Me and a group of friends rented the ‘Sasquatch’ cabin for the weekend and had nothing short of a blast!! Rooms were very spacious and clean and bathrooms had all the towels we could ever imagine! Hot tub was nice and warm and plenty of firewood and activities to indulge in! 10/10 recommend to any and all looking for a week/weekend get away!

We really enjoyed our stay here in the Dog House. The cabin was well stocked and clean. The farm atmosphere next to the Shawnee National Forest made it extra special and we enjoyed feeding the animals a few fruits and veggies as well as having some fresh eggs in the morning. Scout greeted us several times during our stay and kept watch at night with coyotes howling in the distance. We did a bit of hiking at each of the nearby attractions but I would certainly stay here again at a different time of year to get a new experience. Food amenities in this area are pretty sparse so you'll want to plan ahead.

Overall, our group had an absolute blast at Rim Rock’s Dogwood Cabins. We absolutely loved the trails, the animals, and especially Scout. What a good boy!!! We were very impressed with the level of amenities that this place had. A whole sports shack and a place to light a fire too. However, I can only give 4 stars because we had a slight mouse issue in the Bear’s Den cabin where we stayed. One of our group members thought a mouse crawled on her in the middle of the night and this was backed up with evidence of small pellets of feces in the bathroom. Please invest in mouse traps and we will 100% be back someday!!!

Good and badI stayed here April 15-21 at the Bear’s Den cabin with my friend and her daughter. Everything was wonderful. Cute little cabin that had some privacy. Visiting the animals was fun and scout the dog was awesome. There’s a great trail the goes all around the property and through the woods. We even got some fresh eggs. The owners were very kind and eager to help. BUT then we ended up having a big mouse issue. The mice were trying to nest in the silverware drawer. We ended up taking the silverware out and putting it in glasses on the counter. There were droppings everywhere!! On every surface. They even shredded and took my paper towels that was in a bag next to my bunk bed. Every bag we had on the ground or tables was full of poop. The loud chewing under my bunkbed drove me insane all night long. I had to use a noise maker. My friend texted them twice. They just said it was sprayed a year ago and they are trying to catch that mouse. I’m am sad that they ignored how bad this situation was! They acted like we were some wimpy women that can’t handle a mouse dropping! They didn’t offer to move us to another cabin, plenty were open. They didn’t even offer a mouse trap! It was just oh well, too bad. BUT TWO WEEKS AGO, there were complaints about a mouse crawling on someone in that same cabin. They responded that it would be taken care of immediately. Well, I guess not!!!! And they have multiplied!

