Love this place!! We got a cockatiel from Bird Is The Word for my sons birthday. They hand feed the birds so they are use to being handled. We also visited our bird every week and held it so it would use to us once ready to come home. We love our new bird Tweety and highly recommend this place. Staff is very knowledgeable

The place for birds! We have a hand-raised parakeet from here and we use them for nail and wing trims and vacation boarding. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They can help you with any bird related need.

Not too many bird stores are left and this one offers beautiful hand fed baby birds, a great line of large and small cages, and awesome toys. I have purchased a very healthy bird here and have been a client for over 10 years.

I’d give Bird is the Word 20 stars if I could. My boyfriend and I visited the shop once on a whim and now we come here 1-3 times a week to interact with their birds and are planning on getting one from them ourselves in the near future. After having visited some other bird breeders in the Chicagoland area, I can confidently say that Bird is the Word is as good as it gets.You’ll notice immediately that all the birds are very well socialized and that, above all, the staff care most about the animals’ wellbeing rather than quick sales. They’re provided a wealth of toys and perches, a variety of food consisting of pellets, seeds, and fresh chop, and are given tons of attention and out-of-cage time.This compassionate environment is all thanks to their amazing staff who have been super kind and welcoming to us from the start — especially Zack, who gave us a mini tutorial on basic bird care/training.I seriously can’t praise this place enough. Go check it out, you won’t regret it :))

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great place to buy high quality bird supplies. All of the birds there are very well cared for. I'd also really recommend them for boarding birds. We felt totally comfortable leaving our nervous sun conure there while we were on vacation. He did great and they were so good with him!

We board our Blue and Gold here when we go out of town and we always pick her up healthy and happy. She seems to really enjoy being with her neighbor birds while boarding here. This place also has a great selection of bird toys, treats, perches, etc. Staff is awesome.

Irma I believe her name was, was very friendly and a great help!!! We were in the store for about an hour before deciding on a bird to take home and she happily helped us the entire time even showing us cages, food, toys...I do understand the other reviews though and there was another girl that came in, looked like it was the last place on earth she wanted to be, so maybe it is hit or miss, but I'm glad we went! We hit a home run with this place and the kids love their new bird!!!

I highly recommend this shop for healthy, hand-fed baby birds. They will also safely board your pet birds. Knowledgeable, caring staff. Great variety of supplies. It's fun just to go see the amazing birds!

The people here are phenomena and truly made my day. After a disastrous experience at a large retail pet chain, I brought my great aunt here for a canary. The canary is adorable, healthy, and has been obviously very well cared for. Don't bother buying from retail chains - - for small birds go to a breeder like Bird is the Word if you want a truly happy and healthy pet!!

Hands down the best birds. The birds are all handled, maintained, and cared for consistently and it shows. Hands down the best experience I've ever had going and visiting my bird that their hand feeding. Educated staff, great supplies, food, cages, accessories. We have gotten all of our birds from this store, wonderful birds but the birds are not the problem. Picking our birds up from boarding my husband and I noticed how some of the teenage staff members are not good with customer service. We understand they have a lot to learn but standing and watching a customer struggle while packing up their cage and not offering help is unacceptable. Some staff members are excellent people but a few need some customer service help.

If you're looking for a pet bird, this is the place to go. I have a cockatiel who came from them and has been a wonderful addition to the family. They have a great selection of exotic species as well as all the accessories that go with at great prices, with helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Bird is the Word is THE bird store to serve all your bird store needs. The staff has always been very kind and knowledgeable. We bought our cockatiel Cloud two years ago from the store, and we continue to get food for him here, including pellets, spray millet, and seeds. They also have a great selection of handmade bird-safe toys and other bird amenities like cuttlebones and treats. We get his nails trimmed each month which they allow to be done for a very reasonable fee on the weekends. In addition, they offer bird boarding services. Considering how hard it is to find someone who can accommodate all the specific needs of an exotic bird, it’s wonderful to have these specialists watch and care for our bird. We just came back from a week long vacation and they did a great job at keeping our bird happy and healthy.

6 years ago I got my Senegal parrot from Bird is the Word for $375. I just called them to check the price on another one since his buddy passed a couple months ago.....THEY WANT $1900 NOW!!! I understand the price of everything has gone up, but a 5x price increase is insanity. I will never be returning there.

Been going to this place for years now to get my kids their nails and wings trimmed.Have been extremely happy with their except these last few times I would say in a years time. There has been several newbies ..What Happened to the young man that's used to do a great job?? He also had a Grey .Driving the hour drive is very dissapointing when I spend so much money on trims and birds get home and wallah they fly just as good as before.Very unsatisfied customer! This place used to be the go to place.What Happened??Get peoples in there that know what they're doing .That Old Man its Very Rough with the birds!! Just Sayin

Great looking store I look forward to visiting it someday!Do you really provide and feed the wild birds bread? Because the flour and sugar in bread causes "Angle Wing" its a horrible condition that breaks their wings and causes them not to be able to fly. And once an adult bird has it they can't be cured. Babies can be fixed with a brace but that's if someone is nice enough to take care of them. I have found 3 large geese this summer with Angel Wing along the fox river. Just north of the Geneva dam. Unfortunately I haven't found anyone who will help them. So I'm spreading the warning instead.

Absolutely love this shop! We have been coming here for years, and while we were on our cruise in February for 8 days they took AMAZING care of my 2 ringnecks! They were so kind and reassuring during the whole process and sending me pictures throughout my vacation showing me, they were okay. They always have the kindest employees, and the best selection of toys and food! Also, birds are super friendly and healthy. Highly recommend this store. If I could give them more stars I would! Love going to bird is the word!!

Love this place! My husband and I brought our cockatiel Bebe home from here not to long ago! He's not afraid of being handled at all, and they make sure their birds get fruit and veggies as well as seeds and other food for a well balanced diet. Our little guy is happy and healthy, and we've had great experiences with the store's products as well. Speaking of, they have a great selection of food, toys, and cages/ cage maintenance products, not to mention all of the different birdies they raise! It's a bit of a trek from where we live, but we gladly make the trip to support them :)

Best place to go for bulk food and seeds. Birds they sell are all verified from breeders and normal priced. Toys and perches are a bit pricey compared to Amazon, but sometimes it's best to shop local! They are pretty good at giving bird advice in times of question, and the people who work there are usually pretty helpful!
