On March 4, 2024, lead butcher and department head, named Doug, prohibited me from placing a routine meat order and hung up on me after stating he was "not placing any more orders; not gonna deal with it"; as well as stating prior that his underling named Josh was better skilled to place orders than himself. Big John's markets themselves as full-service butchers; special orders are not uncommon. I sought help from co-owner, Dan Doughty, who supported this ill-treatment, stating I should take my business elsewhere.

Probably the best meat cuts around, very good quality and a butcher on staff. Very friendly and helpful staff, not bad prices for a locally owned, non chain grocery store. I shop there often

We are lucky to have this great store in our little town. It is a little expensive but has good sales. Customers come other towns to shop their meat department.Their donuts are the best I've ever had although I've not been able to buy any lately. Maybe after the inflation goes back down.

Employees are always very nice, store is always very clean and organized and the prices seem to be a bit better now than they were before so I give it all five stars. You will get a hometown feel and quality when you're in there, the bakery is an entity of its own putting out the best donuts and buttercream cupcakes in the area. Their deli meats and cheeses are mouth-watering and their hot eats to take home are always delicious as well. I always like that they employ the younger generation of kids to help establish a good work ethic in the future.

Small grocery store just like you'd find in any small town. The cost of things tend to be higher than just going 10 miles down the highway to Harrisburg. But when you really need something quick and you're right there, there's no better place to shop.

It was great, prices are a little higher but that's everywhere. I always buy my hamburger and pork roasts and other meats there they are better processed there. I just enjoy going into big John's and checking out the meat department. And buying there doughnuts...

I love BigJohns small town shopping. The meats ARE select not simply labeled to be. Produce is always fresh their deli and bakery are ready to please and it's a clean store. Prices are above average for the area but do is the service.

Big John’s has a terrific meat department, deli, and bakery with the best donuts around. They also have interesting items tucked away throughout the store if you take the time to look. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Great place to grocery shop. They have an in-house deli and bakery. I just had them make a birthday cake for Dec 22nd. It was my 1st time ordering a custom cake and it was delicious. They did mess up one part which wasn't a big deal but they didn't mention it to me or offer a discount, otherwise I would have given 5 stars. If people would just be upfront with mistakes, it would give their business solid integrity.

This is a perfect small community grocery store. Owners and everyone else involved are sincere and make every effort to do a good job for their customers. The meat and bakery departments are World class and represent the best of American products.

First time I have been there in over 4 years. Liked their fresh meat case and produce. Good prices on some things, others were a little high. That is the norm for smaller stores and chains in southern ILL. Over all I liked the store.

Nice little small town grocer. Prices are higher than you'd rather pay but that's not uncommon for places like this. Young employees are not friendly at all and will eyeball you as you come in. Conversation seems forced.

They are friendly people but there prices are so high, if they would drop prices on generic items then maybe they will have more customers I can't afford to go back we will do without I hate it cause it's close to us

Not a bad place, considering the area. Didn't have some of what I needed in stock. But, great down home store and excellent service. Nice people and clean store. For being from out of town, and for the size of town this is in, I was rather impressed with this place.

Not an amazing selection, and the tech is pretty old. Prices are high but that is kind of to be expected for a home-town type store. Their produce is pretty bad quality though. A lot of people really like their ground beef, which I would agree it is pretty decent.

One of the few family owned grocrie stores left in our area, although the prices are a little higher the people are always friendly an out going, the have fresh mad doughnuts every day an there meat is where every one around our are go to get it is fresh, an they still do their own butchering, best hamburger, ground chuck around.They also have several products that are mad locally, an most of them are really good stop buy check them out.
