Always enjoy coming in here and admiring all the critters. The lizards were smiling, the saltwater is beautiful. And you can see the personalities in the fishes faces.

My entire shopping experience was ruined by one of the 2 ladies working today. She was rude, snarky, and very unhappy/unhelpful the entire time we were shopping. She kept walking behind me, huffing like a moody teenager. It made me feel very unwelcomed. I will not be returning. I'll drive out of town for my pet needs. Thank you, but no, thank you.

I come here once a week to get live food for my gecko. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. The store may be busy, but they always make me feel like I'm the most important customer.Store hours are Wednesday-Saturday open at 10am.

Terrible customer service. Very rude people who own or work here. Will not be back for anything. Places like this make it hard to shop local.

Highly recommend. We brought home “kitty” last Friday. He’s by far the calmest piggie. He runs to the side of his cage. to my daughter anytime she goes in his room. Allows her to carry him around. NEVER attempts to run from her. She even reads with him in her lap.

The lady that works there is very nice and helpful I always feel like I can make an informed decision on the fish I buy she is very knowledgeable and enjoy doing business with her but the reason I have 3 starsis because the older gentleman that works there is rude and acts like he is talking down on you and for this reason if I go back and he is working I will wait till he is not there

I remember this store during Chinaaa Virus mandates telling me I HAD to wear a mask to shop in their store and then told me I had to purchase one and could fo that at the Brown’s Drug store next to them.I’ll never shop here again.I bet they took the government monies to help them purchase mask yet they did not purchase mask and have them for customers! How can we find out if they took the government money and turn them in???I am willing to spend my time turning them in.

I went here to get a pet turtle. They were so very nice and informative about what I needed to do to ensure my turtle is healthy and happy. It certainly holds a price tag, but supplies seem to be high quality, so I am very happy. They got me all set up with everything I needed in under 10 minutes. I will be stopping here to get supplies when I need them.

This store has got me through every bump of being a pet owner. I once brought it my sickly leopard gecko minutes before closing, and without complaint, the worker gave me the information I needed to get my lizard back to health. They have always been exceptionally kind and helpful. Noah’s Ark is always my first stop when I need anything for my pets. It’s so nice to have a local pet store that can provide reptile supplies. They take such great care of all their animals and I can always trust their help. They’re the best!

Hello fans and fellow Rock N Strollers!!! We purchased some mice here for our Ball Python. He will LOVE his next meal. The mice were clean looking, they play around, and poor things have no clue. I apologize in advance for this sorta post but its reality and sometimes it not fair even for these little creatures. Its nature and its a part of evolution and the circle of life. Anyways the store itself was pretty decent. Clean. And the fish area was very well kept. Prices were fair and the staff was very informative and showed concern about our purchase. She expressed very good professionalism and was very courteous to our needs. My in laws purchased a Female Pastel Ball Python. Thanks! Keep up the good work!

Staff is friendly, but I feel as if I should never buy here again. I've bought 3 animals from this pet shop. The first one was a chinchilla, he was very mean and just escaped constantly. We kept contacting them asking why this was happening and they never helped, it turns out they just hadn't told us how to close the cage correctly. This resulted in me buying clips to hold the door together and then my chinchilla tried to squeeze through and broke his ribs and died. Next, I got another chinchilla. She was very young. I dont know if she was too young to be separated from the mother or what, but she was on a strict only hay diet and she over ate and choked to death. Now, these two experiences were a few years ago. But, on Friday June 22nd, I went and bought a guinea pig from them. She was doing fine, until she was playing in her cage tonight and started screeching. I rushed over as quick as I could and she was hanging from the hay feeder with her leg stuck freaking out. Her leg is very clearly broken. The shop doesn't open until Wednesday and it's Sunday so I can't even contact them. Mind you, this unsafe hay feeder is one of the only ones they sell. They even had a bundle package including this hay feeder. Everything I'm reading tonight says you should never use this kind of hay feeder. I'm very unhappy. I'm 16 and spent my money that I have worked hard for. I fell in love with this guinea pig already. I blame the shop for selling completely unsafe things. Never shopping here again.Edit: after our $425 vet visit yesterday, I found out that they sold her to me malnourished. Makes the situation just that much better.

