This is the best veterinary office I have ever been to. Dr. McGinniss is amazing! He's very personable, professional, knowledgeable, patient focused, and understanding. We could not have asked for a better Veterinarian! Whenever we bring our cat in, we know she will have the best care. The staff is very communicative, warm, and friendly. Justine, one of the technicians, is truly wonderful. Her gentle, warm, personable and compassionate nature made me feel at ease when my cat had anxiety about coming in. Don't hesitate to give Animal Hospital if Lake Villa a call! You are in good hands for sure!

We had a great experience at Animal Hospital of Lake Villa. The staff was incredibly nice, very informative and patient. We have not had a dog in over 15years so I did have a lot of questions! I would highly recommend Animal Hospital of Lake Villa to anyone looking for the best care for their fur babies!

The Vet and staff spent lots of time with us answering questions and making us feel right at home. I so glad I got a second on from them regarding my pet’s situation and learned that no two vet are the same . The only negative thing is the lobby still closed where other vets have Thierry lobbies open . But I understand that these days safety is first of all else.

In early January, after spending almost $500, the Vet said our dog would die a miserable death within two weeks if we didn't spend an additional undetermined amount of money on diagnostic services and hundreds of dollars a month on maintenance including twice a day injections. We chose not to put our 10 year old blind dog through that trauma. Almost three months later with no treatment, there is little change in her. She's eating, drinking, sleeping and eliminating normally. I cannot get anyone to return my multiple calls to explain. I've left messages for the last three days. Feeling abandoned!

If you read any review, read this one!!! I could write a 10 page essay on how wonderful Animal Hospital of Lake Villa is. I went to two different vets in the city and my standard for care for my baby boy was just not met. I came to Animal Hospital of Lake Villa because I grew up in the area and still have family in the area. The entire staff is friendly, attentive, and helpful with any and all questions I ever had. The doctors are knowledgeable, friendly, understanding, and wonderful listeners. I have never had an issue at this vet. They even have freshly cooked chicken breast for the animals which my puppy absolutely loves. They clearly love their job and love animals and treat each pet like their own. I CANNOT recommend them enough! Here’s a picture of my pup too.

I can’t say enough good things about LVAH. It is always stressful when your pet is sick but they take such good care of your pets. My cat Donatello was super frightened during his exam. Dr. Unger cuddled him like he was his own pet. Everyone I have dealt with is so caring and understanding. They ease my worries & I worry a lot!! 11/10 would recommend!!!! ♥️♥️♥️😻

Our poor cat Shade had to be hospitalized. They did a fantastic job, taking care of him and nursing him back to health. Destiny was exceptionally helpful and wonderful. They gave us daily updates at least twice a day. Dr. Unger was great at explaining everything. He was very kind to us and Shade. They were always upfront about the price and making us aware before proceeding with anything. We are all aware that healthcare costs are very high. This is not the fault of AHLV and they do their best to keep cost down. I highly recommend AHLV.

This is the best vet hospital ever! They are the perfect mix of recommending the best care but not pushing to go overboard and the staff, where do I begin? They are all kind, compassionate and caring folk! And boy do they know their stuff! I worked in the industry for much of my career and so I’ve seen a lot of vet hospitals and this one is at the top!

Overall the place is ok. The people seem nice for the most part and I'd say accomodations for you and your pet, while you're at the office, are where they excel. The communication, however, is nothing short of tragedy. This was probably the most upsetting part for me because communication, especially in situations like ours, is probably the most important tool. Unfortunately it did not seem like that was a tool they wanted to exercise. After having an ultimately quick, and in hindsight now, careless evaluation, that came back negative. After us having to come back for the follow up with even less information or communication than the initial visit. After the lack of, truly simple, questions getting any answerers. I can't confidently suggest this office. If being educated and involved, about what your animal is going through and communication are important things to you as a pet parent I would urge you too look at other options before settling in this location, sadly.

I usually do not write reviews but when it comes to my fur babies, i make sure to do my research thoroughly and extensively. When I moved, the first thing I did was look for a vet for my two dogs. The top requirements were good ratings and reviews, reasonably priced, and a reasonable distance from where I lived. Out of the handful of vet offices I looked up in the area, Animal Hospital of Lake Villa had some of the best reviews and more than most places in total reviews. I took my chances and I can honestly say I am happy I did. They are friendly and caring for my girls and me. They listened and worked with me to figure out what was going on with one of my dogs and found a treatment plan that worked for us. They are always kind and friendly, get you in as soon as possible, and they even have a point system where you can get discounts on visits! As far as pricing goes, they are average for the area. I 100% recommend this vet office for your fur babies.

This has to be the most pet and people friendly animal hospital in Illinois. The staff is super friendly and easy to talk with. I was greeted with smiles, friendly conversation and an offer of a cup of coffee. The staff and doctors cuddle and hug your pets and offer calm reassuring conversations with them . They have a separate entrance and waiting area for dog and separate entrance and waiting area for cats and other pets. They have the plug in pheromones scents for dogs and cats to help your pet stay calm. They offer smoked chicken breast to dogs as they examine them to make the trip to the vet as stress free as possible. We have been bringing our pets here for 18 years.

