I love this shelter! The staff is so kind and you can tell they truly care about the animals and finding them their forever homes. We adopted the sweetest little cat and I’m so happy to know she had great care before we found her.

We had a good experience here. The staff was very friendly and answered questions about a couple of kittens. I wanted to make sure the kittens picked us too. We spent almost 2 hours at the shelter trying to decide which cats would be a good fit. It does smell a bit but there are a lot of animals there. The areas were clean and the cats/kittens were sweet. I was overwhelmed and wanted to give all of them a great home. We did take two kittens from different areas. We’ve had them about 3 weeks now. They appreciate us giving them a cozy home. So glad the kittens get along and sleep together and wrestle. We’re glad that they can keep each other company when we go for walks or errands. They’re entertaining! We love our new pets and they love us back. Lots of cuddles. We renamed them, Chicken is named Taz (he isn’t Chicken at all) and Forest is named Simba. Hope you consider adopting from this shelter if you would like a new roommate or two.Yes, they have their own drink cup in the sofa arm rest. Spoiled! They love it and use it constantly.

I am very impressed and comforted knowing that any pet that goes through Priest River animal rescue gets top notch compassionate care. Please adopt your forever friend here, you will be happy and loved. I have fostered 2 kitten litters for them and they provide very positive support for fosters and the animals they care about.

So friendly and helpful! We used the PetFinder app to find our cat, Binx. We live in Spokane and we pre-adopted over the phone and drove to Priest River Animal Rescue in Idaho. Easy drive, only about an hour. They have a great staff and they take care of their animals. Go check it out!

I absolutely fell in love with a kitten here (to the point I cried when I made eye contact with her, that kind of instant connection), and have been planning on getting a cat & talking with my partner about it for months now. I met all their requirements, did the entire adoption process, and then was turned down at the last moment by the volunteer for not being a good fit because… I have a dog. And apparently seemed like the type to “return the kitten when she’s not cute anymore.”On top of this all, the volunteer was incredibly rude and patronizing, and when she saw I was visibly sad & disappointed because I was denied, said that I could just come to the shelter to pet kittens and “get my fix” like everyone else does. Because OBVIOUSLY I was just sad over not getting a cute kitten !!! (sarcasm). She talked down to me our entire exchange, and treated me like a child, despite being a 21 year old adult who has previously owned and currently has a cat. Including warning me about the fact that cats live up to and over 15 years.Don’t go here. They’ll treat you like a toddler and then shoot you down anyways.

Unsanitary, smelled badly of feces, more so than what you should expect at a shelter. All of the cats are housed very closely together, which is good to know the cats do well with other cats, but seems to breed a nervous atmosphere with the cats being more skittish than to be expected. Unprofessional, seems only one lady (Brook I believe) knows anything about the animals. We had our heart set on a cat but couldn't pick her up til the next day, we were an hour drive away, we got there as soon as open and someone called right before we walked in to let us know she was adopted, which would have been helpful to know the night before when she was adopted! They do not allow any sort of hold even if it is the same day, which is ridiculous, yet they have signs that say "not for adoption," so some animals are on hold but we weren't allowed one? Definitely do not recommend this shelter.

Your not a rescue thought like you claim to be. You don't have rescue services like it states under your name. It's false. A rescue rescues animals not turn them away. This is not a rescue it's barley a shelter. A animal rescue as they claim to be by their name will assist in rescuing any animal and they dont. They were rude and very unhelpful. Refused to help with the rescue I have. Was told they don't help feral cats to be told but another gal that they have had them in before but couldn't tell that they were feral it took a couple days to find out.

I would like to start by saying that I gave 2 stars, simply because the animals at the Priest River Animal Rescue are very well taken care of and most of the staff is pleasant to interact with. Unfortunately, their front desk receptionist is not so pleasant to interact with. My husband and I were in search of a cat that could be an indoor/outdoor cat, with it's outdoor time being spent in the garage (which is heated in the winter, for those who are concerned). Our application also stated that we have two dogs, one of which is not fond of cats, he has never done anything to one, he's just not a fan. (We currently have a cat that has lived with us for one year now, and we have not had any negative interactions between the two.) Anyway, we were very honest and up front about the intended housing for the cat and our current menagerie of pets, but Pat (the receptionist) was not happy about the cat being in the garage or the fact that we have a dog that dislikes cats. But, instead of interviewing us based on the information that we provided on our application, or even attempting to converse with us to glean a little more information concerning our intentions with the cat, she denied us. Which is their right, however, I would be able to understand her actions a little more if she had gone through the steps that I listed above. All of our pets are shelter animals, so I'm not new to the process of adopting a pet, but I have never had an interaction like this with a staff member at a shelter. I called and spoke to a supervisor (Carrie) and informed her of our interaction with the receptionist so that, hopefully, no one else will have to deal with this. I appreciate all volunteers, as I know that it's hard to find good people to give their free time willingly. However, when your volunteer staff is impacting the mission of your organization (i.e. finding homes for pets), it may be time for some retraining or attempting to find new volunteer staff.***Thank you for the response. However, if Pat had given us this explanation the day that we had come into the shelter, we would have accepted it and moved on. Now, it just boils down to rude staff and telling us to go elsewhere to adopt a cat. Good luck!

