We had just bought a Sun Conure, only 2 months old and he suddenly got sick we was almost gone he wasn’t moving and his eyes were almost close. We knew something was wrong we got so scared called my regular veterinarian and he suggested me to bring him here to this location. I called they took us on emergency As soon as I got there they brought my Bird to the back they were waiting for us, right away they got him some oxygen and thank god he is now okay and happy. Making the loudest noises at home. I’m so glad they got to treat him right away and was sent home with medication. I will give a five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for theire fast services, they were so friendly to Sunny

I'll never take my Guinea pigs anywhere but Midwest Bird and Exotics for medical care. The vets and nurses were all very kind and helpful during a scary time for myself and my pet. They provided both great care of my piggy but also did a great job educating me on what to do for treatment. We live an hour away and it's well worth the drive for us. They even gave my little lady some snacks for the road!

This is the best exotic vets office i’ve ever taken my reptiles to. I had an emergency come up with my male leopard gecko earlier in the year. I had gone into his enclosure at around 10pm and immediately noticed a hemipenes prolapse starting. I searched around and decided to call midwest exotic to see if they’d be able to see him that night and they told me to come in right away. They warned me that there may be a 1-2 hour wait for emergencies, but once i got there he was able to be seen immediately. They got the prolapse repaired and stitched up very quickly and sent me on my way with medications. The follow up appointment went great and he healed without any issues. He is doing wonderfully now and has not had any other medical problems. This is the only exotic hospital i’ve been to that has not given me unsolicited, horribly outdated care advice regarding reptiles such as using red lights, carpet, tiny enclosures, no uvb etc.. The price was a bit steep, but that’s to be expected at an exotic hospital, especially for emergency care. I would absolutely bring my animals back here.

Took my bunny for stasis and to rule out an obstruction. She got blood work done, X-ray, UA, fluids, gut motility med and pain medication, then I was sent home with critical care, pain meds and veggies/hay for the hour ride back home. Worth the trip! She was already feeling more like herself when she came home. Started to eat hay, veggies, and then a few hours later, she finally passed some poops! Very happy with them and this was the first time me and my husband visited them. Thank you!

The front desk was friendly, smart and ready to help me when I showed up to my appointment. The doctor jumped into action immediately to resolve the tooth that was painfully hurting my rabbit. The doctor took the best care of my rabbit.Loved the whole team!

So glad I found this place for my parrot! They are very professional and caring. Knowledgeable avian doctors on staff. I was very scared for Kramer, they knew exactly what to do. Can’t thank them enough!

Had to go here with an emergency with our conure. Staff on the phone and in the office were very nice. The Vet gave our bird a complete check up and addressed the issue. She was very nice and had real concern about our bird. The prices are a little steep at $180 to walk in the door, but it was a Sunday night at 9pm and the care, service and attitude of everyone that we spoke to was top notch. I would highly recommend this vet office.

I've never gotten better care for my pets than from Midwest Bird & Exotic. I've been taking my guinea pigs here since 2018. One of my pigs went under two surgeries at this vet and it was nothing but a smooth process. They even took him in as an emergency before their emergency hours started when I needed to put him down. These people do care about their patients and are always informative and make sure our babies get the best care!

Absolutely hands down the best exotic care in the Chicago area. It is worth the hour the drive. It is a shame that exotic care is so expensive, but my guinea pigs are lucky I love them more than money. Attached is the photo of the beloved guinea pig whom they saw as an emergency visit for GI stasis. Thanks to them she is alive and well (and still fat).

I scheduled an appointment and called back to reschedule was told my appointment was rescheduled and was all set. Turns out the next day I get an appointment confirmation and my appointment was still set for the time I originally set. Then when I was running 10 min late, I had called to let them know and they tell my appointment was at 1 pm. When my confirmation text said 1:10. I get there receptionist were very rude and wanted to charge me a $82 late fee. No customer service skills. Also to try and charge me a late fee when I was told 3 different appointment times. Thank you to the doctor that I talked with though. He was understanding and was able to make this a better visit.