Love this Fear Free atmosphere and their willingness to work with your dog at the dog's pace. Carl Shanor was especially helpful in making sure my young dog had her vaccinations done in the most effective way possible, and the whole staff treats you and your pet like family. The doctors are amazing. I would never take my pets anywhere else and I highly recommend them, especially if you have an animal that might need a little extra love and encouragement! Grace and Dr. McGuiness were able to handle my very nervous cat including drawing blood and getting a shot, in such a kind and caring manner that by the time we came home, my cat acted like we had never even left the house. Thank you all so much!!!

Would highly recommend this animal hospital went in for end of life services for my beloved fur baby of 19 years they were extremely compassionate and caring. It was like being with family in a difficult time. Through the whole process they explained everything in detail and were very understanding and patient and considerate of our feelings.

We love Dr Mcginniss and his staff! We like that they are local and close to home. We like supporting small community businesses. I especially appreciate "Half off Tuesdays"! That deal/incentive is a HUGE help as we are paying out of pocket for the majority of the visit. We appreciate the professional attention and genuine care. Shiloh (our dog) wants me to mention his favorite part ;). The exam because they give him lots of yummy treats and lots of loving attention! ;)

Don't go here. Very high prices for visits and rechecks. They canceled my cats appointment which we were waiting for for weeks because we didn't want to pay the $80 recheck fee. My cat has an ear infection and needed drops. It's not like he had surgery that would warrant a recheck. I'm be no means a doctor but if i see his ear has no more drainage and looks normal I would say the drops did the job! They say it's all about the animal but that's obviously not true.

Dr. Unger and the veterinary technician gave our 13-year-old puggle a thorough examination for a sudden-onset cough. I was a bit panicky because of her age, but they put me at ease and gave me the information I needed to give her the best care. I always trust the team at AHLV to choose appropriate tests and recommend treatments while also considering quality of life and cost. It’s a relief knowing they are close by, especially as our oldest dog ages. Thanks!!

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWAREDo not bring your fur baby here, yes they are nice, well some of them, but their prices are way higher than other places and they charge an outrageous amount for a recheck. The place smells like wet dog and the rooms you wait in with your pet look like they're never cleaned, hair and fluids from previous animals all over the rooms.We live in a time now where you cant give your opinion or you are the bad guy, cause that's what I must have done to their office administrator, Grace, when I was expressing my opinion to her about how their recheck fees were a complete ripoff knowing my animal needed to come back for a recheck. She decided since I didn't like these fees then they were dropping me as a client. That was all done through text messages.I decided to go to the office to speak with her in-person since I needed to pick up my dogs heart failure meds anyways. We met in one of their dirty rooms and I asked her why she would cancel the appointment my sick kitten desperately needed, he had an ongoing ear infection which I had been initially charged over 400$ for and another 72$ 2x after for the recheck fees, she told me if I didn't like it to find another vet. I told her just because we had differing opinions didn't mean she had to cancel my sick babies appointment I would still pay because he really needed to be seen again, but no her pettiness led her to drop us as a client where she then handed me my animals records and told me to leave. I said fine, but I was not leaving without my dogs heart medication and she said no, and that's when I lost it and got very upset and loud in the office and refused to leave without them giving me my dogs meds, without those meds he would die. Right there shows they don't care about your animals, it's about money and dont you dare question their prices. They ended up calling the police on me which I gladly waited for the cops to come knowing what they were doing to me and my animals was wrong. The officers agreed with me and the one waited to make sure they gave me the meds.Save yourself and your fur babies the time, money and frustration and go somewhere else. Infact, the one officer told me of another vet office where my kitten was seen the next day and given proper treatment.

Animal hospital of lake villa always listens to my concerns whenever I call about my dogs. 2 of my dogs adore the vet, and my other is a little more timid but they always take great care of her and she loves it by the time the appointment is over. They really take the time to make my dogs feel comfortable before doing anything. The techs and vets are incredible!

Since Dr. McGinniss opened this practice 30 years ago I have faithfully brought all of my pets to see him. We have since moved to Texas but if anything major were to happen with any of my pets, I would be on my way back to see him. Five stars!

Most importantly my dogs are not afraid to be at this animal hospital; AND, everyone on the staff tries to make the best of an already stressful experience. They clearly love these animals and make me as a mom of 4 dogs, feel my dogs are precious to them. The veterinarians are very bright and try to give the all around best care they can to all animals AND still find the time and resources to give back.

Didnt tell us about the whole charge until the very end. Short staffed and unable to correctly perform regular visit. Blamed the cat instead of realizing that there are standard procedures to make cats comfortable. Never had this problems with previous vets.Perhaps a vet and not technician would have more professional and effective

Took me 4 different vets before I found Dr Unger and staff. Excellent service, friendly, patient, and clean. Staff knew I was nervous for mama's surgery, they text me updates all day long. So appreciate that! Thank you! During a regular visit they take their time with your pet, they get on the floor with your pet so the pet feels more comfortable. They come with a bag of cooked chicken and feed the pet throughout the examination. All around I have to say I will always take my animals to them!

Originally I was looking for a place to put my 16 year old Calico down. She was really sick and was fading fast. I called Animal Hospital of Lake Villa in tears and the guy who answered was so sweet. He listened to me as I sobbed that I didn't want to do this. Well on June 4, 2021 I took my sweet Patches in. They were in no rush I sat there with her as we held paws. I told her I loved her and that she was a wonderful cat. I had her since she was 15 weeks old. She was being mistreated by my husband's brother. Not physically but it is still abuse and neglect if you cannot feed your pet. Fast forward 16 years and she was my love. RIP Patches we miss you. Thank you everyone for making us feel secure!
