My husband surprised me and brought home a Siberian husky puppy, 2 months old, from this shop. It was a Friday afternoon. When I met the puppy, he seemed odd. He was lethargic, sad, depressed, wouldn’t stand up, kept vomiting, had diarrhea, had green mucus coming out of his nose, and was not active at all. My husband and I thought it was due to new environment but the next morning it got worse. We then got worried and decided to call the vet place the pet shop works with, to have him get checked out. They said they only had an appointment for Tuesday, even though we explained that the puppy seemed very ill and didn’t want to eat or drink anything. Its Saturday night and the puppy seemed to get worse. We decided to take him to a 24-hour emergency pet hospital. We have learned that the puppy has moderate to severe pneumonia. He also had a fever of 105. The vet told us that the puppy needs immediate hospitalization to provide him with injectable antibiotics and supportive care. We contacted the store owner, he was very rude and made it clear to us that he will not be reimbursing any of the puppy expenses. The puppy was hospitalized for three days and hasn’t been showing any type of improvement. He has only been getting worse each day. The vet recommended we euthanize the puppy because he was not showing any improvement and was only suffering in pain. The vet also confirmed that this puppy has been sick for some time prior to us purchasing him. I would rate this pet shop negative stars if I was able too. I would never recommend anyone buying any animal from this place. I regret not reading this pet store reviews before purchasing a puppy. I have read many reviews from this place and they are very true! I’ve experienced similar problems. This place will sell you sick animals then refuse to help with the expenses.

I had a positive experience here. I wanted a mini schnauzer and the other pet stores we upwards of $5000. I tried breeders but they were scammers and had wait lists until 2022. Although the reviews for here weren’t the best I took a chance. When I saw my puppy I knew I wanted her, the staff took her out and were helpful with the process. They did seem a little standoffish but...whatever. I made conversation and they were fine. One of the young ladies explained the financing process and that went smooth. I got my puppy’s DNA tested she’s 100% mini schnauzer with 0 health issues according to her DNA health report. Although she’s a sheer terror, I wouldn’t trade her she’s the sweetest dog ever. I do wish the dogs were in larger cages because they just look so sad in there. But Velvet is happy here and all is well.

I went into the shop last weekend and fell in love with a dachshund they had. They said he had runny poop so they didn’t let me buy him right then, but suggested I follow up with them during the week. My husband kept contact with the owner, Don, and he said he would take the dog to the vet. A day later, Don claimed he did and he would be good to go Friday, but would only hold him until 4pm. Friday comes, I leave work early to make it on time; get to the shop by 3:25pm and inquire about paperwork that he was okay. They couldn’t provide me with anything and I wasn’t allowed to call the vet either. We decided we would risk it anyways and take him to our own vet. As we were walking to the “viewing area”, the owner calls both girls there to tell them “someone put a deposit down for him.” My daughter is crying because of this dishonest man. Don’t buy from these people. As upset as I am, I guess it’s better that we didn’t buy a sick dog that he clearly didn’t get checked out. Real piece of work.

Last weekend came in to take a look and found an adorable little dachshund. We told them we were interested but unfortunately he had watery stool. So we called during the week and had made multiple calls to confirm he was better and he would be available. Don said he would take him to the vet and we could pick him up today. I called yesterday and asked to hild him until 4 and he agreed. When we show up we ask about the vet paperwork they said they have none. He then told the girls to lie to us that he sold the dog. My wife called him directly and he said that he wouldn't sell because we questioned him about the dogs health. Seems suspicious that when we look into the dog to make sure we don't get a dying pup he suddenly stops it.

My first dog I got was a husky from here and he was healthy and very friendly. That is why I picked this place again to look for a puppy. I recently got a Cocker Spaniel and he’s a most loving friendly puppy and my kids love him. The owners are so helpful and great. They let’s us play with the different puppies answered any questions. Very nice owners I definitely support them.

