Big John's is a wonderful full service grocery store. Each time we have visited Metropolis, this store has fulfilled all of our needs & cravings. Their selections are vast in every department. Staff is always friendly and helpful. My favorite part, I must admit, is the giant "Big John" statue out front. Each town has their unique landmarks; Metropolis has 2: Superman & Big John. I hope this never changes.

The store always looks clean. Their meat department has a wide selection of cuts and good prices. It is well organized. The clerks are very helpful when trying to locate an item. The weekly ads have a good selection of items.

Great food market and deli conveniently located just off 5th Street on your way into town. The employees are polite, courteous and attentive. They have good meats and the chicken and other meats in the deli are really delicious. Plenty of parking and well worth a stop through town to stock up while traveling and stopping to see the Superman statue.

I went to Big John's on 10/22/2023 and got some cool whip the next day I started eating it and thought it tasted off so I look on the bottom of the cool whip container and found out it expired 10/27/2021

Love the 5 for 25 deals, but needs more options.. Always a nice staff, and clean store, but, they're extremely expensive! We just moved here, and I got to tell you, if I can help it, I'm going to Paducah to grocery shop. Things are twice as high in this store, compared to Walmart, or Kroger, or even Banks, which is also a pricey store. Cut back a little on your prices, you have all this area to feed, you are in no way shape or form, in need of customers. But, you are in fact losing them, because you are straight pricing them out of your store. Not asking for a HUGE drop in prices, but I suggest you look up your competitors prices on your same inventory, (also, keep in mind, your inventory is limited in comparison) and see what the actual difference is. I bet it's an eye opener.. Either way, great store, but only use it for emergencies..

Nice little store, good variety. We stopped in passing thru on a week long trip to Shawnee and saw they had cakes so we grabbed a birthday cake and the ladies there were so amazing they right then and there took the cake we picked and wrote happy birthday for our daughter on it in less than 5 minutes!! It really meant alot and made the cake perfect and it tasted delicious as well!!

Big John's is well stocked. They carry things that only large box stores carry in some areas of the country. Sometimes the prices on certain items is rather high. BUT....they run excellent sales. I would offer only 1 piece of advice and it probably just boils down to a training issue. It's an "old school" rule, I know, but it should be followed today just for respect. Associates should never have conversations of an unrelated work topic while waiting on a customer. Such as,. A cashier talking to another cashier about something that went on with someone else...etc.etc. the customer feels ignored and in the way. When you walk in Big John's you can immediately tell that people have worked hard to keep the store neat, clean, and organized. It's a shame to have a negative experience at the last point of customer contact eradicate all the hard work that has already taken place. Will I shop there again? Absolutely!Update as of 5-11-22, With so many stores running out of things, they are still amazingly well stocked. Some things may be priced a bit higher, as you may expect in smaller food chains, but they run really good specials. Also, you always see someone working in the produce section, and it shows! It always looks good and fresh.

Wonderful hometown grocery store. Friendly staff & owners, and very supportive of local community! Great selection of local wines & supercold walk-in beer cooler. Delicious hot meals to go at the deli counter, and everything else you need for a picnic, cookout, or camping at Fort Massac… all within walking distance. Don’t forget to take a picture with Big John and Superman while you’re in town!

Leslie and Paige were very helpful when I needed to call in an order for someone else to pick up for us since we couldn't get there ourselves due to the weather. I gave a general description of what I thought I needed, they made sure we had enough toiletries too, and had it all ready to be picked up within the hour. The grocery selection was perfect. Thank you ladies!!!

I'm a trucker and found ample room to park here and shop. Impressive variety...I actually found all the oddball stuff I wanted/needed. Decent prices. Friendly folks. Just a few minutes off the interstate. EZPZ.

Best meats, deli and produce plus super nice employees!!! I will always be a Big John's shopper. The people who work here really are helpful and kind. They work hard to make things easier to find and will always make you feel better. From produce, dairy, delicious deli, the best meat department around and huge frozen foods section!!! This store has it all, oh and a beer and wine section topped by the best prices around. If you haven't tried this store, you are missing out. I recommend Metropolis Big John's!!!
