We were happy to find the cafe for lunch on our way to the volcano forest. They weren’t busy but they only had one waitress so service was a bit slow. I had the mahi tacos which were dry. The fish was good but they needed something extra. My husband had the pulled pork and he didn’t like it. I put my coleslaw on it and that made it much better. I recommend a stop if you are looking for lunch before heading into the park.

Would rate 6/5 if we could! We ate here after a fun day of hiking at Volcano National Park. We started off with Guava BBQ wings and they were absolutely incredible. I had the Big O’ 1/2 Burger and loved it. My wife had the Grilled Mahi Mahi and said it was delicious. We finished with a homemade dessert of rich Chocolate Delish and it was amazing. 10/10 recommend!

Go look at the pictures. If they appeal, this is your place. For me? I used to live in US, and was in Hawaii for 2 weeks. I really wanted a burger at a down to earth place. This is, hands down, the worst value meal I can remember in my time in the USA, and the worst meal I've had in a diner or burger joint, ever.Service that swung between inattentive & slightly hostile, dry burger - overpriced, average drinks, in a dive restaurant that seems to exist solely to trap tourists who found everything else in Volcano was closed that night. (This is A Thing. Each restaurant in Volcano appears to close on different nights, with no real pattern). The fries are pretty good, though.

Wasabi tours took us here for dinner which is a great place to come after a long day of driving. It is an extremely popular restaurant that eventually got lined up out the door. We fortunately had reservations so no worries there. The washrooms are clean so no worries there either. The burgers are HUMONGOUS there! The meals that we had tasted good. The Mahimahi meal was very satisfying.ONE SUGGESTION to improve the service there is that when a tour orders ahead as we did off a limited menu that each menu selection be colour coded and then those colour coded tags be given to the patrons and placed on the tables for the servers to see. That way as the food comes out there is no walking around auctioning the food off. There would be less yelling and faster service which is crucial on a bus tour. We barely had enough time to eat so this would improve that dramatically. The atmosphere and decor is quite nice here. It almost reminded me of an Australian Outback drinking hole.Parking: Plenty of parking even for large vehicles like our tour bus.

Great little place to eat after a day of hiking at the national Park. Had the "Eruption" Burger which is basically a burger with a massive slice of cheese that overflows onto the plate. Ate the fries with all the extra cheese lol. Food isn't the best you'll ever have but for what it is, it's great. I would come here again after hiking around Volcano. Plus there's a gas station and small general store in the same parking lot in case you need anything for the drive home!

The Lava Rock Cafe’s a good place to stop when you’re at the national parks. The food does leave something to be desired, but it is truthfull decent food with a lovely staff. Not to mention, it’s also a convenience store, coming in handy after a long day of hiking.

Everything about this place exceeded my expectations! The food was outstanding, each person in my party commented on how much they enjoyed their meal. The service was efficient and all the great art on the walls made for a very pleasant meal-time! I would recommend this place for sure! Even the roaches in the bathroom were exceedingly the most friendly ones on the whole Island! I mean they're everywhere what-re-you-goin-ta-do?Kid-friendliness: My son loved his cheeseburger! No sides of any kind (ketchup, mayo, mustard), just the way he likes it!

We had a party of 10, I know this makes things more difficult for the restaurant but there was maybe one other table there. No one enjoyed their meal, including the two least picky of the bunch. The only thing I would recommend would be the sweet potato fries, but out of the two orders, one was mushy. The server was nice but it was difficult to get refills. Being close to the national park was about the only thing that it had going for it.

This place was amazing. The food was great, and it came extremely quickly, despite the fact that we had 6 people in our party. I got the paniolo burger (with bacon, BBQ, and onion rings) and it was very nice. Every part of it was cooked amazingly. Service was also very nice, and prompt. Prices were a bit high, but the food made it worth it!!! Good place to stop by on your way outside the park!

