I would go 5 stars but ... 1) cash only (!) and 2) $8 for a single scoop is steep even for Big Island. Other than that, love their Mac nut ice cream and shave ice is one of the best around. Order at the window and don't expect to have anywhere to sit so you may want to walk down the hill to meander around or eat in the car, but it's worth it.

I never review anything online, but our family's experience here was special and renewed my faith in humanity. When we got there, the man behind the window asked what both my boys wanted, but I told him that I only had enough for one shave ice (it's cash only). He then said that he would give us 2 anyways! It was such a sweet gesture. A lesson to us all, and my kids especially, that kindness is something we should practice more often. Oh, and the shave ice was great and he gave me a spoonful of coconut ice cream too which was wonderfully sweet and creamy. Please support this place.

Fantastic little ice cream spot to help you cool down and enjoy some local flavors. Shave ice, ice cream, shakes, and so much more! Call ahead and you can get pints or half gallons to go but bring dollars because this place is cash only and theres no seating outside the service window.

Thirteen of us arrived at 5:00pm and ordered ice cream and shave ice. The ice cream is home made and tastes great! Since the place closes at 6pm we had to make sure we had plenty of time to order and eat!

Great place to end the day for a small (or not!) snack if you are venturing along the Kohala coast. I've always gotten ice cream here, but reactions from other customers around me suggest the shave ice is just as good! After you've gotten your ice cream or other treat, go downstairs to explore the galleries down below. This place is very crowded (justifiably) during lunch, beware! Come just after they open or in the evening about an hour before closing to have a leisurely experience sampling your favorite cone or cup. Cash only! An ATM is nearby for convenience.

Make sure to get the ice cream inside the shave ice! I got the ube (purple sweet potato) ice cream in shave ice with lilikoi (passion fruit) and li hung mui (fermented plum) flavorings. All delicious! Plus, the owner is extremely kind.

This place was great. Saw a line forming to try this place so we jumped in. Wait was not bad, the gentleman working was pretty quick. There were a few different flavors I saw but didn't know what they tasted like, such as LiHing Mui (fermented plum) was actually really good and Ube flavored Ice Cream (Sweet potato) also yummy. He gave us a sample of both. The portion is good and the price was reasonable. He definitely was not frugal with the syrup. He also was very friendly. Amazing! Best ice ever for the Hawaiian ice! The lillikoi cheesecake is soooooo good and the toasted coconut and haupia are perfect! Easy parking and if you call they might be open later than posted hours. Exactly what I was looking for 😁

Such amazing flavors, amazing customer service, and wonderful options! Coming back next time I’m on the big island, it was well worth every cent, and then some! Such a great shop. You have to visit, I promise you’ll like it!

The ice cream and shave ice have that artificial taste to them. The quality is not good and the service was super slow. Their sizes are also too big (2 scoops for a small) which some people may like but it’s not great for kids who have to eat it standing in the parking lot or in the car (no seating).

Delicious!! Well worth a stop. We were driving by and stopped because I had never had shaved ice before. It was amazing!! They had at least 20 flavors and for $4 (small size) you get this huge shaved ice. I’ll have to make a stop again before I leave!

Delicious! I had dragon fruit, blue raspberry and strawberry….and of course there’s a scoop of vanilla ice inside!! Finding it was not hard using maps service BUT they shop is not clearly marked SO look for the crowds.

Small hole in the wall shave ice and ocean location. Larab1out 10 kinds of ice cream. During peak times service can be slow. Ice cream is good - decadent chocolate and strawberry. 4 soda choice for floats. Was a little disappointed in shave ice syrup. Flavor was there but it lacked sweetness and there seemed to be a shallow pour making parts of it very white and without syrup. Conveniently located next to Kohala burger so you can grab a bite after.

Ice cream is the thing to get here. The man that works here is also very nice. The women was also helpful giving us other island eats tips.Yes snow cone is good and some different flavors like sour plum but the ICE CREAM is where it's at. For $6 this is in a location where not a lot of options so price is reasonable. It's not the fluffy shave ice but still good. Focus on the ice cream! You will not be disappointed

Do not let the place deceive you. It is a tiny whole in the wall but it is just amazing and staff was so friendly and patient with our 3 kidos who of course could not make up their minds. Lots of options all delicious

Wonderful shave ice and ice cream! The owner was just the sweetest. It's worth the drive to get! We will be backWe got Kona coffee ice cream; a shave ice with volcano ice cream, blue raspberry, ginger lemonade and tiger blood; a toasted coconut ice cream and shave ice flavors of fruit punch, pink lemonade and dreamsicle. All of us were very happy with our choices!!