Time Management in the Woods..... Location, Location, Location...Wife and I explored central and southern Illinois in late April, Temps from 50s to 80s, we picked Cougar Buffs cabin as our base the last few days. We found the location remote enough to be very peaceful, but close enough to do hub and spoke type trips, 1 to 2 hours away.We checked out Garden of the God's, only 15 minutes away, Pounds Hallow even closer...Rim Rock, all were great and well kept. We day tripped North to Harrisburg's Red Barn, then South to Superman's home Metropolis. Then Paducah and Cave in Rock, rode the ferry, and back in the cabin. Quick drive to Garden of the God's to catch sunset 🌇... Perfect location....for us...We explored the cabins and property the first day here, around 5pm, had some apples 🍎 so we feed the goats 🐐, the donkeys and horses 🐎 😀. Very well maintained property 👌, mowed, great use of natural materials in landscaping and cabin grounds. Swings, 🔥 firepits, plenty of outdoor amenities to enjoy. Well documented and easy to use, WiFi and Dish for those inclined, nice on a rainy 🌧 evening.I'm sitting on the enclosed porch of Cougar Buff as I write this review. Sounds of the night 🌙 peaceful and relaxing, crickets chirping, dim rope lights setting up the atmosphere of safe and Secure. Our cabin is small, perfect for our needs, bed 🛌, kitchen, bath, living spaces.... We fixed egg 🥚 sandwiches 🥪 with eggs provided by our host, deep yellow 💛 yokes, fresh from a hen. We also made chicken 🐔 burritos 🌯, 🌯 with Spanish rice... pots, pans, coffee maker, toaster, etc ready for use.Bathroom was excellent, great water 💧 pressure and hot, with good temp control. Bed was either a fold downFuton, or climb ladder to loft, we went with the Futon, very comfortable for our needs....Our favorite is the enclosed screen porch, life is better hearing nature, feeling a cool breeze, and knowing this is living good 👍.Highly recommend these accommodations and location, may your experience be as blessed as ours....Dr Haxs, Bardstown Ky 2024Nearby activities: Garden of the God's, 15 minutesPounds Hallow, 10 minutesRim Rock, 5 minutesCave in Rock, 30 minutesSuperman's home Metropolis 1 hour, Red Barn Antiques, 1 hour.Safety: Private property in country, fenced. Good and bad ! Good: loved the area close to many beautiful hikes, and kayaking! Loved the friendly farm animals and sweet farm dog Scout! Cabin peaceful and cozy with everything we could possibly need ! Bad cabin has a major mouse infestation! Was not even going to post about it initially because everything else was amazing ! As I let owners know and they stated they would have orkin come out . That orkin was out a year ago to mouse proof cabin . Ok great, figured owners didn’t know about issue now they can take care of it ! They were so responsive about everything else . Bringing farm fresh eggs to cabin . Texting about bad storms in area ! Letting us know about great hikes ! Then my friend read a review with a mouse complaint 2 weeks prior to our visit , same cabin Bear Den . Owners also posted they had Orkin out 2x since . Well Orkin didn’t work ! Maybe very clever mice ? Anyway there was mouse poop everywhere ( not an exaggeration) and they would gnaw all night on wood under bunk beds . Again I loved every thing else about the place ! If owners take care of mouse issue I would stay again !!

This was our 4th annual stay at Rim Rock’s Dogwood Cabins. We started with a group of 6 hiking friends and have added each year to 16 this year. We booked 3 cabins as our home base and explored the many hiking trails. The fire pits and free firewood are perfect for the cool evenings with our big group. We’re already looking forward to next year! This place is perfect in every way.

We stayed at the Sasquatch Shanty for 4 days and loved our stay. This is an extremely secluded pet friendly cabin surrounded by dense forest located in the middle of the Shawnee National Park near Elizabethtown, Illinois, and directly across the street from Rim Rock's Dogwood Cabins main location. The main location has many friendly animals to visit (cows, goats, donkeys, lamas, chickens, etc.). The cabin appears to be recently remodeled and is very roomy. The yard around the cabin is well maintained and open to keep forest critters at bay yet has several wide clear paths leading into the woods from which to start your hikes. Neat Sasquatch theme throughout the property. Beautiful wrap around porch. Hot tub which we didn't try. Burn pit with plenty of seating which we didn't try. Beautiful views! Great fiber Internet for uploading our photos from daily adventures (100Mb up and down)! Really nice washer and dryer and plenty of hot water for showers and lots of water pressure. Air conditioner worked great and kept it as cool as we wanted. Coffeemaker and really good coffee provided. The owners seem to care and keep the place nice. Kitchen fully stocked, lots of clean towels, lots of decorations throughout.Walkability: At least 4 wide and clean paths lead up to the cabin from the forest. I didn't verify but I think they connect to the main park paths.

We booked the Sasquatch Shanty last minute when our reservations elsewhere fell through. Steve and Tara were the best. They made sure we had everything we needed. The cabin was great with an amazing walk around deck. Very private. We had a fire under the stars on a beautiful night. It’s a short drive to Garden of the Gods & some great hiking trails. If you need to get away to decompress & enjoy nature this is your spot.

