I had a very good experience here with my frenchie, it was a long wait which I expected considering that it’s a low cost clinic. The veterinarian assessed my baby it took him about 10 minutes. He told me what was wrong and gave me the prescription. I think I might have waited a little longer I paid and left.

Came in as a walk in on Wednesday and had my cat examined to see if he'll be healthy enough to be neutered. Got scheduled for an appointment 2 days later. From the time I walked in people spoke we were waited on immediately wait time wasn't long, was able to go grab lunch came back right at the moment my number was about to be called. Day of appointment check in was smooth. Picked him up promptly at 3. Was given after care instructions and told what to do if I noticed any problems at the incision site. So far this has been a pleasant experience. Low cost high volume clinic they ask you to be patient with them. They could definitely definitely benefit from a huge check from an anonymous donor.

Girl they take forever I’ve been here since 9AM and my cats weren’t seen until 12:15PM and they have my cats for more than 2 hours (currently waiting, so who knows how long it will actually take) if you can’t take that many pets stop accepting clients it’s that simple. Like I get you need money but seriously quality over quantity for service please, stop doing the opposite. If you plan on coming here make sure you ask for the wholeeeeee day off work 😀, you’ll need it. Make sure to bring food/snacks for not just your animal but for you as well.

I’m so happy I found this place. Very reasonable prices. You will wait a long time to be seen but it’s worth the wait. They took care of my dog who was so sick with diarrhea. Prescribed 3 meds and within 24 hours my baby was doing so much better! Thank you again Animal Welfare League for all that you do!

The fact that you can't see the dogs in person is very off putting. I would of liked to see which dog I had a good rapport with, and not just a photo on there website. Some of their dogs didn't even have a pic attached. How can they ever expect to get adopted if you cant see them. Hopefully they change this policy soon and allow in person walk throughs again.

These people are so rude, the receptionist always has an attitude and I can’t seem to get a hold of the guy that does the scheduling. the few times that I have called this man has an attitude. Poor customer service, they are only there to get paid and not to help the animals. It was very disappointing to be treated they way they treated me. They need to do better.

Do NOT take your animals to this place the same thing happened to my neighbor, I should’ve listened to her and not take my dog there.I brought my dog to the facility due to persistent vomiting. After conducting a parvo test and examining him, the staff concluded that he was experiencing an upset stomach and prescribed some medication. However, his condition worsened, prompting me to bring him back the following day. An X-ray was performed, and the veterinarian recommended an exploratory surgery based on the observation of an obstruction. Unfortunately, no obstruction was found during the procedure. The staff informed me that my dog was doing well and allowed me to take him home after an overnight stay, but in reality I just took him home to die..I trusted them with my dog and they caused more suffering than anything else. They never figured out what was wrong with him, he died after going through a surgery where they opened him completely side by side on his belly, then they put some metal clamps to close him up and send him home to die.The person who called me to tell me that he was fine and I could take him home asked me if I noticed him trying to vomit all the time. I told her THAT WAS THE REASON I BROUGHT HIM IN.I contacted them about this and they never answered, not even from courtesy.

Extremely rude and insulting staff. You can smell urine from the parking lot even worse inside, was overwhelming. I was shocked when I witnessed them wheeling out a dead dog as I was walking in. When I asked they refuse to let you see the strays, seemingly hiding how badly the conditions are. Never believed the rumors of this place till my own experience. I'd avoid this place as they seem to not care. If they treat customers this badly I can't imagine how they treat those poor animals. I was treated very poorly, the guy working the counter got unhinged for me coming in person and not looking online when I was looking for my lost pet, when I told them the Palos Police told me to check at the shelter instead of just calling and it was on my way home from work so I just stopped in before they closed, one of the workers started to rant about how bad the Palos Hills Police are and how they shouldn't had said anything negative and how "This is why people don't trust police" seemingly maybe thinking I was a police officer, not sure. He ranted about a specific officer with Palos Hills PD, told me to tell him that he needs to shut his mouth. I only spoke to dispatch so I had no idea what he was talking about. He was screaming that he had run ins before with the Palos Hills police at their facility. I told him, I didn't care about his bizarre issues with the Palos Police and I was simply looking for my animal. He told me that the lady at the other counter would look up the description of my lost pet. While I was talking with the lady at the counter giving the description of my lost pet, this same guy chimed in when I told her what I had done so far to try to find my pet and shared the description and a picture the man behind the other counter who just finished ranting said, "Seems you know an awful lot about lost dogs, doesn't sound like your first time" I went off, explained that we had this senior dog for almost 15 years and this was the first time he got out, and told the man he was being a rude a-hole. He then said, "Maybe you should have taken better care of your animal." I don't understand his cruelty or his apparent issues with law enforcement. He went on to say "You came in here attacking me and my organization and you can leave" I then told the man I came to see if you have my pet I'm so confused as to what your issue is but I don't know any effing Palos Hills Officers and just wanted to see if you had my dog. He then starts to yell again "We only have 5 dogs", first I've heard this, so I asked again if he could show me, he then opens the photos on his computer at his counter and said "Here this is ALL I HAVE!" I looked at his screen, thanked him and the lady, who I don't think did anything but sigh and roll her eyes, and I told the man at the counter he needs to work on not being such an a-hole. Will be avoiding this place and rallying for a protest after seeing just a glimpse of the condition and the treatment from the staff.

