We found a beautiful and EXTREMELY loving orange tabby at bridle creek apts. Took him to the society to be checked. I wasn't thrilled with the lady who took him to be checked for a chip. Her attitude was very rude and I could tell she was clearly sick. She also carried him away by the neck which isn't how you handle any feline. So, I'm not saying the entire staff are bad and I understand being overwhelmed or frustrated. But if that's gonna impact how you handle animals or act around folk, you shouldn't be in this line of work. And that woman needs to be fired or get her act together. This cat is someone's lost pet so if you have any info call this facility

I’m a student at Knox College and was very interested in adopting a dog. When we arrived the workers were rude and literally greeted us with “What do ya want?”. They barely opened the door and I essentially had to FORCE myself inside. I explained I was a college student and when we asked to see a dog we were denied and told to look at cats instead. The condition of the cat room is very dirty and looks miserable for the cats.They then explained they do not adopt dogs to ANY college students because of previous bad experiences. I even came with a contract from my college which I signed stating that the dog would not be neglected or uncared for. I gave all of that to the “board”, the “board” consists of the two people who work there. I was obviously denied.All an all, if you’re a college student DONT GO THERE, you will be turned away at the door. They will discriminate against you based on where you live and your age. The people there are rude and so very unfriendly. It’s very unprofessional and not a welcoming place to be.

You can tell how much the staff love animals and want the best for them. They've made so many awesome changes to the facility to support the canines and felines they save (open access indoor/outdoor space, kiddie pools of litter, treats, etc). For a couple months now my Son has been checking post of a beautiful girl Husky named Skye. He kept saying I'm going to call, but he didn't. We last Friday Dec 3 he did. He took his Boy to a meet and greet with Skye, (also a Husky). They were great. Per rules Skye would have to meet all animals. This being around 3.30, they close at 5.00. My Son rushed home grabbed me and my Husky girl. Skye was brought back out and all 3 kids did great a mini pack in the making.. the woman who was at the desk came out and ask if it was okay. She was just so happy that Skye was going to a forever home. 💙 One week later she is getting along with the family and her fur-family.. thank youSkye is to the left, right , right

I highly recommend this place if you like rude workers, a rude business owner, and a shelter that does NOT allow college students to adopt. I also recommend this place if you like to be discriminated against based on age, where you live, and anything else they immediately don’t like about you. I suggest adopting from here for the sole purpose of rescuing the animals from a very questionable environment. Again, I strongly recommend this place.

My husband and I adopted our dog Lucy two weeks ago. The staff was great telling me about her history and any challenges she had. She has improved so much already. She had been mistreated at her previous home and associated everything with pain. Now she knows she is safe and loved in her forever home.The staff at the KCHS have a hard job and they are wonderful and caring people

I had lost my little furry baby about a month and a half ago it was very devastating! My daughter and I were driving close by the Humane Society had not even thought about looking for another dog yet but something told me to go ahead and go look so by chance we did for another small dog. When we went inside Luanne met us she was so kind, patient, understanding, tell she cared about the animals very much and Ruth also helped us and you can tell she very much loves the animals! I came across Scrappy they showed him to me and it was instant love at first sight! He hadn’t been neutered yet but they let me take him home right then and there anyway and he and I fell in love and are a perfect fit for each other and we are so very happy together now it’s unbelievable!❤️🐶❤️Thank you so much everyone at the Humane Society that helped make this possible for Scrappy,now named Mikey and I!

They care about the animals that wind up there. I have watched them improve tremendously. However they should be required to take an injured animal to a Vet for medical care. I have rescued several animals with injuries from there. Permanent damages for lack of a simple Vet visit. The grey fat kitty and the yellow tabby one is paralyzed and the other is hips healed straight down. He has limited mobility due to not being immediately taken to the Vet.

Called asking about the adoption process and some lady rudely cut me off asked where I live and told me because where I live they refused to adopt to me cause stuff that has happened with other people. What's that got to do with me I have letters from a Dr. Saying I need an support dog but was immediately judge due to where I live. I wouldn't do any business with these ppl ever now I have a big apartment. Also just because I live in a certain building dose not mean I have a small apartment how can someone jump to conclusions in a split second she asked me where I lived before even asking my name. Hope u all burn in hell.

Got my fur baby from here. He's such a love. The staff was most helpful and very good at their information on my big boy. They didn't hesitate to let me know that he is a handful. He has been, but he has a yard to run in and is learning about manners. He still has a few issues, but we're working on them. If I could I'd adopt another, but I can't. I will continue to support the shelter as best I can. Thank you for all the work you do and the love you have for the future forever pet's in your care.

