I would recommend this pet store to anyone in the area. It's a staple in the Illinois Valley pet supplies business community. Don't forget, Big corporations like Pet Smart don't share your struggles, they always have quantity above quality.

I’m a fish nut who has kept/worked with animals for decades, so my review is based mainly on the fish quality. My main criteria for judging fish/a pet shop are the presence of disease Ich (white spot), fin rot, and fungal infections. When I was last there this week, I saw none of any of these. Also, there were no dead fish in the tanks. I usually see all three diseases and dead fish in most other pet shops/stores. The owner is very knowledgeable, cares to help as much as possible, will do special orders upon request and nicely offers her expertise to those who will listen. I might add that the mammals and birds are kept very clean with no fowl smell of dirty cages when one enters. There are very few pet shops where I actually buy fish, but I sure do at Eddie’s.

They have been in business for 69 years. It was the original pet shop in the area. Many people got their first pet there. It might not be as good as it once was. But it's well worth a stop. They have birds, small animals, reptiles, salt and freshwater fish. If your looking for something a little different she can always order it for you. She has ordered me many a different fish.

Used to adore this petstore, won't go to it anymore. We drive 45+ minutes for the selection of mice they have, and in the past have been able to pick almost any mouse from any cage. This time we were only allowed to choose out of one of half a dozen or so cages. The reasoning being the mice were needed to replenish their stock. However, they weren't low on mice. The cages were teeming with them so much so that many looked sick and weak. I'm not kidding when I say every little 10 gal tank was holding at least 3-4 adult mice plus litters of babies and pregnant mice. I wasn't even allowed to buy a small mouse to feed my snake. I left with three I could've bought basically anywhere for probably triple the price. I don't usually leave reviews but considering I've waited months to be able to get to this store, only to be denied, I'm upset. You should NOT have animals or product right out in the open for customers to see if THEY'RE NOT FOR SALE.

Me and my wife has shopped at this place off and on for years. We just moved back from Florida and went to Eddie's for the first time after being back. We were shopping for live rock for my new salt water tank. The older lady was helping us. They were trying to charge different prices for the rocks if they had coralline on them. I mentioned to my wife about going to another location for the rock. When some other younger lady started getting rude with us and told us to go. No one was even talking to her. We will never shop there again.

I love this place. Yet I'm not the happiest with how it's run anymore. I cams here originally just to see what my local mom and pop shop looked like. And was disappointed most of the lights were off. Fishtanks baren. None of the reptiles had lights at the time and they all looked sickly. Flash foward to about 4 months ago. I went to check a price that she wanted for an external canister filter for my 20 gallon. 1. Way too expensive. Not even fluval charges that much for a 150 gallon filter. Yet... I found my dream fish. The pea puffer. I can't find them anywhere within 100mi of this area. I immediately bought 4. Reasonable price at 5$ per. Most chain stores want 10 plus. They are my favorite. They are the cutest fishes I've ever owned and I know where I'll be going for more peas.

It's was an interesting experience I guess. Nothing really happened by anymeans. I was looking for a new pet and when I arrived here, the place seemed dingy and dark in a off street location. Inside was equally dingy. Had a decent selection of reptiles and spiders, but the habitats didn't all seem so great and alot of the animals are kinda overpriced. Not all was bad tho, the lady was nice and the cats roaming the store are friendly. I feel tho my purchase was more of a rescue than anything. Interesting experience to say the least, but I probably won't return.

Best mom and pop pet shop. I go there for feeder mice for my snake and crickets for my geico. In the years I've been going I've added 3 additional fur babies. They're like bear hamster's. That we love very much! Thank you for your kindness and help when I come in there. I also love the cats they have living in the store. So cute, nice and loveable!!

Love Eddie's pet shop, they are very knowledgeable about the animals they are selling and willing to help. It may look a little divey on the inside but that's not what truly matters, it's the quality of the service provided. Just went there again today because one of our fish attacked another and tore it's fins off, so we were left with one dead and another not suitable for the species we had in our tank. We picked out 2 more fish to which the owner just let us have because we have to travel a small distance to get to his shop, saving us money in the process. This is the only pet shop my family and I go to, would recommend to others.

I have always gotten my cocktails from Eddie’s. One lived to age 17, one 22and my favorite lived to 26 ! Very Healthy Birds

They have cheap prices, the animals there are really nice and well taken care. I've adopted a snake from there and he is the nicest snake ever. They employees are very nice and very helpful. The food there, for the animals, are the best, healthy, and always live longer than Petsmarts food.

This shop needs to be shut down and the workers criminally charged. There is no food or water for the animals. The ferrets are going to die in the extreme heat of the shop. There is NOTHING in their cages. Please help these animals. I'm heartbroken!!!

Nice enough, know their fish and plenty of supplies and live animals. However kind of run down and serious cigarette smoke smell going on. My wife complained of the smell in the car after 5 minute in the store.Edit. 1 fish died in the bag and another a few days later looks like it has mouth fungus... pulled from tank and looking to treat my fish. None of my fish have ever had this. Not likely to go back.

We love going here every week to shop, look around and to visit. Owner Lori has become a friend to me and my husband plus pretty much anyone who walks through the doors. Great prices and Lori and John are very helpful. Still miss Eddie's smiling face.

No warranty Eddie's Junk Shop.I went there and bought an aquarium, took it home, and as I was pouring ways in the top it was running out onto my floor from a bad deal in the bottom. I called back and explained what had happened and that I bought it that day, I was told "we don't have a warranty for items we sell" and then "it's not our fault it leaks" I have been shopping here for years... will never return to eddies junk shop

Always helpful. Prices are a little higher then most in the area, but with that price comes better quality live goods; in particular saltwater live stock. Best place in the IL Valley region for saltwater fish.

Been many many years since I've been here. Eddie was still alive the last time I was there. It seems to Be pretty much the same from what I remember. Lots of choices with reptiles, fish and also birds and some small mammals..

These guys know their stuff! They are locally owned and operated, and in many instances supplied locally. They offer everything and if they don't have it they can help you get it, even if that means steering you away to another provider. They are slightly more expensive than other pet shops in the area, but they back their products, living and otherwise and you are seeing a knowledge base that the others just can't offer.

Best place to get exotic pets or pet supplies if you are tired of the chains. The staff is friendly and insightful on pets and pet care and can help with saltwater fish and all the fixings. If they dont have something they can order it

Great little gem of a shop. If you are anywhere on I 80 or I39, and need a good place to find awesome pets this is your place. Better selection than any of the big chain stores.

I knew Eddie, you folks have really let his place go down hill. Eddie would have never kept the place as dirty as I saw it. Eddie put his heart and soul into this place... it's a shame the rest of the family isn't running the place the way he did.

Trash pet store.Cant even tell the difference between genders on animals. Sold pets they didn't even sell there when they said they could hold onto them. Got one of my babies back and he's in the worse shape ever.NEVER WILL COME BACK
