Great place for German food! Went there during lunch for our anniversary. Has a nice European charm with a cozy homely atmosphere.Waiter informed us they’re in the process of combining the menus, so we got a mix: frog legs, lunch combo (BLT & goulash soup of the day), schnitzel, and complimentary bread. You can tell they put work into keeping things local and comfortingly homemade- The bread was dense and crumby but great for dipping the soup, the frog legs needed a teeny bit of salt but flavorful, the BLT was fresh and crunchy and with local sourced bacon, and the schnitzel was comforting with good flavour. The desserts were also all homemade and looked so good!Lastly, was also very reasonably (maybe criminally?) priced! Definitely recommended as a great lunch and dinner spot and for some homemade German food. Will be back :)Dietary restrictions: Have fillable slips at front for allergies, and marks for GF and veg options on menusParking: Good amount of street parking

Service to getting the correct drinks was slow. Food was mixed up. Food wasn’t that hot. Also food was bad. The only good thing was the red cabbage. The sausages were burnt and extremely dry and flavorless. Pork cutlets flavorless. Bread was dry. Chicken cutlets also dry and flavorless. Our friends that we went with had the same complaints. The smorgasbord I ordered was $40, and it was absolute garbage (except the red cabbage). One of my friends ordered the same meal tonight and he couldn’t eat it. It was that bad. This is the second time I’ve been and it was worse than the first visit. If they used quality food and actually had good cooks, this would be a great place. I should’ve told my fiancé to not pay for either one of smargasbord plates. This place is a rip-off. Serving expensive dishes that are absolute garbage in quality. I won’t go back.

If you are fan of German food you will want to go. The preparation is excellent and instead of being "fried and bland" they do a good job of using a savory spice combination that makes it a delight. The menu isn't as large as some places but it is enough.Beer on tap served in 1/2 and 1 liter mugs.Spendthrift about $80 for 2 including tip.Parking is on street.

The new turnover of the previous German restaurant is really a gem. The food is at its good quality and dessert is great. Reservation is required for now. I’m glad that people from Champaign can finally enjoy some German food around the area.

We went here when they opened and were disappointed. It must have been difficult to follow in the footsteps of the Bayern Stube. However, a buddy convinced me to come back for lunch on Thursday and it was OUTSTANDING. Best Schnitzel Dietrich I’ve had. The in house salad dressings are incredible. I’m definitely going back now. The kinks have been worked out.

Made a reservation for New Years Eve and really enjoyed our evening. Had a singer in the bar, have added some basic salads and simplified the menu compared to the previous Bayern Stube. You pick from 6-8 entrees and all come with any two sides… still some of the German favorites but added a few staples too and a vegetable of the day which was garlic buttered broccoli tonight. We LOVE the Hungarian goulash and lucky for us it was the soup of the day. They had another of our favorites, apple streusel, on the dessert tray…. served warm, not too sweet and bursting with cinnamon. We’ll be back!

When we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation, we did not but we did try to call ahead & it went to an answering machine. There was only one table filled between the bar & dining room tables yet the lady still had to check the laptop like there was going to be a rush or something before seating us. When we ordered the waitress seemed flustered & unorganized. The bread we received for the table was extremely dense & hard to chew, butter had herbs in it but was bland. The menu is very limited. We received our food & it all looked pretty good BUT was rather flavorless. We were all so excited to try this restaurant as we loved the previous one but walked away rather disappointed & probably wouldn't recommend it or go back.

I had rahmsnitzel, spatzle, and red cabbage. I was surprised how tough the rahmsnitzel was. I mentioned it to the waitress and she commented about it being tendorized, but I think it was over cooked. The was definitely no signs of pink in the center. I would have hoped with such fresh product it could have been less cooked. Cooked for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side in a hot skillet. Also, any Snitzel I have ever had has been coated and lightly fried, not coating what so ever. It was too bad the mushroom gravy had no signs if mushroom in it to enhance the dish. The large chucks of bacon were done well and went well in this dish. The spatzle were fried, that was different. It was a little crunchy and good, just not what I had expected. The red cabbage was a little different then typical red cabbage, it had a heavy flavor and no signs if the sweetness typical with red cabbage. I was good just not what I had expected. The waitress also let me sample a couple of the German beers to find the one I liked the best. That was very nice.

The restaurant is very well done with theme and welcome. The server, Lauren was fantastic and provided extraordinary service. (she was the bartender and server) She knew the menu and was able to answer ALL our questions. The meal portions were more than adequate. As a group of 9, we tried many different menu items. Some of the items we tasted were, SCHWEINEBRATEN, CHICKEN HUNTER, SAUSAGE SAMPLER PLATTER, RAHMSCHNITZEL, additional sides of Sauerkraut and Potato Pancakes were ordered. Also, some shared the black forest cake that was flavorful. The clear favorites were the bread service, Sauerkraut, Sausage Sampler, and Potato pancakes. The other dishes seemed to lack flavor. We did provide feedback to the restaurant and they relayed kitchen chef issues and graciously asked us to try them again.

We made the trek over to try Horsch Radish and we weren’t disappointed! The homemade bread with garlic/herb butter was delightful and the sausage spread is amazing. The warm German potato salad is so delicious, and their fresh green beans are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The service was top-notch! We can’t wait to come back again - this time we’ll save room for desert. Thank you for a wonderful meal

Had an excellent experience here for a belated Birthday supper. Overall food was good-the pretzel missed the mark (which accounts for the knock in stars) but otherwise all 8 of us (including 3 children) enjoyed our entrees and sides. Staff was excellent, friendly and attentive! Our children loved this place and the owners were welcoming to them! Drove an hour to reach this out of the way spot and we would make the trip again!

My family and I were really disappointed by our dining experience at this restaurant. I know they have just opened so I hope things will improve. All our meals were over cooked and dry. The red cabbage and sauerkraut were good, however. We all had various desserts and they were dry and in some cases, strange tasting. Our waitress was very nice but she seemed overwhelmed. We did not get some of our drinks until the meal was almost over. I would have given my experience a “1” except for the fact I know they just opened. Hopefully the food will improve over time.

I went in October. Food tasted great for the most part. Service was good minus a single drink mix-up. Really the only issue was our table bread, which was stale and rock-hard. It wasn't even a fluke loaf since we asked for another basket and it was the exact same. I haven't been back yet so I don't know if that is the standard or just a bad batch that day. Regardless, I would go again.

Third time here, Food still very good but service was a little hit and miss. Ordered appetizers of soup and pretzel but was told pretzel unavailable because of a party booking. Also no asparagus available. (Really feel customers should know this stuff up front) Appetizers didn't show up and we ended up getting them during the main course. (In fairness they did gave us one free because of this) After meal we ordered 2 bailey's creams and two coffees. Coffees showed up but no Baileys. We asked again for 2 bailey's creams, This time a jug of cream showed up. We then realized that our server didn't know what a bailey's cream was, We explained and she returned with the Baily's in a jug 🙂 Again we were not charged for the error. We find the lighting a little too bright because it destroys the cozy feel. Will eat here again but won't use it for special occasions. Other restaurants do a much better job for special occasions.

Love Gibson City's own authentic German restaurant! They've started true to their previous owners designs as far as I saw. While the menu was smaller everything we had was excellent. Server was great and had cool hair but never told us her name. 5 stars anyway. We'll be back! Keep up the great work!Dietary restrictions: Gluten free items are marked as so.