I decided to get myself a pet in 2020, but I had no idea what I might get. One of the lovely workers here, Cecilia, helped me choose the right animal for me, which just so happened to be a leopard gecko. Before visiting Noah’s Ark, I had no idea how much a gecko could improve my life. But, my boy really does make the worst days a little brighter. The wonderful staff here taught me how to care for a leopard gecko and instructed me on everything I would need to make his life happy and comfortable. Every week since then, I have set foot back in this shop to buy food and an occasional gift for my leopard gecko. The staff has been very kind and caring, and I appreciate all of them so much. You guys changed my life in 2020 and continue to improve it each time I find myself in Noah’s Ark Pet Shoppe. I really don’t know what I would do without my gecko and without you guys.Thank you so much! You guys definitely will have me as a lifelong customer.

You can't find many privately owned pet stores anymore these days but if you do they are few and far between. I've always had great experiences here for many years with the staff and the owner. Yes the store is a little pricey in area's but it's well worth it as the owner cares about quality over quantity.

I just left there for my second visit and I found them very friendly and if you need plants and you're within driving distance of Effingham this is the place. I live in Salem so it's a 45 minute drive but well worth it. Their fish are healthy and the plants and tanks are incredibly beautifully maintained

We go in there every week just about. They upkeep their stuff to high standards and everything I bought/buy has been absolutely exceptional. Sometimes we as people especially in this day in age have to have everything exactly the way we want it. When you go to a personable pet store that isn't chained own you may feel different. That's ok but, they do what is right for all their pets. If you're from outta town and have a bad experience or your fish died, you may not have taken the proper steps. The local people here love the store and that's enough. Like I said, I'm a weekly customer and have not had one problem.

The entire staff is willing to go above and beyond to answer any questions I’ve ever had about our fish and reptile! They are very thorough and I always leave knowing more information than expected! We have always had good luck with whatever we have bought from the store so it upsets me reading the poor reviews some have left. Perhaps the issue is you being under-education about how to care for the pets you choose to purchase. Anyways..I’ve had nothing but great experiences and will continue to support our small town pet store! 😊

My kids have taken a strong liking to fish this summer. Shopping here they have been knowledgeable and so patient while they help us add to our tanks as my kids have asked many many questions! Prices are reasonable and they have a great selection! I recommend this store to all wanting to shop from someone who cares about their animals!

Friendly staff, knowledgeable as well. The enclosures are well maintained, as is the floor itself. Also, a nice little mix of pets.It may just become a regular weekend trip for us, even if we aren't buying much.As far as Effingham goes, it's one of the best businesses I've visited overall.

i recently purchased a fish and it died two days later. when i called about it, the owner was rude to me. i had proof of payment and fish death, but he would not hear it. when i went in to get a refund he would only refund the other products i purchased, not the fish. okay fine. meanwhile, he was demeaning me and being extremely rude the whole time. i work for a small business and have firsthand experience in customer service. we do whatever it takes to make things right and leave a positive impact. this man today, however, was the worst display of customer service and human kindness i have ever seen. not a good way to run a business sir. 0/10 i would never recommend this place.the other workers are very friendly and helpful in my experience.

My daughter and I were in the store today and I thought it was very clean and did NOT smell bad. I've been in some pretty bad pet stores too! Most of the animals/fish seemed healthy and all the reptile/fish tanks were clean. The lady who helped us was very nice and helpful. We bought 2 rats, 4 mice, a hamster, cage and accessories. I thought everything was a little overpriced but not too bad. The only complaint I have is that the cages with the rats were pretty overcrowded. Maybe they were just feeder rats but they were still crowded. After we got the rodents home, I was quite pleased with their temperaments. The rats sat on my shoulder and just wanted to cuddle. My daughter could not be happier with the hamster. As for the mice......they were for our ball python.

The upside: The store itself has greatly improved over the past year or two. The fish section looks way better now. But the downside is the workers, themselves. I've never been in there, ever, without feeling like I'm imposing on the workers' day. Small talk seems to annoy them. I've tried to make polite conversation while picking out fish, and they just stand there, silent, like you're interrupting their lunch or something. I gave them several years of my business, but I think I'm done. I don't need my butt kissed when I'm buying stuff, but I'd like to have at least SOME effort made to be at least semi-friendly.

This shop could be great if more care and effort was put forth. The fish and reptile tanks were long overdue for a cleaning. I’m especially saddened to see the state of their axolotls. They are very difficult pets and it is clear that little to no research was done by staff before deciding to sell them. The staff is never friendly either. It is really unfortunate that their animals suffer because of lack of care. The reply’s to comments like mine are always that they do care for their animals to the best of their ability, but clearly that is not the case.

