We paid a lot of money for a bird and didn’t even have it a month and it passed away. We drove two hours to pick up the bird. It was a birthday present. The guy said there’s nothing he can do. Well, what you could do is be sympathetic and tell the owners you’re sorry for their loss!!! He died on my moms birthday and Thanksgiving day!! The worst thing to wake up to! Her screaming will be forever traumatizing. Out 10k with the bird, food, medical bills etc.

It has everything for birds the food toys. He watches birds when someone goes out of town. Also he has a Doctor that comes every 6 months I do believe might be sooner but I take my Grey African red tail there and I absolutely love this place.

super knowledgeable guy up front and he doesn’t like people wasting his time which i very highly respect. he knows more about birds than some vets i believe and he treated me very well when i came in to check out a new parakeet and get some treats. i ended up getting my bird miko from him and he has been a good bird. the only thing i didn’t like was the amount of bugs in the store, but i would be willing to come in and help him out at the store since the wife has passed. i think he just needs an extra hand and the place would be a perfect niche spot to get everything you need from birds, to toys, to food, to especially abc knowledge and advice. thank you for everything you’ve done and i will be a returning customer❤️❤️

I bought a green cheek from here in July, I had her for 5 days and woke up one morning to find her dead. I called the store because they had told me that they have a 5 day warranty. The woman said that she'd have to ask her husband and then called me back to say that the warranty is now two days and that the SMELL of my ferrets killed her. I should have just stopped the sale in the store when they said that I'm just buying an expensive chew toy and the guy that they were friends with said he was happy when his daughter's ferrets died when I mentioned that I own ferrets as well. My conure never had contact with my ferrets by the way. I later found out that this store does zero disease testing for any of their birds. I bought another green cheek a few weeks later at a shop near Chicago and he is perfectly fine but everyday that I wake up I'm terrified that I'm going to find him dead like she was. So they sold me a sick bird for 500 hundred, and have traumatized me. Please don't buy from here. I know it seems close, but just bite the bullet and drive the two hours to a reputable store. The conure on the right is the one that died and the conure on the left is my little Milo who is doing fine.

Purchase a Green Cheek Conure from them and he is very healthy. They are on the higher price for birds but worth the money. I would recommend them as they are an older couple that has been in business and is not new to bird care or breeding.

During the warmer seasons there are bugs flying all over the place. They hang out near the bird food and especially near the cages with birds in them. I’ve been there twice before and never will I go back in. They were desperate to push me to buy their custom-mix seed out of these filthy containers near the front store. Seed was way overpriced. I remember the reason I went in the one day was to ask them their opinion on cage size. I have a quaker and was wondering their professional opinion on whether I should size their cage up or not. They said that the minimum size—even a smaller cage—would suffice for my bird. I looked at the cages up front and most of them were about the same size as my bird’s current cage, just on wheels so they were taller. They were also extremely overpriced. Amazon has the same ones for half what they try to sell them for. As for the birds in the shop, I feel horrible for them. They offer a bird-sitting service and they let people bring their birds in to sit cage on the floor near all the others. They sit in walkways where if you aren’t careful you could accidentally bump into one (thankfully I was looking). The one conure they were watching was in a 12” cage with a small food and water dish where the newspaper on the bottom of the cage was disgustingly unclean. It looked like it hadn’t been changed in days. The bird looked terrified being surrounded by all these other new birds making sounds and staring at them. The poor thing was shaking. The birds they have for sale they breed by themselves in the back. Those birds all get throw into one cage together. I saw eight finches in a cage the same size as the conure. The one macaw looked so depressed. The owners told me how he can be aggressive sometimes, especially when he gets his checkups (which is when he gets his wings clipped). Of course he’d be aggressive. You’re stripping him of his freedom. The birds appeared healthy from what I could see, which is surprising given the yellow-water dishes and mountains of excrement at the bottom of each cage. They had a few green quaker parrots together. Their food dish had nothing but seed. No pellets, just seed. That’s horrible for their liver. About their toy section…they have tons of plastic toys, rope toys, and metal toys. All can be incredibly harmful for birds. Birds shouldn’t ingest plastic or string. Metal toys can cut their beaks and feet. Not to mention the few toys they did have that are safe for birds are almost double the price of toys in local pet stores. When I went up to check out, they started asking about my bird. Which is fine, until they’re just trying to get as much money out of you as possible. They have a travelling vet who comes in twice a year or so. They wanted to schedule me to bring my bird in to get a physical. They mentioned that nail clippings and wing clippings were complimentary. That’s when they tried the push clipping my bird’s wings for ten minutes. Trying to scare me with stories about irresponsible bird owners losing their birds. When they finally dropped it, they tried to make their vet seem more reputable. Claiming that he’s seen thousands of birds across the country. That he used to work at Brookfield zoo so I can trust him. They tried to slip me into his schedule even after I refused. At some point during this conversation, they told me about a time that the vet had an assistant that killed a bird during a physical. She pushed a popsicle stick too far into the bird’s mouth and caused it to bleed out. Yet they still claimed he was reputable. No thanks. This business is so shady and should be shut down. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

