Review Date: September 14th, 2014Where diabetic dreams come true.Every town has a few things: A Casey’s gas station. A Subway Restaurant. A Dollar General store. Lastly, a locally-owned ice cream shack. Any small town will have a combination of these things, if not all. Bartonville is a smaller town that happens to have their own ice cream shack. I am not sure about the others but that isn’t why we are here today. Today, we are here to talk about a place where diabetics dream about. A place that causes diabetes. A place that your sweet tooth (or teeth) dream of.The Dream Hut is like many ice cream shacks. It is nestled in a smaller standalone building that has a store front where you can walk up and place your order and then awkwardly mingle with everyone else that is standing around. The store front is wide enough to accommodate a place to order and a place to pick your food up. Their menu is plastered on the glass where you order and you can stand off to the side and gawk over it without standing entirely in the way of people who have dreamt here before.On a cold day, a few of us decided to take a trip to this hut to see if we could order something dreams are made of. Around this time in my life, I was hopelessly dreaming about Peanut Butter Malts or anything similar. In a confession, I have a terrible peanut butter addiction that continues to this day and for the rest of my life. Upon arriving, I knew I needed something peanut butter-y. Glancing over the menu, I was drawn to the Peanut Butter Cup Blitz and I knew that was the thing my dreams were made of.One sip… well, what can be had for a sip as slurping a thick Blitz through a straw is entirely nightmarish… I knew I hit something good. The Blitz had a nice chocolate/peanut butter blend that can only be described properly by scientists and clairvoyants. Absolutely delectable. My friend Matt ordered the same thing and he rather enjoyed his drink/meal, but not nearly on the level of mine. Devin ordered a simple ice cream cone but even that put a huge smile on her face.Despite the change of the season and that nightfall was quickly approaching, the Dream Hut was everything I could dream in a ice cream place and more. While I only had the one item from their menu on this one and only visit, I would assume the rest of their offerings are just as good. I would like to revisit and try other menu items in the future.Still to this day, I dream of that Peanut Butter Cup Blitz…

We had 6 pork tenderloin sandwiches and a few fries between 7adults, a good eating teen and a toddler.Food was hot, clean, fast and in a great portion. This is not fancy food, but it was good eating at a fair price.Many of us had ice cream, floats, or sodas.It is just a tiny ice cream hut, but they offer some really nice hot food quickly. It was lightly raining but warm and they had a very nice covered picnic style dining area with three large tables.I was sad to see it was so slow as it was the perfect day for ice cream.We will definitely stop there again next time we find ourselves in town. Next time I will get pictures.

Best value you can find for ice cream. Staff is quick and we've never had an order messed up. Great selection of items. For a local ice cream stand and food spot you'd be hard pressed to find better.

The service here is lightning quick. My grill order was ready in approximately 5 minutes and it was properly cooked and very good. The menu is fairly extensive for your typical ice cream stand and there is a large selection of items from which to choose. The prices are very reasonable. There is outdoor seating on picnic tables with a roof to block the sun and rain. A place to go for good food and a good experience.

So excited, first dream hut stop of the year. Everything has changed. Chili sauce for chili dogs taste like a metal can. Seems like a different cheaper hot dog, defintely less flavor.I was very disappointed I'll be back but not at the rate of 3 time a week. You'll be lucky if i come there 3 times the entire summer

I've loved this place for years. I'm pretty sure ownership has traded hands a few times but the experience and quality has always been about the same and very good. It seems like they tend to employ a younger group. Very awesome that they do in an area where younger people don't have a ton of choices. Highly recommend and always love coming here. The only issue is that it's so good that it's become hard to find a parking spot sometimes.

The ice cream is better than DQ and more affordable too. It isn't unusual to see a long line outside waiting for their ice cream.They have had a $5 minimum for credit card purchases. There is now a surcharge too. This may have been around for awhile. I'm not use to paying for my order as this is typically a family stop! 😂The only thing missing here is a drive through. They are kind of landlocked so I understand but I would love one.

Very very rude workers. I've never been treated so bad. I'm sorry if I have to listen to the workers bad mouth the Manger all I wanted was to order my family some ice cream. I think it's very rude for workers to cuss and bad mouth others when customers can hear. Never going back and I will be letting everyone I know about this. I'm going back to Dairy Queen. They are so sweet and you never hear them complain. I would rather pay a little more and be treated wonderful then to pay less and have to hear people cuss and bad mouth each other and be rude to customers

There reasonable prices & will have too try again with another treat.I had the fresh fruit pineapple slush it was good..The tenderloins are my favorite. My husband loves the burgers.I wish they add fried chicken too the menu or consider doing so..

The truth is the food is very good when you go there at lunch. Secondly when it appears one of the owners are behind the grill.We have been 3 times now 7:30, just before they shut the grill down. The food has came out not correct. Or one if their staples chili cheese dog the chili was refrigerator cold. You pay $30 with tip for dinner for 2 people youwant ut to be just as good as lunch.

Always a staple in Bartonville. Fantastic chili dogs and hot tamales. Wonderful "blitz" ice cream with mix ins. Never had an order that was wrong! Has been there since I was a kid and has remained the same.

The service is always quick and the food is freshly made for each order. The best selection of blitz (blizzard-like ice cream) flavors. I'm always sad when they close for the winter and so excited when they open in the spring.

This is the best ice cream you will ever eat. The lemon cone is to die for, and Dream Hut is the only ice cream shop that has it. I hear strawberry is great too, but I just have to have my lemon! Had one today, in case the weather keeps getting colder and they close for the winter. They also have many sandwiches and a large selection of yummy things. Chili dog specials, bbq and really good fries!

Great place to go for ice cream or a quick lunch. I love the bratwurst and my daughter loves the hot dogs. Definitely a place to get slushies that last a while and so many different flavors to choose from. I also love that's within walking distance from my house.

Given that business was steady when I went, the employees were very rude and disrespectful. Three separate customers before me asked questions and got completely ignored as if they weren't even standing there. Now I know they're all like 15 so I'll give them a break, but management really needs to step up.And that's my Karen comment for the day.Update: Seems to have gotten better. Staff was friendly the last time I went.

I just purchased a large blitz. I asked to call in the order first because I am having knee surgery soon and can’t stand for very long. The girl just said no and hung up. Now, I’m eating my $7 blitz and the ice cream is like crystallized. Like if you were to put it in the freezer and eat it later. My family and I have been eating there for as long as I can remember. It just gets more expensive and the young kids they have working there just get worse and worse every year.Never again.

Great ice cream, nice little place just like many and pa places that I've always loved. Although we didn't try any they had a large menu. Will definitely go back again.