We have been here several times before finally finding the cat we wanted, when we decided to get him the receptionist said that we were not “qualified” to buy him. On arrival we told the workers that we were looking for a cat that can hunt and it will live in our empty heated garage that has a play area from our other cat. We then decided that I would take it to live in my house because it was too young and not the cat my family was looking for. When we went back to pick it up the receptionist said that we could not buy it because it needs to stay inside, we then explained to her that it’s going to live with me. Instead of letting us have the cat she rudely said she’d have to talk to her manager and then handed us a pre-adoption paper that they had never told us about and pushed us out the door. It is absolutely ridiculous to let a cat sit in a shelter than to let a perfect family take it home and love it.

Don't get your hopes up. I was very disappointed with this organization and would have given them 1 star if they didn't care for animals. After reviewing their felines on-line, speaking with their staff over the phone, and filling out a 3 page application, the drive was made from Spokane to Priest River (1hr 10min Approx). The staff was friendly enough and we choose a cat that we loved and adored. We were then informed that the "Board" would need to review our application and that they would bring the animal to us in Spokane if the "Board" approved. The next day they came as promised, but then conducted an inspection of our house and yard, then re-interviewed (more like grilled) us about our ability to care for the cat. We were a little confused with the depth of their inquires, but didn't feel worried since we are both great people, have cared for animals in the past, and live in a nice area with a fenced yard. They told us that they needed to call the "Board" again after speaking with us, and proceeded to their car. 5-10 minutes later (which seemed like forever waiting on their verdict) the car drove off and our phone rang, it was them. They told us that they didn't feel comfortable leaving the cat in our care since we stated that we would let him outside when he wanted out, and that they should have Googled our house since we lived in a busy area. We disagreed with them, stating that we could keep the cat indoors (time the animal spends outside was covered in the application) and that we do not live in a busy area, to which they replied "you live in Spokane". What? Really? Then why even traumatize the cat with that long of drive if they already knew we live in Spokane? And whats up with a phone call? It was extremely rude of them to chicken out with a phone call and not tell us to our face. My fiancee spent the night crying thinking we were unfit to care for a cat, while these people would rather keep an animal caged up for over a year then give them a happy home to run and play in.We went to the Humane Society to adopt and I can't say enough good things about our experience with the Humane Society. Don't waste your time with the Priest River Folks. They have separation issues.

I can't say enough good things about the rescue and their volunteers HOWEVER, I was very disappointed today with the thrift store volunteers. I felt they were very unappreciative of my donation and that I was actually bothering them. Yes, they were busy and yes, they are only volunteers but there are other deserving thrift stores. This brought my rating down.

DO NOT bring a cat home without them blood testing it!!! I had a healthy cat then I brought another home from P.R. animal shelter and this one brought FIP with it. FIP is equivalent to HIV in people, but not transferable inter species. Now I have 2 infected cats! $305 vet bill to start with and if I go away on vacation I can't take my cats anywhere or mine will infect the others through licking, scratching, drinking from the water bowl, or sharing the food dish. The cats may never show signs of this disease but infect every other cat they come into contact with. It's a death sentence disease. For the price you pay to adopt blood tests should be done AND since 1 cat has it in the facility the rest or a high percentage also have it. It's highly contagious. Quarantine doesn't do anything to stop this. If they don't show symptoms they assume they are okay when they may not be. The carrier can infect the rest without their knowledge. They are not trying to be informed either. PEOPLE NEED TO SPAY THEIR CATS instead of overrunning these shelters! Be responsible people they have clinics to get this done.

What a wonderful place to find a new cat or dog. The animals are so well cared for and the volunteers do such an awesome job. My friend and I made the trip from over 50miles away and both adopted a new cat.

Apparently Mike 21 has hit rock bottom, I have been deemed unfit to care for a cat. There was a woman I'll call "Pat", as soon as I spoke she was obviously concerned when I said the cat would be living in the garage and have access to the outdoors. After the 2 page application was filled out "Pat" insisted that my home was unfit because I have a dog that doesn't like cats... even though we currently have a cat?!? Like most other people have said, they don't really seem to want to find homes for the animals. So not only was this a complete waste of a day, "Pat" made this a horrible experience treating me like I intended to abuse this animal. Then "Pat" told me to go to Colville and get one of their cats because they have plenty. So apparently Colville cats are better to feed dogs than PR cats.

This is an amazing place with the kindest people ever! They took such good care of my babies when someone decided to take them there rather than care for them while I was out of town. My babies were all healthy and happy when I was finally reunited.

If there was less than 1 star I would choose it. I called today in desperate need for assist in an unhealthy feral cat overload situation. The only options they had were to call someone else. When I told them I don't have the money to try to capture all 12+ cats, and take to Spokane and pay surrender fees I was openly judged. When I told them I had no way of taking care of these diseased feral cats, and that my father, who is being treated for advanced stage cancer right now, couldn't be around the urine and feces, and that my last resort would be to take them out in the woods,, she THOUGHT she put me on hold, told the other woman I didn't want to put out the money for them, and was called inhumane and I was openly judged. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!

The best place to go shopping for 2nd hand clothing and household items. If you are looking for a new pet they have some pretty amazing animals, but please be ready to be a forever home if you decide to get one. Go check this place out you won't be disappointed.

Never would I have expected to be treated so rudely for trying to give a dog a good home and get it out of a shelter. I am baffled at the interactions I have had with the staff. To be told the dog is better off there than in my home by someone who doesn't even know me is beyond infuriating. Extremely disappointed.

There was no signs saying we can't look at the kittens from outside the gate. A VERY rude cleaning lady tells my kids that they can't look at the kittens. Im not doing any business at this Rescue with such rude employees!
