We love Malta vet. Super friendly. Quick appointments and straight to the point. We've been taking our pets here for 20 years. It was the current vets father when we started going there. Now it's the original vets son and they've been fantastic.

My boyfriend and I have 2 dogs. We brought them to this place a couple of times. We canceled one time due to a family emergency. Apparently, if you cancel, they will drop you as a client. So the other day, my dog had gotten into some Eucalyptus cream. If you have animals, you know it can kill them. So I called and asked for advice on what to do. They said that since I had canceled, I was no longer a client, and they would not help me. I had asked if they thought I should bring him to an emergency vet, and they wouldn't even answer that. So my advice don't even bother with them if you have an emergency. Or don't cancel even if a family member died.

After using a vet about 45 min away for 20 years or so I thought I would give this place a chance as they are much closer. Initially the vibe was unwelcoming and I felt like everyone was mad. Ok maybe a bad day…This was a meet and greet get established appointment. The “vet” orders his staff around to ask questions instead of coming and speaking to you directly which now I see why. I have been there a few times now with the same treatment however today was the deal breaker. My Beagle got into garbage unknown initially to me as I was not home and my adult daughter didn’t tell me until I had to investigate the issues. I took my dog in for an X-ray. They took her back then the vet told his staff to tell me he wants to also do “labs”. Mind you I can hear everything he’s saying and sounds rude and annoyed. I asked for a price breakdown as nothing was discussed and I had no idea until asking that this visit is now $500. I told the girl I don’t have that today and I just want to do the xray for now and if she needs further treatment I will have to redo all this at the emergency vet anyway ( she has been in icu before and that is how it went, they repeat everything anyway even if just done). So the vet comes into the room clearly annoyed and said I need to do labs. I said I just want the xray for now as I don’t have $500 to spend here unexpectedly today. His reply was “unexpectedly” your dog ate chicken bones on Tuesday and you don’t have $500 to spend today and walked out. Literally never even spoke to me or made eye contact other then this. I said you know what bring me my dog we will go somewhere else. Unprofessional, rude, bad vibes all the way in this place. From many other reviews I’m not the only one who’s felt this way

I’ve taken my cats here for a few years now due to them being the cheapest and the closest, but have decided they are better off somewhere else. Any time a concern about my cats is brought up it is immediately brushed off like it is no concern. The vet has repeatedly told me my cat is overweight when he very clearly is not and overall the vet seems very careless. The vet techs are kind for the most part, just the vet who doesn’t care at all. I don’t trust bringing any pets here anymore.

Our dog was brought to the vet on Thursday Oct 26. He was to stay there for 10 days after a biting incident for an observation.When I dropped him off I did not notice any issue with his skin but admit that I did not check him forensically.I called on Monday October 30 to check on his progress and was told he was doing fine. Then approximately 3:30pm on Friday November 3 the day before he was scheduled to be collected I received a call to inform me that Spock had a skin infection and an ear infection and asked if I would like for this to be treated?I asked when these issues had been identified and was told he came in with those issues. He showed no sign of the issues when I left him off but if it was noticed that he had them when he arrived then why was I not notified immediately or even updated when I called 4 days into his stay? If he had these issues upon arrival why was I not informed and why was he not offered help until right before he was due to come home? I asked this at the front desk when I picked him up and the best answer I could get was “He was here for a bite observation “ indicating that his general well being was not a concern or responsibility? Assuming that was true then why offer to help at all?The other possibility is that he did not have these issues when he arrived and he picked them up while in the vet’s care? Either answer leaves me very concerned about how he was cared for?We also noticed that he has lost a considerable amount of weight when we got him back, he ate so much when he got home.I picked him up early (8am) and the dog barely got 2 minutes down the street before I had to bring him to do his business, doubt he had been out in hours.I paid $600+ in full the day he arrived there and would have expected him to come home in as good condition as he was brought in.I emailed the vet directly before posting this but have yet to receive a response.

