When a 3rd friend told me about Yelling Helen, I had to try it. There is a story behind the unusual name, but since I couldn't verify it. I will not mention that. I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. The area was all outdoor seating, and plenty of it in a large area that was nicely shaded with clean picnic tables to sit all. The parking was easy in and out and this little place is busy. You can walk up and order, or do the drive thru. It's a simple menu, not a lot of choices but because of this, the service is fast. The workers were pleasant. They do offer samples which is really nice. All 3 friends recommended the strawberry butter ice cream. I ordered the barbecue nachos and it was delicious. I also got the regular strawberry butter cone. I am not a strawberry ice cream fan at all , but I have to say......it was really good. A regular cone was a little too much to eat, next time I will get the miniature size. I really enjoyed it all. The food and atmosphere, and will definitely be back.

My husband and I occasionally drive out of our way to visit this cute little ice cream shop. Their ice cream is delicious and decently priced. The staff, mostly young girls, are always so cheerful and friendly, and bring us our order quickly. They have cute little tables outside, fairly spread apart for privacy, and the atmosphere is very calming picnic feel. I had a salted caramel shake, and my husband had a raspberry shake and they both were delicious and nice and thick! We highly recommend Yellin Helen’s for your next ice cream treat.

Very tasty ice cream and very nice staff. I came here by coincidence and after I tried the ice cream, I came back two times more!They have different sizes, changing flavors and toppings - so you can create a lot of combinations!The small shop has a drive-in. But much better are the benches in front of the building with sunshade,so you can sit outside, relax for few minutes and enjoy the soothing vibes there.

Absolutely love their ice cream. I stopped in on my way home from Mt. Vernon yesterday to see what flavors were on the menu. Pistachio! Omgosh, it was SO good! The service is always fast and friendly, and I stop by nearly every time I visit Mt. Vernon. Their bbq, nachos, and other items are great as well. They are a very busy little place.

Such a cute spot to stop. YES they do have toilets. I wasn't sure bc it looked so small in photos. It's all outdoor seating. The food was good!Great place to stop and stretch your legs on a long road trip!Kid-friendliness: There was plenty of space for the kids to run around and play. They also had some side walk chalk set out.

I stopped here on 2/8/24 for some nachos and a kids' hotdog meal.. when I got there it was 6:15ish and I waited my turn in line.. I got to the window and asked if I could order food.. the guy asked the girl that was working, and she said no, I am not making anything else.. so I asked what time they stopped serving food and she said 7.. I looked at my clock and it was 6:45.. this was the first time I had bad service here.. they are normally very pleasant and upbeat.. my 4 year old son was crying because he wanted his hotdog.. So I drove to Frosty Mug instead and they were very happy to help!

Tried the maple ice cream and it tastes just like pancake syrup. They offer a few items for food but their main item is their ice cream. The price was amazing for my cone as the staff was friendly as well. Super excited to go back and try more ice cream!Edit: if you get the maple ice cream, add bacon!

Took my mother and wife here for a treat today. Size of icecream cones food,the only problem was mom had vanilla, wife had dole whip orange and mine was to be fire and ice which was light red colored icecream that was to represent red hot candy,the problem was no flavor of anything.Parking: Hard to find enough parking when it's really busy.

Love this place, it's our go to ice cream and cruise night. The malts taste like old school soda shop malts which we love. The only thing I can say is that sometimes their shakes are runny, sometimes they're thick and I think it depends on who's doing it. Same with the toppings on the cups, sometimes you get a lot and sometimes a little, but no matter how it is its delicious!

Very nice friendly little ice cream stand that has a limited sandwich menu also. They always have new yummy flavors of ice cream, and their Sundaes are very good, nice sized and priced. The busiest place in town! I always check their Facebook page to see the new flavor.

Stopped while cutting through the backroads to get back to Chicago, instantly brought me back to growing up in a small town and the little ice cream shack everyone would congregate at on a beautiful, warm afternoon. It was hopping and had a great family vibe, plenty of seating to kick back under the shade trees. There is nothing else like fresh soft serve ice cream!!! I, of course, over served myself because it was so good, thanks for the little escape!!

On our way through from Minnesota to Atlanta and decided to stray off the beaten path for some ice cream. Found this gem, and clearly the right choice as it was super popular with the locals, and the Dole Whip was to die for!! So glad we stopped by! Be back soon!!

What there is is very good. Limited menu. Excellent ice cream. Be aware that the BBQ is more like crockpot pulled pork than the real pot article. Still, it's pretty darn good.

Yellin' Helen's is a cute little shack in Dix just off 37. They serve some of the absolute best Chicken Salad Sandwiches that I've had in the area to date.Their menu is small but the taste is big! They serve dole whip ice creams and have numerous cold treats and specials!I have not had a visit that left me disappointed nor have I had a messed up order. The food is always HOT and their sweet treats are always COLD! Did I mention it's D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S?!Perfect little place to stop for a summer treat or a quick lunch. They do have a drive through lane along with their walk up order window.Be cautioned, trailers must park along the road as the drive through is rather tight. I always tell people to stop and try them out if they are in the area and most make special trips just to get some of their Ice Creams!A gem of a spot in a small little town. And best of all, it's a small privately owned business.
