Please adopt from here! This is a great animal shelter than has to euthanize for space and they are so over crowded and have so many amazing animals. Super friendly, healthy, young, cute etc. Staff does their best to care for all the animals and help adoptions. Please consider fostering or adopting!!

Very helpful and caring staff. I fostered, and then adopted my cat Luna, (Tibbet). Now I am looking to get another adoptee. :)

Our husky escaped and was taken by animal control to the Humane Society of Southern Illinois. They took awesome care of her and not unreasonably priced to get her back.

Im not the type to rate places badly but it would be great if you got the hours online figured out. I’ve called you all 8+ times and I have been hung up on and sent to voice mail a numerous amount of times. It’s says your open from 12-4:30 today but I haven’t been able to get through once. It’s highly unprofessional

ZERO STARS for staff interaction. Absolutely appalling how they treat people who come in and to those who donate. On top of that the place is DIRTY and smells of cat pee very badly. I am pregnant and stepping in there felt like a major health hazard.Overall NOT a good place.

Everything was great. Friendly staff and got a beautiful kitten. Please donate to the operation if you can. They perform a valuable service for dogs and cats.

Actually came in to have a quick look at the animals and inform them we were planning on leaving a $500 donation and wanted it to be taken inside instead of sitting in the crate outside. Also planned on tipping staff for not calling ahead EVEN THOUGH the sign on their door said walk-ins are welcomed until 4:00 we arrived at 3:40 and they said they ended at 3:30. Not what the sign said. Staff was RUDE. Slammed the door in our face twice making us feel extremely unwelcome. Took our donation to a no-kill shelter instead. Even though needing an application to even view the animals isn’t in the staff hands, extremely unconventional and I have not had another shelter do such thing.

Really rude intake! The attendees taking the animals to the kennels were really nice. The girl that took the dogs 🐕 😒 🙄 was so rude, acting as if she was annoyed at doing her job. So much for me knowing the strays I rescue are safe.

E mailed them pictures and bio of my missing pet. They responded quickly and helped me pass my info along. I was pleased.

Very rude staff on the phone. Their system says they are open Wednesday, but after finally getting through, an employee told me “we are closed that’s why no one is answering the phone” when I inquired about the hours because I just listened to it say they were open, she told me to check Facebook because they posted it there but won’t update their message. I do not have any social media so I’m unable to know about that. They are either lazy or incompetent because she said they won’t change the message and that’s the only way to learn their hours. I’m trying to get a hurt stray cat help, because I don’t have a car. But the employees their don’t seem to care about the well-being of pets or just doing their job in general. I feel bad for any animal that goes through here.

Staff was educated and polite, and the animals seemed well cared for and happy, despite being in a shelter. It was clean and neat, and staff was walking dogs, playing with cats, and offering things for the animals to do. Even though they are not a no-kill, they seem like they truly do their best for the animals. They also vet their adopters really well so you can tell they care about finding them the right home, not just any home that will take them. They also offer low cost Spay/Neuter vouchers that multiple vets in the area accept.

Very rude, found a lost dog and was trying to do the right thing. Treated as if we were abandoning our dog, even though we had our own dog with us. Hope they were able to help the little guy, wouldn't go there in the future. It was April 14th, a little Yorkie that we found out in Johnson Creek. His skin looked like rhino skin, his eyes were filled with goop, and had a little snaggle tooth. We were hoping that it was a lost dog that had a microchip. Unfortunately he did not. We were just trying to do the right thing, we did not appreciate being treated as if this was our dog. The male employee was the most empathetic, but the 2 females were very rude and disrespectful. Overall we wouldn't recommend your facility. We've adopted from Marion and Union county animal shelters and had much better experiences.

We picked up our puppy today and they couldn't be nicer. We may have had to drive awhile but Yadi's worth it. We got toys and treats and everyone had to say goodbye. It was sweet.

I was told to come in for a meet and greet of a puppy, and that there were no other applicants looking at this dog. I was told to bring my young children And our current dog. So I took off work, and my kids were super excited. When I called back in to get the meeting time I was told that someone else got to jump in line ahead of us. We could still come in and meet the dog but the other person will probably adopt it. Why in the world would I get my kids hopes up or waste any of my time coming in. Manager is telling me other person got to jump in line ahead of us because of their policy, which she couldn’t explain to me. Sounds to me like someone “knew the right person“ to be able to jump ahead in line. We went through a 24 hour process of being approved. VERY unprofessional!! Terrible communication between staff. Thanks for ruining my kids day. I outta bring them in so you can explain this all to them. I will take my business to a no kill shelter. I would have left a zero star Rating but there’s not an option for that

I didn't like this place. I put in an application for a dog in May and at the same time had a vaccination appointment for my own dog scheduled for that same week. Because my dog wasn't technically "up-to-date" on vaccines they had to bypass my application. I literally had the appointment scheduled for the next morning at 10am and the vet would have told them that too if they had cared to call. We were all pretty sad about it. Luckily the Randolph County Humane Society was much friendlier and we adopted our new son from there! The hour drive to Randolph was 10× more worth it than driving 10 minutes to this joint.