These people are rude as hell they lie, it’s not a good vet, my yorkie been there since Friday the cost to get him out was $105 then somebody lie and tell me the price goes up everyday which wasn’t Specified to me the first day I called. I asked to speak to the manager she told me he wouldn’t talk to me

Very quick to get us in with my cat, it was bad news but the staff help you so much through euthanasia. Very comforting environment and they let me stay as long as I needed.

I posted a couple months ago and I don’t see the post! So I am going to repost because this vet clinic shouldn’t be taking care of animals! My dog broke his foot, they casted it! As weeks went by the vet would not even come in the room and address my concerns! Tried to talking to the vet tech, she was the most condescending snip! I took my dog to another vet to reveal major sores under the cast that I was not told about! They just kept saying keep it dry. One was not even on the foot, it was his knee, they were wrapping it way to tight!! I also have issues with the cleanliness of this place! It stinks so bad!

Needed care for my two kittens, gave this place a shot and will be a returning client for sure. They were quick, efficient, and straight to the point. Very reasonable prices. I was highly pleased with Malta Vet Hospital!

Staff are extremely rude and abusive when called out on their negligent and rude behavior they double down, they are negligent in the care of the animals (under feeding, not treating illness properly nor informing the owner etc) under their care for prolonged periods of time and they do not communicate properly with customers.I would not take my animals here. I don’t care how many positive reviews they have previously had don’t do it because clearly something has changed and if they are struggling then they need to humbly acknowledge that instead of getting defensive and acting inappropriate toward customers, either way it’s still no excuse for their behavior toward customers and their animals.I have also taken my animals to vets in numerous states when I was in the military or living in other states and countries and never had issues at an vets office until moving to Illinois and my dog going here to this place. This vet partners with the state of IL and shouldn’t be able to, end of. Avoid this one.

My parents have been going to this veterinary clinic for over 30 years. Back in the day, this clinic was top notch, I remember going in as a kid, and the staff was always friendly.When I called informing I was concerned my dog had a UTI I was told they didnt have any availability and to find another office.I have been taking my dogs there now for at least 4 years, and I'm DONE. The staff is beyond rude, and I'm not paying someone to speak to me that way or allow his staff to. The negativity at this office is clearly contagious.The staff at this office has called family member's phone numbers that don't belong to me and discussed my animals' personal information with others.On other occasions, voices were raised at my mother for asking questions on things that she didn't understand pertaining to her dogs health.I recently called and asked for my pets records, and I wasn't verified. I was asked for my pets name and email to send it to. Those records have all of my personal information on it. Full name, address, phone number, etc.I found a different vet, and I'm thankful I decided to find someone else to care for my pets.

I don’t think I have ever written a Google review but I am crying right now. Their prices really just saved me so much stress, my kitten needs de-worming and I was estimated $145 (before Tax) at the Rochelle vet and about $65 here. Not to mention having to wait almost two week for my appointment in Rochelle (my availability being ANYDAY ANYTIME) but only two days scheduling here. If you’re a broke/ an NIU college student needing a vet HIGHLY recommend calling here! Again I am literally crying from relief.

Do yourself a huge favor! Go somewhere else please. I couldn't even get the courtesy of talking with the doctor to express my concerns. Instead the desk girl was just like " We see this all the time, trust me". What a joke. On top of that they give the cheapest version of meds available and upcharge it 3 times the value.He prescribed medication that specifically says (For otic use in dogs ONLY)to my cat and then no returns... Paul W. Augustine, you should be ashamed of yourself. Not only is this neglect but carelessness when care is the reason you have this business. You most definitely lost my business. Like I said before. Go anywhere but here.

