This should be a 2-star hotel at best.I've stayed here a handful of times because it's inexpensive but mostly because it's within walking distance of the hot springs. Our recent stay, the front desk asked more questions about our Service dog than a rental agency and even looked at our paperwork (which is prohibited) but my partner felt the need to prove it just to move along in the check-in process. Even said we would need to leave our dog in the car if we left since we didn't bring a kennel, yet we stayed in a pet-friendly room.Very old & worn out place. We usually notice a few maintenance issues.

DO NOT STAY HERE! DO NOT STAY HERE! This room was $150. a night during off season. You can see pictures on others posts. Curtains will not close all of the way so there is no privacy!!!! Advertised as two queen beds. It's one queen and a full in a random alcove. The paint is peeling, the towel bar in the bathroom is broken, rotted door trim, exposed tack strip at the front door, the room smells, and the remote won't work the tv. All of this is known by the office, they could not offer a discount or a refund. We were told the owners would have to contact us but we would probably not receive any discount. There were no other rooms available there. It was uninhabitable so we didn't even stay. Apparently this room has had a number of complaints and they are not doing anything to fix it -just taking advantage of people that don't have another choice. We drove 70 miles to stay at a different hotel.

The people were very nice. The room was gross. We only stayed 1 night & that was enuf. This place needs a major overhaul. Broken outlets, breezy door, needs a new vacuum. The ice machine šŸ˜†? You have to ask them to unlock a big ice chest & you get it out of ice bags (those poor people) there was hair, not ours, everywhere. Really the only thing I can praise was the heater, that looked new & worked well.Walkability: It's a 1/2 block from the state pools

Read the one star reviews as they are mostly fair and legitimate. All the 3 and 4 star reviews are a bit of a head scratcher, but friendly management alone can’t make a one star hotel a four.Upside:- no bugs- clean roomDownside:- no lamps- no hooks or hangers ( including bathroom - towels atop toilet)- TV not working- paint peeling- drapes don’t fully close

Nothing to say good about this place except how close it is to the hot pools. No telephone to call front desk. Tv doesn’t work, carpet pulled up, missing paint all over the room, horrible parking, ice everywhere, bed is horrible. Seriously only good thing is how close it is and why this place is probably still opened just purely the distance to the hot pools and no other reason.

The google photos and 5 star reviews do not reflect…-queen bed and a full bed (room was advertised as two queens)-one light switch that controlled the two overhead lights and no lamps-broken window drapes that don’t fully close-$150/night ahead of the stay, but the price dropped throughout the day, landing at $80/night by the evening (I suggest waiting and booking your room as late as possible, as the room might have been worth $80, as the beds were clean and comfortable enough)Walkability: Short walk to the hot springs.

This motel is great. Clean rooms, close to everything, friendly and prompt service. Plenty of parking spaces. Being pet friendly is a huge bonus! If you are looking for an easy, central, and reasonably priced hub for your Lava stay, this is the place. I would definitely stay here again.Walkability: Across the street from the hot springs and the river point of entry for tubing.

How this place has 3 stars is beyond me.... This place is mismanaged and ran down. It's sad that I pay over $240 for a weekend and all I get is a bed. The shower didn't work. I could have had a sponge bath better than a shower. Talked to the front desk & manager. Nothing but excuse to why they couldn't do anything about shower. So sadly I was forced to take showers across street after soaking in mineral pools. Oh ya and one more thing you want ice for the in room bucket. Well you get 1 then must pay for any additional buckets.Best to just avoid this place....

We came in our RV and were right on the river! Quiet and right at the pools! There are unimproved springs right there in the river that the locals have surrounded with rocks to keep the hot water in! So nice! For one and all! This is a small 2 star hotel with a small campground behind it. Has everything we need! Plus it's 1 minute walk to the pools at Lava. My review is NOT about the rooms. We only stayed outside behind the hotel and were very happy. Staying again this week. For our needs it’s a 5. Very inexpensive and private.

We love Lava, quaint and quiet and walkable; even exhausted, the people there are friendly. People saying that the motels are "dated" um, of course they are! 20 miles up the road is the overpriced, characterless monstrosity you crave. This motel is peaceful, very clean and quiet. Like the others in town; it is convenient to the healing waters, it's beds are comfortable, the people are nice and friendly. Actually, the rooms here are less claustrophobic than others in town, lots of room for even a table and chairs! The parking is lousy - again, that's the same for most places in town. The Lava Spa Motel is better than others in town, just for the beds and location alone. But the low prices don't hurt. Where else can you stay at a resort for a week for less than $500? Thanks, Aubrey, for making my rez over the phone while I was driving in the pouring rain 5 hours away, and for the great room! We even love the trains on the hill...