This place calls itself an animal hospital? My dog consumed poison and I rushed her to this 'hospital' as it was only two blocks from my home. They refused to see me - refused to treat my dog and made me drive 40 minutes to another place. This is precious time in an emergency situation where a dog is digesting and absorbing the poison. They could not care less. If that is the level of care and concern they have for sick animals than in my opinion this is not a place I would take my pet for standard care or emergency care.

We changed to Midwest about two years ago for our library's red-eared slider, when we couldn't get in at our previous vet and have been coming here ever since. Our other vet was good, but the people here really offer above-and-beyond service. The vets we've worked with and talked to have been so caring and full of information. It makes us feel comforted knowing that they're very used to working with exotic pets (like reptiles) when other places may not quite have the same depth of knowledge. We've felt in good hands with them, and our turtle has been thriving!

Taken great care of my pet mice! My one mouse Bubbles had some hair loss and scratching issues recently, which they said were mites and she’s getting better everyday! Bubbles and her sisters thank you!

First, I have a Starling and most avian vets I called would not see him. He has been to Midwest Bird twice. Once with a broken leg when he was only a few weeks old. Not only did they do wonderfully with him, the vet he saw explained everything that was happening to me in an easily understood way. I asked a lot of questions, and my questions were answered clearly in non-vet-speak.The X-rays were sent to me before I even left the clinic, and I got a call several days later to see how he was doing. He was seen this week for a knuckle injury. He left with two medications. I did not know how to give oral medicine and a tech showed me how to administer it, and I have done so several times now without any difficulty. After we were done, Ray Charles was in good spirits and rather than being nervous afterward he was happy to visit with other pet parents that were curious to meet a Starling. He was that comfortable with being there and was not at all stressed by the visit.

Dr Yates is an excellent doctor. She took care of my guineas. My old one is ten and he had dental work and she did a phenomenal job on him. Highly recommended. Staff friendly and efficient. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Lucy at the front desk was very rude and uninformed on teeth trimming procedures that were offered by the clinic. Instead of trying to be helpful and finding out or admitting that she just didn't know, she instead continued to repeat that she couldn't diagnose my rabbit over the phone, which was irrelevant to me asking what procedures the clinic offered in general regarding teeth. The rest of my experience was pretty similar as I arrived. They take your pet away and put them in a cage in the back, whereas most hospitals examine them in the room with you. This puts excess stress on the Rabbit and on you, unnecessarily. The vet tech came in to talk about my rabbit a hour later, and spoke so quickly and made assumptions that you knew that what she says she was going to do after she left the room, she didn't actually do unless it was something you paid for in advance. Another fun part of the experience, they overcharge outrageously and do nothing. I left paying $400 and turns out all they did was give my rabbit some fluids and pain meds, no critical care like I was clearly told and then late told I misheard and that "it's not safe to give critical care yet" after informing them my rabbit hasn't eaten in over 24hrs. Regardless of what any actual informed vet would advise. Your rabbit can die is it doesn't eat for that long. Come here if you're desperate and have nowhere else to go and want to pay a lot of money for a lot of no care. That's the honest truth.4hrs round-trip in the night and my bunny still has nothing in her little belly and has another 2hrs to drive home. So petty they refused to feed her even one syringe unless I paid $40 for the entire bag to take home. I basically spent 4hrs drive time (7hrs in total spent) and $400 to sit her on a heating pad which I told them on the phone she was already sitting on and to pick up meds I could get over the counter for more than half the price less. And not one compassionate employee. Just wow.

Very much worth the 3+ hour drive it took us to get here. This was the only “nearby” vet out of a dozen that was able and willing to handle a semi-emergency we had with our parrot, who had suddenly developed a respiratory infection. They were very professional and reassuring on the phone as we drove to the hospital, and when we finally checked in just before 10pm, they promised a 1-2 hour wait, which ended up being closer to just 1 hour. Our bird was in great hands with Dr. Lopez. If they were closer to us I’d choose them as our regular vet.

