I'm a first-time shopper at this thrift store and pet rescue! I entered and heard dogs barking and was curious and intrigued at the concept of helping animals in need. It is a very large thrift store and jam-packed with all kinds of items. The picture section was one of the largest I have seen in a thrift store. They also had some unique antique and vintage items mixed in the newer and more everyday thrift store items.I did get to see the dogs, and the area was clean and smelled fresh. There was a new arrival dog in a kennel who looked comfortable and relaxed. (See photo) They even had a cat sitting room, which looked clean and pet friendly. They had a lot of nice items and clothes. We ended up buying a bunch of items, and the lady at the cash register was really nice!Spend some time there looking high and low because things can be buried or tucked back in shelves.

We got our furry baby girl, Mia, from this great organization. We’ve had her one day and she’s already a part of our family. We adore her! Bridget was fabulous and gave us all the information needed to get Mia started with her new life. Thank you!

I adopted two kitties from On Angels Wings. They always get back to me as soon as possible. It is a small shelter but they care deeply for the animals there. I am waiting to get another kitty from On Angels Wings and wouldn't go anywhere else. They are amazing local shelter in Crystal Lake.

We adopted our sweet Hippo from On Angel’s Wings in March 2018. The adoption experience was simple and easy, and I was glad that they are so thorough (but also quick!) to ensure the animals are going to a good home. They called our references while we waited and cuddled with our pup. All the puppies from this litter were so well taken care of, they had been born in a foster home as they rescued the pregnant mother. The foster mother (human) was there to answer questions about the different puppies’ personalities and clearly had cared for them so well. The conditions in the building were very clean and organized, there were several volunteers there helping. This rescue is also a resale shop/thrift store, and all the proceeds go towards supporting the animals. Excellent business, with so much heart and soul being put into it. The animals rescued here are so lucky. 💜

Best of both worlds; shopping and animals under one roof! The staff and volunteers are very compassionate about saving and helping furry friends in need, finding them their forever loving homes!

On Angels Wings has some of the friendliest staff I’ve encountered at a pet rescue. It was very clean and the animals all looked happy and well taken care of. I highly recommend using them the next time you are looking to rescue. I know I’m going to.

Found my girl in 2015. She's still with us of course, and the best thing that ever happened to our family. Couldn't say enough positive about this rescue. Will be forever grateful.

Best of both worlds. I can downsize by donating my unwanted items to the thrift store and the funds help animals in need. This makes it easier for me to let material items go.The staff is great and the volunteers are amazing. I personally couldn't do retail. The thought of dealing with rude, self-entitled individuals would drive me bonkers. I love the idea of placing dogs and cats in foster homes while they wait for their forever home. The foster parents give so much to help these animals; love, patients, and understanding.I have been to On Angels Wings on many occasions. The individuals providing service were polite to me. I felt bad because you could tell they were extremely busy taking care of the animals. They were honest, you never know an animal's true history. They're not in a rush to place an animal in any home, they want to find the best home. This could make an individual upset but it's what's best for the animal. The area where the animals are has always been clean. They care about the health of the animals by making sure all individuals sanitize their hands before touching the animals.I have adopted two dogs from On Angels Wings. Both of my dogs are healthy and well loved. Big thanks to their foster parents. I love being able to stay in touch with the families who have adopted my furbaby's siblings. We all share pics and have play dates. My oldest daughter adopted her emotional support dog from On Angels Wings and it's pure love between the two of them.I would recommend going there for yourself and check it out. I did and I love it.

My mom and I foster kittens here!! I'm so glad for the opportunity to care for such sweet babies, and I always feel so supported by the rescue! As a young person going into animal care it's truly an educational and heartwarming experience!! We've taken on several of the surrendered litters with ringworm, and it's been so wonderful and fascinating watching them get better and all perfect, soft, and fluffy again!! It feels like there are always kittens in the walk-in kitten room ready to snuggle or play, and even the ones we didn't foster are just darling (not that I'm biased towards my babies, heh)! Come in to adopt or just to visit, I'm sure it will be a wonderful experience for everyone!!

My kids and I love this place!! We adopted a wonderful puppy from there last Nov and continue to stop by to say hi to everyone there and visit with the pups. The workers and volunteers are amazing for all they do for all kinds of animals they take in there. I love donating towels, treats and food there when I can. We are fortunate to have this place in our town for the animals and fortunate for all the people who spend their time and energy there working with rescued animals to help save lives.

