People here are absolute trash. From Fb messaging to in person. The place looks like a maximum security prison for animals ! I’d never do any business here . Honestly I don’t even think they care for the animals appropriately here. This place needs to be evaluated and looked into.

We were looking at Cecil the husky, we were well informed on his background upon our initial meeting, we were treated courteously and professionally by the staff. The husky met my current pets and the meeting was good and went smoothly. We adopted him today with the adoption process going smoothly. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to give Cecil a good home.

I adopted Osiris (he was called captain) about a week and a half ago, the fees for adoption included getting him fixed, parvo vaccine and another vaccine! He did devolp a respiratory infection while in the shelter but nothing my vet couldn't help with.He turned out to be 10 years old instead of 3 but either way he is getting a whole bunch of love from me.

In my experience, this shelter goes above and beyond for dogs. Their Facebook page is updated very regularly for the dogs. For the cats, not so much. They hardly ever update the cat album and they euthanize so many cats. I understand that there are a lot of factors that are out of their control, but I wish they made a bit more effort on the cats' behalf. The biggest issue I have with this shelter is that the adoption contract requires you to return an animal to this shelter if you can no longer care for it. This shelter is almost always over capacity on animals, so in spite of the contract stating that animals must be returned to the shelter and cannot be rehomed by the adopter, good luck ever returning an animal to this crowded shelter if an adoption doesn't work out or if your housing situation changes. They leave you with no other options and won't have space to take an animal back.

I adopted a little dog here about 2 years ago. She has turned out to be such a wonderful and beautiful dog, real Mama's girl, she's truly a mutt having four different breeds of dog in her, yet she shows each of the breeds from time to time in her interactions. I just love this little girl to death she's so good. This shelter does a great job of picking animals that they know will be good and adoptable. If a person does not succeed at being an owner, it is not the dogs fault...

Had a great experience at the shelter! The guy there was friendly and explained all he could about the dog we wanted. Let us have as much time as we wanted to play with him and get to know him. We didn't feel pressured to make a decision at all. Prices are more than reasonable considering they get the animals vet checked and fixed. We'd definitely go there again!

The staff here know each dog personally and you can tell they love them and want them to succeed when they are placed in their new homes. It’s clear they don’t get as much funding as say the Snake River shelter, but the dogs and cats are just as sweet and deserve homes even more because they might get overlooked

We went to adopt a dog and they told us she was at the vet getting spayed, so she wouldn't be back until late in the day or early the next morning. So, we decided to get her the next day. But when I checked their website later, after their closing time, it said that dog was just adopted. Who adopts out a dog still drugged up, after hours? People who don't have good work ethics and don't really care about their animals. Not going to even try adopting from them again. And no, we didn't ask for the dog to be held, but obviously it depends on whom asks if that guy knew exactly when to come get her, visiting before and after hours since we got there at opening time.

First I want to say, I love the dog we adopted here. He is happy, healthy, and a great addition to our family. That being said, Blackfoot Animal Shelter did not set us up for success. Upon meeting the pup, I was told that he was a happy, 4-6 year old healthy dog. I asked if there was anything in his background that I needed to know about. They told me no. I explained that my wife and I love on the second floor of an apartment complex and they told us that would be fine. Then, after signing paperwork and providing payment, I was told that he has a very minor hip issue, but if we had any issues to take him to the same vet that they took him to.After having him for a few days, we quickly realized that his hips were hurting him. We took him to a different doctor (we felt strange about the information we were given at the shelter and wanted a second opinion), and waited for results. The doctor told us that he is likely between 8-10, that his hips required immediate attention, and that he had a few teeth that would need to be extracted. To make matters worse, after digging through the paperwork provided, he was already prescribed pain medicine, but the shelter was not giving it to him, nor did they tell us he needed anything. The shelter suggested a vitamin, but he actually needs 2-3 medications to function happily.I am not impressed with how this shelter runs. We were lied to in order to get a dog out the door. They didn’t have the dogs best interest in mind. Given that we live on the second floor, we have to put his hips in a sling to help him up the stairs. We had to spend a lot of money on vet bills and medicine to help him be happy. Had he gone to a home that didn’t have the money, or to a home that trusted the shelter’s “he is fine” rhetoric, or to a home that wanted a young, active dog, our poor dog would not have been happy. They were very fortunate that we are in a situation to help and are willing to do anything to keep him with us.Long story short, we love our dog. However, we were not impressed with the shelter. Shame on them for covering bits of the history and not providing us the information we needed to make him happy and healthy. Unfortunately, after speaking with a few friends at our current complex, this has happened with multiple adoptions from the Blackfoot Animal Shelter. These animals deserve better treatment, and the owners deserve all the tools available to help their pets. We’d like to think that it was an honest mistake, or perhaps a lack of funding to properly take care of the animals, but something certainly needs to change because it appears to be a pattern.

