. Now I have a beautiful new family member and I cannot thank you all enough.

AHF is totally committed in saving dogs. Totally run by non-paid volunteers. Dogs come from many places, Southern State Transports, Airplanes from various State Disasters, Horders and others including Dogs freed in the legal process. AHF volunteers work tirelessly to allow each animal to be loved and provide love to their new furever families. And as a final thought, every Dog's Last Will and Testament ends with all its possessions going to a poor Dog that hasn't known love, like it's bowls, bed, etc, and each passing Dog gives it the only thing it can give: "The love I Left Behind".

Back in August, I put an application for a particular dog I saw on their website. After meeting with the Adoption Coordinator Paige, we concluded that the dog was probably not the right fit for me. Paige helped match me with a suitable dog and passed my information to another coordinator, Jenna. Jenna was terrific to work with answering any questions and checking up on me with the foster to adopt process. I have made a new best friend with my boy Brady. I cannot thank the group enough. They really care for the animals and vet the potential adopters appropriately.

This place is impossible to get anyone to answer phones or emails!! Filled application out to adopt a puppy and emailed to make sure they got it. Nothing, called the number just a messege, do they want to find homes or not?

I adopted my pup from Almost Home in 2019, and I cannot recommend them enough. The process was so smooth and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Winry (formerly Winn Dixie) is such a sweetheart and made life ever so brighter. Thank you!!

We got our dog from Almost Home as has most of the members of my family. They vet the dogs well and truly care that they place them in a home where they will thrive. In a world where pets are “disposable” thank God foundations like this exist.

Over the years our family has in total adopted 6 animals, both dogs and cats, which should sum up our love and loyalty for Almost Home Foundation. We love this rescue so much because they CARE. So many rescues adopt out so many animals without question- which I understand, they want to be able to rescue as many as possible. AHF rescues and adopts out animals by the dozens weekly, but they take the time to make sure the animal will be a good fit- which is very appreciated and shows that the rescue wants the best for each animal they rescue. They also try to get all of their animals into fosters to avoid them being in the shelter. Their values on their organization show so much love for their animals. One of our cats recently passed away in December and we were absolutely devastated. This was my first big "loss". While she was sick, we made a trip to PetSmart to get her more of her food that she liked and I noticed all of the cats at the adoption show. Most were kittens, and 1 adult cat. There were so many people giving attention to the kittens, but none to this adult cat, so of course I had to. I fell in love with this cat and knew when the time was right, if he was still available, I wanted to take him home. When I felt ready to bring home another cat, Morris was still available. We went to the adoption show and they were SO informative about him. The volunteers were very informative about all of the cats. They answered all of our questions and let us know the next steps in the process. There were others who were interested in Morris, but we ultimately were the lucky ones to be able to take him home- which we are SO grateful for. He is such a bundle of joy. Without AHF we wouldn't have all of our babies with us. We are so appreciative of everything they have done for us, for Morris, and for all of the animals they continue to rescue. The world needs more good people like them

I saw a dog on there website that I was interested in so I filled out an application and the rescue contacted me. We did a meet and greet. After the meet and the greet I told the rescue that I had to think about it. While I was thinking about it the rescue was very pushy and was contacting me to set up a house inspection. And someone came to house to try to a house inspection when I wasn’t home when the house inspection was never finalized. Also, the rescue told me the dog was up for adoption or we could do a foster to adopt. Then they changed their answer and said only foster to adopt. After taking time to think about it I contacted the rescue to see what the next steps where and they told me that the dog had other meet and greets set up. This is not how a rescue is run. Instead of setting up other meet and greets they would move forward with with me who was the first potential adopter. Do not adopt from here unless you want your heartbroken. Because you will fall in love a dog and the rescue will never finalize it. Instead they move on to the next person.

