I live about 30 min away, and not in the area often. This place is a mandatory visit for me during the holiday season, when I pick up several frozen entrees - including the pasta prosciutto and vegetable lasagna. Small place, but worth the drive. Extremely friendly staff as well.

This was my third Thanksgiving brick turkey. And although I consider myself a fairly accomplished cook having hosted dozens of Thanksgiving dinners, I am here to say that after my first Poeta’s brick turkey, my decision to never go back to my old ways was anchored in! BEST TURKEYS EVER! Exceptionally flavorful, quick roasting, moist beyond belief, and so easy. Thank you Poeta's! I’m so sorry I didn’t know about you sooner.

I have shopped there for over 25 years and have recently moved and miss their sausage. Was wondering if anybody has the recipe for the peppers red wine and sausage that they used to give out at the butcher counter?

My dad has always gone there since forever (Ray). Their Italian Sausage is by far the best I have ever had! I won't get it from anywhere else!

Absolutely unreal. I live in Michigan but every time I go through the Highwood area, I stop here to grab a pound of the spicy Italian sausage, a pound of the spicy capocolla, and some pasta from Italy for my mother. This place has the most authentic Italian food I’ve ever had, will always come here and support the Poeta’s.

Great selection of meats and frozen specialties. My go-to place to fill the void of hand-crafted pastas my Nonna left when she passed.

A cute family owned Italian store in Highwood! Omg!!!!! This place is amazing! Great deli with the best brands of Italian lunch meats, home made sausage and bread that is to die for! They also have a freezer section that has home made Italian dinners, lasagna trays, and sauces (they even have vegetarian options!) ready to pop in the oven. The ones I've tried have all been delicious! The staff carries your groceries out to your car for you. Prices are very reasonable! It's definitely a hidden gem!

Poeta’s has the best meat department and grocery. The deli is awesome. My favorite is the Italian potato salad. In the meat section the sausages and especially the brick chicken are delicioso!! Also the pottery they sell is gorgeous! Listen, the whole place is awesome. People are very friendly and helpful. You cannot go wrong with Poeta’s.

The nice young lady at the register gave me one of her own personal bread loaves because they were out of them today. And it was phenomenal!

With predominantly Italian items and a few regular, common necessities, a small cooler of vegetables and a small yet brilliantly stocked and highly skilled butcher department, Poeta's is truly a fine, neighborhood grocery with old-world sentiments.I always leave with the finest Italian meats you can find in a 50 mile radius, as well as other items which just aren't the same at the regular big box groceries.Customer service here is second to none.

I have been a customer of Poeta's for many years. They have never failed to provide the best in meats, sausage and their frozen items are off the chart good. I really like the meatballs in their red sauce. The owners are wonderful people and still work behind the meat counter. The italian beef is the best on the north shore. Try it and it will put a smile on your face.

Not a low price kind of place, if you are looking for the highest quality authentic Italian products then this is the place to go. Expect to pay top dollar but you will get the most authentic and tastiest Italian meats and all other types of food. Highly recommended especially for your holiday table

I have been driving the 20 minutes here for decades. All fresh, high quality meats. Pre-mades, such as sauces, meatballs, among the best around. Bread is ALWAYS fresh and the bread at the deli counter is unique and delicious. No loaf has ever made it home without me breaking some off and eating it in the car. But the real treat is the homemade Italian sausage. I have been to Italian delis from coast to coast, border to border and have tried everyone's Italian sausage, but none come even close to Porta's.

Amazing ground beef, italian sausage, italian beef, pastina, scamorza cheese, fresh tomatoes, grapes... it's become my one stop shop for the week. I love everything at Poeta's! Oh, their homemade barbecue sauce is my favorite. There is always such friendly service, too!!

Fantastic Family owned and run Italian Grocery store. Meat counter offers amazing and fresh varieties. They also carry most household pantry staple items. One of our favorite is the Whole Brick oven Chickem. They offer it with 2 different marinades and they debone and butterfly the whole chicken. Simple delicious and cooked up in the oven in 45 min. I highly recommend Poetas. Very friendly family.

The meatballs and sausage were good, we boughtwhat we thought were 4 spicy sausages and 4 regular, they were all the same - non were spicy. The veal stew was a disappointment. Mostly potatoes and carrots with a dozen pieces of vealcut into 1 inch cubes. Package said it served 4 - it does if you want to serve potatoes and carrots as there was barely enough veal for 2! I would try the sausage again - maybe the meatballs.

The frozen premade gnocchi with the vodka sauce 🤤👌👍 👏. You want to make fine-dining style gnocchi in the same time it would take you to make boxed mac and cheese. I'm a dad that works nights so when I'm awake hours approaching the limits of my sanity, I sometimes get distracted and cut it close with dinner time schedules, and this is a great one that brings me back to authentic classic gnocchi, the way I remembered it... and it's actually real gnocchi!!!

This is the sort of neighborhood store you just don't see very often anymore. It's been a stalwart presence in Highwood for decades. The real gem is the full service butchers' counter. I can recommend the brick chicken for grilling, the fresh italian breads, and the specialty pastas (both dried pastas and frozen fresh pasta) any time. I will say that there are times when the shelves seem awfully bare, so if you don't see what you're looking for be sure to ask.

This jewel of a store is a hidden treasure. We were in the neighborhood and needed to find brine for our Thanksgiving turkey and my husband did a search on his smart phone and found Poeta's. It offers friendly service and a variety of options. Will be back in 2012 to get our turkey there. Thanks for the outstanding service you offer.

There aren’t many options here, but the minimal options are healthy I suppose. I would only recommend this place for a quick grocery item or lots of Italian shopping. The milk and day-to-day grocery items are super expensive. Nothing special about this place, other than it has some nice Italian food, which not many other places around here have.

Italian grocery store. Nice selection. Butcher shop in store. And many made in store frozen or chilled meals to bring home. Fun place to visit when you want to have a nice meal.
