This grocery store hits a sweet spot of being cheap, providing decent customer service and keeping items in stock. I approached the service desk many times and each time I was treated with respect. I asked help from a produce guy recently, and he went fetching something from the back room right away. Compared to two other Jewels I shop frequently, this one rarely runs out of stock on those popular/on-sale items. Whoever is in charge of the produce deparment does a pretty good job. The meat department is so-so.There are other area grocery stores that offer better customer service but their goods cost nearly twice as this one. With higher prices, those stores are able to pay higher wages to their employees and that cost is passed to consumers.Like most grocery stores, you have to pick the best time to shop. Avoid Sunday nights. Store staff left early. Check-out lines grow very long and the customer service desk is unmanned.One quirk about this store is that they like to blow AC hard during the summer to the point it's like 50 degree inside while outside could be 90. I have to bring a sweater when I shop here in the summer.

We are so lucky to have this Jewel- Osco in Hyde Park. The store is clean, well stocked, good prices, but most importantly they have the most pleasant staff and kind and caring costumer service. It is my go to for grocery shopping. I also, noticed they are culturally sensitive and have been increasing their Asian and Middle Eastern products. Thank you!!

Shopped for lunch foods March 1, 2024 at Jewel at 61st and Cottage Grove Avenue and was profiled and followed by a Spanish security officer. After I paid for my food and started heading to the door he stood in my path forcing me to walk around him. I had thought it odd that at every stop while I was shopping there he was pretending to be looking for some grocery item and pushing a shopping cart with several items in it. As I was leaving the store and was forced to walk around him I realized what he was up to—racial profiling black men, I assume under the direction of Jewel management. Black people in Chicago have made Jewel extremely profitable, and this is the thanks we get. I have had this experience hundreds of times at Jewels. Sometimes the offenders were black; sometimes white; now Spanish. I have in the past simply overlooked the insult , the racism.Now I have decided to take my business elsewhere. Goodbye Jewel. I will never spend money in one of your stores again. I wish all black people in Chicago would do the same. Why should we continue to allow ourselves to be profiled racially as thieves when all we want is to buy lunch for tomorrow at work?

Kinda defeats the purpose to have express self-checkouts if all the machines break and you have to wait for the poor single attendant to fix the error on every machine.On the bright side, even if you had more than 15 items, you'd still probably cash out faster there than at the registers.

Very bad attention. The store don’t haven’t sufficient cashiers , Im here try to pay my stuff and all cashiers said: “We changed shift “ , I can’t do you transaction here because I will closed” … very bad experience, maybe 15 customers were waiting too! 🤦🏽‍♀️

I'm Japanese.Let's write from a Japanese point of view.Meat, vegetables and drinks are cheap.On the other hand, fish are expensive.At that time, heaps of popcorn were handmade, and it was as cheap as 2 dollars.Cakes and donuts are very sweet. There are also blue cakes.In conclusion, it was enough to buy food while studying abroad.

1st off I work for jewel osco and have insurance through my husband, who also works for jewel. My problem is the pharmacy and their lack of knowledge and not the one who helped me but the little chick with buzz cut hair. I didn't have my prescription card just came from emergency room..didn't think it would be a issue since my husband has prescriptions there yet they claim the insurance denied it and I have to call them after waiting 50 mins on a Sunday. The chick with short hair tells the other pharmacist it doesn't matter if she takes it to her jewel she still needs to call her insurance...well guess what my store was able to fill my prescription and I didn't have to call anyone..all I had to do was give them my husband's info and now I have the medication I need to breath. That chick needs to check her attitude and try to learn to be human.

Horrible customer service and rude cashiers! Expired products on the shelves. I would travel for better service than this store! I have had nothing but back to back bad customer service, one day I went to the customer service desk to pick up an item via FEDEX and was greeted by not one but TWO of thee most rudest neck popping who didn’t wanted to work there cashiers ever! Another occasion there was only ONE REGISTER open with the line growing into the aisle and finally the bagger get on the register, I politely stepped over since I the next customer waiting. The cashier waited til I had approached and said, “I wasn’t even opened!” I replied, “Why did you wait to informed me instead of saying it to the previous two customers prior to me?” I requested for cash back, then that like mad her even more mad…..she then replied, “NEXT TIME MAKE A PURCHASE of $5 of MORE!” I’m like why is she so angry and mad, at that point I requested for a Manager on Duty. Demanded for her name and inform the manager that I will inform corporate on her behavior and the continuous bad customer service this store’s has! I wouldn’t RECOMMEND anyone to come here due to the lack of customer service it has!

When Jewel 1st open I give them 4 stars , but I had to change my reviews because two times that store has sold me spoiled meat lb chops and chicken th mangers needs to stay on top of they employees the first time I let it pass by not giving a review second time no go.

My husband went to pick up our pick up order. And when he came home I went through the bags to start to put the groceries up . I found the cookies open I call and talk to 2 people. And both of the young ladies was rude . Not.Shopping there no more.

Everything about the store is just fine. But taking advantage of online coupon discounts is unintuitive and annoying to deal with. Not like other stores that only need your phone number if you don't have a card.

Probably one of the best local stores in the area especially because of the fact of having a clean & open restroom where I don’t have to find somebody that’s hiding with the passcode and always says it’s out of order but really they don’t want to service black people in a black neighborhood smh. They could’ve made better use of bathroom space by having 2Urinals and 2Stalls anyway... the aisles and floors are clean and the people who work here are nice for the most part.

We need to talk about the ridiculous lines here. Why would you have only a couple of self-serve registers open and then only one cashier open? Plenty of employees, why not open more cashier lanes? The place needs a thorough cleaning. The fried chicken and Ramen Stand are pretty good. Decent selection of processed food but not a great variety of produce and organic things. Bathrooms are improved. What is that I see -toilet seat covers?

This place is great! The price is generally cheap, and especially the meat including lamb, chicken, and beef is in great quality compared to the price. Although most of the products are fresh, I don’t recommend you buying fruit there. I bought some res apples and they were brown inside.

Jewels was doing so well in the Pharmacy dept. I was bragging on them. Saying how good they were compared to Walgreens n CVS. Well I got to take that back for my last three pickups. 1st one was 1 hr. 30 mins. 2nd one a lil less then 2 hrs. Now today 3 hrs. Come on now that's too long! 😪

The customer service sucks. It doesn’t matter what time I go in here there’s never enough cashiers, employees to assist or registers open. The regular lines were long as hell.The self check out line was so long it was wrapped around to the flower/balloon counter. You all need some better management to run this store.

I like this Jewel. It's become a bit pricey, though. Now that the Walmart has closed near me, l swing between Jewel and Mariano's to grocery shop. Inflation influences things too. I look for things to drink, 🍞 and meat/sandwiches on sale. One thing that stands out is chocolate covered peanuts 🥜. They are sinfully delicious 😋. It's not easy to shop. Sale items makes it easier. It's one of the few places where l can buy a newspaper, though they don't seem to have them every day 😔. I have trouble saving money. One the whole, l like Jewel, but manage your money.

Needs to keep items in stock for customers. Also, hire deli workers that can work schedules for longevity, not short turnaround. Families are working longer hours and need hot and cold foods. Please consider your customers needs.
