We went here and adopted stitch on the 8th. He has already warmed up to us and is best friends with our other cat pumpkin. They were all super nice and helpful. They even sent us with a goodie bag for stitch with toys and food. They had tons of cats that were super friendly and sweet. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a pet.

the staff was so helpful and knowledgeable about the cat I adopted! they even sent me home with a bag of food and treats! overall it was such a pleasant experience. my cat (peaches) is the best addition to our little family, i mean she fits right in!! she’s very energetic and loves to play with toys. i love this cat so much and it wouldn’t have been possible without this amazing staff!

Friendly staff. They bring the pets to you to meet individually which is nice. Not having people walking through the kennel space constantly is probably much less stressful for the dogs.Their website inventory is updated very quickly and matches what is on hand at the shelter.

No pressure to get a pet and bent over backwards to make sure that we were aware of the pros and cons of every dog we looked at.Heartily recommend that anyone looking to take a furry friend into their home and make the Belleville Humane Society their first stop.

Went in for one kitten...left with three. Turns out our family was not a good fit for one kitten as our infant crying really scared her. No one's fault. So we took her back in and they let us take a different kitten home.My only complaint isn't one I'll dock stars for. The litter mates we adopted had a respiratory infection and all three had worms when we adopted them. Par for the course with kittens born to stray mamas. We expected that. I did leave a message explaining what was going on and no one called back to check on them or offer suggestions for resources. We have been back to the vet multiple times because oral antibiotics didn't help and one had an eye infection that the vet said the antibiotics would cure and it did not.Injectable antibiotics seem to have helped the respiratory issues but that eye infection didn't go away. Now he's on drops and the eye discharge is gone but he struggles to keep it open and the eye itself is cloudy. We have another visit this week with the vet to see what our next steps are. I don't blame the shelter as these can be common issues when dealing with so many cats/kittens and strays. Thankfully my family has the money for the continued vet bills bur a call would have been nice.

The staff here are friendly, accommodating and heartfully dedicated to the wellbeing and happiness of the sheltered animals. They treated me very well in my search for a new four-legged friend and their service comes highly recommended. Do yourself and the community a favor -- don't buy from a mill, adopt from BAHS!

It is such a disservice to those of us in rural areas. They only take animals in St Clair Cty. Us in rural areas get more animals dumped on us than anybody. Our nearest shelter is so small they are only able to help a very few animals at a time. It's not fair to our animals. I have spent well over $1500 in the last 2 years on strays. . Getting them spayed neutered. I can't continue to do it. My house cat has Breast Cancer, adenocarcinoma. I have spent almost $2000 on her in 2 weeks. Her prognosis isn't overlygood. I have to care for her first. My other cat passed in May from kidney disease. Anyone who has had a cat with that knows how expensive kidney disease is.

The actual animal shelter was good,no problems there.but animal control wasnot. I felt like a bad person as if I had done something wrong. I was inquiring about finding a place for a mama dog n her 5 pups that were dumped on a friend's property and was told because they were not reported within 2 weeks that this person is responsible for these animals. This person can barely take care of themselves mychless 6 others.Guess my problem comes in at is they have room for strays, but no room for a mama w/5 pups thatcan not be cared for properly.When it comes to animals I love them. If I could I'd take them, but I 1. Live in an apartment which doesn't allow animals except Service Animals 2. I just don't have the room.The pups are going on 5 weeks old.Sad part is who ever dumped her she started having no long after being dumped. My understanding she had 10 pups total and lost 5.

I adopted a dog on Sunday and was told she was house trained, good with cats and two different stories about how they got her. I was also told that if she didn’t work out to just bring her back and they would gladly take her back and refund my 275 dollars I paid to adopt her. Right from the start she started going to the bathroom all over the house even after just coming in from outside. She chased my cat and tried to get him every time he came out to eat or see us. She chewed on the furniture etc! They were closed Monday so we took her back Tuesday and was greeted by a rude girl that said I had to make an appointment, get the managers approval and that at the time they had no kennels for her so we would have to keep her. She finally got the Director and the director said that they would take her back and I would have to sign a paper releasing her back to them. I asked about the refund and was told that I wouldn’t get that and to look at it as a donation to them! I believe that if they are not going to train their employees to do their jobs correctly and know the adoption process then they should not be able to adopt the animals out! I will be sending this up to the board of directors and possibly Fox 2 so they know what they are dealing with!

It is an amazing shelter that really cares about the animals. They also go great community programs like shot clinics, animal fostering, spary and neutering support, and many more. If you are looking to add a new friend to the family, this is the place to go!