Extremely helpful to first time bird families looking to add an addition to the family!

Well got a baby green cheeked conure yesterday. Not from this place but wanted to get our new feathered addition a nice new cage so thought I'd stop in. Very odd vibe immediately. As we walked up to the entrance I noticed through the window it was pretty crowded, (it's a pretty small shop) probably 2 families plus the man at the counter, and no one wearing masks, (myself, my daughter, and husband all were). We noticed the sign on the outside said one customer allowed in at a time, to please wait for the customer to exit before entering. So we waited. Unmasked female opens the door and abruptly says, " He wants to know if you've been here before." I was caught off guard by the question, I hadn't ever been there before and wondered why that would possibly matter if they wanted business 🤔 but simply replied, that, " No we have not." She shuts the door and after a short conversation we are 'allowed' in with everyone else. The man at the counter gave off an extremely unwelcoming vibe, no hello or can I help with anything today but instead I received a, "What do ya want?" I told him I'm looking for a bird cage and pointed to the sort I was looking for and he gave me the highest price that I heard of thus far for the exact cage. $299 tax not included. When I visibly showed my surprise at the price he said, "That's just the way it is." Having done my research, and having owned many birds over the years, I know that's more than double the price for that particular cage and now I'll be doing what I should have done in the first place, ordering one online. 🤷‍♀️ Would have loved to recommend this place but I go by my experience so I personally do not.

If i could give no stars and still leave a review I would. The cinnamon cheek conure I bought I rescued from the terrible set up in that store. The diet they had her on was all seed and turned there nose up when I told them i would be putting her on a pellet diet. I was told that was wrong even though I researched well before I bought her and sure it was cause all they were interested in was selling their seed. They cram all their birds in one cage that isnt even big enough for one parrot. The store is pretty dirty. The people who own it are very rude and im amazed they do any business. The clipping that was done on this girl before I bought her was terrible and too short I was told by someone who knows that type of business. Its my intention to have no further clippings as that is a main source of a birds exercise is to be able to fly and she will be harness trained so that ability will be available to her. Everything is way over priced and I was definitely ripped off on the cage. I wouldn't trade my sweet girl for anything and glad I was able to give her a much better home then she had there but if i should ever decide on getting another addition to our family it wont be with this store.

Thank you to all the others who left honest reviews. When I look for a place to patron I read the 1 star reviews, if there are more than two I keep reading. It seems that over time the reviews seem to say the same thing, poor customer service, inconsistent store policy, diet concerns, shop clerks are more judgmental of customers rather than a positive position of educating customers of why they do what they do. The other thing I look for is if the business owner addresses any of the negative reviews, reviews updates with positive out come. There seems to be zero response from shop owners. This could be due low tech savviness or they may not care. Not my place to judge, just my perspective.

I was in this shop a little over a month ago. It's small, but extremely clean. I mention this, because I saw a few reviews claiming that the cages were dirty. They are not.The birds seemed friendly and there's lots of cute toys in the shop. My goddaughter bought some bird toys for her green cheek and her cockatiel and some of the little toy shoes. On a personal note, there are some needlessly harsh comments being thrown around here and I have to say: shame on you people.I highly recommend it

I got my cockatiel here and he has been the best bird I have ever owned. The owners are very knowledgeable and make sure you know everything before you go home with a bird. They also do grooming services and bird sitting if needed.

Great People . The interaction was good. I liked to meet some experienced people who have seen decades in this hobby . Even though the shop stock was a little low on inventory , they had quite a good number of inhouse breeding African Greys and Macaws. Prices were decent too. I will surely suggest a shop revamp.Even have the Avian Doctor access for customers to call up and book appointments for future dates . This doctor unlike the regular Pet Clinics is very affordable and accommodative of hobbyist passion in his service. I guess his name is Dr. Mc Donald .You may call the store to book appointments.

