Decided to check out Barks N’ Rec because my new puppy was teething, and the toys I picked up at Petsmart just weren’t cutting it. Dave (one of the owners) listened carefully, showed me my options, and made thoughtful recommendations. I’m so glad I took his advice! Instead of nipping at me in a desperate attempt to relieve his pain, my pup cuddled up on my lap and went to town on the bully spring Dave suggested. It’s like he was a totally different dog!Outside of that, the shop is well-organized, stocked with high quality products, and appropriately staffed. I’m glad we have this new little gem in the neighborhood.

What a great experience at Barks N' Rec today. The owners were so attentive and patient with our questions about food and harnesses. They were very knowledgeable!!! I won't be returning to a big chain store. Barks N' Rec is a gem of a store with an emphasis on pet owner education and support. LOVE IT! Will return soon. This is my favorite pet store in Chicago!! We have never been able to go in store because we live far away but they have delivered countless things for us with free Chicago delivery. They were so helpful when I didn’t plan for winter and delivered our dog, Tahini, some booties, a coat, and paw safe salt. They also have the best local vendors that come in (my favorite is Simply Stout, the highest quality bandanas). Great experiences with Barks. They always have my pup's brand of dog food in stock and its easy in and easy out every time I stop in. Their rewards programs saves me some money every couple of visits. I'm happy for them that the construction on Lincoln is almost done. Thanks again!

My pup absolutely loves going to Play! The staff are all so helpful and kind. I feel like they really know my dog and his personality. He always comes home tired, so I know he is having the best day ever every time he goes. Cannot recommend enough.

This place is great! Great selection of toys, treats and anything else you need. Whenever I walk by, I am always picking up a pig's ear, or some other treat.The management and staff are great, as well, always friendly and helpful. They just ran a raffle for $150 gift card (which I actually won!), but I'm amazed they reward their customers like that.Go here, you will always find something good for your pup.

The best pet store! Our dog goes crazy when we stop in here on a walk. So many different toys, treats, pet food options, even free samples. (Dog & cat stuff, no fish/exotics.)Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Dave & Josh are amazing owners of this place! It's such a beautiful and well-organized store. They have everything you need in a dog/cat store. I'll begin ordering dog food regularly from them soon. I just purchased my female boxer a dog jacket and it definitely keeps her warm. The first size kept unbuckling from the neck due to my boxer's upper body build. I checked in with Josh and asked for a bigger size and he was able to get that for my 10 year old pup. It went smoothly. They're very attentive and knowledgeable. My other dog Wrigley loves their ice cream and bullysticks too. We still have a toy that Wrigley hasn't completely annihilated yet and we bought it a while back. It's definitely worth a trip and to bring your pup along. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Absolutely cannot day enough good things about this store and the incredible guys who own it! I am adopting a dog and am new to pet ownership and Josh spent a solid hour with me one on one today helping pick out all the things I need. Then they delivered it to my place with a sweet note, even remembering my dogs name! I will absolutely not shop anywhere else for her. They have a great variety in the store (and are constantly adding things) and are so knowledgeable! I’m so glad to find them!!

I'm so happy that Barks N' Rec carries my favorite dog treats- Farm to Pet chicken and turkey chips. I ordered some more recently because my dog prefers these over any other treats we've tried. I also really like that they are just one ingredient!

Barks N Rec is the absolute best!! My dog pulls me back here on walks all the time. The local owners are super friendly. The selection is huge with really cute toys, seasonal dog items, bow ties, treats, food, dog clothes- everything you need! The shop is super clean and a big space to browse in. Best pet store in Chicago! I visited the store to prepare for my adopted dog, and the owners were incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I called them ahead of time to ask about a few items, and they pulled them aside for me without me even asking! The quality of their products is top notch, and I could have honestly spent all day in there looking at the great selection. This is hands down my favorite pet store and they'll got my repeat business!

This is a fantastic store. Josh and Dave are super nice and very knowledgeable. My dog has a favorite bone she likes and they didn’t have it so they are going to order it for me to pick up in store. We have been coming for over a year now. Two times a month for a pawdicure and a few times a year for bath/groom. Mary Pat, Christina and the team are incredible. Flexible, kind, great with dogs…my Keenam didn’t love his pawdicures at first but Christina and the team won him over. He gets to meet new friends, say “hey” to old friends, receive lots of praise and treats. Easy to get to, great to work with, fun to visit. Would give more than five stars if I could!

Lovely store. My wife and I and our two doggos were warmly greeted by the owners, Josh and Dave, who handed out treats and let us know that they were available for questions or requests, then let us have our space to wander. The shop is spacious and refreshingly open, unlike so many pet stores with shelves every two feet and and products crammed into every nook. The focus is on excellent products, nicely merchandised, with the assurance that if you don't see what you're looking for, they will try to order it for you. The owners, new to Chicago, have clearly invested a great deal of thought and research into this spot, and seem determined to be part o the neighborhood and the community, seeking product requests, suggestions, and general feedback. I'm eager to see their space grow and build, with its planned classes and pup parties, and look forward to taking the doggos back for more treats.

I am so happy Barks N' Rec opened in our neighborhood! Their food recommendation for my dog has saved us from countless sleepless nights outside with the dog who was getting sick from other types of specialty kibble. We have finally found something that works for him and they always have it in stock. I also love the variety of treats, accessories, and fun items they have in the store--it changes based on the season.