We stayed one night in room 103. It is a quiet town, so no rowdiness or loud noises to report. Air conditioner worked well especially in July, which was a huge plus. Nice bed, we were able to sleep comfortably. Clean room and bathroom. TV was large and worked very well with good cable channels to choose from. Extra points for this because most places have very small TV's or something is wrong with the cable, or simply lacks channels beyond just local ones. Shower worked very well, hot water did not run out. It was a pleasant experience. We would like to thank Effie, the housekeeper. Excellent job keeping the rooms so clean, tidy, and well stocked. Thank you for making our visit so relaxing. We will definitely stay here again should we be passing thru in the future. Another big plus, it is conveniently located across the street from the town hot pools.

The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The room was a little dated but still cozy. The bed was the best. The next morning, I woke without any back pain in months. The only real issue I had was that the jacuzzi tub did not work properly. We were able to fill it with hot water and still soak in the tub.Nearby activities: Across the street are the Lava Hot pools. That was the main reason for my wife and I to go and celebrate our 44th anniversary. Plus, the town was all within walking distance of shops and restaurants.Walkability: Everything we wanted to do and see was within a few blocks of where we stayed and parked our car from check-in until we left.

The condition of this hotel is highly disappointing, as we encountered numerous issues during our stay that made it challenging to enjoy. To begin, we had reserved a double queen room and requested a rollaway bed, which was advertised. However, the staff on duty, who was new, was unaware of its location, and as a result, we had to book another room without receiving any discount. Moreover, the room designated for our kids was extremely small, and the door was not sealed correctly, resulting in cold air leaking in. Although the hotel provides a small TV for every room, we were unable to change the channel on our set as the TV didn't have a remote and the buttons on it were not functional. The heating system in the room was either on full blast or off, and it produced an obnoxiously loud noise. The bathroom light was so dim that it was nearly impossible to shower without the aid of additional lighting. Furthermore, the complimentary soaps provided by the hotel were of inferior quality, causing a severe itching sensation on the skin. The pillows provided were quite small, and we only received two of them, while the blankets appeared to have been from the 80s.Although the bed itself was reasonably comfortable, we would not consider returning to this hotel in the future. The ambiance of the hotel felt tacky and cheap, indicating that basic maintenance and renovations are desperately needed.WiFi is a joke.

Old and run down. Small cramped rooms and tiny bathrooms. Needs some major remodeling. You only get one bucket of ice per entire stay per room.Next time I’m going to convince my group to stay at a nicer motel/hotel such as The Cobblestone Inn in Soda Springs which is very clean with larger, newer rooms and bathrooms. Worth the extra price and distance.

This place ain’t what it used to be. Last time we stayed here, it wasn’t that bad but now with the new owner, it’s a complete train wreck! We stayed here for Veterans Day and the only reason we booked this place was because no where else was available and we paid $133 for one night. When we walked into the office, the smell of cigarettes hit us in the face and the owner was very rude! I think he wasn’t happy that we came early because he told us our room wouldn’t be ready until 3 pm. So he decided to give us the worst room in the motel. The room had cracks and paint chips in the walls, the beds weren’t very comfortable, the pillows had no pillowcases and weren’t very comfy, no lamps or nightstands, no coffee machine, cold bathroom with no heat lamp, no hair dryer or curtain on the window, and the parking lot was very icy and slippery and icicles were hanging all around the building. We saw the owner constantly going outside to smoke like every 20 minutes or so. I think he’s a chain smoker and he doesn’t even bother spreading salt on the parking lot or sidewalks while he’s outside smoking. NEVER STAYING AT THIS PLACE AGAIN!

This motel is terrible!!! We stayed Monday March 20th and the room is so run down, my husband called it the Bates motel! Very outdated, no plugs in the bathroom anywhere, WHO runs a motel without plugs in the bathroom!! The floor was so cold, we didn’t even get into the tub it was so gross looking. $100 a night is absolutely ridiculous for what we got. The beds were somewhat comfy and that’s it. The lobby smelt like smoke so much! We will never stay here again and will tell everyone we know how terrible it was!!