My husband and I are very new to the world of pet birds. We discovered this local shop and were very excited. We purchased 4 small birds to see what it was like to have pet birds. It only took a few hours to tell that we purchased birds too small for the cage we got. We called the store to ask if we could bring the birds back and purchase a bigger bird. The owner was not willing to help us at all and just reminded us that he tried to talk us into another bird. A $400 bird for our first bird was not an option. We love local places, but we will not be back here.

We got a baby cockatiel from Dick and Gloria a week ago. He is the sweetest little nugget of a bird, and so healthy too. We are so happy that we were able to get a tame member of the family instead of supporting a big box pet store as well. House of Birds is a wonderful place to purchase from.

Staff is extremely knowledgeable. Great selection of products for larger parrots that most other "pet stores" lack. If there's something you're looking for, they either have it, can get it for you, or know where to go for it. Will definitely be a customer for life!

Easy to get to. It's a small shop, but has the basics that big stores don't have like calcium and gravel perches. Also wood perches ranging from a couple feet to small in different widths. Has some birds for sale but I would recommend calling if you have a particular one in mind. They're bred but not all available all the time.

Way over priced birds. 200 difference from them and petsmart. And the petsmart ones looked healthier and less stressed, alot of them in one small cage, wrong diet for macaws, flies everywhere in the store. Birds looked stressed and sickly. Someone needs to help them run their store, or they just need to close

i found this store because i’m a mail carrier and when i delivered the mail, the older guy behind the counter was very nice. however, when i called on the phone to receive info about a parakeet recently, he was extremely short and rushed me off the phone. he asked me if i already had a cage and when i said yes, he goes well the bird is not very nice. i wouldn’t buy it. i could be wrong but i’m sure they make more money off the cages then the parakeets. customer service can be A LOT better.

We've gone here for years. You won't find better service and caring for your bird(s). They keep our parrot trimmed and groomed perfectly! This business is a perfect example of a local mom and pop store.

Where do I even start... I knew this visiting this store would be a regrettable experience the second I walked through the door. As I walk in with my friends, we are "greeted" by a group of individuals just sitting and talking around the entrance of the store. As we walked past them not one said hello, but instead they gave us dirty looks as if we walked into their home uninvited. After looking around the store, this old man behind the counter kept looking at me in a weird way. I whistled a song to a macaw there and this old man has the audacity to say "they're not dogs". I did not realize what he said until my friend told me after we left. They're not dogs? Really? Thanks for the reality check, I thought this was Furry Babies... He also acted as if I did not know the names of any of the birds. Little did he know that knew the name of every bird there (not that there were many breeds). I own two cockatiels, have owned an amazon, and a conure. These people here make you feel unwelcome and act as if you are some degenerate in their space. The birds' cages were also empty with little to no toys. These birds do not look happy, nor healthy. Please do not visit this store; you will be disappointed. Terrible service and bad care for the birds. Take your money elsewhere for your own sake.

I purchased a female parakeet from House of Birds and now my ten year old Petey is infested with scaly mites. When I contacted the store, I was rudely informed that scaly mites come out of nowhere and that they don't sell sick birds. I researched scaly mites and found the primary cause is an infested nest. Funny thing, the female is only ten months old and infestations present in birds that are anywhere from six to twelve months. I recommend that people steer clear of this store. I should have after seeing the condition of the bird cages and the way they display the birds. My next call is to health department!!

Such a nice place! The owners are very knowledgeable and so nice. We bought a pineapple conure from them and she is the sweetest bird! This is where we will be buying all of our bird supplies from for now on.

Store claims to have been around 50 years but reviews have been reset. Have heard horror stories about birds being dropped off for an hour and mysteriously dying without a corpse... seems pretty crazy and no idea how this place stays in business. Best to just stay clear of this place.

Bought a bird. It is healthy but no way it was hand fed. The cages hadn't been cleaned in some time. Considered buying off the internet. Probably will for the next one. They will advise not to. But kinda wonder where they get the ones in their shop. Sketchy.

Gloria must be part bird her self. She knows more than anyone I have ever talked to about birds and as a bonus Dr. Scott McDonald - the author of most books on birds you can buy - stops in every few months offering professional avian exam and grooming.
