I own a horseback riding business in Island Park, Idaho. The Idaho Horseshoeing School use my horses for their students to learn how to shoe. During the winter, they trim some and shoe some of the horses. During the spring summer and fall, the shoeing school keeps my horses shod at all times. In the summertime I run 80+ horses with my business and when the horses come back up to my ranch, after being shoed at the school, their hooves and shoes are picture perfect. I have nothing but praise for the owners and instructors of the shoeing school.

Currently enrolled here. Finishing up my 16wk course. Great instructors, great experience and great education. Nice barn and living areas. There is also all day access to a gym. We currently start the day off with a 30min group workout before class and before horses arrive. The education is endless. You really get to see a lot of the best and worst parts of the industry here. This school gives you the best foundation to go forward and begin a career as a farrier.

I attend this school. The instructors are very knowledgeable. They feed us, answer all our questions, and give us a nice house to live in. I am getting a lifetime of education and experience in just 16 short weeks!!!

Near the end of the 16 week program-I love the instructors here. They are very knowledgeable and helpful and each have their own strengths whether it’s horsemanship, trimming/shoeing, or help with forging. Good well rounded horseshoeing education!

I took the 16 week course at Idaho Horseshoeing School. It was one of, if not the best educational experience of my life. I knew nothing about horses before coming to this school, yet I learned more than I thought was possible in the 16 weeks I was there. There is no better way to start your journey as a farrier.

Coming to Idaho horseshoeing school was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Riley and his wife, Ashton, have treated me like family. If you have drive and the want to learn, you can easily leave ready for certification and with confidence. Good food, good friends, and an awesome living situation. I’ve felt spoiled here! This school is awesome. Riley and his wife take care of us and students can have a great relationship with him. They definitely care about each student here. They provide two meals everyday for us and the housing is great. As far as the horse shoeing goes it’s a very hands on and Riley gives us plenty of horses to shoe and lots of time to practice on the forge. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a good shoeing school. My experience has been great here!

Going to the Idaho horseshoeing school is definitely one of the better decisions I’ve made. The instructors are helpful and experienced and there is a great supply of horses to give you the full learning experience.

I highly recommend the school, Riley and his wife are really nice people. I wasn’t expecting day one to be under a horse, let alone hot shoe. But I really loved that! I definitely learned A LOT in the week I was there compared to learning under a farrier/reading books. I unfortunately had to leave short notice for a job, so I can’t say I was there for 2 weeks.You definitely don’t cut any corners when shoeing at his school, it was really nice to actually learn the right way. Riley and his best students are there to help you whenever you need help or have questions on a foot. Everyone in general is pretty helpful and kind.I’ll definitely would go again for the two week course because it was such a great learning experience!

The whole staff is wonderful and helpful. It was very hands on which was great for me learning this skill. They also make sure you fully understand the anatomy of how the horse works so you can be more competent of what you are shoeing for. They provide housing and most of your meals for you. Highly recommend this school.

Staff is really attentive to student life by ensuring students are comfortable in the housing situation and provide delicious, filling lunches. Students have to work hard in an environment that is made as comfortable as possible for the nature of work. Standards are high and a willing, knowledgeable staff will take an aspiring farrier as far as they are willing to go. If you are willing to work hard and learn a valuable trade in a place that is very hands on with the learning process, this will be a great fit. If you are averse to hard work, uncomfortable with horses, and look for excuses to compensate for your inabilities and unwillingness to work hard to improve your skill set, this isn’t the place for you.

Great hands on learning. I went from knowing nothing about how to shoe a horse to getting under a horse on the first day. As well as forging shoes, trimming hooves, and nailing shoes on in less than a couple days. I am continuously learning more and getting and getting better at all aspects of horseshoeing under the guidance of all of the awesome instructors.

I would have to say I have enjoyed my time here, I went to the Wyoming school of horseshoeing a couple years ago and I would say I have had quite a bit of review from what I learned previously but I have also learned a lot here at idaho horseshoeing. Riley and his wife are very kind and professional. Riley has taught us so much and allows us to help each other that helps me learn much faster to help someone who is struggling with their work.