Wednesday morning visit. Fell in love with a pair of Poms that were listed as 4 year old brother and sister. Bonded pair? Yes. Siblings from the same litter? No. But that’s fine, we don’t mind a plus one, and they seemed to be well behaved, which is usually an indicator of maturity.Since they had to go together we were told there would be a deal. Nope. They wanted full price for the pair.Side note:There are fist size matted hairballs that I’m sure will require some professional intervention; I priced it and know it’s going to be around $200 for grooming. This is where that deal we were originally offered would’ve come in handy. But again, no worries. Long as they are healthy, we are happy to bring them home. Now,On Wednesday evening when the family visited we were told we were approved and that it would be Friday or Saturday before they were ready because they had an appointment with the vet on Thursday. This morning (Thursday) my husband gets a call asking what time we would be picking them up Friday. My husband asks about the vet visit we were told was to happen. He was told “Well, it’s a mobile vet service and they were checked by a vet before they were turned over.” We understand that, but we were told they’ve been in a boarding kennel prior to being surrendered and are now in a room with 6-8 other dogs. Is it wrong that we need to be sure they haven’t picked up anything during their stay with you? We were also hoping the vet would have a more realistic age estimate as well; we explained to the staff that out 14 year old fur baby had just passed and I wasn’t capable of putting the family through that again anytime soon. We don’t mind older dogs, but if there are underlying health issues that or something that may be terminal, we need to know before making a decision.Well apparently that was too many questions. Our adoption application was just denied because we “asked too many questions”.Rather than be thankful that we are thorough and responsible pup parents, we were scolded for asking questions before making a commitment. The most frustrating thing to me is that throughout, it has been clear that there is little to no communication between employees. Errors in message relay between staff, misinformation received from different staff members, and the attitude of “there are more people that want these dogs” (when we were told there were no apps on them since they arrived two weeks ago) have soured me on this process completely.I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and pray that those sweet babies find a home soon.

This by far is the best shelter I've had the experience of volunteering for. The staff and other volunteers that go there are amazing and kind-hearted. It makes you feel like a small family that have the same thing in common to help save animals. I rescued my two twinn black beauties from here and I don't know where my life would be if I didn't volunteer their and meet them.

We adopted a kitten and were charged $130. During visitation we noticed matting on the ear and foot and questioned it to staff. We were told probably from the kennel and playing with other kittens while play fighting. We brought her home and within the first few days noticed her sneezing and discharge from her nose. Took her to our vet only to find out she had ringworm on her ear and foot (which later realized my kids have it as well as my dog on their bodies from touching her), an upper respiratory infection, and ear mites. Spent another $180 on medications for her alone. Then also had to get medication for my children, and other dog. They wrote she was seen by a vet with a clean bill of health on her paperwork, and claimed to adopt healthy animals but that is not the case. My co-worker also adopted two kittens from here and she said she also had to pay money within the first week for medication because her kittens were sick and also had ringworm. If at all costs avoid this place. They lie and they probably never have these animals examined! My vet said there is no way a vet would’ve missed this extensive ringworm issue plus the amount of ear mites she had! I did reach out to the owners, but basically got a sorry. Escalated it with an email and copies of all my records from our vet and sent to my attorney and they still have yet to respond. I did a review on their Facebook page where they promote most of their sales, which was similar to this review and was immediately blocked from the page. STAY AWAY!

This is by far the best rescue I've seen. My daughter and I started volunteering here in October and love it. Each and every animal who comes through those doors gets checked by a vet. They don't always know what the animal is coming in with seeing that most are coming from over populated kill shelters but they definitely do their best getting them checked, vaccinated and fixed. For those who say all the dogs have kennel cough, this is simply not true. Any animals who need isolation are kept away from the healthy ones. The room where these dogs are kept is cleaned all the time. I know this because I've done it.This is an amazing rescue that truly cares for the animals. The owners poor their heart and soul into this business. I'm proud to be a volunteer and foster.

We have adopted there which was wonderful. Angels Wings it's a great place to adopt a pet from, they take such great care of all the animals. The staff is very helpful with adoptions, donations, and if you're looking for something when you're shopping. Angel's wings is a wonderful place!

I volunteer here and the animals are loved and cared for to the best of our abilities. I have rescued 2 dogs from different places and would never go back. This place I would. I see beauty in the hearts of these people. I also foster and have never had an issue getting what I need for my fosters.

On Angels Wings Rescue is amazing! I have currently adopted 3 kittens from them. One of the most important things I noticed is that they do a thorough check of potential adoptees! The animals are their number one priority! They have even expanded their rescue area so the animals could have more room. The dogs are walked every few hours to not only eliminate but to get exercise! They even have cuddlers that come in when the animals get fixed so they are loved and comfortable while coming out of surgery!