I’ve seen this place in my neighborhood for as long as I lived here, but the conditions the animals live here have always been the same. Horrible small spaces with old bedding and with a cinder block in the pen. I know all animals deserve a home but the conditions these puppies are living in is terrible. Not to mention the tiny dogs in outrageously small cages.I recommend to anyone who is looking for puppies to visit the AKC website and find a breeder. We adopted our St. Bernard puppy from a loving family who raised the puppies in a farm in Indiana. Puppies deserve to have free moving space and be able to socialize with the other puppies. When it comes to pricing we got our pup for 1,200 where this place here would sell her for 3,000+. Save yourself the trip, money, and vet bills.

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Neither of the hamsters had hides, or means to burrow. The parakeets had no chew toys or items to gnaw on, their water was filled with muck and garbage. The puppy pens In the separate room contained large amounts of wood shaving bedding. Which has been known to cause respiratory problems and choking. Plenty of the dog’s noses were completely covered in the shavings. Blocking the nasal cavity. Their mouths were covered as well. The puppy keeping along the walls was absolutely dreadful. All of the water keepers appeared empty, when we asked about it they said they were just filled, however there was not a single with drip feedback. We only saw two dogs-out of every single one-with food, when asked about this, they simply replied ‘they have water’, and ignored the question. The store temperature was a measly 68 degrees Fahrenheit. For the amount of reptiles they stored in the shop, I would say that the temperature was quite low. Adding up that none of the reptiles had adequate heating lamps, That’s really not a safe idea.Three out of twelve betas were dead. The containers that the fish were kept in were grossly unclean. It isn’t that hard to fix most of these issues. When addressed they gave off a very aggressive attitude. They chose to ignore what we said.

We have had our puppy for exactly one month now and we couldn't be happier! We went in just to look and came out with a 8 week old siberian/retriever! We love her! The staff was friendly and nice and answered all our questions! Puppy is happy & healthy in our home!

My wife and I randomly stopped in the Pet Luv store located at 8057 S. Cicero Ave. on Thursday Dec. 19th around 3pm... Upon arrival there were 2 young girls behind the counter which said hello to us. We made our way to the dog area where we saw multiple dogs that were aggressively pawing at their food/water bowls. My wife made a statement to the workers that the dogs are probably hungry/thirsty where she got no response from the workers. We asked if they could bring out a female Boston Terrier and before letting us even interact with the puppy she told us we would only see her if we plan on taking her home that day. My wife said we wanted to interact with her before anything and the worker just went back behind the counter to continue what she was doing on her phone. After stating our disappointment she goes ahead rolling her eyes at my wife and told us to “Have a nice day” in a rude tone. She asked for the managers card (which his name is Alex) and we left the establishment. Personally, to see the way that these poor animals and in their dirty cages, no water/food and laying next to their own feces is very disappointing. How can a “pet store” operate when the management and staff seem to not have a heart or a passion for animals. This is coming from someone that is not that passionate about animals, however, my wife IS one of those people... huge animal lover, rescuer and her overall compassion is beyond what the normal person possesses. This place deserves no stars, employees need to be thought customer service and how to talk to other humans and maybe hire people that really care about the well being of animals. Bottom line, this place doesn’t deserve to even be considered when looking at any animals. I genuinely feel bad for the animals that have to deal with the incompetent people that tend to them. Very very disappointing.

Horrible experience! My son and I waited awhile to view puppy’s and the young in this place basically ignored us. I started to get the feeling they were profiling me and my child because soon as another family walked in, they were serviced before us. I proceeded to ask the young woman can my son view a puppy and she told me “ you can only see them if you’re looking to buy” I asked her “who said I couldn’t buy them???... she didn’t say that to the other family.. All awhile there was a woman and child in the back “playing with puppies” since we got here. My 8 YEAR OLDS feelings were hurt as I told him we weren’t going to be helped so we had to leave. Basically we were profiled and my experience says the staff were racist. Never will I spend a dime of my hard earned money in an establishment that treats people this way. I was literally hurt for my child who left without a dog...