We visited to fulfill a Cub Scout requirement. While there we made donations, learned about fostering, adopting, some of what volunteering entails, and the most exciting part, we met a few animals. The people running the shelter are pleasant and knowledgeable. The animals they have (that we met), well you just want to take them all home. It seems like a great place to volunteer, foster and especially adopt.

I made 2 attempts to adopt a dog from this facility, but apparently I was not a good fit for either dog I wanted to adopt. They claim they will only call if your a good match for that specific dog. The dog I was considering is still available for adoption. Hmmm. I have owned several dogs, with recently having to say goodbye to my 15 year old Shepkita. Don't waste your time trying to save a dog and giving him a good life from this unprofessional establishment.

We adopted our first dog from Almost Home in 2009 and are in the process of adopting another. Our experience so far has been great both times. The volunteers for Almost Home genuinely care about these animals. They aren't trying to be difficult when it comes to adopting these animals out...they want each and every animal to live their best life! We dealt with Lynn this time and the amount she cares was very clear, she's been great!

Being a volunteer at this foundation has changed my life! I have never met a better group of individuals who cares so much about their animals. There is always a volunteer willing to take a dog to the vet, the groomers, or even out on a field trip for the day. The dogs are extremely well cared for and get plenty of love and exercise. Although I could be bias being a volunteer, I would not hesitate adopting a dog from here.

We had the privilege of adopting the sweetest Jack Russel Mix this past Saturday. Due to her heart worm positive diagnosis, there is a lot of information we needed in order make sure she is being cared for properly. The whole adoption process was seamless and wonderful. Almost Home's staff are some of the most helpful and friendly people. They ensured we had all of the information, and did not sugar-coat anything. We also loved the way they ran their shelter. They try their best to get dogs straight into a foster home to ensure they don't have to live in kennels any longer than necessary. This also helps teach social and behavioral skills. We are so thankful, and would recommend them to anyone. If you are looking for an animal, attend one of their adoption shows which are held every Saturday at the locations listed on their website.

We got our wonderful dog from here about 10 years back from one of the luckily nice people who volunteer with this organization. Unfortunately we went today to donate shoes for their drive and were met with extreme rudeness from their front staff. Would never want to deal with whoever that was and it is people like that who ultimately ruin experiences with organizations trying to do good like AHF. So disappointing.

I previously had volunteered for Almost Home Foundation on and off since 2012 as an adoption handler at one of our Saturday adoption events. It was extremely rewarding bonding and socializing with pups and people! Matching our pups with loving forever families gave me incredible joy. Seeing some dogs blossom from skinny and scared, and after weeks of TLC gain weight, confidence, and happiness is something I never tire of.Then I lost two of my three very much loved, elderly dogs within 6 months of each other due to illness last year.In my grief I decided it was time to be a Foster Parent. It is rewarding to see how I can really make a difference in the life of a dog (or for others a cat) in need of love and care.My 8 year old dog Eli enjoys having a companion and playmate.I love seeing my foster pup learn tricks, socialize, and get ready for that forever family waiting. No rescue is perfect as we are all volunteers.Almost Home Foundation is a wonderful rescue made of the hardest working volunteers I have ever met. They have the biggest hearts for rescue animals in need.

BEST RESCUE EVER! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!My boyfriend and I were ready to adopt a dog. We looked at countless of other places but none of them were good with communicating. I came across almost home foundation and applied for “aboo” (now Milo). We got a response back within 24 hours. We did the meet and greet, home check, and adopted him within two weeks! This place clearly cares about their animals, they put in so much effort to make sure they go to a good home. If we ever decide to add another fur baby to our family, we will definitely go back! (:

