One of the many things that Dukes does well is birthday cakes. I walked in and bought this cake without ordering. it was around $50 and was delicious, moist, and really set the tone for an impromptu birthday party. If you’re not looking for a birthday party, they have a large number of other items. They have a large variety of donuts. My favorite is jelly. There’s something about the jelly donut that is not like other places. it’s not too sweet and the donut is not too big and it’s the best jelly donut around. if you want glaze, they are awesome as well. the chocolate long Johns delicious and the pastries are excellent. If Donuts or birthday cake is not what you’re looking for, then go for the cookies. Good variety and excellent taste. Then there are the pies. Cherry pie is my favorite. if you’re picking up donuts after school when you pick up the kids, chocolate milk and orange juice are also choices. I’ve gone there before at 3 o’clock and had a good variety of choices. By the way I forgot to mention how great the bread is. My son has gone by on Sunday morning and brought some home after church. It’s an iconic location on Henry Street an old neighborhood a large variety of people go in And the people that are helping are so kind and helpful. I highly recommend Dukes if you are looking for any kind of baked item

Wow! I definitely saved the best for last! I finally visited Duke Bakery's first location for this week's episode of the STL Donut Tour and I loved every one of their donuts! Amazingly soft and buttery, great flavor, perfect texture- you have got to try their donuts here! Spectacular!

Bought a half sheet cake for my sons 12th birthday. It was the most flavorful sheet cake ever and the whipped cream icing was perfect. We also picked up a fruit pizza for breakfast. It was super yummy.

I've lived in Alton for over 50+ years. My parents would stop by Dukes on our way home from church and get yum yum for me and my siblings. The freshest, softest melt in your mouth, not overly sugared glazed but the right amount donuts I have ever experienced in all my years. Still a tiny, tight fit atmosphere, but it's perfect to serve just what you need. Always greeted with kindness. Don't change a thing.

First time ever going here since I decided to support local bakeries this thanksgiving instead of Walmart. Their pumpkin pie is homemade, and absolutely delicious. Prices were more expensive than your regular grocery store pie, but only by a few bucks. Totally worth it. Location is convenient and beautiful. Store is clean and well organized. Lots of pies, donuts, cakes, you name it. Staff is super nice, always attentive and ready to help you! You can tell there is pride in what they do here. I’ll continue to support them and you should definitely try them out!

Oh I found a new place. Walking around Alton, IL yesterday because it was just beautiful outside. We came across this gem. No indoor seating, which is a plus because it's so tempting to order more. They do have a covered outdoor seating area to enjoy. So what did I order, just about all the small sample size pastries. Wow were they good. As many times as I've been through Alton and it took me this long to find it.

Tried getting a birthday cake, I have a torn TCL, it was impossible to make it in the store. I struggled for 10 minutes as the people behind the counter just gawked. This was my favorite bakery because it was really good food but after the embarrassment I can never go back. So disappointing.Wheelchair accessibility: No accessibility. Didn’t buy anything because I couldn’t enter. Staff just gawked as I struggled outside to enter. Gave up after 15 minutes, no birthday cake bought.

The lady at the counter was really nice and super patient as I came in with my son. I tried a bunch of different things and some were a little lackluster but the donuts and tea cookies are really good and they have a little chocolate cake with nuts, brown sugar and chocolate drizzle which tasted great. The strawberry cream horn was kinda disappointing though.

Duke Bakery is top tier! Their breads are absolutely amazing. I've enjoyed a lot of their cookies and pastries; but, I haven't tried their cakes. They carry a locally famous cheesecake brand, I can't remember the name of it. The aesthetic of the building is really awesome. They even have an Instagram worthy art installation out front.

Dukes really came through for me! I needed 2 vanilla cupcakes with plain white buttercream and pink on the inside for a gender reveal. I called The Cup (in Edwardsville) and they were closed, I called Schnucks and they said they would need DAYS in advance for "an order like that" ... okay its 2 cupcakes. I called Walmart and they said no matter how small the order is the need 24-48 hours, I called Sams club and they said they wouldn't because of a "cupcake shortage". There is no cupcake shortage at dukes bakery and I promise they probably taste better. I wish I had more! I called and they said to come pick it up in a couple hours, I was shocked! They were incredibly nice about it too. Will be placing an order with them for my daughters birthday party. I can't remember who took my order in the morning but they were SO nice, and Tara at the counter when I picked them up was super nice. I will be a repeat customer from here on out. Also, I would like to say I am not sure if they can always do last minute orders like that all the time, but call and ask! :)

Seriously! You need to stop here!! This was recommended by a local and they were so right! This is your ideal vision of a bakery. Every donut and dessert you have ever dreamed of. Cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, macarons, canolis... We bought it all! And it was so so so good! This is a must stop from now on! I am so glad we made the trip just for this stop alone.

I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter she turned 25. She lives In Missouri and I scheduled to pick it up between 6am and 8am on set day but when I went at 6am the girl who took my order had written down the wrong time. So my cake was not done! But the owner was amazing and he knew I had to get going to Missouri and I didn’t have time to wait. So he drove over 2 hours to Ironton Missouri and delivered my cake so I would have it for my daughters birthday!! He went above and beyond and I would recommend this bakery to anyone interested in any baked goods!! And the cake was absolutely delicious

One of the best! I love taking my boys here on Fridays for a treat. They always have a wide selection and are always super friendly. They also have the best cream horns in the area!
