"My review will not justify just how amazing this Veterinarian clinic is, you ought to see for yourself to know how truly incredible they are. Starting with Dr Askew, she’s absolute a wonder and I am so grateful for her ethical practice and caring heart. Dr. Askew and Liz are attentive, honest, kind, extremely knowledgeable and truly cares about each pet that walks through her doors. Thank you guys so much for taking care of my furry family members, and me for that matter, from the bottom of our hearts - we thank you!!. I have been with Dr Askew and Liz since 2007. As for the staff at Cortland Animal Hospital, they are just as pleasant. Each time my fur babies come in the staff is so welcoming and sweet, they always put a smile on my faces and handle my animals with great care. You’re doing an amazing job making a difference, keep up the great work! We are thankful for each of you, your honesty and integrity is refreshing and appreciated. You're stuck with me for life. Thank you!!!" All animals below have been treated at this amazing clinic, Dr Askew and Liz have even helped me a couple times when I ran into a situation with my horses.

My husband and I have been taking our dogs to Cortland Animal Hospital for over ten years. In that time we've seen nothing but compassion and kindness from everyone there. When our pittie went into renal failure Dr. Askew and her staff really went above and beyond answering our questions, scheduling tons of appointments, and making sure she got the best care. As a result we were able to have 2.5 more years with her. When it came time to say goodbye Dr. Askew assured us that this was the most fair thing to do for her and gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. She did everything to make our Lucy as comfortable in her final moments as well. She and her staff genuinely do treat their patients as if they were their own. They are all such a blessing and I can't imagine anyone else taking care of our dogs.

Meet Ghost. My adorable, loving, BIG BABY of an Italian mastiff also known as a Cane Corso. He is just over a year old and 120lbs. He pees when he sees people because he’s so excited, and he loves his family with all his existence. He is loyal and he is kind. I am his owner and I take full credit and responsibility for raising a well behaved dog.Cortland Animal hospital has on more than one occasion gone out of their way to give unsolicited, unwanted, unnecessary and unforgiving advice, opinion and direction when it comes to how I raise Ghost and his breed—as if I’m completely clueless. Dr Jacobson was the first to inform me how aggressive his breed is, like I had no idea dogs of any breed could be aggressive, then there was the vet tech this morning *practically insinuating* that I’ll need to euthanize my dog in the future. I left the practice crying this morning.Ghost was getting his skin scraped last Thursday due to some allergies and the vet was behind him for the examination while the technician was in his face (good idea right?) Well, someone did something wrong, and it wasn’t Ghost. He lunged at the tech probably due to being uncomfortable or being touched the wrong way or feeling scared, etc. you can take your own guess what he was feeling. He nipped at the tech in the face, poor girl. Luckily it wasn’t anything serious at all**. It was simply a warning ⚠️ from Ghost saying he didn’t like whatever was going on and he was uncomfortable. The vet tech is fine, no conflicting injuries. As far as I’m concerned there was no blood drawn, and not even a bandaid needed. Ghost has been going to this vet since he was 3 months old and has no issues at all. He still had no issues as far as I’m concerned. If anyone is the issue, it’s the humans behind the practice who think they know my dog better than I do.I am employed in healthcare, and if there’s anything I’ve learned it’s that patients and their families know themselves better than we do. Take it from me.Ghost and I, along with our 2 other dogs are not tolerating discrimination anymore, and to answer your question to the vet tech who inspired my decision to leave NO, he’s not getting “castrated” NOR euthanized by YOU OR YOUR VET—Or by ANYONE. Just because he’s a big dog doesn’t mean you get to discriminate against him OR HIS BREED. Period. DO BETTER. LEARN FROM THIS.Ps. I would trust the safety of my son around Ghost before I would around you any day.

I called Cortland Animal hospital for an emergency appointment for my puppy because her vet could not see her right away. The staff was so friendly and helpful and got us in the same day. Dr. Nick was very informative about my puppy's care. If it weren't for the distance, I would be making this Vet our primary. Highly recommend Cortland Animal Hospital.