Don’t adopt a pet from this shelter unless you want to break your children’s hearts. My family has been searching for a pet to adopt for several months. Last week my husband found a picture of a puppy, named Shadow, at On Angel’s Wings. We filled out the application on Saturday and were approved later the same day. We met Shadow the following day (Sunday) with our three daughters. We loved the puppy but of course needed to discuss it as a family since it's a big decision. We decided by Sunday evening that we were interested in adopting Shadow. I called that evening (around 8pm) and left a voice message saying that we were interested. I never got a return call. I tried calling on Monday and got in touch with Lori, but the call was dropped. I tried calling back but only got the voicemail so I left another message. I called again the following afternoon (Tuesday) only to be told by Lori that they had moved on to other applicants. I verbally expressed to Lori again that we were interested in adopting Shadow and tried to get an explanation but once again her phone disconnected and the call dropped. I tried calling again but once again had to leave a message.I emailed the director of the shelter, Emily, asking for an explanation. She said that their phones were having issues and they were working on getting them fixed (fine, but why weren’t they trying to call back?). The excuse she gave me regarding Shadow was that they decided that Shadow would be better off in a house without children. I find this excuse hard to swallow because her bio specifically says that she is good with kids ( it still does the last time I checked and if they ever change this, I have screenshots to prove it) and when we met her, she was very friendly and affectionate with our three children. I replied with these observations and asked them to reconsider because we feel that we could give her a loving home. When I didn’t get a response, I tried to appeal again, but as of today, they haven’t responded, which I find very unprofessional. If they had other applicants, why were they so eager to approve us right away the same day we submitted the application? If they felt that Shadow was better suited to an all-adult household, why would they approve an application for a family with children and allow us to meet her? My three children are all devastated and keep asking me why we can’t have Shadow. They don’t want another puppy and it’s soured our opinion of the whole shelter adoption process in general.Bottom line, adopting a pet is probably great, but save yourself some grief and heartache and avoid adopting from On Angel’s Wings.Edit: They also don't like negative reviews. Less than a day after this review, I'm no longer able to reply to posts on their Facebook page. Hmmm, it's as though they're afraid of people telling about their negative experiences.Edit #2: They REALLY don't like negative reviews. I received an email this morning from Jeannette, the executive director, asking me to take down this review. When I declined, citing my belief that others should be aware of our experience and make an informed choice, her response was this:" We're sorry you had a bad experience. Ours was likewise.I guess this makes it ok for us to share with other rescues/shelters why you were rejected for adopting that particular pet (so that they can make an informed decision as to whether or not to adopt to you). I'm tired of people like you who try to make life miserable for others. Fortunately, you are few and far between! "So threats and blackmail seem to be how they keep rejected applicants in line! That just tells me that there's a really good chance that there are more stories out there similar to mine.

I think the animal shelter is a wonderful idea, I gathered up donations, went out and bought some with my own money, went to drop them off. This was my second time going here and I was directed to a back room full of items to put the bags down. The room was full of items that the thrift shop sells. The ladies in the room next door didn't seem to acknowledge me at first but just told me to put them on the floor. So now i'm left to wonder, did my donations go towards the animals or for their thrift shop? Won't be donating here anymore...

I have been a volunteer her for about 8-9 months and love OAW. They rescue dogs and cats from all over that have been in all types of situations and find them forever homes. My husband and I recently adopted our first dog from OAW's and they were wonderful with his vet care. Bravo OAW's for the love you have for animals and providing them with another chance. The staff is amazing!! I'm honored to volunteer and be apart of a great rescue with a great cause.

The staff at On Angel's Wings do such amazing work. The animals are well cared for, the fosters do an amazing job, and they truly make sure each animal goes to the right home. They have high standards to determine the best home for each animal, and the vets they use for their medical care are top notch.

These people are God's angels I know. They took a foster black lab I had for 1 1/2 years. She was totally blind and overweight because she couldn't run around and get good exercise. They took Maya in and put her in water therapy and totally exercised her every day with wonderful people. I could not do that for her, only because I didn't have available those things or the financial help. Maya is one of the sweetest most loving dogs I have ever fostered in ten years or even owned really. She's simply amazing. Maya has her forever family. She had a medical set back, but she is such a fighter and has overcome so much in her short life. Everyone just falls in love with her. She lost her first human Mom to lung cancer. Maya had a stroke at the age of 4 that caused her to lose her sight. I can't praise the people at On Angels Wings nearly enough for the care and love they give to these furbabies who are in such need.

I not only volunteer here but I have adopted 2 wonderful cats from here. Everyone puts their hearts and souls into caring for the animals. I have seen first hand how many furry lives this place has saved...not just by rescuing and adopting animals into furever homes, but also spending time and MONEY on expensive surgeries and other medical care necessary to help ailing animals. I'm proud to be part of the team and consider myself lucky to have found my furry family! :)

If you a woman there is lots of clothing, but men won't find much at all. Jewelry and home decor is average. You better like dogs as there are times when barking is very loud depending on how many and the breed in the rescue cages. I love dogs but it even get to me at times.

I’m a very young thrifter, 17, and visiting this place a couple days ago had to be the best day of my entire life.I’ve been to many many thrift stores in our area, and this is the best one i’ve ever been to I have to say. The items are amazing, right as i walk in i’m picking up things. The prices are even better than the items themselves and many things are priced way less than they would be even at goodwill. Only downside is the lack of men’s clothing but the insanely unique women’s pieces you’ll find will make up for it. the staff is sooo nice i was seriously shocked. they were complimenting my finds and my outfit, just made my day completely. the icing on the cake was definitely the coupon book and map to all the other small business thrift stores in the area. I will definitely be coming here everytime i’m in the area instead of savers, and i highly highly recommend to any other teen thrifters
