While I appreciate the idea of Paws, I can't help but feel this place uses their animals to elicit donations, not to find them their forever home. To basically come out and say they don't have any dogs that would fit our family, without even knowing one iota about us is a slap to the face. Any dog would be beyond blessed to be a part of our family and would be living life to the fullest. Judging by the reviews, this place needs someone with heart running it, not someone looking for the almighty dollar.

Kari and the staff at PAWS are truly wonderful! Patient and kind with both people and pets! We adopted both our dogs from PAWS and had great experiences both times!

Picked up Dottie yesterday and it couldn’t have been a better experience. Karee was wonderful and obviously cares about her “babies”.

Terrible experience! Found the dog that we wanted and they wouldn’t approve the application. Said the dog wasn’t a good fit but really was discrimination because of being a senior citizen. This place is a SCAM!

Recently adopted our second pet from PAWS (a beautiful cat named Iva; we also have a dog we renamed Bella that we adopted from there 5 years prior) and had a wonderful experience again. I personally have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experience with this shelter and all the effort and care they put into ensuring their animals find the best home and placement possible. I think it’s easy to forget that the welfare of the animal is the most important aspect of an adoption process and not our personal desires.I applaud the staff at PAWS for doing thorough background checks on all applicants and taking the time to make sure that their animals go to their forever homes; it really is in the best interests of everyone involved. Taking care of animals that humans cast aside is no easy task, and I give them kudos for the amazing things they do behind the scenes everyday and for continuing to unite people like myself with our new forever best friends.

Lady does not want to adopt dogs out and no one is around very often.

Place is the cleanest adoption center I've ever set foot in. Owners are extremely nice and welcoming. Highly recommend this establishment for anyone interested in adopting a pet

While I appreciate the fact that PAWS does extensive background checks for their pets, I find some of the foster families questionable. I was looking to adopt Billy Bob who is a senior pet and has been in foster care for 2+ years. I am a veterinary assistant and was given glowing recommendations from my employers, I sent copies of my previous pets' medical records and reiterated that my apartment complex allowed pets. Karee denied my application in February for Billy Bob (who is STILL available for adoption) and Billy Bob has gained a significant amount of weight while under her care. I am convinced she is using shelter resources to claim to foster him and deny any applicants. Karee replied to my inquiry about being denied by saying that I do not know what I'm doing with my life. As someone currently in the animal medical field, I was astounded that she would dismiss my dedication to animals entirely. I think Karee is unfit to be a foster parent and PAWS should heavily discuss whether or not she should continue to be a part of this organization. After being denied, I traveled over 2 hours to adopt a 3 year old dog from Partners for Pets and he is loving his new home. On top of the already stellar care I provide for him, he attends weekly training classes still and he even has his own medical insurance. If that is not what a proper pet parent looks like, I can't imagine the hoops prospective adopters need to jump through to adopt from Karee.

I think that the concept of paws is wonderful and I also think that the owner is a great person for doing this for animals. Now as far as some of the workers are concerned they need a serious attitude adjustment. My daughter went in there to find out if they might have possibly had her missing cat. The lady working became very hateful with her and would not even let her check in the back to see if she was there. As she tried to describe her, the lady acted like she was getting annoyed with her. She then proceeded to tell her that she just needed to give up looking. That she was more than likely gone. Yes my daughter is 17 years old but that just absolutely uncalled for. She loves her animals as if they are her children. And there is no reason for someone to treat another person with such disrespectful because they're looking for their lost pet.

Well run no-kill animal shelter. I got my dog there in 2006 and am forever grateful. She has a heart condition and in a "normal" shelter she would have been euthanized immediately. 12 years later we are still together, thank you PAWS for giving her a chance 💕 i should also add that the shelter is clean and well run.

We adopted Charlie a f r w weeks after losing our basset hound to lung cancer. The experience was easy, but very thorough. These ladies care about the dogs and are not in it just for money. We would definitely adopt here again.

I had a great adoption at PAWS yesterday. The ladies there were very nice, but thorough. It is good to see someone care so much. They had obviously been taking good care of the cats & dogs, and we are grateful for "Molly", the newest member of our family.

