My wife and I have stayed at these cabins yearly since 2015. They are always clean and cozy. They are secluded in the woods providing privacy and the enjoyment of nature. We highly recommend them for a romantic getaway or family reunion. We have done both.Walkability: We enjoy walking in woods around the cabins.

Really on the fence with this one. On the surface the cabin is cozy and in a great location. After an extended weekend I don't think I can recommend staying here. Firstly the raised post bed in one of the bedrooms was one of the loudest creakiest peaces of home decor ever created. Initial inspection of amenities revealed no coffee despite website indicating there would be. A call placed to the number provided in the "angry book" (more on that coming) with a message left was never responded to. The Angry Book outlines countless violations and policies that will result in various amounts of additional charges. All in all the experience was "Meh" up until moments before leaving. As we were leaving an impressively large cockroach was spotted walking across the front room table. This sealed the deal for me. The angry book didn't say anything about compensation for our luggage being potentially infested by bugs. Please use caution here.

My husband and I rented Cabin 2 for three nights. Everything was clean and stocked with all the essential items. Very peaceful and relaxing!!! We will definitely come back!!! Even our little pup was relaxed.Walkability: The area around is so peaceful for walking..

This was exactly what we were looking for to have a relaxing weekend. Easy to find, feels secluded but just 15 minutes from restaurants and grocery stores. Pet friendly which was wonderful and the cabin was very clean. We loved the fire pit and hot tub. And cabin is very close to several hiking areas. It is perfect for a peaceful weekend getaway!

Oak Grove and their sister cabins Walnut Grove are the perfect place to go relax in the woods. The nearby towns have a good assortment of restaurants, Giant City State Park, and SIU are all nearby, making these cabins a good place to stay while exploring the Illinois wine trail, or going to events at the campus. The cabins are clean and cozy, the hot tub is nice for soaking tired muscles and achy joints, and the shady back porches make a wonderful place to sit and watch nature. After 15 years of coming to these cabins and others in the area, we keep returning to Oak Grove!

What a disappointment this place was for our anniversary weekend! The hot tub was not in working order, they do not have good customer service, the place is in need of a lot of TLC, and it is dirty! There is dust caked on the walls, door frames, and wall hangings. We were not given anything except a last minute $50 apology fee the last night of our stay, as it took this long for the owners to even have that much of a consideration for their guests happiness. Then, on top of it, they send someone out to work on the hot tub on our last night (real helpful) at 6:30 and he is there (interrupting our privacy now) until 8! The hot tub was still broken when we checked out. Good luck to the next people. This place is a joke and they definitely do not care about customer satisfaction. Seems like the old owner did a great job and since it changed hands, it is going down. What a not relaxing anniversary weekend!

This is my favorite place to get away. These cabins are in a perfect, secluded setting in the deep Southern Illinois Woods. I’ve stayed in two different cabins and they both were lovely. Clean hot-tubs, wonderful interiors to the cabins- the beds are comfortable and the linens were clean! I’m staying here whenever I visit Southern Illinois!

My husband and I have stayed several times. Everything is perfect, every time! Dorthy is a perfect hostess...always available to help if you need anything, but 100% respectful of your privacy if you don't. The cabins are very well stocked with everything you need, just bring your personal items and food (they provide seasonings, coffee, pots, pans, utensils...etc) and absolutely spotless. The hot tub is wonderful, as is the back deck, firepit, grill, gas fireplace and the beautiful view. Also all the cabins are totally private. We've stayed at the 2 bedroom, original cabins as well as the new "couples cabins" dubbed Walnut Grove and both are so enjoyable. We will continue to visit frequently!

The staff were very helpful and area was quaint. The cabin was set up nicely however the inside and outside could use some weekly TLC. Meaning the cleanliness was not the best. Lots of dust hanging on high especially on the pictures, fans, windows, and cooking area. My wife cleaned out the underside of the hanging microwave as it was extremely dirty. The bed mattress could use an upgrade as they were very uncomfortable. Could not get a restful sleep. I really think a little bit of an upgrade yearly on the couches and beds and a weekly professional cleaning of the inside may bring back more returning clients.

Well-maintained and nicely decorated cabins with some great views of the woods! An outstanding spot for a secluded getaway or as a base for exploring the western side of Shawnee. Several access points for Cedar Lake, and all of Giant City State Park within a short drive.

This is such a cute cabin (redbud cabin) and would be an awesome place to stay if the amenities actually were maintained and worked. We noticed the night we got there that the hot tub water was cold and we couldn't get any power to even turn it on. This was the main reason we went...a hot tub after a day of hiking. Then the ceiling fan in the bedroom wouldn't work and my boyfriend thinks it had been broken for awhile...he's a handy man on the side of fighting fires. Even more disappointing when we both have crazy schedules (bc hes a first responder and im a front line worker) and it makes getting 3 days off together very difficult. 😔 The property has so much potential...just lacking some TLC.

The cabin was beautiful and in a great location. Secluded, but close to town. I had to rate 4 stars because, like other reviews, I had a terrible time getting in contact with the owner. I tried calling several times, leaving voicemails, email, and fb message! Finally got a reply the night before my rental. If I weren't living just a hop and a skip up the road, I would have been panicked not knowing if my reservation was confirmed. I personally wouldn't rent if I lived out of state for this reason.

My wife and I just returned from four days/three nights at Oak Grove Cabins. We stayed in Cabin #2. It was absolutely wonderful. We were there celebrating our first anniversary and couldn't have asked for a more beautiful setting. If you're looking for a truly secluded location to spend a few days, these cabins are perfect. We look forward to coming back again in the future!

I stayed in two of these cabins with a dog. They were amazing! Very clean and stocked with everything you need. Very close to hiking trails and the Shawnee wine trail. The cabins are connected to satellite TV and the hot tub is wonderful. I highly recommend these cabins!

The cabins were neat and the furnishings fit in with being in the woods. My son enjoyed the hot tub after a long day of climbing. The appliances were very modern though we only used the refrigerator.

We stayed in Cabin 1 and were pleasantly surprised with the accommodations! The cabin had plenty of space, was very clean, and included all of the household items you would need. The location is very easy to find from the highway and was a quick drive to Giant City State Park and all of the local wineries. We will definitely be returning to Oak Grove Cabins.

The Oak Grove Cabins are a fantastic find for staying on the Shawnee Wine Trail. The cabins are in the perfect location as they are secluded (you can't see even your cabin neighbors) and a short drive to the Highway. The cabins are clean, well built and just the perfect getaway spot. Outside the wine trail, the area offers golfing, hiking, biking and access to great food in Carbondale. Take advantage of this affordable getaway. You'll enjoy it!

My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary. We met at SIUC so it was great to be back! The cabin was clean and secluded. The hot tub was nice and our cabin was pet friendly so we were able to bring our dog as well.

Since 2008 I've been staying at Oak Grove Cabins, and more recently Walnut Grove Cabins, whenever I visit Southern Illinois. There are many reasons that I keep coming back to the cabins...incredible hosts Dorothy & Ron; gorgeous secluded cabins with the convenience of being just a few minutes away from Carbondale; and great location in the heart of the Shawnee Wine Trail. If you are planning a trip to Southern Illinois, I highly recommend you consider a stay at Oak Grove or Walnut Grove Cabins!