This is a kill shelter. They do not invest in spay/neuter. They were going to put the sweetest cat down after just 2 months of her being there. Not even 2 years old.Thankfully, a rescue stepped in and took her off the euthanasia list, got her spade and updated on vaccinations. She is the best companion ever. Sad to think she once lived in a cage. And was going to be so easily discarded. So not support this kill shelter.

Smells awful. Very unclean. No ventilation....floors were dangerously wet from humidity buildup for human visitors looking to adopt. I very nearly fell. I can't stress enough the filthy atmosphere & kennels the dogs are in as well as the room holding the cats. It smelled so horribly bad that even though I was genuinely interested in Bilbo Waggins, I simply couldn't take the smell anymore. Very saddening experience. I won't be back.

Found a lost dog while hiking the Giant City woods. Poor thing had obviously been on its own for a while, extremelythin, ears badly chewed by bugs and a bloody paw. We are full timers with three cats in a motorhome, keeping him simply wasn't an option. I was ok with leaving him here, they will get him the help he needs and because of their 98% rehoming rate.

They had my cat. Boots was impounded for being far too thin. The animal control officer didn't know that Boots was 18 years old... Cat's tend to loose massive amounts of weight when approaching their end of life. I got him back, de-wormed and anti flee treated.. Good Job!

I adopted my dog Sid from this shelter in early 2020. I had a good enough experience to want to go back. I had talked to the shelter for over a week before traveling the 5 hours just to be told the night before that plans had changed. I understand that the change was not 100% the shelters fault, therefore I didn’t give them a horrible rating. I also think they could have done more to aid the situation so I have decided that I will adopt elsewhere. I was really hurt to not get Ginger after making space in my heart and home for her, but I’m glad she has gone to a home and I pray it’s a good one. I still got my Sid from this shelter and I am forever thankful for that, he is the light of all my days and the worlds most spoiled dog!

We drove over a hour to adopt a cat. We arrived there before closing time. They refused to adopt the cat because it wasn't convenient to their schedule, even though they were still open. They don't care about their animal and they are awful people.Just found out they blocked me on Facebook for leaving a negative review, and lied in their response. Do not trust the people here. They disrespected my wife, laughed at us, lie, and block anyone who calls them out for being horrible. I feel so bad for the animals there.

Caring people. Confined space. Would be nice to see better accomodations for animals and staff. Adopted a dog and he is precious!

You have to have an appointment to go see any animals. In addition, before seeing any animals you must fill out an application. Yes, before seeing any animals and just to get in you have to fill out an application. I believe these were online but I don't know for sure. Also, they tell you you must wear a mask while half the employees in there aren't wearing them. I was told to put one on and I said why all of them over there don't have one on and one girl pictures up off the desk and said see here's mine right here...

We went to adopt a bunny. When we went to meet her we were told she was not socialized which she obviously was. They also told us that we are not responsible enough because we let our cats go outside. We called when we came back from the shelter and they claim it is cruel to let a cat go outside. Now tell me this, if a cat wants to go outside is it mean to let them out? No. Why couldn’t the shelter at least suggest not letting the rabbit outside? We never said she would be kept outside. They claimed we take bad care of our pets. If anything this shelter should be called the inhumane animal shelter. The bunny was in a tiny cage and we would have given that bunny a great home. I don’t recommend adopting from them.

A year ago we adopted our doggie Marzipan. She is one of the biggest blessings in our life. The Humane Society was the best. They answered all our questions, and made the experience of adopting our dog simple, easy, and fun. They are a great group of people. If you are thinking of adopting a pet this is the place to do it!

I got there and was immediately turned away, wouldn’t even open the door all the way… told me they wouldn’t have any dogs I’m interested in and told me I can come back after I apply on line.Idk what type of system is in place but it’s not a very welcoming one. The point is to find the dogs forever homes..

I go here once in a while to volunteer to play with the cats and take the dogs outside to the play area. Place is pretty clean and the staff is nice, feel bad though for the animals because it seems like they need more human interaction. Wish more people would volunteer their time here, it's well worth it!

Traveled over an hour to buy a 45 dollar spay coupon. According to the website this was the only time to get one every month. Got there and they were closed but the cleaning people were there. She asked her higher-up if they could go ahead and let me purchase one and they told me to come back the next day when they were open. Called before leaving to see If there were still any left and by the time I arrived they informed me they had sold out. Also didn't realize this is a kill shelter.