These people do NOT care about animals they care about money. Caller to get a sick and old cat in kidney failure to be put down and explained to them my cat was in pain and I couldn’t afford to put her down. And they said they can’t help unless I have the 100 $ to put her down. Vets take an oath not to see an aniimal suffer. But apparently these people don’t follow oaths. Thank god they r not people doctors turning dying patients away

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS AWFUL PLACE.wow. this place is honestly awful. As soon as you walk through the front door, you can smell something so foul it's even hard to describe. This horrid smell only gets works the longer you stand in there. Not only the smell was the issue but the place is hoarded with a crazy amount of things, I was looking around when the man at the front desk stared until I say Hello. I tried to ask if I was able to see the adoptable pets in their facility. He rudely told me to look online. I told him I had but I wanted to see them in person to see which pets were on site. Again, he told me in a condescending tone, that I can take a look online, claiming all pets on website were on site. I explained how there were over 100. He asked me if I was even on the right site. At this point I'm frustrated that this older man is still questioning me and being so condescending instead of making himself helpful. I replied how it was indeed the animal welfare league site. He then just told me they don't do walkthroughs. Why couldn't he just start with that? This honestly makes me wonder if the stench inside is because of their mishandling the poor animals and just don't want anyone to actually know. I mean, now that I think about it, maybe it's the smell that puts these employees in such a rude mood.

It's been 2 years since I had to take my American Bully Rajah to the Animal Welfare League he had to have major surgery on one of his legs because he had been attacked by one of my other dogs they did an awesome job by replacing the broken part of his leg with a piece of surgical metal and now my dog is running around healthy and happy and I continue to take Rajah to this Clinic because they do such an awesome job with him and he enjoys coming to this establishment, and their prices are very reasonable. I will continue to be a loyal customer of the Animal Welfare League.

The first time I came to this place I came with my dog and the service was great it took an hour. Today I went back with my cat to get vaccinated and I was number 27 and I went there early I got there before 10 they were taking long so I went back to the front desk a few times and ask what number they were on and they were on number 4 I was there for 2 hours and they were on number 4 so i just left! By the way I can tell the employees are racist to Latino people

I am not sure if this business is in to helping animals or providing jobs to inner city unemployable people. If you make the mistake of calling them the first thing is ask for a name of the person you are talking to and they will more than likely hang up on you. Waiting 4 weeks for a response to a adoption application still waiting. Read the reviews they are accurate. You can't just show up to see the dogs because they would have to keep it clean all the time and they can't even meet the basic care of the animals but the people have jobs. They don't want the pictures of the blood and animals sitting in their own wast getting out again.

I LOVE AWL! I have five rescues...3 dogs & 2 cats, one was adopted directly from there and all were spayed & neutered by them. I get their yearly shots at a great price and just this weekend we got my pittie girl's allergy medicine within an hour(which is a record) because they are so busy. The donation of blankets and other items are greatly appreciated especially since winter is coming. The wait can be long but these people work hard for our fur babies and a thank you is just never enough. ❤

DO NOT GO HERE!!! First, no one ever answers the phones so you can't get any questions answered ahead of time. This should have been our first clue. We went in for a quote for a surgery we already knew he needed. I asked several staff members how long the wait is and they are evasive because they KNOW if people know the wait will be 4+ HOURS, they will just go somewhere else. After a $35 visit and a 4 AND HALF HOUR wait, we were finally given a written quote for $1400 which was $400 MORE than the price from the neighborhood vet. They also required blood work which was an additional $150. What a waste of a Saturday.