Cortland Animal Hospital has recently lost a significant amount of their staff and this has impacted their ability to care for their patients. I am editing my original review to show how much respect we had for Cortland in the past compared to now. They have been unable to provide services for months. Whenever I have called for an appointment they have said "we will have to call you back". They do not call back, I have had to call back weekly to receive the same response of "we will call you back". I personally do not believe that I should have to harass my vet to get an appointment. Aside from routine vet appointments, one of my pups has been sick for over two months. Cortland would not see her in person, they continued to test her fecal multiple times even after her fecal came back clear each time. I let them know she was losing weight and they still would not see her and instead had her switch food which was $70 for a 16 pound bag and said she needed to be on that for a month before running more test or seeing her in person. After taking her to another vet (who saw her a day after calling), we found out she has lost 16 pounds in 2 months including muscle loss. It is beyond unacceptable that my concerns were not taken seriously.Aside from for their inability to see my sick dog, they are also unable to provide annual services. Despite calling over a month in advance they respond with "we will have to call you back for an appointment". They insist they will call back by the end of the week. It's been over 3 weeks and they have not called back. Those who answer the phone are either rude or incompetent as they never seem to know what is going on.I truly hope that Cortland is able to hire adequate staff and be upfront with their patients if they are not able to provide services and refer their patients out to get the care they need.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This is by far one of the best Vets in the area. We have seen Dr. Askew, Dr. Ames, & Dr. Otto. Every single of them have been knowledgeable, honest, and upfront. They are always upfront about the cost of services, and do not seem to attempt to get you to pay for something your pupper does not need. They genuinely care about the animals in their care. They have been flexible when I needed an appointment ASAP. They have provided care for my dog & her puppies. They made sure as a breeder I had the access to services I needed. They have also been upfront when an emergency has occured and they need to move my appointment so I am not sitting there for hours. They are also super nice when I call with a million questions and have never made me feel stupid or like I was bothering them with my calls (even if I was haha). They go above and beyond when I have been there, including helping me to bring in my 11 puppies at a time. Or having me pay in the appointment room if there is a puppy in the lobby who may not be friendly with other dogs. They are always professional & respectful and put the needs of your animals 1st.They know how to prioritize their clients in a way that is not disrespectful towards other clients. Unfortunately, I have been there twice now when they have needed to euthanize an animal. They put a sign up with a fake candle and seem to provide all the care they can to both the animal and owner in their time of need. I honestly can not say enough good things about this Animal Hospital. I will continue to recommend them to anyone & everyone I know. This is not the kind of vet that will stress you or your pet out when you have to go see.Highlights:-Affordable pricing, upfront about pricing.-Friendly Vets, Vet Techs, Animal Care Assistants, Techs, Receptionists, & Cats :)-Knowledgeable-Flexible-Compassionate-Respectful-Honest-Genuinely care about your pets.Penelope & her 11 puppies love them & appreciate them.

I recently switched over to Cortland vet with Multiple animals. They have been extremely good about getting them all in and taken care of!!! Within the year I've had one puppy that unfortunately had a genetic problem and didn't make it. They were amazing thru the horrible time and were very caring about the situation. They have also saved my American Bully Bella and stayed well over 14 hrs to make sure she was taken care of. Everyone has their own experience but mine has been great!!!! Between 6 dogs I've seen all the doctors and all of them have been great with my furbabies!!!! And to the front desk staff, thank u!!! They are always so helpful and caring!!!

EDIT: They just want as much money out of you as they can get and if they don't like you or you can't afford their $2300+ surgeries in their time frame they just find more ways to get money out of you. They told me one of my cats had to be on this prescription food for the REST of his life, I pay over $100 a month for this diet and yet they need to SEE him last minute before they give him anymore food and I have only 3 cans left!! If the vet knew his annual was approaching why wasn't I warned? You wait til I have 3 cans to say no more til you find time to get in here.. what should he eat til then? They went on about how I cannot feed him any other food yet they won't give it to him til I pay MORE money to get him in there.. meanwhile I'm working 62 hours a week to afford this crazy surgery my OTHER cat needs! Don't tell me you CARE about my cat when you won't give him the food you told me he has to be on for the rest of his life until I have time to get him in there. Look around.. there's way better clinics in the area with nicer people.