Took my rat here when she needed a minor tail amputation. It went great and I'm so grateful for this office.Took her to a different emergency vet when the accident happened and that vet did not have experience doing the surgery she needed. The next morning I called almost every exotic vet in the state. No one had same day availability for both the exam and the surgery. Some places said 3 weeks out, some said we don't do that . I couldn't bear to make my rat spend another night hurt, let alone any longer than that.Midwest was able to schedule us for an exam the same day and completed the surgery within 2 hours of her being there. They were so nice as to squeeze us in between other appointments because the needed surgery was minor and quick. They were super understanding of our urgency and took very good care of our baby girl.Exam, surgery, anesthesia, and meds all came out around $300. Great price, much lower than I was expecting. Recheck ($45) in a week and suture removal (no charge) a week after that.A note for rat owners: I hate seeing my girls after full anesthesia, it has always been hard for them to recover. At this vet, they only had her under for a couple of minutes and she was acting normal by the time I picked her up (30 min after surgery).

They were upfront about the health of my pets and that’s awesome I love the pictures of exotic animals allOver the hospital, but the doctor lied to me 4 times and they refused to give me my Animals at one point. DONT take your pets here. Unfortunately I will honestly say they are unprofessional. I’ve been calling for the manager for 3 weeks the day staff is disrespectful and not worth dealing with and the doctor is clearly money hungry she trying to charge me $2000 for healthy ferrets. If you want to take your animal to a circus this is the place I doNt trust them and I don’t care how they feel about what I say in this review just like they don’t care how I was treated SO NOT WORTH IT

10/10 absolutely thankful to them. I had to rush my chinchilla to the vet. Out of 3 E.R. vets they were the only ones who picked up their phone. Even though it took and hour and a half drive they were ready the moment I walked in the door. They were fast and efficient. They took no chances and covered every possible outcome. They sent me home with every possible medications and pain relievers for my fur ball to make sure she was on a speedy recovery and was in no pain. It’s only been a few days and she’s already almost back to normal. The entire staff that night was friendly. I would take any of my animals there again with no hesitation.

Our guinea pig Michael was breathing with a wet noise so we took him to the vet asap; the staff took good care of him and after one day’s treatment he’s breathing normally again. Thanks Midwest!

I usually go here because it is the closest exotic pet hospital for my guniea pigs. However, I went in for a check up for my two piggies and they rushed me like they had something better to do. All the lady did was pick them up and check their body and that was it. I paid $250 for that. Kind of disappointed. The front desk lady was also rude and unprofessional. Hopefully it was just one bad day.

I have pet tree frogs and it has been an exhausting venture to find a veterinarian that will take them. Midwest Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital went above and beyond in providing care for my one of my sick frogs recently. Not only were the front desk and vets extremely friendly but addressed all concerns and created a comprehensive treatment plan including trainings for what to do once we got home. We have now made this our new primary vet, not just for the emergency we recently had! Highly recommend!

Fantastic vet. I bring my bearded dragon for his yearly check up and it's good to know the vet actually cares and asks deeper questions to ensure everything is going smoothly at home. She answers all questions and concerns we have. Price is reasonable and they're always on time for appointments. Highly recommend.

I was able to bring my African grey in yesterday after he took a fall. After calling a few different places who could not help, I finally got in touch with Midwest. The lady who answered my call was so sweet and helpful. When I arrived the front desk staff was also super kind and welcoming. The Doctor eased my worry and took great care of my bird. After xrays and blood draw to send blood to the lab, I was able to bring my boy home. I cannot thank you all enough for your dedication and hard work. True angels!

They were really helpful getting me an app asap because one morning my canary woke up with the metal band on her foot stuck and her foot got swollen. Fortunately, they were able to sedate her and take the metal band off in less than an hour. My canary is doing so much better now. I’m so thankful for this place, even though it’s a bit of a drive, because a lot of vets don’t see birds.

My rabbits got into a fight one night and Midwest Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital happened to be the only vet open for emergencies near us so late in the day. We rushed over and got our two buns checked in. It took an hour or two before the rabbits were deemed okay - only one of them ended up with an injury (and to be fair, it isn't as bad as what it could have been). The vets and technicians took care of my rabbits and gave us all the information we needed. I am incredibly grateful.
