I love this stop we made on our spring break 2024. I don't know that name of the store on the far right as you look at this board walk - there was an art garden, and it was so cool! I was free, but there was a donation jar. My family really enjoyed this random gem - it was just fun roaming and seeing what this artist had created and was willing to share =)

Pleasant experience staying at bluestem Retreat. This place is 2100 dollars a month, but the apartment is a gem. It's 10 minutes from downtown Makanda. The landlord expects people to respect his place and take care of it. Needed to contact him as to how to work the stove, he texted back to look for the book by the couch and read the detail on stove. What a professional he is. He's a retired master sergeant and environmental advocate. We never needed to contact him directly again. The book was so organized and detailed. We were so embarrassed that he had thought about every detail, we went back to our lease agreement, and it was clearly outlined to read the book first. If not explained in the book, then contact him. He was on a hike with his family in the great outdoors contained in the book. Again, we were so embarrassed 😳. We are never staying anywhere else.

01/27/2024We stopped in at the Makanda Trading Post to pick up some incense and a tapestry. They have the largest selection of incense I have seen. I wish I would have taken a photo of the inside. They have a huge selection of unique items. Picked up a Chevron Amethyst skull I have been eyeing for a while. They have many quartz and crystal items. They have tapestries, the dye shirts, Baja pull overs, swords, knives, jewelry, of course items with the Makanda smiley face water tower. There are too many items to name. All I can say if you're hippie, it's happening at the Makanda Trading Post. We have always had a pleasant experience when we've been to any of the stores at the Boardwalk. The best Hippie Town in Illinois

The shops are interesting but we didn't find much of interest to us. One shop seems geared toward vulgarity and another toward marijuana, so we didn't stay long. If you want ice cream though, there's some in one of the shops. The people were generally nice.

A unique and fun place to stop along your journey through nature. If you have kids or just are a kid at heart. Check out the maze and castle behind the stores . Really cool.

Makanda Boardwalk always has unique art and curiosities for all. The Makanda Country Store is the positive-vibe center of it all.

Fun place to visit. This is a small venue of shops offering an amazing array of crafty artsy items. Very laid back feel. Prices reasonable. Some of the artisans allow you to watch them in action. Would recommend and return.

This was the absolute coolest little boardwalk I've ever been to. I can't wait to come back in visit in June. The crystal shop and all the art were my absolute favorite.

It’s like a slice of eureka springs. The shops are so cool and the ice cream was fresh. The garden behind the sculpture was so cool. Great drive from giant city and everyone was so pleasant.

A fun place to visit and shop. It is an eclectic community of old hippies selling their wares. There is a coffee shop, an art gallery, a Hindu shop, and at the far end, a shop that defies description. But if you have been to the House on the rock, this is the hippy version, selling jewlrey.

Cute small town with interesting shops. Gives ya a 70s feel. There is a small garden of Gods behind the main street strip that is really nice. Every time I'm in the Shawnee I try to stop here

Beautiful place with wonderful shops. After a few visits you'll know the shop owners by name and want to return often. Rainmaker's Garden is like something out of a fairy tail. I love getting a hand dipped ice cream cone from Makanda Java and enjoying it while strolling through the garden.
