I had a great experience adopting my cat from them. Thank you Idaho Falls Animal Services for taking good care of the animals of our community. We will definitely be back to adopt in the future.

Oh, my! What a wonderful group there taking care of the pups. Spotless, odorless, friendly, loving and compassionate.

My bunny went to bunny jail here. Thanks to the shelter for keeping the lil escape artist safe. He now has a chip, a collar and a haircut.

I adopted a husky from this shelter in May. After 2 months, this has been a phenomenal decision. My husky is overjoyed to have an owner. I went to the shelter about 10-20 times before picking her. The staff and volunteers were so accommodating and they care about the animals’ wellbeing. They were very helpful in finding the very best fit for my lifestyle and preferences. It can be painful to walk in and feel the stress of so many caged animals, which is why I advocate for rescue. In many situations, the animals here are better off than in the many abusive homes where they find themselves. With my husky, there has been a learning curve for potty training and obedience, but it has been a fun journey. There is obvious evidence of past abuse in her scars and jumpy behavior. Sometimes we find inexplicable behavior such as strong aversion to the basement or to particular animals. But we love her and are grateful the IF shelter is doing everything they can to rehome the unfortunate animals of the city.

0 stars!! Tried rehomeing my dog for 6+ months with no luck contacted every animal shelter even this one and they told they won’t take surrenders because they were full I was completely out of options to the point it was either homelessness with a dog or a home for my kids and I had to turn her in as a stray because they wouldn’t take her as a surrender they treated me as if I was a criminal and charged me with a misdemeanor they would rather you dump your dogs on the side of the road instead of turning them in knowing they will be safe ! The staff are also rude and unprofessional

Not sure if we just got an awful worker or what. Me and my husband had been trying for over a month to sell our dog and had no luck. We decided to take him to the shelter. It was our last resort. Cried the whole way there. Walked in and asked if we could drop off our dog, the worker started getting things together. My husband asked again just to Clarify if their shelter allowed dog drop offs and she suddenly stopped and her whole attitude changed. She said”not really” and then started treating us like CRAP. Was trying to guilt trip us, and even went as far as to accuse us about lying about trying to sell our dog because,” she never saw our dog on Facebook.” Okayy? We left after she just went on and on. We would’ve told her off but me and my husband were so thrown off after we cried the whole way there and then walked into that. I get people dump their dogs, but sometimes people also don’t have the option of keeping their pet that they love.

We were able to adopt a lovely dog from the shelter, and for the most part they a lovely dog from the shelter, but they neglected to inform us of his medical conditions so now it's part of our daily life

I've been to this facility several times over the years. Mostly to have cremations done.( We did rescue a cat and a dog years ago from them) Place was OK for what it was back then but had some cleanliness and heath issues with animals when we went and looked at the animals they had, and staff always seemed depressed to me.However I went in a little over a month ago looking for a new dog. Found they were now a no kill facility place was clean, animals were well cared for, and staff was super helpful and up beat. I even found my new dog. I highly recommend if you're looking for a cat or a dog to give them a try I don't think you will regret it 😉

Going to the shelter I learned that to get a dog you have to be on a two-week waiting list still even then you might not be able to get the dog you wanted because you could be number seven in line. I learned the reason why is so many of the pets get sick in the shelter or get worms so you have to wait at least 2 weeks for them to either get better or for the worms to be gone. It was a very big shelter had lots of kennels for the dogs plenty of space for them as well for the cats. It has a little dog park in the back so you can play and meet the dogs. We did not get our dog from here but found a breeder in the area to get our dog from.

They are very friendly. They keep the store clean 24/7 and all the employees are nice and friendly. They all say Thank you and Welcome to Maverick when you walk in. And when you are ready to check out they always ask if there is anything els they can help you with. And if you don't know how to put the code in it get gas they will come out and help you.

Went to donate some large and extra large dog crates. Dog walkers out early with those fur babies! Clean and very good staff! I donate most months to the shelter we get our rescue from...but I've been known to donate here as well. All shelters need help. Idaho is a huge"dog" owner state but these guys take dogs, cats, I've seen rabbits and a few chickens!

I adopted my pup here a year ago. The staff was very communicative and helpful when I was going through the process. They have also been working to become a no kill shelter which is incredibly admirable. This shelter tries to be a part of the community and give back whenever possible.

My dog died today. She was 15 and struggling to walk so we made the decision to let her go. She was the sweetest thing, very gentle, I had her since she was a pup.The staff here who helped us were so kind, so understanding, and so empathetic when my 7 year old could barely talk from being so sad.We will always remember Cari, and we’ll always be grateful for staff who made a difficult experience a little sweeter for us.

I read the reviews before going in, and the reviews do this place too good. There's a very short hair cut female with glasses who legit wanted to start an argument with me. The cats all looked sick.. kept in for kennel cough and smelled like urine. It was filthy and uncredited for. I will never be back to this place unless I absolute had to. Why start problems? Real moody and just down right disrespectful. I would have loved to take the argument outside. Learn how to talk to people. Atleast run the shelter and take care of those animals!!!

