I sent my bike to Illinois Cycle 1 month ago. . . . The deal was I needed new tires, tubes and a brake adjustment. So I sign all the paperwork authorizing them to work on my bike. . . about a week later they called and said they had run out of tires and wanted to know if I was willing to take a used pair instead, otherwise, the new shipment they said they had was a week out. I chose to wait for the new shipment. . . . several weeks passed and no phone call that my bike was done. So I made the call and inquired on whether it was done or not, their response? I hadn't given them authorization to work on the bike. After discussing with them on the fact that I signed the paperwork and told them what to do on the first meeting and then told them what tires to use, they told me my bike would be done the following Monday at 4pm. . . . I show up to pickup my bike on Monday at 5:30pm (today) . . . . No new tires or tubes and no brake adjustment. They did nothing. I understand that sometimes you don't have parts, but at least you should have the common courtesy to let your customers know and not lie and say it would be done at a certain time, when obviously, it wasn't. I'm a very angry customer that spends most of their time doing college course work and had one month left of summer to ride. I now don't have any more time to ride and my one last month was wasted waiting for authorization on something that I authorized and for customer service to do it's job right. If you want a quality job, call someone else. These guys obviously lack customer skills and don't know how to use the phone.

This is a great “local” bike & fitness shop! It’s such a nice alternative to the “big box” retailers that sell anything, but offer no warranty or service.

Couldn't be happier. The owner took time to explain all of the features and maintenance of the bike before I committed to the purchase. No pressure at all even though I was the only person in the store at that moment. Inspected the bike before I left to make sure it was ready to ride. They don't sell cheap junk. Entry point is about $400 from what I saw. I saw bikes well over $1000 as well. Big plus is that they service everything in house. Highly recommend.

I purchased a scooter from here a few years back. It was not cheap. One of the selling points was that the owner, John, claimed they would perform all the service in house (no one in Peoria will service bikes from this Italian manufacturer). I took it in for a simple oil change and they used the wrong seal and created a leak, which I finally had to fix myself. Then, John decided he wasn't selling scooters anymore, and told me I would have to find another place to get mine serviced, which again, no one in Peoria would do that. So after dropping a substantial amount of money on this thing, I ended up having to sell it and take a huge loss. Furthermore, John messed up the paperwork on the sale and had the title sent to me, even though I made it very clear that I was financing. I had to pay 100 bucks to get the title fixed and the he refused to reimburse me. There was nothing positive about my experience with this place. Go to Bushwacker or Little Ade's. My wife bikes and we always get great service at those places.Update: I added a couple of stars because John reached out to me and seemed genuinely regretful about my experience. He wanted to do what he could to make it right. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that, now that he is focusing on bicycles, things will be better for future customers. However, I'm leaving my original review just so people know the whole story.

They did a great job. They easily identified the part I needed for my bike and it was a lower cost than I expected, I was even instructed on how to install it.I tried Bushwaker before going to this place, and they wanted to keep the bike for 3 days. 3 freaking days to measure the rear axle. I already had it out the bike and accessable for them.Anyway these guys actually know what they are doing, thank goodness

The oldest and best bike dealer in America. I live in North Carolina. While visiting family in Dunlap, IL, I bought a bike from Illinois Cycle. After a couple of rides back in NC the frame seemed to big for my stature. Emailed the contact provided by the web and got an immediate response. I asked about the possibility of exchanging for a different frame size. The answer was "no problem". Two months after purchase with no receipt Illinois Cycle exchanged for a new bike similar in price at no cost!!! The original bike was ridden only twice and like new condition but the owner did not even consider and was immediately committed to making his customer happy. A great experience and highly recommend this cycle and fitness center ( the oldest in America, and for a good reason!!).

I had a great experience buying a stationary exercise bike from Illinois Cycle and Fitness. They delivered the bike to my house in a couple days and hauled away my old elliptical. The bike is very comfortable and easy to use.

My son had his grandfather take him and his bike out to Illinois Cycle & Fitness to have a broken left shifter mechanism fixed. When I returned home from work I asked if it was fixed and he said yes and they only charged him $24.00. I went down to look at the bike and found nothing had been done. I called out to talk with their service department to find out what had been done.I talked to the service tech and he told me that my son had him fix the right shifter mechanism. He then told me that the right one was also not working and really nothing else on the bike was working, like the brakes and that it was poorly assembled. I asked him if he had mentioned any of the other problems and he said no but I could bring the bike back out and he would fix the other issues. At this point I was a little upset and asked him if he wanted me to drive from East Peoria all the way back to the far side of Peoria. He then hung up on me.What kind of store knowingly sends a 14 year old child out with a device that was not functioning properly and could cause him harm?

Was looking for a new bike. This place is only for people who are very serious about bicycling alot, and can spend loads of money on a bike. I ended up finding a really nice 21-speed bike at Walmart instead for a quarter of the price.

I brought my Roubaix in to the shop a few times over the last few weeks - once to have the headset adjusted and once to have a crash inspection done. The mechanics are top notch and got everything fixed up in a timely manner. I would go back without hesitation.

Wow - Might I say I was disappointed in the quality of customer service I was given here. My family has spent thousands between bicycles, an ellipitical, and a treadmill - not that it should make a difference in how they treat a customer. I went to Illinois Cycle and Fitness to purchase a missing piece for my treadmill and also the ellipitical, after being handed over to THREE different employees, I was told that I should find the serial numbers myself and "it is as simple as calling an 800 number to purchase the new part, or 'googling' the pieces and buying them online." (As the owner stood by) One would think, after purchasing a piece of equipment they would be glad to continue business/customer support. Looks like I'll be calling Russell's tomorrow. . . .

I should preface this review with for 30 years I have only dealt with 1 cycle shop. Since relocating, I have popped into a few shops in the area. While they didn't have what I was looking for in stock. The gentleman gave me the information I needed to find it online! (Which is more than i can say for the other shops in the area). I will be returning to this shop for my parts needs in the future because of that!

Great shop, great employees, they have a great selection of Specialzed and Felt bikes. I can only assume the bad reviews are from fanboys of russells who pretend how nice they are but mark there bikes up 100 or more over msrp.

Very HelpfulI had a wheel with multiple broken spokes. They had a used wheel and tire that was an exact match. I was back out the door with the wheel installed in a few minutes.
