We have gone many times to donate things to Veterans Closet, first because we completely support veterans and are very grateful to the, but we like this place because they don't sell anything. Anything that the veteran or their family needs that they have, it is given to them. We like that a lot. We have donated there probably 5 or 6 times with everything from clothing to furniture and I'm going to be going through more things and bringing as much as I can over there.

I was a homeless veteran with 3 college degrees but no J.O.B. to support myself with ... I was disabled by a series of unfortunate automobile accidents that were legally entangled and physically disabling. BUT the Midwest Veterans Closet was there for me when I was between a rock and a hard place. They provided me with almost everything that I needed to survive being homeless and torestart my life afterwards. I was provided with everything that I required to get and furnish my own apartment from good healthy foods and cooking lessons, cooking tools and utensils, pots, pans, coffee pots, haircuts and grooming tips, clean and durable clothing, shoes and winter boots, furniture and even an air conditioner when I needed it. There is nothing that I can think of that did more for me than the honest moral support that I got from knowing that that I had somewhere to go to if I wanted or really needed anything to help me to get back up on my own two feet ...Thank you very much Ms Mary and all of your dedicated and caring volunteers..

The Veterans closet is for veterans. All workers are volunteers. Food, clothing, and all other goods are donations from people in the community. People don't get paid for their DONATIONS. All products are free to all veterans in need. The Veterans closet also has another building for furniture donations. However this location will be torn down and a Brand New Building will be built in the Spring of 2024. It will house both locations in one. The furniture location is not accepting any more furniture this year and will be closed until the New Facility is built.

They really do a great job letting Vets know they are not alone and they gave my brother John Krueger great food and allowed him to get an area rug and other needed items! Thanks for your help!!

We donated 6 garbage bags full of nice clothes, children's toys, and furniture to Vets Closet. The "helpers" selfishly took/stole all of our donations and put them into their car. The vets never saw any of it!We will not donate again to this charity. Vets Closet is a wonderful concept, but needs better structure to facilitate the goods getting into the hands of people truly in need.

This place is an amazing resource for vets and active duty military members and their families. They have 3 separate parts, an outdoor warehouse with furniture items that is further down the road, a household goods section that has clothes, shoes, books, kitchenware, and many other items, and the pantry area where they will walk through with you and ask what you would like with what they have. The first time we went, we were able to get a dresser, some clothes for the parents and kids, some kids shoes, some baby sunscreen, and lots of food items, including girl scout cookies, frozen ground beef, frozen bratwursts, precut fruit, eggs (which unfortunately were all broken), milk, a small decorated birthday cake, some pre-made wraps, pita chips, mustard, sugar cookie mix, turkey gravy, and some canned goods. Basically, we got a ton of stuff that we needed, and it was all for free! I'm very grateful for this place and its volunteers.

Service Members, go hear if you need anything. Friendly, sincere, and they really understand that life is hard sometimes. Just bring your military ID, and you can get what you need in the pinch; whether it's some food, a jacket for the winter, or even perhaps a nice pair of shoes or a suit coat and pants for a gathering. You might be surprised what you find.

Myself, Mayor Tom Hood, and County Board Member Carissa Casbon had the opportunity to visit the Midwest Veterans Closet on Green Bay Road in North Chicago.Military, veteran, or veteran dependent? Come here. Everything is free. They are open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-3 on a 1st come 1st serve basis.Have something to donate; they'll take it. The biggest needs are: cash, long John's, socks, coats, pots & pans, utensils, towels, sheets, blankets, food, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, noodles, and more. Of course, volunteers are greatly appreciated.As they say, They do what they can with what they have.They serve those who've served.Special thanks to Paula and Carrie for showing us around.It's the only place like it in Lake County.

a couple of Veterans lost their jobs and couldn't afford to buy food to feed their family. They were afraid to ask for help. one told me, for the first time in his life, he felt helpless and useless because he couldn't buy food two days before his money arrived. I took him to The Veterans Closet. his reply was Thank God for this place. he didn't feel ashamed, because he was among his brothers, and he wasn't the only one. They helped him with food and warm winter coats for himself and family. The people there treated him with dignity and respect. He said once he get fully back on his feet. He will help support other Veterans. he also thank those who volunteer to help him and other Veterans.'

My husband is a Marine Vet and he has gotten him and me awesome clothes, house goods, books, games, videos, and stuffies. They do great work for the Veterans and their families. Now they have a food pantry for the Vets. For the summer they are doing a cooking class with fresh veggies and then you get to take home all the ingredients that you need for the recipe from that day. All freshly picked. Mmmmm. I can't quit raving about them, they are so awesome!!!

I have been taking fresh produce from my garden. Saw first hand that the volunteers at the Veterans closet are helping themselves to the produce and the food drives. I bring food for people who have no food, not to volunteers who have time and energy to take a lunch break to go buy their own food. This is a shame. Since the manager and or owner will not get back to me I will report the organization.

Midwest Veteran Closet is FANTASTIC! The staff are very helpful and patient as they assist you with what you are seeking. It's organized and tidy. I took 2 veterans to Midwest and they were able to leave with a lot of items. They were very happy with the outcome. Thank you Mary Carmody and all the staff for being so helpful!!!

Mary that runs the Closet is a very giving person. God Bless her and Cary. Do you know an active military or veteran in need of clothing or food even furniture? Just bring your military ID and help yourself to anything you need. All military shop for free. If you have in good condition used clothing, furniture the closer will take it. How about a gas card or movie gift card anything that will help our military vets or active duty. Do you know we have men and women that have protected our freedom and they ARE now homeless? If you have clothes you can no longer wear consider donating them. Also non perishable food is always welcome as are dishes, cook ware & other household items. Everything is given to vets free of charge..very helpful to those who have just returned to civilian life

The Midwest Veterans Closet is an excellent resource for military families for FREE, *must have veteran or active duty ID card.* Food pantry, clothing, housewares, winter coats, hygiene products, sheets/towels and even furniture are given for free. Caring staff!

Thank god for the service. I was at the VA hospital and had nothing but the shirt on my back.I Was brought to the veterans closet for help..I received Brand new shirts, pants and shoes.. With no money I have left the store with everything I needed. Thank you for all of the donation of others, and the workers, the volunteers, for helping aUS Army combat 25 yrs veteran..
