Stayed in tiny home #2 it was perfect for my birthday with my two kids. Pull out couch futon was decently comfortable and the bed was too! The kitchen was stocked enough and was clean and cozy. Check in was a breeze and so was checking out. Glad we brought our extra pillows and blankets for perfect comfort! Thanks again and we will be back!

The staff was great and the location was convenient but what they don't tell you is that the hotel is not all in one there is 5 separate buildings not counting the tiny homes and they do not have pictures of rooms 9-12 they did not have pictures of the outside. They also charge 150 at check-in for a cleaning deposit it is refundable but it's nowhere listed on their website. The bed was super hard and the blankets were scratchy and they only give you 3 thin pillows

The rooms are adequate though superfluous. I would prefer to sleep in the private hot pool. In the winter there is never anyone there. The tree branches create a canopy above the pool. And the nearby rivers' calm flow lends to the soaking experience. It is the ideal spot to decompress and sweat out the city. Try rolling in the snow and then jumping back in the hot pool a few times. That is when the magic happens.

I stayed for one night in November. I had a family room that was in front of the Street and was a little noisy because you could hear people walking down the street late at night. The room was very small. The toilet was in a separate tiny room. I paid a little over $150 for this room and I wish I hadn’t. It did have a mini fridge, microwave and air conditioner. The person at the front office was friendly. Location was perfect to get to the hot springs and it also had its own hot pool that was open early morning and closed late at night. I would stay here again but in a different room that doesn’t feel so compact.

Our accommodations for the weekend were very nice. Highly recommend this place. Nice, affordable, and right in the center of town making it easy to walk almost anywhere.Walkability: All the best restaurants and the hot pots are all withing walking distance. The best part? They have their own hot pool on site and a spa with massages and other services!

Super cute quaint hotel. We stayed in the courtyard room with private mineral hot tub on the patio. It was quiet, safe and all the locals were so welcoming. The property is close to everything a simple one minute walk to the bars and restaurants. My only complaint is our room did not have a thermostat or any way to control heating or the A/C, our room was freezing cold during the night. However If you’re looking for a relaxing place to stay and unwind this is it. Thanks again for everyone’s hospitality and all the helpful friendly staff, we will be back again!

This place is wonderful! Cindy was an absolute delight before, during and after the check in process. She was so kind and inviting and just went absolutely beyond expectations. I can’t say enough about Cindy! Our tiny home was adorable and located right next to a large open field. The hot pool was clean and a perfect temperature! The location of the hotel itself is wonderful. Right in the center of town and walking distance to pretty much everything. I would highly recommend! And again thanks to Cindy!

Clean and updated rooms. Front and rear entry doors are convenient. Open your front door to the Main Street! Fridge/freezer and microwave in our room with comfortable beds. Would like to have an extra pillow, which I’m sure would’ve been available by request had I realized I needed one before midnight.Nearby activities: Hot pools and floating the river are the main attraction in town!Food & drinks: Nearby local bars and restaurants are wonderful. Check out the new Eruption Brewing Company, Thai food at the end of the main drag; the Wagon Wheel Bar across the street, as well as the Chuck Wagon Restaurant— love their breakfast and lunch!

5 stars for Margie and getting a last-minute couples massage scheduled for us. Unfortunately, a family emergency made us unable to make the appointment. Appreciate Margie's understanding.

My family stayed here and rented a few rooms one which was dog friendly. We brought both of our dogs and paid the $60 a night per dog for two nights service fee. When we checked out they went and cleaned our room and called us and said “the dog hair was so bad they needed to charge us $450 to replace the carpet.” Remind you the carpet was very disgusting and we didn’t even want our child crawling/walking on it. We are very disappointed with the customer service they provided and how they are treating us after our stay. We will make sure to let our friends and family know to never stay here. We have family who live there and we had a family member go check out the room with the dog hair and she also said the hair was not worth charging $450 or anymore than the service charge we had already paid prior our stay. We are very unhappy with how we are treated and how they are trying to get every penny out of us to redo their hotel. They need new management and friendly employees. DO NOT STAY HERE! FRAUD! FRAUD! FRAUD!

