Went there for the first time today. The owner suggested I get a frozen pot pie that they make from scratch.I came home and baked it and it was absolutely delicious. Made in a square aluminum bake ware dish, takes an hour to cook.I will definitely go back.

Great place! I was so excited to find Janie’s Mill flour here, and they had a great selection! Will definitely be going back for quiche and to explore the rest of the small shop.Customer service was fabulous too. Super helpful and made you feel very welcome.For those thinking this is a full grocery store, not so much. It has the feel of a large and well stocked chef’s kitchen/pantry.

My mom and I stopped by tonight and got the friendliest, warmest welcome and run down of what Sous Chef is about, what all they have, and some information about upcoming events. It's wonderful to see so much local organic produce (I have pet beetles and they require organic; I'd rather buy from local because "organic" in big business is sketchy to me at best) and a great selection of meats. The prepped meals all sound delicious. I'm excited to try the shrimp pad thai and the hummus! The specialty flour selection is good, too. Now I know where to get good rye and spelt in my area. Will be back here for produce for sure and I am telling my friends about this place for their local, quality food needs.

If you love hummus, this is the place to get it. Hands down the best I have ever had! I love this little shop! It's so cute and the people who I have encountered there are some of the nicest people. The owner is wonderful.

Walking into Sous Chef always makes me feel like the main character. They are SO friendly and cheerful from the moment you step in. The local produce is AMAZINGLY flavorful. My partner, dog, and I are all addicted to their blueberries and return our jar for refills often. The vegan pot pies are the epitome of comfort food and include detailed information about where the ingredients are from which adds a personal touch. The handmade soaps are amazing as well. So much good in such a small space, I really can't say enough.

Delicious homemade soup, hummus, side dishes and a wide array of cheeses. At a surprisingly reasonable price. They also have fresh, local produce. The owner told me they are an extension of the farmers market. You should check this unassuming market out!

Such a peaceful and unique grocery shop. This is the hub for locally grown produce as well as other product lines from the central Illinois area. The owners are incredibly kind and give the store it's warm family-owned feel.

A wonderful resource for fresh, local food in south Peoria! Great for grabbing a lunch or dinner to go or picking up ingredients from local farms if you missed the market. I can't imagine doing my grocery shopping without this place!

This is not a grocery store, there are only 5 short wooden shelves with things found in a convenient store. Some fresh vegetables, a chest freezer unlabeled, and a wall freezer with a small variety of non convenient prep foods. Plus no one asked me if I needed help.

love love love that everything here is local local local !!! What a treat to get produce from some of my favorite farmers all year round. ALL of their prepared foods are totally delish - the quiches, the chicken salad, omg the pot pies, the apple pies, the cookies - all made and labeled with not just natural ingredients, but also where in IL the ingredients came from. I don't know who Kathy is, but she makes and they sell a salsa that's just addicting! So glad they're here only 6 blocks from me downtown.

I cannot speak highly enough about Sous Chef. The friendly, knowledgeable staff and unparalleled variety of locally-sourced ingredients (such as eggs, jellies and jams, in-season produce, dairy, meats, and so on) contribute to a really unique grocery shopping experience. It’s like a miniature farmers’ market 6 days of the week! Plus, they recently received a grant that allows them to match the cost of produce purchased by EBT recipients, effectively making access to fruits and vegetables much easier in what could otherwise be called a food desert. Stellar place, absolutely worth a go.