It’s sad to know this place is still running. The people that work there are rude. The Poor dogs usually have empty bowls and their TINY cage spaces are messy. The poor dogs are stepping all in their poop and you aren’t allowed to interact with a puppy before deciding which one you want unless you are 100% going to buy the one you interact with. The place is so depressing to go Into. I just feel so bad for all the animals in there, they aren’t getting the care and love they deserve.

I was sold a dog harness and I asked if it doesn’t fit can I return it. Employee said yes. Came back five minutes later because it didn’t fit my dog and also the latch on it was cheap and would not open. Employee claims she never told me I could return it and very rude manager comes in to point to a sign that says all sales are final. She said return means exchange, not refund. So even though her employee misled me and the product was defective she would not refund me. She had the worst attitude I ever seen. The store is nasty and the manager is worse!

Most puppies were too big and way too many teddy bear puppies. NO KITTIES WHATSOEVER!! 1 Mastiff, 1 German shepherd, 1 Golden Retriever and the rest small fuzzy dogs. Staff was inattentive but still had a pleasant demeanor. Store seemed to have too much big stuff in the way. Oh...they had plenty of sleeping hamsters!

Horrible place.Terrible conditions for these sad little pups. They are unclean. Sitting in there own feces.Eating there own feces. They have no food or fresh water. These employees should all be terminated. They should be ashamed of themselves for having these sweet puppies living in these conditions. Pitiful!! They need to be reported for animal cruelty. They should go thru a state survey just like nursing homes. They would be shut down immediately. I am so disappointed that people like this exist. Disgusting humans taking care a sweet animals. It's uncalled for. And YOU people call this place Pet Luv. You are ungodly creatures.

I had purchased 2 Siberian husky puppies from there over the years both got sick not too long after I had them. I also looked at the papers of where my pups came from and they came from an owner that did not take care of them or the parents and the poor dogs lived in filth. I do not recommend getting animals from this place as the animals come from mills or places they aren't taken care of and can be sick.

We took out 2 puppy's to see and the Siberian Husky had feces all over his back.. he was very lethargic, would not stand up at all & had a very dry mouth. The second dog was a "2 month old" Rottweiler which seemed to be older but VERY underweight & ribs were sticking out! this pup couldn't even keep his bottom legs beneath him without falling over and was shaking any time he stood on all 4s...again was very lethargic but was told "he was taken out a lot that day & he was probably tired & sad because his brother was just purchased the same day." There was only 1 puppy in the entire store that seemed to have energy. This place needs to be shut down 100% you could just tell how terrible these dogs are being treated.

Horrible place, sold me a puppy requiring 2 surgeries, $6000. Refused to help with cost and suggested I return her for another. I couldn't return her and let them put her down, I took out a loan and now she's fine, these people are heartless and crooks, after all this I missed a finance payment to them because the puppy they sold me need these 2 surgeries, they doubled what I owed, I'm still fighting with them a year later. Don't let them break your heart and bank!!!!!

I’d give them negative stars if I could. I’ve gone twice in the last week and both times they were completely closed 20 minutes before closing time. Not to mention the conditions their animals are kept in. They clearly get their dogs from puppy mills since they’re all the same few pure breeds. None of the animals have food or water ever. Just horrible place that needs to be shut down.

If I could give negative stars I would. The lady's there are so rude, could care less about the dogs there. This place is called "pet luv" yet we weren't allowed to pet any dogs. How do they expect people to fall in love and take them home!? PLUS there was poop stuck on their bowl and the employees were just sitting/standing there with "nothing to do" couldn't even greet us or try to make a sale, no smiles no positive energy. They look miserable for people that work with cute puppies! Can only imagine how they neglect these poor dogs.

We purchased an Akita from them with the initial free visit. They discovered a hernia that had been repaired. The puppy was slow in his growth and by the 6th month we noticed obvious deformity to his hind legs and hips. By the time our puppy was 7 months old he was taking calcium and other joint strengthening medications got his hips. I do not recommend this place..