Rooms are okay. Can 100% hear the people in the next room, so that is annoying, esp when they are playing loud music and yelling. Staff is pretty much nonexistent outside of business hours. Great location downtown is the best part. Don't bother with their pool next to the river, overcrowded with drunks. Spa was nice, good massage.Rooms: rooms were cleanNearby activities: excellent hot pools at the top end of town, excellent food at the Royal PizzaWalkability: close to everything downtown that you need....hot pools and food

Trust that I will not send anyone there and will be letting everyone at the company know as well.Thank you for not taking me as a guest. Cindy is drama. I call and she answers,I am on the other line can I call you back?Does not tell me about the $150 hold. Had I known I would of started with a credit card not a debit card. Yeah, I am not rich and on a tight budget. So I get my husband's credit card. Book the room and she calls back...I called my manager you can't stay. NICE.My end..I do not handle it well when someone talks to where I can not get a word in and finally when I do I have done lost my cool. There was no reason to cancel.I was not violent,my voice was raised, but by no means screaming or yelling.I am appalled at people these days.I am sure this is a lovely placeAfter my experience it will be a hard pass and I will be sure to pass on my experience with the company I work with and my fellow travelers.

I wish The Lava would send out emails to their guests to get their feedback about their stay. We stayed in the family room, and there was only one hook and one tiny towel rack to hang our wet heavy items. It's a bath house! The walls should be equipped with towel racks and hooks everywhere! Because from what I could tell, guests were left to hang their stuff on door knobs and chairs, which is damaging the property. Feedback isn't an insult - It helps a company offer the best services and products possible.

Great place to stay in Lava Hot Springs. We have stayed a few times over the years and keep coming back. My favorite things about this place is the proximity to restaurants and the bar, plus the private hot springs in the back. I always say I'll walk down to the public hot springs but never make it because the private one is so nice.I gave the rooms 4/5 stars because the room we stayed in last night was really noisy. The metal stairs to the second floor are next to it/attached to the wall and it was incredibly loud each time someone went upstairs or walked on the elevated patio upstairs. Other than that, the room was really nice! Clean linens, comfy bed, warm and cozy.I'll definitely go back, even with the noisy stairs. No place is perfect, but some come close - like the Lava Hotel.

We rented a bungalow and it was expensive. Only problem is the back door doesn’t open! The owner didn’t say anything about it, there is no sign so we spend awhile trying our keys to open the back door! Finally we figured out it has no stairs back there! Unbelievable! I called the owner to complain and she said no one ever complained. Sure they didn’t! Unacceptable, what does a sign or stairs cost!Hot tub directly out back had bugs in it and looked bad. Scary, high looking men were in and outside the big pool and by the river in the evening with no one around from the property! There is no fencing, it’s in a big park with public access.Safety: I did not feel safe here. Men at the river and bigger pool were drunk and scary. No hotel personal over there.

I am going to start by saying we enjoyed our initial stay here. That being said, it turned into a complete nightmare that could have been EASILY avoided with additional investigation from staff.Other than the cigarette butts in the hot tub (when we checked in) and lying around the property, it was cute and quaint. We stayed in their small cottage in the meadows, steps away from their private hot pool. When we checked out, we were sad to leave but definitely planning to return soon. That said, three days later, multiple charges were on our account, almost to the amount of $500. We paid cash when we stayed there and gave them our card number for a deposit. We stayed for two nights and even cleaned the place up when we left! When I called to ask about the additional charges, the manager was completely rude, stating that we completely obliterated two of their chairs - which is 100% NOT TRUE. She sent a picture of ONE chair that was wobbly WHEN WE CHECKED IN, and in the image she sent (below), it had been turned upside down and taken apart. We did NOT do that! The owners called us and ended up taking the same stance, now saying that we also caused paint damage to the room. The only thing that my husband and I can think of that we did that would have upset housekeeping was that we moved the trundle bed into the main bedroom so that our toddler could sleep next to us. Maybe this upset housekeeping, and so they broke the chair? I am not sure what happened to the chair, but I do know that they treated us very poorly and unfairly over this and lost good customers in the process!!We would have happily paid well over the almost $500 they charged us to stay in the near future, but instead, I need everybody to think twice about staying here! Do NOT give them access to your debit card number!! My bank is putting a stop payment on this charge, but it would have been nice if the manager and owners had at least CONSIDERED that we are actually telling the truth. Very disappointing!!Pic attached is of the damage they said we did (which we did NOT do) - apparently, this is worth $500 AND losing good customers over???Nice hill to die on, folks, over a chair that you can pick for ten bucks at the thrift market!!!!bank gave us our money back because, of COURSE they did- but what a shame, really!