So my cat was missing for more than a week and her chip was scanned today. Come to find out she had quite a bad week away from home. My wife dealed with the vet while I was at work. Once she was home I saw the care they had done to her and the paperwork explaining what she needed done. They did amazing care for her even gave her food that they recommended for her diet an explained certain things I didn't know about her diet. Only reason it's not a five star was some miscommunication on price but at the end of It everything was figured out.

The staff is always friendly. The vets always seem to care and they take their time to explain everything and give me choices. My 15 yr old cat has never been sick before. I took her in and they had a good idea of what the problem was, asked if I would consent to bloodwork, then came back witb a treatment plan within 30 minutes. She is doing much better now thanks to the staff at Cortland vet

-Incompetent & don’t listen to you or your concerns!I had 3 separate appointments with Cortland animal hospital since March of this year because my dog was limping around.-First time they told me to wait it out to see if it’ll go away on its own.-Second time they told me he needed to lose weight.-Third time they told me he was a 4 year old with arthritis & needed an X-ray done & they would call me with the results of the x-ray next week.I NEVER got a call back about the results.I made one appointment with Sandwich Vet Hospital this week & they performed a THOROUGH exam. Sandwich vet hospital informed me within 10 minutes that he needed an X-ray & THE RESULTS CONFIRMED MY DOG HAD A TORN CCL!!!Cortland animal hospital is incompetent & it clearly shows.

Well i brought my 15 months old dog in for her updated shots, etc, from a puppy, they said we need to take her in the back room its easier for them. Well first I've never had a vet clinic take my dog away from me ever for routine work and i'm 63 yrs old and had dogs all my life. Well she freaked out and they continued to keep going and tell me later what happened. Why oh why didnt they stop come and get me first. She didnt know what was going on and i was not there her support person. My dog from getting her at 6 weeks was socialized a lot, I've worked with her with many classes , we traveled every where with her , she loves our grandchildren, she went where ever we went. So now i will continue to desensitize her on this terrible experience and go somewhere else where they have a Fear Free Clinic , that the whole clinic is trained and show more compassion and work with there clients.

Staff can't remember that we have canceled our appointments calls and texts and we no longer want to bring our animals due to the fear that days later we may be charged more money if they "FORGET TO CHARGE YOU" I didn't know I could call my customers days later and be like ooo by the way you owe me more money because I forgot to charge you but we did end up paying the money they asked for and then told them to cancel all appoints . If I can't trust you to keep appointment times or have doctors there when u say or at bare minimum charge me 1 time then I can't trust you to perform surgery on my dogs and for that 51 dollars I will be taking my animals elsewhere. Now please stop calling and texting our phones

I had been there previously in 2020. The vets were great back then. Yesterday was totally different experience. My older cat was sick and getting worse, and we refused to put un nessary money in to older animals. I called the office Monday to let them know we are choosing to put my cat down. I watch my cat getting worse for a week. He was hiding no longer would come when you called him. He was barely eating and would not peering when we loved on him. We were holding out until Friday. Just a few hours before the appointment a rude lady called me to tell me the vet was refusing to put my cat down. I found another vet that was willing to give us a 2nd appointment that day, and agreed putting him to sleep was the best things for him. They were so kind and understanding. I called back to cancel my Dogs vets visit I found a vet that's better for us and my pets. We are never going back to this vet again.

Your first impression of an office, is who answers the phone. There is one extremely rude, blunt, unapologetic receptionist that works there. She has worked there, since I've taken my dog there for the past 3 years. I only continue coming back, cuz my dog has grown comfortable with the office. She's the older lady and doesn't give out her name. Every single time my dog needs to come in, I dread talking to her. Her poor behavior with patients is unbelievable and she shouldn't be allowed to continue with her rude attitude. The rest of the staff are wonderful. 2022 update, my dog went in for his yearly exam. I didn't see the rude receptionist, nor did she answer the phone, when I made the appt.

