Employees and fosters seemed wonderful. Director/lady in charge was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Waited around for over an hour while she acted like she didn't want to be there. Finally sat down with her and she asked the same questions repeatedly and seemed confused by her own application and questioning process. Got approved, paid the deposit, and asked if we could come back to get the pet so we could go buy stuff for it. She explained they wanted to be out by a quarter to 4 and said it was fine that we come back before they leave. We showed up at 3pm and were rudely told that we were late and the adoption would be considered forfeited and they would be keeping our $55 deposit. Woman backtracked and said the cat could still go with us, then lectured us for a few more minutes and changed her mind again and said we would not be getting her because she did not have time to take the rest of our payment. We had already filled out all paperwork and paid half at this point. We had 3 people with us and we all heard to be back by a quarter to 4. After explaining this and asking if we could still adopt she raised her voice and said she knew what she said and that we were too incompetent to adopt (even though we have several pets and had already done a vet/reference check). At this point instead of attempting to make other arrangements she just offered a refund, which we accepted. We tried to leave and she started up again and then backtracked on the refund. At this point we could have already left with the cat. A simple miscommunication was escalated so much and now that pet is without a good home and missed an opportunity to be adopted today.Very disappointed that this kitten missed out on being adopted and has to spend more time in a shelter.

The staff is very kind and patient, I don't know how to get permission for an emotional assistance pet, she was very patient in helping me and telling me what to do, my English is poor but she was always patient with understanding me and answering my questions. The cats are well looked after. The room was clean.

One of the best places to volunteer if you're looking for a place to volunteer. The staff here takes awesome care of the animals. They work you hard like you're supposed to and they make sure it's clean. By far the cleanest and safest animal shelter I've ever been to. Volunteered here for a few months and really got an appreciation for how well it was run.

This organization is wonderful! Clean facility and the volunteers truly care about the animals -you can tell. They do great work! The adoption process was simple but involved so that they knew my new dog was going to a good home.

The staff at Bond County Humane Society are a very caring and compassionate group of people. The facility was immaculate, and all of the animals are given the utmost care. I was very impressed.

Was approved by our application (as well as the first to put an application in on this dog), but the dog we wanted was given to someone else, who had all the same qualities as us (someone home, 24/7, verified vet check, qualified in dog training (my husband is a trained K-9 handler)...etc). The only difference in our applications was that we have children and the others do not (although they dog was listed as great with kids). We put in our application Saturday at Petco in Fairview, was told we were the first to do so for him, that they needed to verify our information though. Tuesday, I call and I am told by one of the volunteers to just come to the shelter (a 45 minute drive). I get there to be told they were reviewing other applicants and it would be 2-3 hours before we would know.Well, I knew we passed the application by that point, so we hung around town, waiting for the phone call to come get the dog. Instead I get "we found a better home then yours".Upon further questioning, it comes out that we have kids and they don't....Then we are told by the head of the shelter that there are plenty of other dogs and to get over it.My hearts broken***Edited to add***After posting on some local sights about what happened to us, we found out that quite a few people in our area have been approved on application, then denied an animal. The one thing we all have in common... We are all military families! Why come so close to base, if you don't trust us as pet owners?

I have adopted 3 cats and 1 dog from bond county. The adoption process is something that I never experienced with any other organization! Other organisations do not seem as concerned as to where the animal is going and they don't take care of their dogs like bond county. They keep their animals from barking (all well behaved) , give them a comfortable blanket, and write out detailed, HONEST descriptions of the animals. They don't lie and say a cat is good with dogs just to get rid of them like other places I've been to. The dogs have clean water and I see them being walked every time I come in on adoption days at Petco in Fairview heights. Rachel from bond county ensures that the animal is going to a caring, loving, and safe home, which is very important to me. 5 stars!

These people are passionate about what they do. Truly professional. You can trust that these animals are given the proper care they deserve before finding a loving home. They do an excellent job at making sure the animals find a responsible owner.

Our family has adopted two of our furbabies from BCHS. They truly care about the well being of the animals and are helpful even after adoption, if you have questions or concerns.

It is very simple, I went there to see if they could assist me in general, spaying and rabies vaccination. I found them to be honest and caring about my dog as if she was their pet.❤
