This place has a good selection of pet products and food staff is very knowledgeable. And very helpful.It's located in a strip mall at the end so accessibility is very good.They do tend to be more expensive than big box stores have the same food but they have more choices to choose from

Not their best location. Went on a weekday (Tuesday around lunchtime) with my little boy who was off of school that day to buy a pet betta fish for us. The chubby white girl that "helped" us kept screaming that anything we buy was going to die. Like a ported aquarium plant, unpotted aquarium plant, and items being sold as foreground aquarium plants would grow to more than 10x the size and no longer fit in the aquarium because 'she has that exact same plant' then closed with, "I'll sell you whatever you want, but..." The store was overall more disheveled than other locations I've been to in the past.

Grooming department is horrible. I been taking my dog to petco since she was 6 months old. We ended up moving to carol stream so i took her to this location. The groomer at this location said my dog was aggressive and she needs to be knocked to do the grooming service. So next time we try to take her to the original location we been taking her and they DNRed her! They said she hasn’t really been getting service here. Like are they blind she’s been coming to this location since she was 6 month. Don’t trust petco! They are horrible never ever.

Unfortunately, on November 5, this year (2023), the store in South Elgin IL, the Cashier named Carol, charged me twice for my dog's grooming service, $67.44. When I realized this, I called to clarify the error. Asking me to go to the store to get my money back. A woman named Stacy told me that she couldn't return it to me because the fault and responsibility was on my Bank, something that is not true because the card was never declined and the teller named Carol made me swipe the card twice because the payment according to She did not pass, later the woman named Stacy asked her to solve it and she did nothing, she only insisted saying that it was the Bank's fault and that I should fix it with them, totally false because the Bank confirmed to me that Petco South Elgin charged me twice. The woman Stacy made me return to the store three times, she did not want to give me the money back because the store manager named Jimmy was not there, asking for my phone number and they never called me; calling him several times refusing to talk to solve this mistake by making it bigger. It took more than 7 days for her to rudely return the second charge, nor did she offer me an apology. I never understood the bad treatment. I felt very upset and frustrated. I have been a Petco customer and in that store for more than 8 years. I have run a business not only Grooming services, I also buy dog ​​food, everything related to aquariums, buying fish, reptiles and food for my pets, I also never understood why they behave like that, I have observed that especially with Asian and Latin people specifically in that store treat people of another ethnic origin badly and the only answer I have IS RACISM because if it had not been like that, the treatment would have been different, subsequently my husband went to the store and they told him that we were not welcome after the blame It was them for improperly charging for a Grooming service twice. PETCO South Elgin has not canceled my husband’s membership which they are charging us month to month. Should PETCO CENTRAL because we are not welcome to be able to cancel membership . Why should we be the ones to do that if they are the ones kicking us out? We have been charged for two months, even though we have not been using benefits because of this. It is very unfortunate and negative that they have this behavior if it were not for the customers, these stores would not exist. I hope these notes serve as a reference to decide where to go, they treat us with clarity and respect.

Employees are amazing at this location. I had a sweet lady (cashier) helping me with my reward number. Unfortunately, she has to leave, but the manager took over. The manager is the most amazing manager, she made sure that I got my rewards and vital care fix over the phone. Totally recommend this store as their employees definitely know what customer service is.08/23/2023 Around 7 pm .

640pm 2/1/23 If you dont like your job, quit. Stop screaming that there's pee on the floor, and you gotta clean it. Stop loudly complaining about your job when there're customers in the store.This caused me so much anxiety while shopping that I went to the cat aisles and had an anxiety attack.It's this white, dirty blonde lady with a bit of a beard. She is just so unpleasant and scary. Honestly, if your employees are that unstable that they are screaming during work, Im gonna shop elsewhere. I dont know if this person is gonna come into work one day, get triggered by pee on the floor and shoot the place up.I can hear her complaining angrily about customers to her darker haired co worker. Why should I shop here?EDIT: I spoke to the manager that was checking me out(darker haired woman with a darker complexion) she just pretended she didn't hear me despite several calm and respectful attempts to bring it up.This person also wrongly said I needed a prescription for frozen dog food and I tried telling her thats not true and I k ow it for a fact. She didnt believe me and insisted upon the script....until she scanned it and what do you know? She was wrong. Seems like a great manager so far if you wanna drive away customers.I uploaded 2 pics. tried getting crickets and they refused to put cardboard in the bag even though I could literally see a stack of it with my own 2 eyes and gave me an explanation that made no sense as to why ultimately they could not just put cardboard in the bag lol. then they did not put the membership discount on and by that point i just wanted to go so i didn't fuss.