Dr. Paul Augustine is far and away the best vet around. He has put up with me and my family, all crazy dog people, for many, many years. He has treated our dogs like the family members they are, and has always given us care and compassion as well. Most recently he spent a considerable amount of time helping us realize that to continue to treat our dog would not be in the dog's best interest. He knew we loved that dog, and probably would have gone to great lengths and expense to help him, and he was honest and open regarding the dog's prognosis but never told us what to do, just carefully explained all the options. When we finally came to terms with needing to put him down, Dr. Augustine was right there, reassuring and comforting us. But more importantly he was those things to our dog. We never felt rushed in the process, even though he squeezed us in on a Saturday morning. You won't find a vet who cares more about your pets. The staff is helpful and friendly and Dr. Paul Augustine is the only person I will ever trust with the care of my two dogs or any others that join the family going forward.

Worst veterinary clinic I’ve ever been to…they’re thirsty for money and act like they don’t want you there been there multiple times and the employees are very dry and give you no description into anything handed me meds multiple times and not even a word was said about them until I asked. My dog got surgery and he didn’t come home with a cone then they tried telling me I had to purchase one? You would think you get one when he obviously needs it, I wouldn’t recommend this place to no one.

Great Staff and very helpful. I am a worrier and they never treat me like I am annoying when I call over small things. (Even though I probably am annoying) One of our dogs is rescued, had a rough past, has very low confidence and is very fearful when outside of the safe space of his home. The entire staff is so understanding and careful with him.

I love and highly recommend Malta Veternary Hospital. The staff is friendly, kind and careful. They are also very considerate of your pets needs and take the time to listen to your concerns. They also can get you in fairly quickly if needed. Always polite and courteous. My two dogs love it there. They're very good with my roommates dog who has hip issues, and gets anxious, as well as my dog who can be a bit hyper. I am so glad to have found such an amazing vet. Thank you all. Keep up thebgood work. The prices are also reasonable, and I like that they will tell you if something isn't necessary. Love this place so much.

We ended up saving a stray Doberman with heartworm. Malta Animal Hospital was awesome on working out a program with us to save this beautiful animal. We dealt with Gail and the doctor. If you go there ask for Gail. She rocks! This is a person absolutely wholoves animals!Update three years later. Astro the Doberman is doing fantastic. Love him to death. Sweetest dog I've ever known. I can't thank Malta Animal Hospital enough for saving this beautiful animal.

I just got a new puppy from a shelter and she "Sammy" was due for shots . Malta Veterinary Hospital was highly recommended ! They were very nice and friendly on the phone when I called to set up an appointment . When I took her they were just as nice as on the phone ! Dr. Augustine is a great guy and thoroughly checked her out and she got all the shots that were needed . She also had an issue with her ears . They cleaned them up and gave me some medicine to apply for two weeks .The bottom line is that they are very thorough , very kind and very reasonable ! They definitely will be taking care of Sammy for a long long time !!

My dog ended up needed emergency staples one morning and Malta was able to take her in right away. The staff here are so friendly and professional and I really felt at ease there (even though I was freaking out!). So grateful that we wound up here. And also appreciate how fast each appointment was.

Dr Augustine is always fast, nice and most importantly: correct. Every time I bring my pup and we get a treatment, it's worked. The prices are fair and the vet techs are always very sweet. They always get us in pretty quick too. I'm glad this place is around to serve the outlying smaller communities and their pets.

We brought our big Irish wolfhound after he had a fall. Although it didn't work out as we hoped the doctors, nurses and other staff were fantastic. They took great care of Owen and us too. I would definitely take our other dog here knowing they would give him the best care possible

Average to below average. Anytime you call for something they recommend any alternative to a professional answer. Multiple times I was willing to bring my dog in for digestive issues and their standard over the phone is " try a bland diet"? Be wary of the reception here; this is also where strays in the county get dropped off so they really may not take their practice seriously.

We have been using Malta Veterinary Hospital for multiple family dogs and have always had a great experience. A couple of times we have had our dog attacked by other dogs and was able to come in to have her checked out the same day. Yearly checkups have also been similar. Always friendly staff and you get in to see the vet when your appointment is scheduled. Great for someone who is very busy.I highly recommend Dr Augustine

Very good vet we have used since the 80s. Less expensive than the vets in DeKalb. They also offer boarding if you have trouble administrating meds for a short time.