Adopted “Little Man” from paws and Karee. She was exceptional and the entire process was informed and thorough but simple. You can tell they really care about placing the animals in their forever homes. Will highly recommend to anyone seeking a forever friend.

Asked about relocating a female cat with a medical issue for my family. She had been taken to a humane society, but I was looking for a no-kill shelter to keep her safe. Lady on the phone said everyone across the river that she knows of is full, and explained to me the entire process of since the owners 'surrendered' her to the facility, its up to them and their own decision to do what they think is best for the cat. Well it was still my families and i told her I would relocate her to somewhere that wouldn't euthanize her. No help at all. All she could tell me was why animals were euthanized at humane societies. Like I didn't know

I wanted to say thank you for totally and completely ignoring my calls (four calls, three voice mails) regarding the Siamese cat. It would appear that your commitment to the care of stray animals is, well, non-existent. Luckily I found St. Francis CARE in Murphysboro who were more than happy to help me, and they are now my shelter of choice for charitable donations.

I adopted my Bernese mountain dog Bear (Baron) from PAWS in 2006. He had been kept outside and alone for a year. The staff told me that he was friendly, but he needed to learn manners. This was evidenced when he started to chew on my hemp purse before we left the building : ) He quickly adapted to indoor life and I quickly moved any food off of the kitchen counter. He was a big boy (125 pounds) and ate numerous non-food items at first. He had never been for a walk on a leash. On our first attempt to take him for a walk, neighbors who were outside laughed at me and my daughter. I was dismayed when I looked on line and saw that his breed's lifespan was about 7 years. Fortunately, we got into walking and hiking. Bear lived to be about 10 years old. I feel so blessed to have had him around for the extra 3 years even as his health and body began to deteriorate. He had become my best friend. He would follow me around the house and would even sit outside of the bathroom! He was a loyal, loving bundle of furry love. Bear died on August 27th, 2015. I miss him so much. When I was depressed he would lay next to me. We went through some difficult times together and some great times together. There is a path in the woods near my house. When we walked down the trail, he would do a little exploring, but he always checked to see where I was. He liked to wade in the small river. In February. I miss him so much. I have a lot of good memories, but I still cry over Bear every day. My house does not feel like a home without Bear. And my other dog, Dixie, who died on November 23rd, 2015. But that is a whole other story. I hope that sometime in the future, I will be able to provide a home for another dog. I swore I would never get a dog again after my dogs died, but if I ever get through some of this hideous grief maybe I will.

They are rude and judgemental. We you get a new pet it is hard to see if they are a fit for you in a few moments in that environment, at that price you should at least have 2 weeks to see if is a good fit, if not return with full refund. I tried it twice, found it a big waste of money, to get a dog that doesn't adjust well, the past treatment is important . Will always go to breeder for a puppy so I can raise them form the beginning

We adopted a precious Maltese from PAWS two years ago! She is simply darling and spoiled. They are doing a wonderful job of keeping animals from being euthanized. We will continue to support this great organization.

I have worked and was a board member of a shelter. And I ldon't want to be unkind .This shelter is run very differently .First I have never heard of a shelter that won't take dogs over ten pounds. If that is their policy it should be advertised as such Overall not a very friendly place

I'm not sure why this place is so highly rated. My wife and I went to look at the cats this week. The staff wasn't very helpful and left us to look on our own. All of the cats were in cages and were very fearful. The few we got out immediately bolted back to their cage or underneath them. They were also all infested with fleas. When we mentioned to the staff that the cats/kittens seems fearful they scoffed it off and said that they just wanted to get down to play and didn't want to be held.I guess a kitten scrambling to figure out how to get back in it's cage is "just wanting to play"....I doubt these animals are ever let out or given any attention. There was no noise separation from the dogs so I'm sure they're stressed all to hell.

They told us everything was fine to adopt a dog. I had forgot to put in our vet name & number. We drove a long way, thinking we were bringing home a lovable dog. We got there & they told us NO WAY!!! I even had our vet call them. They wouldn't take the call!!! They were Very Rude!!!!

Long history of warehousing animals. Animals literally at Paws for years. Their main focus is on procuring donations. Animal welfare is a distant second. Sad