Five of us, (friends and family) stayed at "The Doghouse". The accommodations were comfortable and clean. It was supplied with all the items we needed. We loved the location, it was very quiet and peaceful. We liked walking the grounds and visiting all the animals, we especially loved our visits from Scout. It was nice to have fire wood available for the fire pit and lettuce and onion from the garden =) We also took our souvenier of sunflowers seeds and a cute little flower pot. We throughtly enjoyed our time in the "doghouse" for a few days to escape and have this peaceful visit the Shawnee area. I hope to be back again sometime and will refer your cabins to others! Thank you!

My family and I enjoyed our 4 night stay in Cougar Bluff cabin! My daughter was sad to leave. The property is absolutely beautiful and so close to trails. My kids are small so we only managed to do two hikes (Rim Rock & Garden of the Gods) but we did enjoy the lake at Pounds Hollow. We also enjoyed feeding the donkeys, mini horses and goats. There's also a garden we were able to pick some veggies from and make a salad. This place is the best! Thank you Steve and Tara for sharing this beautiful area with us!

Beautifully maintained farm!! I have never seen a farm so neatly kept and animals so clean. I didn’t see a single bit of manure which was impressive. Animals are extremely well taken care of. Owners provide a “u-pick” garden which is awesome and fresh eggs in your kitchen. Also some really fun statues and sights for children to find as they hike around. Great location and set up for a family with young children. Only suggestion would be to stay in the newer cabins (I.e dog house, eagle, etc.) we stayed in deer run and it was a great space but there were mouse problems. Owner was responsive and works to fix it just is the nature of an older cabin. My daughters loved this place and asked if we could live here!

The area is beautiful and the grounds and cabins are beautiful. We loved all the animals and the cute little garden area for guests. The hiking trail on the grounds are well maintained and clean. Our cabin however was not the cleanest. The ac didn't work very well and the cabin stayed around 84 degrees in the day time. There was mouse droppings all over the bed when we went to go to sleep. The mice got into our food every single night. We ended up having to toss cookies, full loaves of bread and bags of chips. There was droppings in the bathroom counter top on our toothbrushes (Gross) and all over the kitchen counter top. To top it off as I was pulling out cookware from under the stove we found a mouse nest. We had been cooking with that cookware the entire stay. My sister in law got extremely sick after the first night we stayed. Vomiting and diarrhea. This morning as we were leaving I found a rather large roach in the bathroom. I think it might have been a water or wood roach as it had wings. Also the pull out bed is not a bed it is springs inside a mattress cover. My husband and I had to sleep on the couch by pushing it together. Not comfortable! Either way for the amount of money you have to pay to stay at the cabins you should not have to deal with pests and you should be able to feel comfortable. Instead we found we were uncomfortableand grossed out most of the time. We will be coming back to the area but not back to these cabins. FYI the owner is aware of the problem with the mice and is still renting the cabin and didn't bother saying anything to us until I told him about how bad they were.

I wish I could give 6 out of 5 stars. Perfect place for some rest and relaxation. The property is so beautiful and the cabins are very accommodating. So peaceful!!! The location is perfect as well. As someone who travels a lot, the cabins are located nearly walking distance to one of the most naturally beautiful and jar-dropping areas in the Midwest. Rim Rocks Dogwood Cabins matched that! The owners take great pride in maintaining the property and cabins and it clearly shows!

We had another wonderful Shawnee National Forest Adventure with our home base at Rim Rock’s Dogwood Cabins. This was our second time to stay at the cabins. We did lots of day hikes around the property and Shawnee. We are a group of 9 hiking friends from the St Louis area and stayed at Deer Run and Cougar Bluff.Everything was great! Plenty of cooking supplies, big pots and pans, outdoor grill. We loved the fire pits with lots of free (and dry) firewood. There were delicious farm fresh eggs in the kitchen. Sheets, blankets, pillows and towels were provided. We had one slight issue. We made the owner aware and he handled it in a professional and acceptable manor. We couldn’t ask for more. We recommend Rim Rocks Dogwood Cabins and look forward to returning ad exploring more of the Shawnee National Forest.