Stranded weird little motel/hotel.We were told the was a pool...well, it's up the street at another spot. I guess this would be somewhat ok if it was summer or at least not covered in snow. But there is no pool ON SITE. That is an important distinction as there is no handicap access to a pool. Rooms are small, clean and dated...most importantly, overpriced. Shower but no tub. This hotel feels more like a 1970s motel. The room was obviously two rooms before a remodel. Likely a front area and maybe a bedroom behind? The refrigerator and microwave area looks to be a window that was re-framed.The toilet area was... interesting...it's like a closet, with no door open to the backdoor entryway/sink and shower area. Now there is a door, but it opens into the cramped room. As well as being able to open the back door while seated...there is a place to rest your head like the doorway. I would imagine this is convenient if you would be inebriated. We will watch our bill very carefully, as another customer said they were overcharged after receiving their invoice. The traffic right outside the window and ill fitting door was an interesting thing. I'm fairly certain we are the only guests right now. Likely because this is not a popular location. The town itself is quite charming. We had a pizza from the Royal. There are nice little shops around as well.As far as the hotel, I would recommend finding a standard hotel in Pocatello and then drive to lava to visit. This was simply a waste of our vacation money to come here. The kids were disappointed and the pictures on Google were deceptive.Safety: Two doors, one out front to the street, the back to a weird yard. Standard locking knobs for a house. Low windows that would be easily accessible to crime. Lock your car...street parking or alley parking. Not exactly secure.Food & drinks: They provide and charge you for water and sodas in the room. No breakfast. No room service.

2022: We go here every year and love it! They are upgrading their old rooms and they were much nicer than pervious years but our air conditioner wasn't working right the first night in 2 of our rooms, so we tore it apart and cleaned it. It worked much better the rest of our stay. Love the fact that they have a private pool in the back and we can enjoy that when not at the hot tubs or pool. Very convienent to walk to the store, hot tubs, river and pool. Front deck does also always have a bug, bees and mosquitoes, issue so make sure to bring bug spray.Update 2023: another year in the bag however the private pool out back looked disgusting and no one ever emptied the trash on the deck until the day we left. The air condition did work this time!

We really enjoyed our stay! We were in a “Deck Room” which had a back door easily accessible to parking and the front door went out to a wooden deck looking over Main Street (nice place to enjoy your coffee). The room was older but very clean. The place has a private mineral pool and very close to the public Hot Pools. Check-in was easy and the front desk lady was very nice. We’ll definitely stay again!

So, while we had some check in challenges, I can’t say enough good about this staff. Cindy is literally one of my BFFs, she just doesn’t know it. I visited lava as a kid often..it equaled Disney for a your girls from Preston. As an adult, I love bringing my friends to this location and letting them act out the 20s they wished they had. Enjoy this hotel for everything that it is. Lean in to this location, and make new friends with everyone around.Walkability: It is perfect in its location for all the adult fun found in lava

We stayed in their cottage in 2021 and fell in love with the experience. As we planned our return this year, the cottage was unavailable- so we decided to reserve the courtyard room #9 because it had a private tub on the patio. However, there is no cool water hose to run into the private tub so our kids and I didn't get to enjoy it like we had planned. The private tub was the reason we we spent $100 more than other rooms- and we weren't able to soak in it because it was unbearably hot.The kitchen was nicely stocked- with available cookware. However there is no grill on or around the courtyard properties, so if you're hoping to grill forget it- - - we ended up buying a portable grill at the grocery store for $50 (ouch) and made do.There is no bath which could be a bummer if you have small kids...My favorite thing about this property were the two futons in the living room area (pictured on their site is an older set of couches).... So I was pleasantly surprised to see futons upon entering the room, and being able to fold them down at night as sleeping space for the kids was awesome. The guest pool is great too when it's not overcrowded. We visited in June and had a hard time accessing the guest pool because it was taken up by a large family reunion. Luckily we were able to spend a little time in it prior to checking out. That being said, there are a couple of safety concerns to be aware of. There is a loose piece of wood outside of the patio door that my daughter and son both tripped on. My son nearly busted his face open when he lost his footing on it while walking through the door, and my daughter tripped over it as it came loose - resulting in a nice scrape on her knee. From a safety standpoint I wouldn't reserve this room a second time. The patio door lock is also broken and presents a safety hazard if there was ever a fire because it's super tricky to lock and unlock. I made the hotel staff aware of these safety concerns upon check out but I'm not sure they cared. Their disinterest was a little surprising based off our experience and the interactions we had with the staff the previous year. Not sure if they're under new management or what but our experience this time around was a far cry from the amazing first time experience we'd had the year before. Unfortunately, for what they charge and the dwindling condition of the property and disengaged staff- I dunno that we'd stay again. . . Next year we will probably look to some of the other places in town and steer clear of the Lava Hotel, such a shame :(