I filled out their application I was interested in a dog who has been there a while. I own a home with a nice fenced in yard and have decades of experience, we have rescued many dogs but they would rather let the dogs sit in filthy, feces, blood and urine covered cages for months on end (I've seen the pictures y'all), they don't even get walks because they kicked out the volunteers. And this is supposed to be a "rescue"?They never even bothered to get back to me. These are not animal rescuers, they are cruel gatekeepers who actively prevent their animals from being adopted into loving homes, pretty much the opposite of what they are paid to do. No amount of "letters from the president" can change this very sad and unfortunate fact.

Lost my grandbaby dog to a massive tumor that formed on his lower right backside. Diesel was 14 years old. Hard to write this in tears. They were very polite, nice and understanding. One of the hardest things I ever had to do. Stayed with him during the process. Very humane. So thank you for caring for my grandbaby dog Diesel. All dogs go to heaven. He was my diamond in the rough. It's on his head.

Not sure they even still have dogs here. Told two days after adoption application was completed I would here from them. 3 weeks later still nothing. I called and they said all the dogs I put down were already gone awhile so they also don't update there website. Wouldn't waste my time there lot of better shelters out there.

This place used to be all about caring for animals. Not sure when that changed, but I cannot describe my experience as pleasant. Unfortunately, there are still lots of animals in there that need good homes, but after reading some other reviews it seems they're not even good for that. It's a shame; when I volunteered there years ago there was always a sense of compassion for the animals . Now it seems to be just a hiding place for ignorant people to collect a paycheck. I hope something can be done to return it to the shelter it was that helped and cared.

It is said that more people should adopt animals. They are processed makes it difficult to do so. I went there over a week ago with my mom. She wants to adopt a Chihuahua. Still have not heard anything back from this place. so I'm not sure Why we filled out the paperwork for no one to contact us back. I think two stars is too many stars that place is total chaos.

Very caring doctor! I admired the multitasking schedule that he performed that day! Apart from doing surgeries and then seeing other sickly animals is amazing! Other staff very helpful! I know the wait is long, but it is worth it! True angels!!

ZERO STARS . I’ve never experienced so much rudeness from a place . My dog is lost and i was just trying to look for him . It was insane to me how people at an animal shelter were so rude to a person who is looking for their dog and just want some answers . I called in to see a dog that was reported lost because it looked like my dog and just wanted to see it , as it says in the description “ come see me in kennel __ “ so I thought it was open to the public . A rude guy answered giving lots of attitude asked for my name , I gave him my name he then asked for the ID of the dog . I gave it to him and he then told me the dog is microchipped. I asked him were the owners contacted by any chance? I don’t know what he heard or what but he then yelled and said “ Mexican?! Where did I say Mexican ?? I asked for your name” I was so confused , I told him “what do you mean? I said my name is __ and you told me the dog is microchipped so I asked if the owner was contacted.. he yelled “ he is microchipped this is not your dog” with the most attitude . I was just confused on why he was so rude and mean so I hung up . But I mean I’m looking for my dog and just wanted some answers, so I call back and I’m upset at this point but another person answers and it’s a lady . I told her what was going on and the reason I called she said “okay??” Again another person with attitude, she rudely says “we already told you that dog is microchipped , I don’t think you understand how that works” I said “I do but I wanted more information , I’m not the person who is under my dogs info “ she kept talking over me and yelling at me “thats not your dog, you are not the owner!” she didn’t let me tell her the name of the person who is under my dogs info, which would be my dad or mom . She ended up hanging up on me . I genuinely thought it was my dog and still kind of do because I can’t identify or get information for myself . I just wanted that closure or clarity if it is or is not him and they were just so rude for no reason . It was really disgusting behavior . I’ve read other reviews and yeah I think it can be racism but regardless, RIDICULOUSLY RUDE, OBNOXIOUS , INCONSIDERATE PEOPLE .