I had just put my dog to rest just shy of a week ago, the staff made this experience absolutely terrible. They continuously made snarky comments, and while we were kissing our dog goodbye we were told “you need to pull your mask up” which was unnecessary considering the mask mandate has been lifted but we obliged for the sake of being kicked out of our dogs passing. during the process of pushing the sedative through the catheter we were told we would be given a heads up before the euthanizing substance would be pushed which we didn’t we got a simple “okay she’s gone” with no heads up of the substance being pushed, after she took her last breath one of the two techs left without saying anything and slamming the door on her way out, the staff was extremely rude and extremely unprofessional and i hope the next people having to go through this have a better experience because ours was absolutely terrible.

Dr. Askew, and Dr. Otto are the kindest vets I have ever met. They have a very comforting nature and explain situations in a way that are easy to understand in a very calm manner. The vet techs, especially Liz, has always treated our pets as if they were her own. I am grateful for this facility and their care they have provided our dogs over the past 11 years.

A wonderful and caring staff. My mom's car has suffered multiple rounds of crystals in his bladder and they took wonderful care of him. Not to mention the in-office cats are just as sweet and polite as their vet. Even on short notice!

I understand that there is a backup for appointments. I scheduled mine in December from October of last year. They canceled and then I rescheduled for today May 11th. I waited in my car for forty minutes after calling to check in for a two twenty appointment. Then two hours later called that he was ready and then to come to the front door once I called and was told to do this I waited for fifteen minutes and nothing. So I entered the front door got yelled at that it was closed while someone was in the waiting room with their dog, and my credit card was not working to call them and then walk them through... they got my number wrong. This was a horrible experience from beginning to end I won’t even get into how the vet tries to push a certain brand of dog food.... I loved this hospital before covid never going back.

I’ve been taking my dog here for many years. The staff is a hit or miss. Sometimes they’re extremely nice, other times they’re not. I don’t take anything personally. They’ve been nothing but helpful to my dog and I wouldn’t take her anywhere else! Thank you for everything, Cortland Animal Hospital!

My dog gets excited to see the vet. Every pet I've ever had has been scared. So either I have a great dog or a great vet. I lean towards a great vet.Everyone there seems caring. Prices are not crazy. It's clean and they take care of you promptly.

This place used to be great. Unfortunately they have decided making money is more important than your pet’s wellbeing. They refuse to refill prescriptions without extensive and ridiculously expensive tests that were already performed before they gave you the initial prescription. Everything has an added expense. They still end up guessing what’s wrong with your pet when even google has more information. You basically end up telling them what you need anyway! I can only recommend them for euthanizing your pet but they probably make you pay for multiple expensive tests for that too!

So disappointed. Went here on recommendation of a friend and in order to save a few dollars. At first everything was fine--nice veterinarian, prescription filled without any problems. However, when I attempted to get a refill, I was told that I needed to bring my dog back in for a blood test--something I never had to do with my previous vet. I was told that the test would cost $113, and they also started to talk about how a six month follow up visit would then be required.Rather than a caring veterinary office, I felt like I was dealing with a car salesman trying to add on all the extra's they could. I walked away. Went back to my old vet--they might charge a few dollars more for a visit, but at least they don't try to spring any unneeded charges on me.

If I could give no stars I would. I never even made it to the office. I called 2 times. First time it seemed as though I was bothering her and she had no time for me. I gave my number she said she would have to call back. The whole day went by before I even got a phone call back. The second time I called I wanted to get some information about services and pricing. And right away I was told they weren't accepting any other clients. Very rude unprofessional.

So kind, caring and affordable. We have had some wonderful times (when we adopted our new kittens and puppies) and some sad times (when we've had to put them down and say good-bye for now) Always, always..... The loving and caring team at Cortland Animal Hospital has been there to guide us through these times. Very loving, knowledgeable and compassionate care is always given to our furry family members. Thank you for being who you are and being honest and caring Vets. Respectfully, The DeVito's