We stayed three nights, and had such a wonderful time! My daughter and her best friend absolutely loved the farm, with all of the animals and the hammock swing. It felt very safe, and so it was really nice to be able to let the girls run around and play and enjoy being kids without feeling like I have to constantly worry about something happening. You can’t beat the location so close to Rim Rock trail and Garden of the Gods. The cabins have everything you need. We will definitely be returning.

Been here multiple times and we absolutely love this place. Cabins are equipped with everything you will need besides food. Very clean and accommodating. The owners are friendly and make themselves available to their guest's at any time. The perimeter hike around the property is really nice and a must do at night.Did I mention free dry firewood for your after hike fire .🔥Rim rock trail is right across the street and many other amazing hiking spots in and around The Shawnee National Forest are just minutes away.Don't forget to stop and say hi to the animals on the property which include lamas..goats..donkeys...rabbits..chickens and a baby cow.

These cabins are great. Quiet and secluded, plenty of space and privacy. They are well stocked with linens, bedding, kitchenware, and a few essential toiletries. There were farmfresh eggs in the kitchen when we arrived. Grills, campfire pits and free firewood. Right across the street from Rim Rock trail and close to so many gorgeous places. The animals on the property are delightful to see. The bed was fine but the futon-like mattresses on other beds are a bit hard. Fine if you like a firm mattress but next time I’d bring a foam topper.

We discovered this beautiful, remote get away about 7 years ago. My husband and I began going there annually to celebrate our birthdays and unwind. Recently, we took our kids with us and they had such a wonderful time outdoors! The cabins are rustic and homey. Everything is provided just bring your own food and drink! The kids loved hiking on the trails and seeing the farm animals. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a small family trip or short get away. Garden of the gods is also another sight to see only a few miles away.If being outdoors in the woods is your thing, you’ll absolutely love it!!!

The Rim Rock Dogwood Cabins are a great bargain. All the amenities, you can walk to the Pound's Hollow area and trails at Garden of the Gods, and a short drive to two dozen plus natural and historical areas. It's like going back in time and seeing what the land was long ago.The cabins have excellent HVAC, screened porches, you can glam camp it up or dress it down as rustic as you like. Everything was clean, organized, and in good working order. We've stayed here when it was 105° and 5°, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. If you're a hunter, hiker, rock climber, or fishing enthusiast, it's all here, and there are multiple cultural, historical, and archaeological sites with a half hour, from ancient shelters and petroglyphs to Revolutionary War and War of 1812 sites. Can't recommend the hospitality of these cabins enough.

We stayed here for a few days and it was great. The cabin has pretty much everything you need except for food, and was very well taken care of. The property is beautiful, and so is the perimeter trail. They have lots of animals to see on the farm, and one of their dogs (Scout) even joined us for the walk and kept us company. The cabin is pretty close to a lot of hiking trails too.

We stayed in the Deer Run cabin. It was perfect for us. Very small, but clean. It had everything we needed. We really were only inside to sleep and cook. If we had to stay indoors, it would be a bit too small, although it does have a big screened-in porch as well. The gas grill worked great, and we loved the big fire pit with Adirondack chairs and firewood! The property is beautiful, and we loved walking the perimeter trail that circled the property. The location is great with the Rim Rock Trail located directly across the road from our cabin. Other trails, including the Garden of the Gods were just a short drive.

Such a cozy cabin! We were in the Deer Run cabin, which is nicely secluded in the trees, next to the old cemetery. Perfect size for our family of four, and we enjoyed cooking dinners there in the evening after walking in the Garden of the Gods earlier in the day. Each of the cabins is different, so make sure you check out their descriptions online to find the perfect fit for you. We are looking forward to coming back on a future trip.

Just anything you can think of is provided! Also they are just down the road from Garden of the Gods and pretty much anywhere else you want to go! The owners are way way nice people!