Looked at cats all had eye goop but didnt see anyone to ask why :( will go nack again tho i have seen cat just have eye problems from dust so will try going back again :) all dog look great and they have so very good looking ones in there poor babies hope they all find forever homes ❤️

To be honest, most of the animals aren't in the best condition. Mostly the cats. Every time I go there, and I'm speaking 7 somthin years, there are usually multiple cats with problems. Runny noses, eye infections, and another things like that. Some of the cats also arent too friendly toward each other but all are in a single indoor/outdoor room enclosure.The people there arent the nicest either. I've been familiar with the place for years, helping with activities and events in years past. And I did not like the employees. A couple were cool, but it seems that most are grumpy and rude and just want you out of the way.

I love them. The staff was lovely to me. I adopted 2 kitties with slight special needs. They are both doing wonderful with my other fur babies. I enjoy going there (when I am in Galesburg) and cuddling the kitties. I also try to remember to bring my nickle cans for them to turn in for funds. Thank you to the staff.

A cat came up to me while I was at work, very friendly and had a collar on. I soon realized she was in labor, so I thought the right thing to do was to take her home for the night so she could have her babies peacefully. My plan was to take her to the knox county humane society the next morning. Well, when I came with the cats the next day, the staff was very rude to me. They accused me of lying to them about this not being my cat, and also asked me multiple times if i wanted the babies to die. "If they come here they will die, do you want that?" Every time I tried to explain the situation, I would get talked over and a finger in my face. They were so mean that I left with the cats the first time because I was so flustered. I ended up coming back though because I knew someone was missing their cat! Once again I was accused of lying about the cat, lying about where I live, and told that I wanted these babies to die. I had no choice but to leave the cats there. I hope that they don't treat the animals as bad as they treat the people.

Once again this Sunday there was a kitten dumped in front of our rural property. Knox county animal control would not take the kitten. That's fine so we were asked to take the kitten to the Knox county humane shelter. It was made very clear they wanted a donation to take the kitten. We made a donation to help. While there a lady pulls up and receives a free bag of cat food and dog food.Totally a messed up way of doing things.

This place is terrible. I’ve visited the cats a few times over the past year and the cats are always very sick with eye infections, upper respiratory infections, and open wounds. Almost all of them are extremely underweight. The older staff are incredibly rude and nasty! I ended up adopting a senior cat to get him out of that situation, he weighed only 4.5 pounds. I was able to find an image of him immediately after being surrendered 8 months prior on the humane society’s Instagram, and he appeared to be a healthy weight. I don’t know how this place is still open.

I am currently in the process of adopting our fur baby Luna. They let us take her home and is allowing us to make payments when we can, and I brought her in there a few weeks ago to get her nails clipped. I had some concerns about her back legs, and the fleas, even tho the Vet there was extremely busy they took time to check her over and even gave her a bath with no charge! They truly care about their animals, all of the volunteers are very friendly.

I have adopted several animals from them and they have always been amazing to us. I just adopted 2 bonded dogs. The staff was amazing to me even before they knew I was looking to adopt. My furbabies are all doing well and thriving. i wanted to thank them for all the incredible work they do.

We called about getting a dog into their shelter because she is having issues at home with the other dog we have. The lady who is supposedly the manager there told me they couldn’t take some animal someone gets sick of with a horrible attitude and kept on her attitude the whole time she is on the phone. When we go to there because we have no other option then you try to guilt trip us and cop an attitude, you shouldn’t have the position that you do. Horrible experience and will never go there again.

One of my cats got out and I contacted theHumane society multiple times to see if she was there and was told no. Today I saw on their Facebook page that she was in fact there and was adopted today. She was chipped and registered with the city there is absolutely no reason I shouldn’t have got her back. They are sleezy people just looking for an extra buck clearly

Adopted a cat and it wasn't fixed plus it's not a Male. Had babies and reached out for help and Didn't get any. The Knox county shelter turned us away with a lame story. All 6 new borns died during Christmas. We have tried to contact them but to no avail of one is responding. The mother cat is crying 😢.

It's okay but the cat room could use some cleaning. Adopted a cat here a while ago but I realized it has a cold when it came home. I called and they said it was probably allergies and then found out that it was a cold when I did take it back for the vet to look at. Got home and went to the vet after going on break for school and found out that my cat was a lot sicker than what the vet said at KCHS. Found out he had feline herpes, a case of fleas and an ear infection, all facts that were not given to us upon adoption. We took him to a proper vet and he was given the right meds and felt a lot better. The service is okay but the staff doesn't seem to engage much with customers unless if you're actually adopting and they don't do a good job keeping the sick cats away from the other ones so the sickness just cycles through.
