Lovely little shop featuring items from local artists, plus a short, fascinating walk outside through native fauna. Helpful and friendly staff. The items for sale run the gamut in price from completely affordable to oh, dear lord, please let me win the lottery. Absolutely gorgeous and creative works. Definitely worth a visit.

Gorgeous! The employees are well informed and extremely kind. The art is beautiful, inside and out. The nature hike is also wonderful, informative, and short enough for all ages to enjoy.

A beautiful Art center that encourages cultural education and environmental awareness through art. We loved taking part in the community art project and were honored to have our watercolor tiles added to the project.

Very good works by local artists. In the back of the building there is a rare tract of original old growth forest. It is tranquil and very rich in diversity. Lots of native birds singing above the canopy of the forest. You can visit both for free. It is a great combination of art and nature, a rare gem

Visited when volcano national park closure, the ranger here is very helpful on helping us on where else to visit. It has a little nature's trail at the back of the center with a little yellow cat follow you around.

Beautiful locally made art pieces, and the staff working there are super friendly. I was especially happy bc I lost my watch in the parking lot there & they found it & returned it to me the next day. When we went back to get my watch we took a little stroll down their nature walk in the back, that was really cool. It’s apparently home to some of the oldest native trees on the island (over 200yrs old). Highly recommend!

Great information and welcoming atmosphere with a creative art twist on environment and retail sales of unique products. Park service representative on site to give detailed information on past and present volcano activity. Definitely a must see service.

Beautiful art in both this and the main location near the visitor center. The nature walk in the back is well worth it - amazing trees and plants in there.

Actually went here as a part of a documentary crew that was filming the residents of volcano, and he arts center reached out and offered their board of members to be interviewed. They all have wonderful personalities and amazing stories to share, and the complex is full of beautiful local artwork that reflects the spirit of aloha and the culture of the volcanoes. They also have a cat called orange who is very friendly and you can pet her. Definitely worth a visit if you are passing through the area which is beautiful.

So beautiful here! We went to a great quilt show! And they had free hamburgers and hotdogs! Plus a BBQ dinner plate you could buy! Get on their mailing list for all their great events and classes!

*Beautiful local made pieces, tons of things to look for, we picked up a volcano xmas ornament which was super cool. They also have some really special Nihau shell jewelry, not cheap but the real thing! Kids books, koa wood boxes, killer art and all supporting the local art scene which is a great thing!

We saw an amazing exhibit of wood art pieces made by local artists. Be sure to check out the old growth forest behind the art center to see some truly remarkable trees and ferns.

The site consists of two buildings, one with a few very small displays of local art, most of which looks like chopped firewood that has been polished and hollowed out to make velvet lined boxes... Maybe for jewelry, it was a little unclear. There were a handful of exquisitely detailed pieces like turned wood bowls with very detailed etchings, but they were all priced in the 3-5 k range. The other building appears to function as a pottery or general art workshop, and had a couple of small rooms for showcasing event items. In this case they were showcasing woodwork that had been judged in some fashion... Again, it was unclear exactly what was happening, but I heard about it on the radio and decided to check it out. Many of these pieces were actual works of art, at least in the sense that they evoked an emotional response when you looked at them, but I'm not dropping 9k on a piece of finely polished koa suspended in resin forming a table that would only have function of I set it behind my couch...The one interesting feature at the site was a nature trail thru the jungle, but with the gate latched as it was, it didn't feel very inviting, so we just packed it in at about the 20 minute mark so that no more time was wasted. It was a wealthy feeling place considering it is literally just a couple of shacks in the middle of nowhere. But it has that artsy fartsy smarm to the atmosphere that makes us common, not excessively wealthy folk downright uncomfortable.I might go back to check out one of the festivals, maybe if it is crawling with people it will feel more welcoming. As one of about 5 people wandering about, it was a soulless and unfulfilling experience. I can't recommend it in good faith.

The offices are currently hosting the displaced artwork from the gallery that is impacted by the closing of the national park and they have it set up beautifully! It is as inviting as ever, with stunning artwork and even beautiful jewelry for sale. They have two unisex bathrooms, and the people are so kind!

The nature walk through the forest is amazing! I worked here over the summer 20 years ago clearing out the invasive ginger and tipuchina plants. It was hard work since we didn't use poison, all the ginger roots were dug out of the ground and carried out in 5 gallon buckets. I left Hawaii after high school and I was surprised at how nice the property looked during my recent visit.Honestly, this rivals most of the areas in the national park down the road. There are some nice old trees and hapu'u tree ferns and lots of native birds. If you walk the loop you will see the stark contrast at the border with the ranch land which shows the importance of conservation projects like this.