I got the Hawaiian burger and my wife got the fried shrimp. The food was definitely not fresh and was definitely reheated. The fried shrimp were eerily similar to what you can buy frozen at the grocery store and the burger left more to be desired. The fries were lukewarm at best. Expected a little more for $20-25 each.Service was adequate. From what we could tell there wasn't a dedicated bartender so if your waiter/waitress had a table with drinks they would have to pour your drink of choice themselves.

My wife and I were at a wonderful B&B to see Volcano National Park and needed to find a convenient place for dinner. We arrived at dinnertime on a Saturday night and were immediately seated by a pleasant hostess. What became apparent quickly was that they were understaffed. After sitting for 15 minutes our waitress came by on the run and took our order. As we watched all the tables that were seated after us get their food the hostess came by and asked if we were ready for our check and she was shocked to hear we were still waiting for our food. We both ordered the grilled mahi dinner and it was cold, not warm, when served so we sent it back. It came back hot and overall we were happy with the quality of the meal. Many others around us seemed pleased with their meals. To her credit our waitress gave us the employee 20% discount on the food as an apparent comp for the wait and having to send the meal back. Dinner choices in Volcano Village are limited so we'd likely go back to Lava Rock Cafe writing off this experience to a staffing shortage.

We had a great breakfast here - the Hawai'ian bread French toast sent my daughter into orbit. My pancake short stack was definitely filling, and my husband's Loco Moco breakfast was exactly what he wanted. Service was outstanding, friendly and attentive. Our server even went next door to get me a cappuccino. Nothing fancy here, just dependable and tasty food.

What a fantastic burger! The bacon 🥓 on the paniola burger was so perfectly cooked and massive amounts. The burger patty itself was so juicy and flavourful.Staff were so nice even though obviously busy and run off their feet. Pleasant and professional under is a sign of a great staff. KUDOS.Parking: Should have noticed more parking around the back.

The swiss cheese burger and the chili fries were delicious! Very calm atmosphere. Bathrooms are outside, parking is limited as it is shared with the store and gas station next door.Parking: Parking is limited as it is shared with the store and gas station next door.

Two chefs walk into a bar...The pastrami was really tough; cut against the grain and required entirely too much chewing & bread almost blackened on one side, but the VERY thin sandwich was FULL of flavor. Asked for crispy fries & got limp ones. I expect so much much better for a $20 sandwich. The $9 pint gave me sticker shock, but it was a good porter. Server was excellent! Left about $11 on $32+. We probably won't be back & that's a shame. There are only about 4 places that serve food in the area. They can do MUCH better.

The burger/fries and fish/chips are my fav. Food is soooo good!! I do take out most of the time because its always busy here, best to call and make sure they have space to dine in. The interior is pleasing, mostly clean minus a sticky floor spot here and there. Prices are high but worth it for food quality, its a tourist area for sure!! Friendly staff that keeps daily tasks organized. Additional parking behind the buildings. Go check it out!

Such a great find! Food was cooked really well! Wanna give a special shout-out to Lana. She was out hostess and waitress. She was busting her but getting everyone's orders while also seating all the guests. She was kind a courteous and definitely made our visit a memorable experience. Definitely give this place a visit of you're in the area.

We had dinner here while staying at the Volcano Village Estates on the 1st night. There are not a lot of food option near the area and many places closes early. Our lodge stuff recommended this place. The wait time was long since we didn’t have the reservation but the food was worth the wait time. We ordered fish and chips and burgers with drinks. Next day we went to the black sand beach and we came back for lunch. The server who served us the previous night remembered us ( Which was surprisingly sweet considering how busy they were) and since it wasn’t crowded during lunch time she seated us right away. I ordered Loco Moco for lunch and it was delicious!

Great place to stop and eat. I wouldn’t try to order anything fancy. We got the Lava Guava Flow drink which was very good. Also got the Kilauean Tai which was also good. Burgers and curly fries (beef and Taro) both of which I would recommend. All in all it was worth it for the price.