We found 2 small kittens in our window-well on Saturday morning. One kitty was very lethargic and we were able to bring her into the house to warm her up and give her water with a medicine dropper. We knew she needed more help and took her to the IF Animal Shelter where they responded immediately to her needs. Staff was caring, professional and truly concerned. The second kitty was frightened and hissed / clawed at us so we left her with some water in the window-well while we cared for the sicker one. We checked on her several times and the 3rd check she was gone. We wish we knew how she got out of the window-well!We explained what happened to the staff at the shelter and they told us if we found the second kitty to bring her in to the shelter. We aren’t sure if the kittens were feral or how they ended up in our window- well.Kudos to the IF Animal Shelter and staff. We appreciate you.

I had come in with my family to adopt a kitten. The woman working there did not let us adopt one, as there was a quiet time? I don't understand why that is a rule, but I won't mark it as 1 star as the place is clean and it seems the animals are well taken care of.

Traveling through town and saved a Pug from the middle of an intersection. Not being from Idaho Falls, we looked them up and took the little guy there. The two gentleman there were very helpful and despite the pug not having a collar and tag he was chipped. Great to know the little guy will make it back to his family.

Went in to volunteer with 2 - 10 year olds and my 4 year old. The front desk was super kind and allowed them to create some fun treats for the cats & dogs! Afterwards we got to take a few on walks and it was a great experience for the little ones. Everything was clean and each of the workers and other volunteers were super friendly!

Have had a bad experience with this place, they are nice and friendly to anyone who wants to purchase a dog but they bad mouth owners when they need help surrendering a dog and write a long paragraph on their posts saying how bad the owner treated the dog to make them look better when all of it isn’t true! Theres a lot of people that need help and instead of criticizing them maybe see their situation and offer to help them. When all the shelters are full it’s super hard to get anywhere, I know when cats got out of a hand they did a free spay and neutering so I am hoping this will be a thing here soon to help those who can’t afford it. A lot of us are struggling in these times so please remember everyone has their own situations they are going through right now. Thanks for all you do for the community.

They helped me put my Mom's little Dog down that I had inherited after she died on the 22nd of February this year. It was so painful. He got so sick and he was suffering incredibly. It was the most humane thing I could do as it would have been too expensive for me to TRY to save him. They were so understanding and helpful. He went peacefully and they even cremated him for me and he will be buried with my Mom and Dad in June. Rest in peace little Harly. I am so grateful for the Shelter and their understanding and help. I would recommend adopting any time from them! I can't get another dog yet but someday I will and I will definitely be going here to see about adopting.

This is an amazing animal shelter and service. They've been very helpful to me and I've adopted multiple pets from this location. When one of my pets was run over and killed they reached out to me because I had messaged them about them being lost. They have been very kind. The only drawback is the prices can be a bit steep, but I know they put a lot into the animals as well

If I could give zero stars, I would. This shelter has a program to help spay/neuter ferrel cats. I have family members with ferrel cats that have used the program successfully to help control the ferrel cat population with every intent of returning the cat back to its dwelling. Unfortunately, the most recent visit was a different experience. While I recognize the office staff says most people could care less about a ferrel cat (they wanted to know why we are so upset they were keeping the ferrel cats brought in), some of us do. Per this shelter, people do not own the ferrel cats and while they said we are not "surrendering" cats when we bring them in (because we don't own it), they can choose not to return a ferrel cat. Yes, they said this. They can choose to re-home it to a barn house (I doubt every vet tech who falls in love with a ferrel cat also happens to have a barn house). We were told if we wanted to get the ferrel cats back, we now have to pay an adoption fee. What? They are ferrel and will stay ferrel. Now, to rewind to the very first part of my phone conversation with the front desk at this shelter. I was told ferrel cats HAVE to go back to their found location. This makes perfect sense and is the intent. From there, the conversation went down a rabbit hole in which I was informed they put a medical hold on ferrel cats AND they can re-home them to a barn house. I was told people have to state they want ferrel cats back if they want them back. This is regardless of the fact we don't own them AND are not surrendering them. All of this is according to the front desk woman with many years of employment (I failed communications 101 to take her name). At the end of the day, I called to A) Find out the policy about returning ferrel cats and B) Ask for them to be transparent about the fact that they can keep ferrel cats or charge you for their return. I accomplished A by learning they don't view a ferrel cat as your property and may choose to take it away from you. But the harder topic was B. The woman said they would absolutely NOT post any type of notice about possibly keeping the ferrel cat anywhere on the office wall. She also said they don't have time to share this with patrons because they see hundreds of cats every day. As someone who majored in communications, I am extremely disappointed. This whole situation could have been avoided. We would have taken our ferrel cats to one of the other local clinics to get them fixed for a nominal fee ($30) in order to guarantee we could return them to their place of dwelling. We are still hopeful for the return of these ferrel cats with an unexpected cost of around $70+ each. We enjoy supplement feeding and having these cats mouse to help keep our mouse population down. And they are cute cats (we know this is why someone is trying to take them from us!). After this, I don't think we will bother to bring in any of the other dozen ferrel cats. We need mousers around us.Shame on Idaho Falls Animal Shelter for not being more transparent. And shame on the front desk woman who seems senseless and cannot comprehend why someone would care about returning a ferrel cat to its place. If you like seeing a ferrel cat around, take it somewhere else to be spayed/neutered. Otherwise, you may be taking it in to never see it again. (something tells me this would not upset the front desk woman who has been there for years and is apparently too overwhelmed by cats to care that someone else might care)