This used to be a decent motel but it has changed ownership. The current owner has let the place get run down. There was a snow recently and it was not cleared (in spite of a snow plow sitting in the parking lot unused) so there was ice everywhere and icicles hanging dangerously from the roof. The strong smell of smoke in the office (with no smoking sign) should have given me a clue as to the condition of the rooms. The owner was rude to us when we asked if we could check in a little early. The carpet was dirty and threadbare. There was no closet or any rack to hang coats, no towel rack, no hair dryer, no coffee maker, no lamp, and two old chairs that were falling apart and an old worn table. The pillow I used had no pillowcase. No headboard nor side tables. The remote control didn't work for the heater nor the tv. There was no heater in the bathroom and the plaster on the walls was coming off. The towels were tiny. The one thing decent was one of the beds had a newer mattress. The other one was terrible. The parking lot didn't have enough space for all the cars. And to top it all off the lady that was staying in the room next door was vomiting in front of our door. This motel is directly across the street from the hot springs so that was the only good thing about it. Despite all this there was no vacancy because there are so few motels available in the small town. I doubt anyone will return to this one. I won't be.

Hole dug in floor at door, latch barely held door shut, no cover on bath fan, room stank from plug in air freshener, loud screeching banging noise 1:30 am, I think the heater compressor blew, yet he refused to refund anything when I said I would not stay a second booked night. Room was cleaned well by staff, but condition was deplorable, and still smelled bad. Parking lot was a mess of ice, apparently no effort to clear for patrons. Will never stay again!Man at desk was Not helpful in any way, will take money give keys and disappear. Would not answer or give any info on townšŸ˜µā€šŸ’«NOT RECOMMENDED.Rooms: Stinky and in very poor condition.

Over priced. Lots of mold. We were told the TV did not work while checking in and they would not do anything about it.

The location of this hotel is unbeatable! Across the street from the hot springs, right in the heart of town surrounded by everything you'd expect from a small tourist town. Walking distance to the springs, Olympic swimming park, a tourist shopping, tube rentals, and bars and restaurants. But that is where the charm of this hotel absolutely ends. šŸ˜‚ The beds look new, still have the plastic on them, but they are ungodly uncomfortable, noisy as all gets out, every move, every shift can be heard in the next room. The comforters are extremely out dated and worn, not to mention unbreathable, don't put your little ones in these beds! The beds actually had air trapped in them, so much so that it almost felt like sleeping on a hard waterbed mattress. And the pillows, oh the pillows. šŸ˜‚ They were no more than an inch high, barely there, and only two on the bed! My hubby used both and I "slept" on my jacket. And there was a strange odor in the room that I couldn't place. No amenities... at all. No coffee in the room, although there was coffee in the office, but it was only open 8am - 10pm. They did provide a VERY small bar of soap and a packet of conditioning shampoo. The parking situation was a joke, one spot per room and limited on street parking (we were there in the winter, in a snow storm, so street parking was sketchy. Although I do HIGHLY recommend visiting Lava during a mild winter storm! Prettiest thing I've ever seen! Peaceful, beautiful, and just awe inspiring!). They do have RV Parking in the back that we could use, but even our massive 4x4 Ram 2500 had a hell of a time getting in and back out. We decided it wasn't a good idea to park there while the snow was still coming down.Walkability: Close to everything

One of my best hotel/motel experiences! The staff is so friendly and the room was super nice. The cleaner, Nicole, did an excellent job and also popped her head out of the room she was cleaning to say goodbye. All our interactions at Lava Spa were fabulous. Our bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathtub was also great for relaxing and cleaning up after a day out. The heater worked beautifully and it is, no lie, the first time I haven't been freezing my entire stay at a place. We will 100% be staying here every time we come to the hot springs!

This hotel, if you can call it that, is visited by the police and is well known by the police. I would rate it however, there are no negative stars. the owners allow their children to run free in the parking lot. A lot of people actually live there. When we arrived there were only two spots to park, not even close to our room. The smell was unbelievable. I stayed there last January, it was an appropriate price for the room. The housekeeper that made these rooms look like the picture is no longer there. So you don't get what you see. We know this because we walked around town to find a room that was like the Hilton! From what the townfolks say, the original owners are no longer there and it has had a few other owners. The current owners have no hotel experience. When we left they said they would refund our extra night, if they rented the room. We turned in our key, did not get a closed bill, and they raised the price of the room from 70$ to 150$. A ploy to collect all our funds! I have a word of advice" DON'T STAY HERE- EVEN IF IT THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH".

Really to advertise an rv park and to have no restroom is a total scam the place seems really run down now that I’m here and 75 bucks for a site( granted we have electricity) it just seems strange, and we are off season! The hot springs across the road landed us here ! We will come again to this lovely community but we will not stay here. Sorry for the bad review but not all of us have a toilet in our rig and you could have mentioned… at least have a flyer or something? Or maybe a website that works ?

Great value! I brought my two boys up here for two nights and felt completely safe and comfortable here! The mattresses were brand new and super comfortable. Everything felt clean and maintained and we had a wonderful, inexpensive time here! I can't wait to come back next year. The front office staff was AMAZING and she helped us unlock our door for the dozen times my boys locked us out!