Purchased a kitten from here in June. When I purchased the kitten, I specifically asked for a female. I even made sure the girl checked. 2 months later I find out it's a boy cat. When I called to speak to the manager, I asked if anybody works there knows the difference between a boy & a girl and all she could say was "I guess not". & she says they aren't allowed to sell cats anymore. Hmm I wonder why. Best customer service.

Bought a husky 7 years ago and it was sick with kennel cough and had parasites. Revisited and prices skyrocketed. Also, an employee lied saying all the dogs are rescues when every dog is a purebred puppy, they have litters of each dog they carry at a time, and always have the same breeds.

If I can rate it zero stars I would. This place is gross, over priced, they have NO knowledge about breeds or straight answers for anything. The owner mistreats his employees and treats them like little kids. I had one of the employees call the owner for a question that I had about my puppy and she was terrified of calling and when I asked to speak to the owner he just hung up, that’s absolutely rude and just plain WRONG!!!!!!! This place is the worst don’t give them your business there are so many options out there for you, don’t make the same mistake I did! You have been warned.

Please don't go into this store and reframe from buying any pets. The birds are kept in boxes! The poor puppies are clearly exhausted from the lack of exercise. Once you enter, there's a foul smell. All the animals are covered in fleas. Please do not buy from this cruel pet store.

This is an extremely unethical business because Chicago has an ordinance that prevents pet stores from selling dogs from puppy mills and breeders in order to decrease the high rate of shelter dogs being killed in the city's shelters, however, this business imports puppies from breeders in other states and labels pure bred dogs as "rescue dogs" and sells them for $1000.00 plus. Shame on PET LUV for caring more about profits than the well being of homeless dogs and animals that you are supposed to provide supplies for us to take care of!

Years ago we purchased a dog from Pet Luv. Turns out the dog was inbred. I just recently found out that this store buys puppies from Puppy Mills. If you have a heart, please do not purchase any animals from this store.

Do your research and make sure the puppy your getting is healthy. We purchased a unhealthy puppy (german sheperd)on March Of 2015 at Pet Luv.They send you with their vet to get a free check up , We took our puppy and they had told us he just had hookworms.Wich the medication was paid by petluv ($9).Hookworms are not a thing to play around with if you have kid's. I asked the vet why he had so much diarrhea, she said it was the hookworms.Ok...so after finding out our puppy had hookworms we made a stop at petluv to tell them about the sick puppy they sold us.I told one of the lady's that was there (not the owner) she said the medication will make all the hookworms go away it shouldn't be a problem.I was furious'! Lies! Lies! Lies! The vet gave me a sheet with information about hookworms, it said the medication only kills adult worms not the eggs.So I had to talk back to her right'! I mean if your going to have someone work at a petshop make sure they know about puppies and all the types of illnesses. She looked so retarded making up things.Well things just got worse we took our puppy with another vet for his shots and examinationI told the vet my puppy had hookworms so he was getting treatment their too.Three weeks later he's doing no better diarrhea got worse ,he was loosing weight, he would get tired quickly. We took him in for a fecal examination he tested negative for hookworms. She told me he can possibly have coccidia. we got a prescribed dog food the vet send us home with to help his stomach. The next check up he got I told his vet he wasn't doing any better. Then we made another fecal exam because we wanted to make sure wat was really going on.He tested positive for coccidia, we now have him on medication for that. He's not doing any better at all, he's eating alot and growing the thing is he's getting worse it sucks he's just a puppy. We brought him to our home now we have to take good care of him, it's been stressful dealing with all of this.Maybe if they had told us the truth that my puppy had coccidia not hook worms at the (Vet ) Pet Luv send us to things would've been better. Pet luv only care's about the money not their pets.Dont buy any pets from their place, They had more german shepherds with our puppy who's know who else got a puppy with coccidia and they haven't even notice.Listen to our story and think before you step into this place.& This is just the beginning for us.WE HOPE THIS WOULD HELP