Took my dog Mumble here to get groomed after a very muddy morning in a herding pit. All of the women in the grooming department were very nice and accommodating when I called to make a last minute appointment. Katie groomed Mumble and did a full de-shedding on him and I have to say this is by far the best groom he's ever gotten despite usually going to expensive boutiques. He was returned to me happy, clean & unbelievably soft! I HIGHLY recommend this grooming department as they were all kind, professional and sensitive to my dogs needs. Thank you so much, Katie!

I wish they had more mainstream cat food choices. They only have the high-end brands and I was hoping to find a regular brand that my cat likes but in a difficult to find flavor. I guess I'll have to just keep ordering from Chewy. Other than that, the store seems very nice.

Your average Petco location where you'll find your basics. I've been here a couple of times already for dog food and the employees here are friendly. If you're here for that only, I'd give this place 4-5 stars.However, what motivated me to write this review was the suspicious behavior I witnessed in the dog grooming department when I was standing in line to check out.There was a small dog getting groomed that was barking and appeared to be a bit uncooperative. The grooming tech tried to calm the pup down by forcefully holding the pups head/ear and wagging their finger in the pups face. Which of course only stressed the pup more. The tech, visibly distressed by the interaction as well, stepped back and collected themselves, then attempted to proceed with the appointment. This pup most of been 15-20 lbs max, and it appeared to be a little excessive the way the tech gripped the dogs heads.Now, you must be thinking, well this is just an opinion, and though that might be true, I as a dog owner of over 20 years, you learn a thing or two about how to handle a pet when grooming and what professionalism in a grooming setting looks like. So let's just say if that were MY dog and I saw that, well...it'd be my last time there for sure and I'd probably earn a spot on a permanently banned board for that location lol Take that with what you will but for me this grooming location is a hard pass for me, dawg.If anyone from that store wants more information, I'm happy to provide more details.

The people that work at this Petco (Route 59 in South Elgin) are EXCEPTIONALLY sweet and very friendly, so this is the one I go to. Can't say that for the one on North Avenue in St. Charles -- completely different vibe.

I bought nightcrawler worms the other day for my pet toad, the worms were not dated and upon opening them they were dead for so long they were moldy. I took them back to exchange them and was told because I do not have the receipt and I am not a rewards member I could not return or exchange the item. The poor quality product and inconvenience was disappointing enough, but the customer service was most disappointing. This problem wouldn't have happened if the live worms were dated. Because of this I will make sure that not only me, but my family and friends no longer shop with petco.

While smaller than the neighboring pet supply store, they just seem to do a better job here. Their fish section is always better stocked and the staff more attentive. We also got our most recent pup here during an adoption event. So thank you for supporting animal rescues!

Corporate, take note of how this locations management chooses to operate. This is the only Petco I've ever gone to and felt like the employees want the company to make money while the customers get the care and info they need. Their reptile specialist is why I bought my bearded dragon here. I have spent hundreds here in the last few months because they convinced me of the value of your care program. You guys needs to take care of these people. They are the reason I'm headed there right now for crickets.

My dog just got refused for grooming services. No muzzled dogs, no medicated dogs. Never mind that both are recommended for him by his vet. Never mind that he has horrible anxiety and it scares him to be in that situation.Mind you that’s not clearly explained on their website for booking, so I found out when I got him there. Now I have to find time during the week to take him to another groomer or hopefully get an appointment at my vet.One more thing that I haven’t mentioned before, but I have had two HORRIBLE run-ins with the trainer there. I would literally NEVER take my dog to that woman and management should be aware that she’s not doing anything to help your customer service.Petco, you’ve lost a customer. Considering your reputation regarding grooming and dog safety at your groomers, you probably can’t afford to.

I frequent this store for my dogs and aquarium needs, and the staff is always helpful and pleasant. Petco is the only pet store that provides the Whole Hearted brand of food that my dogs eat, and they always have what I need for my fish, as well as the 40 lb value size dog food that I prefer to purchase. I am very happy with shopping in this store.