Unsure of her name, but whoever gave my boyfriend and I a tour of the dogs was very knowledgeable about each one (history, temper meant, personality, etc.). This helped us out a lot being able to choose and find the best fit for us! The adoption fee also covered a leash, treats, harness, cute jacket/parka, shots, etc. Very reasonable! Would go adopt another animal again!

Love, love, love this place! I've adopted several pets from here! They go above and beyond to make sure the animals are healthy before they put them up for adoption, and that they are placed in the right home, and they'll take them back if it's not a good fit. The ladies there have been wonderful to us on every occasion!

Animal control officer from the shelter was very unprofessional. Yelling at two disabled individuals who looked up website, stating that it was closed Sunday, so they took five puppies that've been abandoned to their own home until Monday morning. Being one night, so they wouldn't freeze to death. Hope officer is proud of herself with those tax dollars. We mentioned this to the sheriff for review, please contact the sheriff if you are having similar issues

Very Unprofessional, Rude and Deceiving. The people that work there make the dogs look like their Terrific, Sweet and Non-aggression to other pets , but they lie about their pets Cons. I would 100% recommend taking your business elsewhere.

Very dishonest people! We were very interested in a dog there and told them we’d let them know within an hour if we could get it and they said ok. Then when we showed up they said she has been adopted after agreeing to hold the dog for an hour

We adopted some very cute kittens there! When we went, the cages we're very clean and the animals looked well taken care of. They took care of us very quickly even though it was very busy. Thank you for the opportunity to adopt!

If I could have rated this place a zero I would have but there was not an option. The ladies running the shelter were extremely rude and unprofessional, especially the one lady who was to busy eating her salad at the front desk. The front office was filthy and filled with clutter, There was a fish tank in the office that was disgustingly dirty, it looked like the water hadn’t been changed in months, the dog kennels had dog poop in them and the worst part was that this is a very old shelter and these dog kennel floors are nothing but cement, it was very cold on the day I went to shelter, these dogs had no blankets or beds to lay on away from the cold cement, I noticed 3 small puppies they couldn’t have been more than 8 weeks old laying on the cold cement floor, they didn’t even have a blanket to lay on.

I’ve tried calling them to get information on a dog I was interested in, and I even went to the shelter in person. Both times, the ladies there were very rude and unprofessional. Asking them questions seemed like a huge inconvenience to them, even though it’s their job to know about their dogs. It’s all just rubbed me the wrong way, so I searched somewhere else. Would not recommend.

Great shelter with thoughtful staff and loving foster homes. We love our adopted dog. Support your local shelter, they are doing the best they can with the resources that the community provides.

Rude as hell, my girlfriend had pictures and was indentifieing her cat she lost. And an officer there accused her multiple times for lieing. They showed no compassion for the animals. They're a disgrace.Luckily one kind hearted blonde gal stepped in and confirmed it was my girlfriends.

I had to take in a lil kitty that was hurt pretty badly. They had an officer meet me there. As they couldn't. Unfortunately she was hurt to badly and had to be put to sleep. They couldn't and wouldn't let her suffer anymore. I very much appreciated that.

Rude, rude, rude. Very unprofessional people. Take your hard earned money to Idaho falls. They hold animals for ransom. Think about it; if they treat people like that think how they treat animals. Seriously, adopt your pet elsewhere.

Drove from all the way out of town to adopt, and we showed up 40 min before close time and no one answered the phone and door was locked. I’m extremely disappointed.
