Wonderful easy process . Techs really know the dogs so let them help you and be open minded . Adoption staff was so accommodating and really care . We adopted from KY and they bent over backwards to help us . Really great shelter - clean and well run

Absolutely do not go here. They do ZERO for feline leukemia. I can't express how negligent they are with their adoption "process." If I could score this review lower than 1 star I would as 1 is way to deserving. Stay away!

Do not Surrender your dog back here if you have adopted from them. They will euthanize your dog as soon as they have a chance. I suggest going to another Shelter that is more humane

My dog was there for almost 30 days after they picked him up, he is chipped and had his collar (with my name number and address) I never received a call and only found out because they posted him trying to get him adopted saying we ABANDONED him, he was wearing his collar in the photo and they never checked for a chip and were going to rechip him. then tried to charge us hundreds of dollars for keeping my dog without trying to contact us. if I could give zero stars I would.

So, reading the reviews it sounds like a lot of bad experiences here. I’m from south of Springfield and saw a plea for an older dog there with Heartworm. So we contacted a couple people and went over to meet him with one of our dogs. They got along and we took him right away. He was dirty but otherwise healthy and had been there a LONG time. I didn’t have a bad experience there, I think mainly because there was someone here in Springfield that was a go-between with their own rescue group. I wish people would be more persistent with adopting their animals from there. No matter how the people are, it’s the animals that need our help. Maybe if you see an animal you like there, go through a rescue that can pull them for you. I’m glad we did. No matter what’s wrong with our guy, he’s a great dog and deserved getting outta there.

This place is awful! We had an appointment to see a pup and when we arrived were told he was given away from U of I following being neutered! We were not contacted to tell us the pup was gone, we discovered it when we arrived. We were excited about getting a new pup and had made all the arrangements and purchased all he needed to become a part of our family. Done with rescue NOT DEPENDABLE!

I've been taking my pets here since moving here from Rockford 9 years ago & I'm so glad I found them as they're a lot cheaper than most vet's, amazing with my cats and do a great job overall. I seriously wouldn't want to ever have to go somewhere else honestly. They've basically become part of the family and now they're stuck with us forever. 🤣 Thank you so much ffrom the bottom of our hearts Vermillion County Animal Shelter. 😊💛 😸

If there was no stars they'd be getting it . These people dont clean there facility at all. And all 4 of my pitbull puppies are are damn near dead from some flu / kennel caugh that none of them had b4 spending the weekend in this dump.

My wife and I came here to save one dog from certain death. Amos is a good dog but he was in bad condition when we picked him up. After seeing our vet yesterday I think he is going to recover but it's going to take months. The shelter was clean and the staff were friendly.

I adopted Jacob from here and we couldn't be happier. I would much rather get a dog from here who needs a home then to buy one somewhere else. He's been an awesome addition to the family :-)

Communication is a ZERO!! They will not tell you nothing on the phone. They say go online so I do to help my dad which is almost 80 because he tried to call but they said you will find information online. Well he is 80 and doesn't do online computer stuff. Very confusing so we will not be using this place in tilton .

Great atmosphere. Adorable dogs and cats for adoption. Don't forget to donate employees and volunteers work hard to keep the pets clean and happy. I have adopted from the shelter and my pets are the best side kicks, more then I can ask for.

I had to pay to get my own dog back after 3 days...the money i spent was bill money but thats over and done with now. The lady in the front was rude and I believe prejudice. The other workers were pretty nice. There were 2 particular people that were extremely nice to me and I thank God for them. I had a very bad experience with the lady at the front desk and hope I never have to go there as long as she's there. I don't want to go into details but I was in tears. I called the police and he followed me around like I wanted to harm someone. I don't believe in violence, weapons or war but guess since I am black I was a threat.

I adopted my cat, Piper (formerly Annie) from here and the staff was absolutely fantastic. Remmington was so remarkably friendly and let me visit with so many cats before I spent another two hours visiting the feline I wanted to take home. Piper is affectionate and was well-taken care of there. I'm so glad I found her and that this shelter found her for me. The adoption process was pretty short--by the time I got all of my references and vet contact info done, it took them only a day and a half to let me know I was approved. Pro tip, if you're adopting, make sure you have a good reference, your veterinarian, and your landlord's information handy.

Drove an hour and a half to meet a puppy they had. They told my wife to be prepared to stay an hour for the meet and greet since we have a German Shepard who is a year old. Upon arrival we went inside and our German Shepard went up and smelled the pup and the pup was smelling him then the young man that had the pup on the leash pulled the pup away and my German barked and as soon a he did that the guy said I don’t think this is going to be a good fit we were in there for a total of 5 minutes not even close to an hour. The young man didn’t even let us pet the dog had the leash wound up around his wrist and the dog could only move away from him maybe a foot. It really wasn’t fair to the puppy or us we didn’t even get a fair chance with the pup the guy had his mind made up as soon as our German barked. We have an acre of land with a gps fence and a 4,000 square foot home don’t really know how it can get much better than that. Good luck to anyone who wants to help a pup or any animal they have their standards impossible to meet. And good luck to the pup we tried our best and would be the best home for ya.Cyrus

Why bother to fill out an application when you don't know if the dog is what you want. I filled out application, someone called my references and was told I take better care of my dogs than most people do their kids. But the vet I listed had only given them their shots and not treated them for the ailments that ultimately killed them. So because I didnt have a consistent shot record I wasnt a good pet owner. Also have 2 outside cats someone dumped, that I feed and provide shelter for but dont have vaccinated, the lady told me she would be reporting me to my county. You are a kill shelter and I want to give a dog a good home I'm denied because you can call 4 other people but dont ask me any questions. Place is a joke

We got a loving, playful, smart, funny & sweet cat 9.5 years ago. He's having trouble breathing now. If it's his time, our ❤ ❤ will surely break. But we'll get another here if available. He's been a joy and comfort to us. The staff at that time were wonderful.

I went here 2 years ago to adopt a companion for my 1 year old female kitty. I told them about her and the pointed out a beautiful tuxedo female kitty 11 months old. We adopted her and she was a perfect fit to complete my family.

I had no intention of finding or getting a dog when I went. But I found the cutest puppy she had only been there for about 2wks and was just 8months old. Very loving and played well with the kids. Had to take her home. She has been the best addition to my family. CamiLe is a Irish wolfhound mix love her and glad i found her.