There is not enough time or words that can explain the disappointment with this foundation. My family wanted to foster one of the animals with ability to adopt. After the schedule neuter date it was arranged by us and the staff that he would be coming home with us. It wasn't until we received notice that the dog contracted kennel cough that things had changed. They have a widespread of this disease happening in there facility. His surgery was post poned for two additional weeks. My family and I were willing to pay the adoption fee and by pass the fostering as long as we could bring him home after he was well . We have other pets in our family so we didn't want to take the risk of them contracting it. The foundation said they couldn't hold the dog and there was a chance that we would be put on a "No adoption list". We are the most loving pet people that you could ask for. The very poor response from this foundation is so unbelievable , almost in humane. I feel that they just wanted this dog out of there facility at any cost. We were more then willing to pay the fee for adoption prior to having him come home. In my opinion they are not looking out for these pets at all. After working with the staff for over a week and buying everything he needed to come home with us, it all changed after he contracted kennel cough. I do not recommend this facility at all !November 30, 2020UPDATED....Rosemary,I know there have been many emails back and forth, my husband has also forwarded his review as well.I will be forwarding you my vet bills this week. To your point that Jackie did not want us to bring Woodford into the kennel after we were told about the Kennel cough outbreak at your facility, we did keep him in the car.We were told it would be find to do the meet and greet outside with Lucas because Lucas did not have kennel Cough. My dog has now been sick for almost a week with this virus and now how our neighborhood dog sick as well. Between the medication, X-ray’s and office visits I am close to $1000 in charges from this! Once again this is why we did not want to bring Lucas home until he was well. With you sending home dogs in this condition to fosters or people adopting you are putting other dogs at risk, this is highly contagious and very expensive to treat. It makes me wonder how you are treating your animals at your facility. At this point I highly doubt you have only a couple animals with this virus. In a enclosed environment and no treatments or separations being done this can be spread very quickly as you can see from my one visit at your location. I expect to be reimbursed for these charges.

My experience with this organization in a nutshell was mishandled, misleading and a giant disappointment. We started off on a good foot with the communication piece. Someone from the shelter emailed me to notify me that my application had been forwarded to the fosters of the dogs I was interested in that same night. And within the next day nearly all the fosters has reached out to inform me their dogs had already been adopted (Totally understand and appreciated the response to let me know)At this point I was left with one dog left on my list so I waited a few days until his foster parent reached out to me to basically set up a meet and greet. I was so excited as I hadn’t made it this far in the process yet due to the overwhelming amount of people trying to adopt a dog right now. So we had something confirmed and scheduled for Monday.Everything was going great and we fell in love with this dog. We told the fosters we wanted to move forward with next steps and they said the next piece would be a home visit and we would receive a phone call later that day and get scheduled for a visit this week. Well, Saturday night comes, Sunday comes, Monday and NO RESPONSE. I sent a text today to check in and see if there was an update. I got a voicemail from the foster saying the dog was placed with another family due to a “first come, first serve basis”At no point in our many exchanges was it informed that there was a family ahead of us.Why were we even scheduled for a meet and greet if there was already someone wanting to adopt?I wouldn’t have found out this information had I not reached out and I would still be waiting like an idiot thinking that I was going to be taking home this dog. Just a giant disappointment and unprofessional. We were just lead on this entire time. I really wish this place was transparent with their process/available dogs.

Do not deal with Lynn. Very unprofessional, rude, discriminative and biased. She is just a foster person and she acts like it’s up to HER to chose who gets the dog. She judges you based on her impression. She can’t even control the animals. I will be going to another foundation that deserves it because of how they act and treat their animals. Poor animals.Edit: who cares she’s an “adopt show coordinator”, she still does not know how to manage and communicate. I’ve never been disgusted of a place like this. Very very very rude.

They placed a heartworm positive dog. Three months in a foster home and NO ONE heatworm tested this poor dog.Now they want to have us travel far to multiple veterinarians for tests and treatment.Complete failure on their part!Edit: As a person that has been actively involved in rescue for over 35 years your obligation is to the animal first. You assume nothing. You vet the animal first, clean them up and behaviorally evaluate. If HW positive you do not give Ivomectin/ heartguard as that can cause a stroke. Blatant disregard for the health of the animal. Your process is broken. While not the owner I AM involved with the owners.
