Wonderful organization that advocates for animals in every way they can. I adopted my 1 year old border collie mix from their North Aurora location and took their puppy training classes. The instructor was amazing. Young, really knowledgeable and truly cares about your animal and you. Highly recommended.

From the moment we walked through your doors, Yvette, Daisy, and Lisa made us feel at ease. Their warmth and genuine enthusiasm for helping animals find loving homes were evident, creating a positive and welcoming environment. We are especially grateful for the patience and dedication shown in answering all our questions. As first time pet owners, we had many concerns and uncertainties, but your team took the time to address each one with kindness and expertise. Their guidance and valuable insights have made the transition into pet parenthood smoother than we could have imagined.Thank you to the North Aurora team for making this such a pleasant experience!

Last week I brought home my second Anderson kitty. I am now the proud owner of Mike (formally known as Tigger). Easy adoption process. Reasonable fees and one of the two people on staff were extremely helpful (the other just seemed a little bothered, perhaps she wasn't feeling well or something). Great experience overall! Now working on the slow process of introducing Mike to my existing Anderson rescue. I was given great handouts on tips for introducing cats and I have found those very helpful!

Both of my cats are from Anderson. I adopted both in 2019 at different months. My first senior cat cost me $125 to adopt, and my second younger cat cost me $50 to adopt. I love them both and they’re the best cats I’ve ever met. When I went into the shelter yesterday (2023) I told the worker I was looking for an addition to the family but had some criteria to make sure they would be a good fit. I looked at a handful of cats but ultimately fell in love with a younger male cat named Penn. I spent some time in that enclosure with him and another cat. Another couple joined in the enclosure and found interest in the kitten. When I went up to the desk to inquire about Penn (who’s rate was $295!!) I was told that the couple that came in after me decided to adopt both of the cats even though they’re not from the same litter. I just felt blindsided and wish I was given priority since I was clearly bonding with him. The other couple didn’t even meet him (probably because I was hogging him). But the situation was disappointing enough and felt unprofessional that I will no longer consider Anderson Humane an option for adoption. I felt it was a failure of having policy or at least awareness of what was going on (since I was communicating with the lady who worked there). ADOPT AT YOUR LOCAL CITY’s ANIMAL RESCUE INSTEAD.

Adopted two kittens here and they sent them home saying their vet check after being bought was all clear and both kittens were great. They were not. One had a SEVERE respiratory infection and both were RIDDLED in worms. Took three worm treatments to fully treat them both. They hold their kittens in colonies and this is not good for them. A $500 adoption fee turned in to $1700 in that and vet bills.I wish the pets there were better cared for health wise.

We went here back in July 2017 to find and adopt an older dog. And who was in the waiting area pen, a little puppy named Sonny. His littermates had all been adopted and he was alone. The staff were busy in the cat rooms, so I started petting little Sonny and talking to him. Then I picked him up, and that was it, he didn't leave my arms once. We adopted him and changed his name to Darby. He was from Oklahoma and only 10 weeks old. He is our darling, wonderful Darby. Then in Jan 2019 we saw a shelties picture on their website and I drove through a snowstorm to adopt her, and we named her Daisy. They are wonderful together and very playful.

We adopted Whiskey 6 years ago. He was 6 years old when we got him. Those 6 years we had together were great. He was a good dog and buddy to all of us who came to know him.

I wish I didn’t have to give a star. My wife and I adopted a kitten from this location in December of 2022. We just popped in today because we want to add another adoption, cat or dog, but are not 100% sure which one yet and wanted to see what they have available for adoption. When we walked in the lady asked what we were there for and we told her what I previously typed and were told “if you’re not serious about adopting I cannot show you anything in the back and other people treat it like a petting zoo”. So we walked out and will not be back apparently they do not want the animals adopted or repeat customers.

We arrived almost 3 hours before the event time for a specific dog that was only available at the event, no sooner. We were first in line for the dog. When it was 11:00 we told the shelter the dog we were here for only to be told that moment the dog "was spoken for" and adopted. Exact wording. We were first! How is that possible?"Supposedly" that morning the foster decided to keep it even though Anderson's state they want fosters to provide a week notice if they wanted to keep it.What's stranger is the dog was there. If it's been "spoken" for and adopted....why is it even there?Regardless of scam type of situation it was, to sit there for almost 3 hours being first in line for the dog to be told, the moment the event start of the dog is no longer available is unacceptable. Why would an organization allow a foster family or "whoever" to decide before the event starts that it's theirs.Lots of underhanded things that went on. Beware of this place! The way this has been handled has put such a terrible taste in my mouth, my daughter has been crying as we told her the dog was ours when we saw we were first for her. Needless to say this will be our last experience ever coming here.I would recommend looking closer into your policies and foster families to ensure this type of situation should NEVER arise to another hopeful family. Heartbreaking. Shameful.

Not a good place to adopt from. I called today to obtain information about the adoption process. I was told there is no application and after you meet the animal if there is a good fit you take them home. Of course once you pay. I get there and after talking and visiting with the furbaby, I start to speak about my current dog. Im then told that they need to meet my dog. I wish I was told that over the phone before driving so far. I didnt adopt today. I feel sorry for the pups, the place is not concerned how we will treat the animals by having us complete an app and reviewing references. They was only worried if the dogs get along. The dogs are not abusing and not feeding these furburbabies its human beings. The entire process is backwards. They should be able to take dogs in, it seems as if they are not safe there either.

I love coming in here with my kids. The staff is friendly and helpful! Plus we absolutely LOVE seeing all the dogs & cats available for adoption. The kids even saved their lemonade money to buy items for Anderson's.

Love Anderson Shelter on Randall Rd in North Aurora. Adopted my beautiful cat Benji in Feb 18. He was skin n bones n was losing his hair from not eating. They tube fed him n did the best they could. I chose him because he needed love n attention. He's a beautiful grey tabby with thick hair now. Sweetest boy. Love that little guy.

I was searching for a pup to be a part of our family. On Saturday when I called for an appt. They stated they go by appt. only and gave me an appt. for Sunday at 4pm. However, when I arrived at the location on Randall Rd, they told me I couldn't see a dog because they didn't have me down. They also stated that the person on the phone shouldn't have told me to walk in and that I needed a deposit. Clearly they need a better system of communication. Will not go back.

We brought our dog, and the ladies working there gave her so much attention! After walking through the awesome barn, and of coarse looking through the cool things, our dog roamed the farm yard, having a great time! We will be bringing items this week to donate,so they can sell to help pay for the dogs!

Someone I know adopted a cat and then a few days, and $500 on vet costs later, the cat was diagnosed with feline leukemia.I don’t think this shelter tests their cats for feline leukemia and now my friend will lose a cat from sickness that she just got.