This place was gheeetttoooooo ghetto. I’ve been watching the website for weeks to look for adoptable pets and today I drive an hour from the city to visit a few of the animals I was interested in. Met by a woman who practically BEGGED me to fill out an application but would not let me meet the animals without an appointment which no one cared to mention when speaking to them on the phone yesterday. It felt like a scam to steal information and I feel bad for the animals who are kept in that facility. As I pleaded with the woman who greeted me a lady behind the desk who had nothing better to do scoffed at everything I said. I wouldn’t drive back out to that shelter for anything, which is extremely unfortunate when you have a surplus of babies that aren’t getting the care and love they deserve while there but also the facility refuses to let you adopt without an appointment. Look into this place- something isn’t adding up

Even the waiting is all day on a Saturday for me coming from the far end of the North side in Chicago for my furry baby. I will wait until the end because his health is very important to me. I never meet the doctor of this place, but so far, it seems like he or she cares for the furry babies, not to mention some of the staff.

The worse place I have taken my dog. The receptionist is horrible and they did not care about my dog. They are racist and treated my so so bad. My feelings are extremely hurt. Then gave me misleading information about care. Would not recommend if you love your dog.

My family adopted a bonded pair of pit bulls from Animal Welfare League's Chicago Ridge location last week. They are the sweetest girls and after them being in the shelter for over a year, we are so happy to be able give them a place to call home. Walter at the front desk, Karen one of the dog handlers, and the rest of the staff were very kind and helpful! We submitted our application online and heard back from Walter about a week later asking for any specific dogs we were interested in. We were able to come in the night of to meet them. AWL has so many looking for homes, especially of the pit bull breed. We did not have any issues with this place as we saw from some of the reviews but be patient yet persistent with them. They want the best for you and the animals. Please don't overlook AWL if you are looking to adopt (Chicago Ridge is their only adoption location currently but they have other locations where they hold even more in the shelter). They told us their #1 need currently is dog food so we brought in a few bags and recommend, even if you are not looking to adopt, to donate! But all of the dogs at AWL deserve to be a part of a family and to find place that they can truly call home. I cannot press adopting here enough! You will make a difference in the life of a dog that truly needs it and deserves it!

Old building. There is a wait at the clinic, first come first serve, but they don't charge as much as other vets. Patients accepted 8 to noon cut off, unless it is an emergency. Employees are nice but always in a rush. I will be taking my dog there again. Plan to be there a minimum of 2 hours plus travel time. Friday and Saturday seems to be the busiest, but they are busy all the time. And if you call be patient, again they are really busy people. Update: Surgery: My dog's eye was sutured so his eye ulcer could heal but after a couple days it didn't look right so I took him back they said everything was fine. I watched my dog carefully and even slept with him to make sure nothing happened. I do not feel very confident in the work that was done. The more I go there with my dogs the more disappointing it gets. Everyone and I mean everyone there is in a rush.. they are sorely in need of staff. 8/3 I'm here to get the sutures removed. His eye is worse. ( the eye may have been poked during the suturing.) I quote the surgeon told the doctor, I don't know what the hell is going on. I've been referred to a specialist. ALSO I got home after suture removal I noticed there were still stitches in his eye and I had to take him to another vet by the house to have them removed. When I initially called this place they should have told me that they don't do eyes I would not have bothered. During the initial examination of his eyes the doctor should have told me they don't do eyes but instead my dog has gone through a lot only to get worse, I'm out of $500, I'm very hurt that my baby is worse. Now I have to find a specialist. Protect your Furry Babies. This is an awful just awful place. Good for a routine vaccinations Etc things of that nature.

First off my husband tried to call when the receptionist rudely hung up on him, so I figured I'd call and ask some questions and the receptionist was extremely rude, had a horrible attitude, I wanted to give this place a try cause I've heard some good things about it, but I was just met with rudeness, and unkindness, if you hate your job that much to were you can treat people right then leave and probably shouldn't ve dealing with animals. I would like to give this place a zero star but I can't sadly

I called the shelter to see about an older female dog for adoption. "If you saw them online, they're still here" was the response. I go to the shelter to meet this sweetheart. Place was empty. 2 employees were there and couldn't have been more condescending. "We don't do sane day adoption and if you want to meet the dog you need an appointment. Fill out an application." Okay, I fill out said application. I call the following day to see if I could schedule to meet this sweet girl. Again, same condescending attitude. Ma'am you just filled the application last night? Scoffs ,well you need to give us at least a week to go over it.Newsflash! Don't complain that you're overcrowded when you have no desire to get these animals homes. A week? I feel horrible for these animals. You have willing people that want to adopt an older dog and this is how you treat them! It's appalling! I get that policy changes but the attitude is unprofessional and uncalled for.