This is a family owned business that I have enjoyed for almost 20 years. They have a variety of small animals, reptiles, fresh and salt water fish, and everything you need to take care of them and enjoy them. Prices are very reasonable. Cages and tanks are clean and fresh. Pay them a visit, you won't be sorry. Unless you take to much home. ...

The Fish guy was very unprofessional and Rude, my little boy picked out a fish, and he gave us all these reasons why we shouldn't get this one, like I understand he may have feelings for these fish, but do you want to sell them or what?? Like let my little boy have the fish he wants! So Unbelievable! I will not be going back till I know that guy is no longer there!! Like I was gonna spend a lot more money in there until my little boy got treated this! Then I was like Nope we out! Ive had fish all my Adult life and know what I'm doing! However the Lady behind counter was very friendly and nice!🙂

To start off, I'd be happy to delete & rewrite my review if circumstances here change. I did have a positive experience here, & the women working were super friendly and helpful! With small businesses, I think most people expect them to be more ethical with better care & attention towards whatever products they produce. In this case, it's living, breathing animals, which means the burden of responsibility is so high! However, I was disappointed to see when I came to visit & purchase some toys for my mice that Noah's Ark does not meet up to ethical animal care standards.Small rodents & other small pets have HUGE space requirements. While unfortunately the USA has no legal restrictions that regulate these, acceptable BARE MINIMUMS of space for small pets include:Hamsters: Minimum of 600 square inches of floor space. (A cage 48 inches long 12 inches wide).Mice: Mice are climbers & value vertical space- measure cage size in volume. The minimum for 2 female mice or 1 male mouse is the equivalent of a 20 gallon long aquarium. (30 x 12 x12). For each additional mouse, add 10 gallons. So for 4 mice you need 40 gallons, 5 you need 50, etc.Gerbils: Gerbils will destroy any non-aquarium tank & since gerbils generally will work best in pairs or trios, anything the size of a 40 gallon aquarium tank or larger is ideal.Rats: Rats are HUGE & need really large metal cages. Glass tanks are simply too small no matter what & WILL cause illness & expensive respiratory infections because they pee & poop a lot & ammonia will build up. Unfortunately the rats were in small glass tanks...Hamsters, mice, gerbils, & rats have HUGE territories that depending on the animal, (especially hamsters) can span miles. In captivity, when not given adequate space, they become stressed & bored, & result to unnatural, stress-based activities like overgrooming, jumping to escape, cage wire biting, & so on so forth. & even if you can't see it, keeping animals in small enclosures will make them FEEL miserable.Unfortunately, these types of cages are exactly what Noah's Ark sells. Cages that are so small that if you were to scale it to the size of a human, you would only be able to walk 8 or so feet in either direction. The equivalent of locking someone in the spare bedroom for the rest of their life. For example, the Kaytee One Level habitat- which was absolutely NOT the smallest cage they were advertising for sale as a permanent, lifelong habitat, is only 11 x 16 x 16. A winter white hamster, which is around 3 inches long, would barely be able to move over 5 lengths of its body before it could go no further. Again: this is an animal that will travel for miles every night naturally, they are now locked up in something barely bigger than a shoebox.I spent about 15-20 minutes there & there was not one cage marketed for rodents that was even close to the bare minimum. If you go here for mice their small bird cages are a better size, with mice safe bar spacing, get these or a large aquarium instead. If you get a hamster or gerbil, it is necessary to get a large (40-60) gallon aquarium as they do not sell any other habitats appropriate for these animals. Get one of the large metal bird cages for your rats instead of a glass tank. The animals themselves were displayed in shoebox cages as well. Rodents in general need a minimum of 6 inches of bedding, with 15-30 inches being the ideal amount for hamsters and gerbils specifically. This is because all of these animals construct elaborate burrows in the wild. Even little mice, will create burrows up to 25 feet in length! Yet, none of the animals were given more than an inch or so of bedding. You could even see them trying to burrow but they kept trying to get further than the glass would let them :/ It was really sad. There was also very little enrichment in the cages. Rodents need wooden chews and things to shred. The mice didn't even have a hide and were simply huddled in a corner. If the store doesn't want to spend money they can at least put their used toilet paper rolls in for them to shred.
